KATHERYN WINNICK PHOTOGRAPHY ALEKSANDAR TOMOVIC "Do you wish to rise? Begin by descending. You plan a tower that will pierce the clouds? Lay first the foundation of humility." This axiom from Saint Augustine is a personal favorite of mine, for it elegantly conveys how the virtue of steadfast preparedness is the secret to both personal growth as well as one's achievements in the outer world. Katheryn Winnick has always understood this, having built a remarkable life and career with a towering sense of purpose, conviction, and unrivaled fearlessness. BELLO had the chance to catch up with Katheryn recently where she discusses her exciting new series of projects ...

AUGUST 2017 Ciao Bellos, I can proudly say our SEXY issues have now become an annual event, and for this month it is no different: the amazing Katheryn Winnick is on the cover, and it is only the first of 2 SEXY issues coming out this month. We had so much fun shooting the Vikings star here in Hollywood with a great team, and even got to capture some great behind the scenes footage, which you can check out inside our digital version of the magazine. These are shaping to become the most exciting times for the magazine and for the BELLO team, as we are expanding our reach by partnering up with Maison PrivĂŠe PR, and making BELLO Media Group even bigger and better. Our goal is to make it easy for our teams to be as creative as possible, while also having fun, and enjoying the creative process, all to bring you content you'll hopefully love and feel inspired to read and talk about. Check it all out inside the magazine and make sure to let us know how you like our exclusive and sexy editorial with Jake Miller, as well as our Katheryn Winnick interview and fashion story. Enjoy the summer @BELLOmag

Wertel Oberfell's Atomic Light is brilliant on so many levels. The 3D-printing used in its design not only creates a new kind of lightweight material that's structurally stable, it also is designed in such a way to focus the LED light in the most elegant way. Visit www.WertelOberfell.com for all the details.
It was love at first sight when I learned of the brand new Mercedes E-Class All Terrain 4x4 concept design. Although it's not officially in development, the reception to this incredible 4x4 has been so enormous that Mercedes is considering making a big order. Learn more at www.Mercedes-Benz.com.
Raise the roof with this deceptively simple bird feeder from the folks at BEEKMAN, beautifully designed to architectural standards. Your yard will be the talk of the flock. Measuring 10.5" long x 8" tall x 11" wide, you can order your own at www.ShiftMakes.com.
Having just moved to Venice Beach myself, one of my first and most amazing discoveries was the Tortoise General Store. But you don't have to be in L.A. to enjoy Tortoise's incredible range of chic Japanese homeware items -- you can dive into their amazing collection on their online store at www.TortoiseGeneralStore.com.

The STRESS lighting collection is the gorgeous new creation from Israeli designer Ohad Benit. The inspiration for the lamp was taken from the shape of big bubbles in the midst of being formed. See these incredible new lights at www.OhadBenit.com.
Italian designer and architect, Vincenzo de Cotiis, is seriously up my alley right now. Case in point is his brilliant design for this private luxury holiday residence in northern Tuscany. You can see all the photos by visiting the website of photographer Ambroise Tezenas at www. AmbroiseTezenas.com (click on the 'Commissions' tab and look for the project entitled 'La PoÊsie de l'Épure').
Irish artist Niamh Barry recently unveiled a stunning new collection of lighting sculptures. Each one is a collage-like assemblage of numerous geometric links made in either bronze, polished or patinated, opal glass, LED lights, and magnets. See all 29 of her lamp designs at www.NiamhBarry.com.
If you're lucky enough to be in London or heading there soon, you must pay a visit to The Glade bar and brunch resto inside the Sketch arts complex. The Glade's jaw-dropping design is so intoxicating you might not even need to order that fifth cocktail. Visit www.Sketch. london and under the 'Restaurants & Bars' tab, click on 'The Glade'. 7

JAKE MILLER PHOTOGRAPHY ARTHUR GALVAO
SPOT LIGHT
JAKE MILLER: written by Brent Lambert Exploration -- both inwards and outwards -- relies on three fundamentals: a thirst for the undiscovered, the determination to chart your own course, and the steadfast ability to steer your own ship. And for musician Jake Miller, these three are running at full force right now. At 24, Jake has a brand new album entitled 2:00am in LA which gives his fans an intimate look at his personal journey over the past year. We sat down with him during his BELLO photo shoot in Los Angeles to talk about where he's been, where he is, and where he's going next.

It would be easy for a young musician to ride a wave of success without a compass, but Jake Miller is by no means your average singer-songwriter. One of his biggest artistic influences and inspirations is John Mayer, whose work continuously pulls Jake towards achieving the highest level of quality and resonance in his own music. "John Mayer is my biggest musical inspiration," he says. "John's lyrics speak to me more than anybody else's lyrics I've ever known. He's the one constant that never ends, and he's been in my iPod since day one. I've never been able to get sick of his music. I have his lyrics tattooed on my own body." For Jake, Mayer's work hints at the much bigger picture. "His message to me is to just stop and enjoy the moment -- don't let life pass you by too quickly. That's what his song 'Stop This Train' which is tattooed on my arm is about. It's also about his parents getting older and how he doesn't want them to pass away. It really speaks to me, and as a musician I only hope to write lyrics that can speak to people that same way." In his new album, 2:00am in LA, Jake takes us through his life and times over the past year, and in doing so we get an up-close look at his own big picture. "This has been the most emotional roller coaster of a year that I've had so far, regarding my career, my relationships -- it's just been a crazy, emotional year," says Jake. "So I've been doing a lot of overthinking, but also meeting new people and going out -- seeing what I like, what I don't like, being single for the first time in a long time, and pretty much living by myself. I found myself a lot of the time late at night at 2am just kind of overthinking things. All these thoughts are the different thoughts or experiences that I had at 2:00am in LA. I haven't lived here for too long so it's all kind of new to me. There have been a lot of changes in this last year, so if you listen to the album in order it kind of tells that story." Jake's own story touches on much more than music alone. His skills as an actor continue to expand, and as a new model represented by Wilhelmina International, Jake's outer beauty is now getting as much attention as his beauty within. As he rises toward super stardom, Jake takes careful study of the career path laid by his other biggest hero. "I've always looked up to Justin Timberlake and the way he's modeled his career. I would love to be selling out arenas and stadiums -- that's my first and foremost priority. I want to be a household name in the music industry and make a positive difference with my music," he adds. "And once I do that I want to branch out and start getting serious about acting and modeling in the way that Justin has -- but only after I've established myself as a musician."
my label when I was under contract," he says. "I had thought, 'OK cool, I have the big machine driving me and everything will be great. I can sit back and work a little less.' But I've realized in the past two years that nobody is going to work harder than you. Nobody sees the vision like you do. In my head I can hear exactly what I want my next album to sound like, and I haven't even made it yet. I know what I want all my music videos to look like and we haven't even discussed shooting them yet." The fact that Jake was on set looking so buff and bronzĂŠ during his photo shoot -- with photos his fans will, no doubt, be drooling over for years to come -- we couldn't help but ask him what he feels are the three sexiest traits in someone he's smitten with. "Number one has to be their personality. You can be the hottest person in the world, but if I don't have an emotional connection with you then it's not going to work. A sense of humour is very important to me and very sexy. And a smile -- you gotta show that smile to show that you're happy, and if you aren't, you've got to find things that make you happy." Jake's own happiness has a lot to do with his incredible relationship with his family and his fans. "Outside the industry, my family and fans are my biggest inspiration, and inspire me to keep going and stay strong, even when I'm not feeling it, says Jake. "And with social media it's so easy to get inspired because I go online and I see all these fans tweeting how much my music has helped them, or helped them get through the day." And every now and then when Jake needs a little pep talk to make it through his own day, there's one person on his speed dial the most often. "My dad has always been there to teach me everything I know. Everytime I need advice I'll call him and he'll just give me the best advice."Â And it's perhaps his incredible relationship with his own dad that has given Jake the most valuable lesson of all from this past year. "You can never forget who's the captain of your own ship," he says. "Sometimes it might look like you're coming off a little confident or arrogant but you have to always stay true to yourself and not let anybody get in your way."
This path towards establishing himself as a world renowned musician takes a major leap forward on his new album, for it's his first independent album since he finished his contract with Warner Brothers Records. "One of the biggest things I've learned throughout the last year was that I relied too much on

mark. By Avon Pout Velvet Lip Paint is intense, highly pigmented, long lasting color that feels great to wear. Its soft, rounded applicator disperses color evenly and with a built in primer there’s no need for a lipliner. “Spark” is one of my favorites - a bright orange-red that flatters all skin tones. www.avon.com
For those who are interested in shaping and contouring the face in a more realistic and natural way, I love Shadow Play by Rouge Bunny Rouge. It’s a defining and contouring liquid best applied with the fingertips. The sheer coverage blends easily and dries with a light, silky matte finish. It can be used over or under foundation to reshape and subtly accentuate features.
Peace Out Skincare has created a genius product that zaps zits while you sleep. Acne Healing Dots, infused with pimple fighting salicylic acid and skin soothing aloe, adhere to the face to blast blemishes overnight. www.sephora.com

The sign of healthy skin is glowing skin. Look no further than the Korean and French inspired line Erborian. GLOW CRÈME - Illuminating Face Cream is a multitasking product, providing hydration as well as a blur effect, making it a great primer for makeup. The Magic & Mystery Of Maison St-Germain
by Brent Lamber
The stars aligned on the evening of Wednesday, August 2nd, at the star-studded event celebrating St-Germain, the French liqueur made with its most famously enticing ingredient of all -- elderflowers. Landscape architect and Creative Director, Lily Kwong, was the mastermind behind the exquisite floral creations at Maison St-Germain, which was held at the legendary 5-acre Houdini Estate in the Hollywood Hills. The bohemian-chic crowd included Olivia Culpo, Dita Von Teese, Eric Balfour, Natasha Bedingfield, Michelle Trachtenberg, model Rocky Barnes, and many more. And taking the evening to the next level were the signature cocktails created by St-Germain Global Ambassador Camille Ralph Vidal. Maison St-Germain also incorporated elements of magical realism and mystique throughout the estate for guests to explore, layered with performances by bespoke magicians, a stimulating performance by No)one, improvisational sound art by Patrick Belaga, and a secluded section for Celtic tarot reading. But the true star of the night was most certainly Vidal's extraordinary Labyrinthe cocktail. With one look at this recipe you will understand why all of us kept going back for more: Labyrinthe1 oz Cazadores Blanco Tequila 1 oz Kaffir lime infused St-Germain French elderflower liqueur 3/4 oz Noilly Dry 1/4 oz of fresh lime juice 5 dashes chartreuse Shaken – coupette – garnish with kaffir lime leaf Lily’s romantic-yet-whimsical journey was in every way a celebration of the the joyful decadence of summer indulgence. Her vision created an immersive discovery experience for the modern 'bon vivants' guests who seek life in full bloom. Following the event, all florals were donated to 14th Factory Gallery, Downtown Los Angeles, to accompany the ‘Garlands’ installation’s disassembly, creating a one-day pop-up floral shop experience, where beautiful flowers were be gifted to the community of Lincoln Heights and the greater Los Angeles. 57

It has been quite the turn around the sun for Shannon Purser. Around this time last year she was working in a movie theatre and in recent weeks she had her first film come out in theaters, not to mention receiving an Emmy nomination for her role as “Barb” on the hit Netflix series “Stranger Things.” I mean who gets a Funko Pop figure with their first ever role? In addition to Wish Upon, which marked her film debut, Purser has a recurring role on the popular CW show “Riverdale,” a recurring role on the highly anticipated new NBC series “Rise,” and two more upcoming film roles, a supporting role opposite Melissa McCarthy in Life of the Party and Sierra Burgess is a Loser in which she plays the title role. Congratulations on your first award nomination, an Emmy nomination for your work on “Stranger Things.” We say first because we here at Bello believe this will be the first of many. Who was the first person you spoke to when you heard the news?? How did you celebrate? The first people I spoke to were my manager and my publicist! We were all freaking out and just so excited. I was on my way to Vancouver at the time so I couldn't celebrate until I got to my hotel and I'm a bit of a grandma so I just ordered room service and took a bath. A lot has happened in the past year, what is your first thought when you look back at the last 365 days? Just "Wow." I'm doing the kind of things that I fantasized about as a kid and it doesn't feel real. I'm so blown away. Your resume has been mostly dramatic so far, “Stranger Things,” “Riverdale” and Wish Upon but you have some comedy coming up with Life of Party with Melissa McCarthy. Having done both now, which do you prefer? That's a tough one! Firstly, people seem to underestimate how difficult comedy is! It's the hardest thing I've done! Being genuinely funny and getting the timing right is so tricky and I just remember being in awe of Melissa when we worked together. I think at the end of the day, I prefer drama (probably because I'm a dramatic person and much more confident in that than in my comedic skills.) However, I love this job so much because I get to try everything and that's what I wanna do. Read Shannon's full interview on www.BELLOmag.com

Luke Cosgrove is an Australian newcomer that will star next in the Spike series “The Mist”, based on the novella by Stephen King and executive produced by Harvey Weinstein, Bob Weinstein, David Glasser and Christian Torpe. Luke stars as ‘Jay’, the sheriff’s son; handsome, arrogant, confident, and a star quarterback who is later accused of a heinous crime. Cosgrove was born in Nambour, Queensland and raised on the Sunshine Coast, spending much of his time in the ocean surfing. He started acting at the age of 11 and in his late teens, moved to Brisbane to pursue his passion professionally, where he starred in several short independent Australian productions. Tell us about your most interesting experience on set of The Mist. There was a scene later in the season where Jay and Alex are trapped in a room surrounded by fire. We were literally placed in a room with an actual fire and there was a part in the scene where I had to jump through the fire, so I got to learn a bit about pyrotechnics which was cool. Have you read the book or seen the movie before filming ? I saw the movie before shooting and read the novella during. Was the mist added in post production or it was already on the set while filming ? And was it creepy ? The mist that you see on the show is a combination of practical mist that that came from a smoke machine on set and the other part is VFX. It was just really cool to see when they turned the machine on. I had a few scenes using the practical mist and it is creepy! You can hardly see anything! Who is your favorite kiss so far ? (on and off screen) That's a hard one. I think I'm just going to play it safe here and say Gus Birney (on screen). Read Luke's full interview on www.BELLOmag.com

AVAILABLE IN ALL 7 KINGDOMS 2017 is not even half finished, and it's already proven to be the year of a lifetime for Nathalie Emmanuel. In April, the 28-year-old British actress watched as her film The Fate of the Furious became the highest-grossing opening of all time -- even surpassing Star Wars: The Force Awakens. This July her blockbuster fantasy series, Game of Thrones, returns for its seventh season on HBO. And having recently returned home from shooting a cameo in Maze Runner: The Death Cure in dreamy South Africa, Nathalie is embarking on an exciting new chapter in her career. BELLO caught up with Nathalie by phone and she gave us an overview of what's coming up ... Jacket Elisabetta Franchi
KATHERYN WINNICK: THE TOWER OF NOW by Brent lamber
"Do you wish to rise? Begin by descending. You plan a tower that will pierce the clouds? Lay first the foundation of humility." This axiom from Saint Augustine is a personal favorite of mine, for it elegantly conveys how the virtue of steadfast preparedness is the secret to both personal growth as well as one's achievements in the outer world. Katheryn Winnick has always understood this, having built a remarkable life and career with a towering sense of purpose, conviction, and unrivaled fearlessness. BELLO had the chance to catch up with Katheryn recently where she discusses her exciting new series of projects, and her dedication to helping women and girls learn how to stand their ground.
As a lifelong diehard fan of Stephen King, Katheryn Winnick jumped at the chance to play Laurie Chambers in the brand new film The Dark Tower alongside co-stars Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey. Even more of a dream come true is the fact that the film was shot in South Africa. Having spent two months in the region afforded Katheryn plenty of time to soak up the natural wonders that surrounded her. "I went on two different safaris, I did Kenya and Kruger Park, Johannesburg, Zimbabwe, and I went shark diving which was one of the biggest highlights," she told us. "Cape Town is an incredible city because of the location. You can go hiking and swimming, and the cuisine and wineries are amazing. It's one of my favorite cities." Of all her experiences there, Katheryn says it was one hike in particular that stood above all the other incredible moments. "Perhaps my favorite experience there was when I climbed Table Mountain. It took about four and a half hours, and was incredibly dangerous. By the end of it you feel so accomplished. Everybody should do it because it's absolutely breathtaking." Challenging herself to climb to bold heights is nothing new for Katheryn. At sixteen she began her training in taekwondo, and by the time she was twenty-one she had already attended three different martial arts schools. Her superior background in martial arts has shaped her career choices as well. Entertainment Weekly once praised Katheryn's role of Lagertha on the series
85
Vikings as being the most exciting feminist character on TV. But no great character can be realized unless an actor has the skills required to pull it off, and Katheryn has these and then some. She tells us how her dedication to her craft comes from the pursuit of the ever elusive present moment. "What drives me as an actor is the challenge of being true to yourself and staying grounded in different circumstances," she says. "Acting, when it's done right, can open you up to different versions of yourself, and you also open up to different connections with your co-stars' and their performances." She adds, "If that connection is true then people watching it on the big screen will walk away feeling like you've touched their soul. There's nothing more powerful I can think of than that." The hunt for the 'now' goes beyond her professional work, of course. "If you're in the moment and connected with yourself you can experience that connection -- whether it be with nature or another human being. It's all about being in the 'now'. What's so special about acting is that you prepare for months beforehand, but all that work has to be forgotten in that moment when the director yells 'action,' to when he or she says 'cut.' You have to let all the preparation go to be fully present." Katheryn was fully present at the recent Comic-Con convention this past July when she joined her co-stars from the upcoming action film Call of Duty: WWII. The fan reception of the film's announcement was so huge it even
August 2017
took Katheryn by surprise. "I had no idea how huge the fan base was -- we got the biggest room at Comic-Con and it was filled all the way to the back. It was great to see how many people are excited about it, and what's really interesting is they are focusing hard on building the female audience. I was looking around that convention room and I would say 50% of the fans were women and girls." Her female fans' passion for these stories makes Katheryn all the more thrilled, because it serves one of her most cherished side projects. "One of my biggest passions is to help women learn self defense, and give them the tools they need to be able to hold their heads up high as they walk the streets of New York, or wherever they are for that matter. I'm launching a new company called Winkai Self Defense which I hope to have ready by the end of the year." One might assume that her commanding presence as a fighter would mean she holds the same characteristic as the top priority in matters of the opposite sex, but that assumption would be wrong. So what is Katheryn's #1 trait when it comes to the sexiness of Mr. Right? "The sexiest quality in a man is humour, when he doesn't take him too seriously, and can be a gentleman at the same time." The Dark Tower is in theatres now. The new season of Vikings premieres this coming November 29, 2017 on the History Channel, and Call of Duty: WWII hits theatres on November 3, 2017.

Feminine, Mediterranean, Ethereal. Charles & Ron is a contemporary lifestyle brand high-end clothing and bags based in Malta. Their location in the heart of the Mediterranean sea influenced their designs bringing this unique flair. The colour palette for this summer 2017 season was based on primary happy colours, blue, green, red and touch of yellow. These are the colours that you see on traditinal wooden balconies. During our Game Of Thrones' Nathalie Emmanuel cover shoot (July 2017 issue #154) we felt in love with Charles & Ron designs. Our concept for this shoot was all about fun and vibrant energy with a unique elegance. Those dresses immediately inspired Nathalie and it all came together in a beautiful story -- that will remain as one of our favorites.

AURORA
INFLUENCE YOUR MOOD
NANOLEAF by Stephane Marquet
Aurora by Nanoleaf quickly became THE to go light in my household. Even tho there is only my husband and I, we both have our own settings. The great thing about this smart lighting system is that you can change colors depending on your mood but you can also create your own color patern. If temperatures are above 90, I just click on my Blue Lagoon preset and a palette of refreshing blues makes everything cooler. When it gets chilly at night Feux De Bois warms up the athmosphere with oranges and reds. Morning are made of Magical Forest with greens representing the color of nature and health - Green is said to have healing powers - What a great way to start the day don't you think? There is even a function that helps you be more productive. And you can control Aurora with your smartphone. This fall they are adding one extra function called Aurora Rythym.
