CHARLIE WEBER
+ DESTINATION ROME
PHOTOGRAPHY ARTHUR GALVAO
Charlie Weber is a man of many blessings, and he's the first to say so. For his BELLO cover story interview we asked him not only about his How To Get Away With Murder journey, but also what he's most grateful for in his life. Fresh off his recent stay at The Inn at Newport Ranch roughly three and a half hours north of San Francisco, Charlie was still on a 'nature high' from the stunning natural surroundings of the NoCal coast, and it was clear the experience left a major mark in his soul.

MARCH 2018 I am sitting in front of the TV, energized by the #METOO and #NEVERAGAIN movements, and catching up on the latest episode of How to Get Away With Murder (for real HAHA!), and gushing over the photos of our new cover. I was in Paris when the BELLO team, led by Arthur Galvao, got to photograph Charlie Weber for this cover story. I had met him the first time we featured him in BELLO several years ago, and he is truly one of the nicest guys in town. The exclusive interview Brent Lambert did with him reveals his passion for one of our favorite cities on earth, and our Creative Director Stephane Marquet just happened to spend a week there shooting for this exclusive travel feature. Our Model of the Month is Pierre Abena, an amazingly talented, half-Italian and half-Cameroonian, who we expect to see more of in the years ahead as we believe that his presence in front of the camera should extend beyond steel photography (and we are not the only one). Constantly searching to bring you the most amazing stories and points of views, we have a brand new contributor, Arial Frankeny, who has joined our team to cover these exciting times in Hollywood, where things are finally changing for the better. She's also here to remind us why we all love streetwear so much. Arrivederci,

HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER
CHARLIE WEBER by Brent Lambert @FEELguide
"I just wrapped shooting season four of How To Get Away With Murder so my girlfriend and I stayed at The Inn at Newport Ranch in the Lost Coast area of Northern California and it was absolutely stunning," he told us. "It's a bed & breakfast and the property is absolutely beautiful -- it's on the cliffs overlooking the ocean, and it's near the Redwood Forest. If you're into that sort of thing I cannot recommend it enough. It's such a beautiful place. I can't wait to go back. I was in heaven." Heaven is certainly a worthy description of the Northern California region, but what would Charlie think of spending the rest of his life on a deserted island with his HTGAWM character, Frank Delfino? "I think that he and I could hopefully adapt, but I think we would go our separate ways for a bit at the beginning. It would probably get a little vola-
9
tile, but then we'd realize we needed each other and form some kind of survival pact. There would be some initial animosity, but ultimately friendship. In no time we'd probably be crying around a campfire together." And when we asked if he had to pick just one of the following for his trip: 1) all the music in the world, 2) all the TV and movies in the world, or 3) all the gourmet food in the world? "That's tough because I want all three. I honestly, if I know myself, I'm going to choose #2: all the movies and TV in the world." Campfires are something Charlie has been thinking about a lot these days. His time in the lush natural surroundings of NoCal have him thinking of the need for more of this kind of experience in his life. "When we went on that trip in late February I had just finished shooting season

four of the show and my life was entirely city-driven. I hadn't been out of the city in months. It was so nice to get away, and it was a real reminder that I need more of that in my life." Charlie's not going to be packing up and moving to the forest anytime soon tough. "Don't get me wrong -- I still love to be able to walk to an amazing restaurant from my home, but I'd say I'm hoping I can get to a point where half my time is in nature and the other half is in the city. But I fear that might be a ways away." Later he added, "When I'm out in the middle of nowhere, and surrounded by the people who live there, I'm incredibly inspired by the ways in which these folks live their lives. There's such a calm with these people that I don't get to experience very often."
Starring on one of the biggest shows on television has given Charlie a life that most can only dream of, but of all his blessings, what is the one that he treasures most closely? "I would say definitely it's the people in my life. I keep a pretty small circle, but the people that are in it are just astoundingly wonderful and bring me so much joy. It's this handful of people in my life that, in many ways, keep me going. I have a lot to be thankful for, but that's probably my most cherished right now."
Another item near the top of Charlie's gratitude list is a recent trip he took to Rome. His time spent there was so profound he cannot wait to get back. "I went to Rome last year for the first time and I had never been. The city in and of itself is an open museum. It's sort of shocking in the most beautiful way. It was a life-altering trip -- to see the history of that city. I think when you go somewhere and can't wait to get back, that's a really special feeling. That's what Rome did to me."
His immersive experiences in nature and some of the world's greatest cities have
Bello
a lot in common with his immersion in the numerous characters he's portrayed throughout his career. "There is a parallel in the way a place or a character can haunt you. It's as if it's always there tugging at you. I would say there is a relationship between how immersing yourself in a character and immersing yourself in a place can both sink themselves into your bones. In the same way that Frank is in my bones, my recent trip to Northern California also lingers with me and I want more."
We asked Charlie what the #1 thing is he's learned about himself during his HTGAWM experience that he didn't know before. "I would say what I've learned the most from my journey on this show is a new understanding of commitment -- commitment to one character for this long. That commitment has allowed me to watch Frank change shape, and my process change shape. Frank and I have gotten to know each other really well. He was a stranger at first, and now he's a friend and someone I spend a great deal of time with."
And speaking of exploring characters, we gave Charlie the BELLO Career Blender Challenge: pick three of your favorite TV series or movies, and mash them together to create a new series or film in which you would star. "It would definitely be a crime drama," he laughs. "I'm thinking about True Romance, as well as The Sopranos, but I need a wildcard for #3. Why don't we throw in Dumb and Dumber?! Otherwise you're going to lose your audience if you don't have the levity. So the title would be Dumb Sopranos Romance. And there's going to be such a huge ensemble cast that it will be hard to pick which character I'll want to play the most (laughing)."
The season finale of How To Get Away With Murder airs March 15, 2018 on ABC.

STREETWEAR: THE NEW KING OF STYLE Written by Ariel Frankeny
WHEN IT COMES TO MODERN FASHION, STREET STYLE IS KING. LONG GONE ARE THE DAYS THAT ONLY THE RUNWAY SHOWS AND FASHION EDITORS OF THE WORLD DETERMINED WHAT WE WORE – NOW, THE STREET RULES IT ALL.
But why this sudden shift? If you take a step back, this shift isn’t so unexpected after all. What we wear often represents the way that we think, reflecting cultural changes and other influences. It has always been around – it’s simply the level of influence that has changed.
eventually earned him a spot as Creative Director at Balenciaga. He tapped into the need for real street style with an individualistic edge that was portrayed perfectly via moody, relevant imagery and videos on social media, winning him a fiercely loyal fan base.
The Current Success of Streetwear Style The current success of streetwear is often credited to Vetements designer, Demna Gvasalia, the man who brought puffer jackets to the Balenciaga runway. However, there are other elements at play – namely social media, accessibility, and evolution.
In addition to the influence of social media, the increased accessibility of streetwear style has played a huge role in its success. While luxury style is often unattainable by the average person, streetwear has consistently been affordable and is accessible to anyone.
With the rise of social media has come the opportunity for new brands to cater to upand-coming “cool kid” style. Trending style is now more accessible than ever before, offering brands a window into the ever-evolving styles and times. Consumers and influencers are also more accessible with social media, offering the opportunity for more efficient marketing and branding. Take it from Demna Gvasalia, aforementioned – he worked to create a cult streetwear brand in Vetements via social media that
Bello
For example, Jerry Lorenzo, founder of cult-favorite Fear of God, tapped into this influence by pushing his way into the market with multiple levels. By targeting a younger audience with his lower-priced PacSun-sold F.O.G. collection and luxury audiences with his high-end Fifth Collection, he was able to overtake streetwear as a whole, making his designs accessible to anyone who wanted to wear them.
The final piece of streetwear success lies in its continual evolution. The popularity of

streetwear style ebbs and flows with the cultural times, changing as we change how we think and act. The ultimate example of this principle is SUPREME. Founded in 1994 as a skateboarding and streetwear brand, SUPREME has continually evolved with youth culture to stay relevant and on-trend. And with the rise of Instagram, SUPREME has reinvented itself yet again, pushing its iconic streetwear style to the forefront of modern fashion and cultivating a whole new base of customers.
But what is truly unique about the streetwear style is the cycle of influence which allows for young, up-and-coming brands to play a part in changing the industry. Rising brands such as PARAVAL.US are able to add their unique point of view to the ever evolving conception of streetwear style, reversing the traditional trickle-down style of luxury fashion and providing inspiration for big-name brands. So what comes next for streetwear style? Only time will tell.

THE RISE AND TIMES SHONDA RHIMES
Written by Ariel Frankeny
If you’ve watched any Thursday night television, there’s no doubt that you’re already addicted to one of the many successes of Shonda Rhimes. Whether you’re hopelessly binging the Golden Globe-winning medical drama, Grey’s Anatomy, or dying for your weekly dose of the Emmy-nominated political thriller, Scandal, Shonda has already worked her way into your life (and weekly schedule). Her highly addicting and well-thought out stories have been a game-changer in the industry, setting a new standard for prime-time television and enrapturing audiences all around the world. This award-winning writer, director, and producer is the first African American woman to create and work as an Executive Producer on a Top 10 network series (Grey’s Anatomy), effectively kicking down doors for other women to follow in her footsteps. With the extreme success of Grey’s Anatomy, Shonda was able to create her own production company, aptly named “ShondaLand,” which has played a major role in producing successful series such as Lawless and Private Practice. After the creation of her cult-favorite shows Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder, she has gone on to release a book and sign a multi-year deal with Netflix

to produce both new series and other projects for this entertainment-industry giant. By creating empowering female characters that truly speak to and invigorate women everywhere, Shonda is fostering a community of powerful women that know that they can be successful and beautiful, but still kick-ass, too. Whether you’re an Olivia Pope-type or more of an Annalise Keating, identifying with her authoritative and fearless female main-characters is an empowering experience for women everywhere. Through showing that women can be both strong and intelligent, Shonda’s dynamic female characters are a perfect tools for changing the industry and its misconceptions. In 2018, Shonda helped to make history by being one of 300 women in the entertainment industry, ranging from writers to actresses to directors, to announce the launch of the “Time’s Up Initiative” via an open letter in The New York Times. This initiative is intended to foster gender parity across all industries, particularly the entertainment industry, and influence legislators to introduce laws that would penalize those who allow harassment to occur. In the wake of the Harvey Weinstein allegations, this initiative

We absolutely need more women like Shonda in the entertainment industry, especially given its tumultuous state. In today’s times, women cannot be considered equal partners in telling their stories, whether through highly addictive television shows or simply reporting the news. They are often overshadowed or even silenced by their male counterparts, unable to play the part or make the change that they so desperately want to affect. Through the “Time’s Up” initiative and their bold actions, Shonda and other game-changing women like her are working to break down these barriers, telling their stories and fighting oppression of women in all industries. With her leading the way through her success, actions, and empowering characters, we are well on our way to a changed, more inclusive entertainment industry.

AVA ALLAN
A WHAT PERFECT TIMING FOR AVA ALLAN TO BE OUR NEW BELLO IT GIRL. HAVING JUST TURNED 18, THE STAR OF LOVE IS ALL YOU NEED?, TRUE JACKSON VP, AND PRETTY LITTLE LIARS, IS READY TO TAKE THE WORLD BY STORM. WE HAD A CHANCE TO SIT DOWN WITH AVA FOR HER IT GIRL INTERVIEW WHERE SHE RAVED ABOUT HER INCREDIBLE SISTER, HER DREAM TRIP DESTINATION, AND HER FAVORITE LIFE LESSON OF THIS PAST YEAR.
Happy Birthday today Ava! How did you celebrate so far today and what are you big birthday plans tonight? Thank you! I just finished having lunch in Malibu right on the ocean with my Mom and sister. We went to this adorable place called Malibu Farm. The food was amazing. Tonight I am looking forward to cake of course (duh) and gifts! I am also celebrating more this weekend by going to a super nice dinner at a beautiful restaurant with friends and family. What was your biggest life lesson learned this past year? The past year I learned that hard work, persistence, and dedication are really the three keys to life and achieving your goals. I really believe these three keys will lead to great success. Who in your life makes you belly laugh most often? I am surrounded by the funniest group of people, like ever! So it’s hard to choose just one person. My sister is probably the one person that can make me laugh about pretty much anything. We are extremely close so we have about 100 inside jokes. Imagine you were gifted a private plane on the spur of the moment and an all-expense-paid 2-week trip to anywhere in the world? Where would you go and why? Okay I wish this wasn’t just an imagination! I recently got to visit and travel all around Europe this past year, so that was beyond amazing and I would love to go back. Somewhere new I really want to go to is Greece. Why? I mean…why not?! It’s GREECE! Every photo I see of Greece is beyond beautiful. Also Greek food is absolutely delicious. What project(s) are you most excited for your fans to see? I get really excited promoting any of my upcoming projects to my fans because they are seriously the sweetest. Anytime I promote a new show/film they have the best reactions. I also love the edits they make of each of my characters! I am really lucky to have such a strong connection with them. Summer is right around the corner. Any big plans? Definitely need to get a tan like ASAP! I also already know I am gonna have lots of days spent at the beach. I am also currently planning some trips with the family so that will be fun too!

O WHO'S YOUR KNIGHT IN SHINING ARMOUR? FOR SOME OUT THERE IT'S OWEN JOYNER WHO STARS IN NICKELODEON’S NEW SERIES KNIGHT SQUAD AS ARC, THE HEAD OF HIS FOUR MEMBER TEAM AS THEY NAVIGATE THEIR WAY THROUGH KNIGHT SCHOOL. WE SAT DOWN WITH OWEN, WHO IS BELLO'S BRAND NEW IT GUY, TO TALK ABOUT HIS NEW SHOW, HIS FAVORITE BEHIND-THE-SCENES MOMENT, AND THE #1 ITEM ON HIS BUCKET LIST.
What was the most hilarious moment behind-the-scenes while shooting Knight Squad? I cannot think of just one certain situation but we just really, really have a good time on set all the time. We joke around between takes and really make the day fun. Sometimes, when the days are long, we get into this funky mood where everybody just seems to have a hard time keeping a straight face. And you should have seen us after we filmed the episode where we get sprayed with Unicorn poop...oh gosh, slime all over us and in our eyes and we had to keep going! Talk a bit about the dynamic between your character Arc and Ciara (played by Daniella Perkins)? They are dependent on one another due to the fact that they know one another’s secret. The are always looking out for one another while having an ongoing friendly competition. Arc guides Ciara to be a little bit more light-hearted and Ciara guides Arc to be more accountable. Let's fast forward 10 years into your career. Where will you be and what will you hopefully be doing? I see myself being an actor that, while passionate about comedy, will work across all genres. I want to continue creating and writing comedy. How has the reaction to the show been so far? Amazing! Even before the show aired we had many, many fan accounts. Ratings have been great after just the first two episodes which is very encouraging. What's your definition of the perfect Saturday? A little school, writing, creating content, just not doing anything, not having to be anywhere, hanging out with friends. What's the #1 item on your bucket list right now? Work with Steve Carell.

MOST CITY CENTERS IN EUROPE ARE WALKING DISTANCE FRIENDLY. SO ON MY FIRST DAY ANYWHERE IN EUROPE, I LIKE TO TAKE MY MOST COMFORTABLE PAIR OF SHOES AND WALK. The Trevi Foutain
My walking-day-tour began at the Trevi Fountain, I did not plan it this way, but I made it it there exactly at 9am, right when the water is turned on. Don’t forget to toss a coin over your shoulder to wish to be back in Rome plenty of other times; that is exactly what I wished for the very first time I came, and so far so good. So I tossed my coin and made my way to the Piazza Venezia and the Altare Della Patria" monument. The Panoramic Terrace offers a very unique view of the city, and since I knew this time I wouldn’t visit the Colosseum and the Roman Forum, I made sure I enjoyed the view of both of them from up there. Right next door is the "Cordonata Capitolina”, the smallest of the famous seven hills of Rome. Its piazza was designed by Michelangelo and hosts the Capitoline Museums that display the famous bronze statue of the she-wolf suckling Romulus & Remus. From there I made my way to the Pantheon - You can make a crochet by the “Turtle Fountain” - It was around 11am when I arrived at the Pantheon, but before, a much needed break: a cappuccino and a bottle of San Pellegrino, while listening to live music on the piazza. It was glorious. From the Pantheon you are just minutes away from the incredible “Piazza Navona”, once a stadium for romans to watch games. This was the perfect time and place to have lunch,
49
whilst enjoying the view of “Sant’ Agnes In Agone Church” along with the Four Rivers and Neptune's fountains. There is no question that most, if not all restaurants located in this area are tourist traps, but if you keep it simple like I did with a Pizza Quatro Formaggi, sparkling water and cappuccino (I had 6 that day!), you’ll have a wonderful time with some of the most incredible views in Rome. I sat down at Panzirone and I have to admit the pizza was just how I like it, perfectly thin crust and delicious cheese. My after-lunch long walk took me all the way to the Vatican, after crossing the Tiber River on “Ponte Vittorio Emmanuel II”. Be aware that The Vatican is crowded with people asking you if you need tickets to enter. Even if you work really hard at ignoring them, it quickly becomes old and after looking at St Peter’s Basilica plus the 2 hours long line to visit it for less than a minute, I decided to just turn around and walk towards “Castel Sant’Angelo. You can walk along the river all the way to "Ponte Regina Margherita” leading to “Piazza Del Popolo”. Via Del Babuino will take you to the Spanish Stairs and with the very last bit of energy I had left in me (its been 9 hours of walking at this point), I made my way up the 138 steps to enjoy a stunning sunset over Rome, making every dip of sweat worth it.
March 2018
Bello
My second day was dedicated to Museums. I honestly didn’t plan to visit the Vatican again, but being in Rome with a first time visitor I felt like seeing the Sistine Chapel was a must. Even though it really isn’t. I know… I know, Michelangelo’s work on the chapel's ceiling is regarded as a “major artistic accomplishment of human civilization”. And it truly is stunning. Unfortunately, the magic of it is somehow ruined by the experience of being should to shoulder with thousands of tourists, an imminent curse of success. But we’ll come back to that later. With all that in mind, I chose three places: The Vatican, The Capitoline and the Gallery Borghese. I’d recommend you do it in that exact order. The reason I suggest doing the Vatican first is so you don’t end your museum day on a relatively exhausting visit, due to the high number of people jammed into the museum all at once. Which is only worsen by unusually large backpacks and many large groups of various nationalities rushing towards the exit - the exit in question being the Sistine Chapel. Do notice how large backpacks are often wore by people who have no sense of space. From the moment you enter the Vatican you feel like you just embarked on one of those rapid river rides at Disneyland. The flow of visitors will carry you from room to room. Keep in mind that there are a few galleries that luckily aren’t walk-through spaces; therefore will be avoided by the excursion leaders holding their flag up in the air. These are spaces where you will be able to breathe and actually be able to look at the art. Then you will have no choice but to join the tide once again. Hopefully you’ll have good instincts that will help you chose a wave that will have the most survival chances.
visit. Even though the access lacks glamour or history, the first impression is WOW. A moment immediately ruined by the very loud and unfortunate yells of “KEEP MOVING” by the staff. At this point I felt like grabbing one of them by the collar so I could them how I really feel about the famous Vatican magic. So just follow their order and "keep moving" while looking at the ceiling - and watch your step. Was it a kid I stepped on? I can’t tell. Everything was a blur. In case you’ve missed the multiple signs, the Sistine Chapel is a sacred place where you must obey the signs for “silence” and “no-photos”. Of course it doesn’t count if you’re a staff member that just keeps yelling for “SILENZIO”. Thats a hell of a way to respect the sacred silence . Less than a minute later I found myself being part of a human herd led to the exit-shop by guard-dogs. To say the least, the Vatican was my least favorite part of the entire trip. It’s only worth doing to say that you’ve seen Michelangelo’s famous fresco with your own eyes! If that is something you wish to say in the first place. After being propelled onto the outside world, I felt stunned. Maybe it was Michelangelo’s work catching up to me or the energy draining vibe of the Vatican. I just needed to sit down and have a drink! After The Vatican, the visit of the Capitoline felt like a breath of fresh air, I even caught myself looking around empty rooms and thinking: “is this place open yet”? I mostly just came here to see the bronze statue of the she-wolf. There is some beautiful frescos as well as well as some pretty incredible sculptures. It was first open to the public in 1734 and is considered to be the first museum in the world. It holds many beauties such as Bernini’s Medusa and the head of the colossal statue of Constantine in the courtyard (seen on the cover of the article).

Ah, the Borghese Gallery! This place will literally transport you into a world of heavenly visions. If my energy was drained by the Vatican, this place did just the opposite. It displays art like no other museums I have ever been to; Probably because the sculptures are displayed in the space for which they were intended to when commissioned in the first place. I wasn’t really familiar with the work of Bernini, even though without knowing it, most things I love about Rome are the result of his brilliant mind. I have never been so moved looking at a sculpture as I was here, upon entering the first great room and seeing Bernini's masterpiece depicting the abduction of Proserpina, seized and taken to the underworld by Pluto. Perfection has been attained right there and then. A sculpture so delicate and realistic, you feel like a simple touch or even starring at it for too long will bring them back to life. The details on the skin, her hair, the hand of Pluto sinking into Proserpina’s flesh… It is hard to believe this was made from a solid block of marble. What is even harder to believe is that Bernini was only 23 years old at its completion. Apollo and Daphne is another incredible sculpture that will captivate you just as much. At the same time Michelangelo’s David got the spotlight in history books and we all know of it, I had no knowledge of Bernini’s version of David. It was commissioned by the cardinal Scipione Borghese to decorate the villa in 1623, completed in just 7 months and in my opinion exceeding Michelangelo’s work in many ways. Bernini revolutionized the art world with his Baroque ways: until then, statues were some sort of two dimensional, frontal-view-only pieces.

Bernini’s three-dimensional work invited the viewer to walk around it, exploring the many angles of the human body. You know those scenes in movies where the camera dollies around an object, and suddenly you’re back to when it all started? That’s exactly how I felt looking at Bernini’s work. You can almost feel his presence next to you, and you can’t help but wonder how this masterpiece came to reality. I have never felt such an out of this world experience, and the the ceiling fresco by Mariano Rossi will only enhance it, turning the sky into a surreal scene that comes to life right before your eyes. I pretty much skipped the upper level, which consists of mostly paintings - beautiful ones - but after looking at so much technical and emotional perfection I wasn’t able to bring myself back to reality. So I walked around, slowly cooling down from that art-high. I walked by a painting, while noting to my dear friend I still was in such disbelieve that one human being could ever achieve so much. I found myself staring at this portrait that stared back at me, and I came closer and looked at the plaque next to it I realized it said: “Self Portrait by Gian Lorenzo Bernini - 1623”. It gave me chills all over again. Here he was, a 25 year old Bernini looking at me … 400 years later. It’s the first time in my life I felt like a painting was a window connecting two worlds rather than a thin layer of dry oil. Bernini got to live to be 82 years old in a time where life expectancy was only about 35 years. He remained physically and mentally vigorous and fully active in his profession until just two weeks before his death.

BELLO TIPS Rome has over 900 churches, some with stunning art and frescos inside. I would suggest to enter as many as you can along your visit. Book your tickets online in advance for the Vatican and Gallery Borghese. It will save you time in lines and you will be able to pick a time slot for your visit.

It was my first time staying at the Hotel D’Inghilterra. A small hotel with a big personality. This place delivers. The location is everything when you just have a few days to enjoy the city. You want to be able to step out of your hotel and be in the center of it all. Hotel D’Inghilterra is right next to the famous Spanish Stairs but conveniently located in a quiet street. I should have wished at the Trevi Fountain to be able to come back to stay in the Penthouse Suite and enjoy its private roof garden on a sunny Roman summer evening. So I guess I’ll have to make that wish come true on my own. Wishes aside, the entire staff was friendly and helpful in making every detail count. We enjoyed the salons for either an Aperol Spritz before going out for dinner, a gourmet cappuccino pause in the afternoon or simply to sit and relax after a long day out. I was happy to see that our room had a complementary smartphone for free international calls and internet browsing. Which for me was convenient to save the batteries of my iPhone in order to take photos and videos all day long. The rooms are all different with unique decor and style. So if you see one in particular that you like in your category of reservation while booking your stay. Just make sure to send a specific request for it and I am sure they will do their best to accommodate you.

Best Gelateria - Giolitti It may be the oldest in the city, but for a reason. Founded in 1890 by Giuseppe and Bernardina Giolitti, this artisanal Gelateria remain's today favorite amongst locals and tourists. I dove into the “Gnutella” and make sure to have it "con crema" on top. We made it a ritual to go every nights. It’s simply the best gelato I’ve ever had. While staying at Hotel D’Inghilterra in Rome, I have discovered Aqua Dell Elba diffusers. It smelled so good that I had to stop at their boutique located next door. Their stores have this zen, fresh atmosphere. I was sold to buy the “Mare” home diffuser that was displayed at my hotel, until the girl who was working at the boutique that day made me discovered “Casa Dei Mandarini”. If you like citrusy smells, you are going to love this one. My only regret is not getting a ton of refills. Fortunately all of their products are available on www.acquedellelba.us. Acqua dell'Elba crafts its fresh, vibrant perfumes and home fragrances from the highest quality natural botanicals and very select ingredients in their laboratory on Elba. The Perfumieres of Acqua dell'Elba have grown up and lived on Elba all of their lives. They use their traditional craftsmanship and intimate knowledge of local ingredients to create classic fragrances. It is an elegantly simple and fresh approach which is reflected in every aspect of its brand and products.

FODDIS is an Italian brand dedicated to high-end womenswear. The couture-to-wear brand label was launched in 2014, capitalizing on Umberto FODDIS’s 30 years of experience producing luxury dresses for international designers including Olivier Theyskens, Chloé, Erdem, Ermanno Scervino, and Roberto Cavalli, to mention a few. Each FODDIS outfit is produced in Umberto’s atelier, located in Rome. As of today, FODDIS is distributed in prestigious boutiques in Los Angeles, Dubai, Panama, Riyadh, Jeddah and Tokyo. Umberto FODDIS, brand founder and designer, was born in 1973 in Rome. His career in fashion launched at the tender age of fourteen, when he began working for Rome’s historical fashion house Gattinoni – the house of Dolce Vita and Hollywood luminaries such as Audrey Hepburn and Anita Ekberg – where he swiftly flew up the ranks to become first assistant to Raniero Gattinoni himself. After working for several other Italian designers, Umberto decided to create his own line, with the assistance of Véronique Beaumont, former International Director of Christian Lacroix, putting the exceptional craftsmanship of his family atelier to the service of his unbridled creativity.

FODDIS’s forte is dresses, designed by Umberto for everything from glamorous evenings and trendy cocktail occasions to the more casual moments of a woman’s day. From start to finish, Umberto takes discerning care with his creations: with an eye for lively, arty, assertive prints, colours and materials, he sources his fabrics from the finest Italian suppliers, and utilizes inventive sewing techniques and handcrafted finishes. Drapés, lace inserts, elaborate use of ribbons and trimmings are a few of the arts mastered during Umberto’s numbrous years of immersion in the universe of couture. Along the way, Umberto has established his own recipe for womenswear: add a dash of humour to a splash of fantasy all’italiana, and presto! The result is a unique visual feast for the onlooker as well as a delight for the wearer. FODDIS’s garments are a mellifluous mix of diverse elements: playful and energetic, yet delicate and sophisticated, the brand’s silhouettes flatter curves and celebrate the wearer’s femininity. CHARLIE WEBER PHOTOGRAPHY ARTHUR GALVAO
+ DESTINATION ROME Charlie Weber is a man of many blessings, and he's the first to say so.
