Kelli Berglund is one of young Hollywood’s latest recruits. The 20-year-old first made a name for herself on Disney’s hit series Lab Rats and Lab Rats Elite Force. However, this winter, you will see Kelli in a very different light as she takes on the role of ‘Willadeene Parton’ in NBC’s highly anticipated special Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love. Her talents and roles have landed her with a thriving fan base with over 3 million followers on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. This edgy fashionista had lots to talk about with BELLO this Christmas.

BELLO MAG: You have a very exciting project coming out this winter, NBC’s highly anticipated special “Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love.” Tell me a little bit about the story of this TV movie? KELLI BERGLUND: This movie is a continuation of the film that came out last year, “Coat of Many Colors.” It’s the story of Dolly Parton’s life as a young girl, and how her love of music and her huge heart got her to where she is now. This film, takes place during Christmas and is based off of a true story as well! It’s a story of faith, relationships, and a circle of love. BM: You star as Willadeene Parton in the special, what’s your character like? Do you have any similarities to her? KB: My character, Willadeene, is Dolly Parton’s oldest sister. She’s almost a second mother to the many siblings she has. Mom and dad can’t do it all by themselves! She’s compassionate to everyone but is tough when she needs to be. Being an older sister myself, I totally get it. You only want the best for your younger siblings, and you want them to learn that being respectful and kind is so important. We’re definitely similar in that sense. BM: What was your experience like working alongside Dolly Parton? KB: Dolly Parton is a living legend. I know we all know this, but I don’t have one negative thing to say about that amazing lady. Even with all of her accomplishments throughout her career, she’s extremely down to earth and makes everyone in the room feel warm and welcome. It’s an honor to not only be able to have a conversation with her, but also portray a huge, real character of her life. 39
BM: Are you a big fan of Christmas? What do you do to celebrate this time of year? KB: My whole family and I are huge Christmas fans! It’s a really special time of year. Family is everything to me, so I really take the opportunity to spend every moment I can with them, especially during the holidays. I start watching things like Elf and The Grinch in November. Like, the day after thanksgiving, it’s officially Christmas! My mom bakes her famous Christmas cookies, the tree goes up, and the Christmas music station is on constantly throughout the house. BM: You have a lot of young fans and a lot of followers on social media thanks to all your roles on the Disney channel. Do you feel you have to be careful about what you post? KB: I have several different perspectives on this sort of thing. I always keep in mind the young audience that keeps up with me and has ALWAYS kept up with me! But what I think is really great is that we can all grow together. They can watch me transition through different projects and characters, different parts of my life, and different ages. I really post whatever I want... I’m 20 years old now! But I try to do it as tastefully as possible. In the end, it is my Instagram, my Twitter, my life. You can’t please everyone, but I aim to keep my awesome fans entertained and interested! BM: Is fashion something you’ve always been interested in? KB: Fashion became a major interest to me maybe a year and a half ago. It’s when I really started paying attention to unique designers and styles that I was encouraged me to be a little daring. I don’t like to go with the crowd, but I will admit to taking part in fun/cool trends at any given moment. Fashion is such
a widespread thing and I appreciate the creative minds behind it. BM: You’ve become known for your edgy fashion choices, how would you specifically describe your style? KB: You said it, I love edgy! I’m all over the place… Vintage edgy, leather/black edgy, sexy edgy. There’s a ton of smaller categories when it comes to ‘edgy,’ and I’m a mix of all of them, I think. I love love love ‘glam edgy’, too. Gigi and Bella Hadid exemplify this style really well. They’re big inspirations for me when it comes to fashion!
