AUGUST 2018 With still over a month of Summer (September 22nd) we wanted to take our readers on a tropical adventure with Danielle Campbell. We were lucky enough to be able to photograph her in Los Angeles before she left for NYC to start her new show. The location was just a dream. A lush secluded house in the hills complemented our tropical mood board. As we are closing this summer issue, I am getting ready to leave for my very own holidays. The Amalfi coast in Italy is where I will be recharging my batteries before diving into a brand new cycle of BELLO. We will be sharing some of our journey on @bellomag and more details in one of our fall issue. Ciao Aleksandar Tomovic Editor in Chief

"Summer's been crazy," Danielle tells us after a busy day of filming. "We've been shooting Tell Me A Story in two-episode blocks at a time, so it's been really hectic. It's a big cast and we're shooting all over New York which has been amazing. It's really giving the show a special quality because you will get to see the entire city explored on screen." While some stars are able to relax and unwind this summer, Danielle has chosen to stay busy filming season one since May, and continuing straight through November. All that hard work is more than worth it for Danielle, as she bubbles with excitement when she discusses the show. "It's based on three different fairy tales set in modern day New York," she says. "The first season is based on The Three Little Pigs, Hansel and Gretel, and Little Red Riding Hood. I play Kayla, a California girl who moves in with her dad and grandmother in New York, and she's a bit of a wild child. She skips school, she parties, she drinks. Her father moved her there so she could get a fresh start, but she ends up meeting a guy who turns her world upside down. It starts airing around Halloween on CBS All Access." Ask any actor and they will tell you how thrilling it is to shoot in New York. Not only does the city offer some of the most exciting locations to film in, but it also comes with a nightlife that's second to none. Danielle shares one memory in particular that stood out above the rest. "The weather in New York has been pretty crazy, and once when my friend Michelle was visiting, it just so happened to be a day when me and my crew were filming in Manhattan. We were all let off from work because the rain and lightning was so intense. So Michelle and I went out and had an amazing night. We had an incredible dinner, and were running around care free in the rain storm! It was one of my favorite summer memories by far." But it's not all just work and play for Danielle. Her summer has been rich with fertile personal growth as well. "This summer has been a great time for me personally in the sense that I've come to truly understand the power and beauty of living in the present moment. It's an invaluable
Bello
tool in how it gets you through almost any difficulty or hard time." She adds, "Being truly present is the greatest gift you can give yourself. My boyfriend and I, for example, were recently in New Orleans and we had a deep conversation about this very idea. When you're living in the moment your mind is never preoccupied with what the next moment will be -you're completely immersed in the beauty of what's right in front of you, instead of wasting your time living in the future."
writing, producing, etc. It's a very personal decision. For me, my goals change over time. When I first started out I only wanted to act, whereas now I can definitely foresee myself becoming a producer at some point. And furthermore, although right now I am not at a place where I want to direct, in the future I might definitely want to. I've learned it's important to never lock yourself down into one thing -- you need to remain fluid and open to all possibilities."
This wisdom has not only served Danielle well in her personal life, but also her career. "I love this business for the acting and the acting alone," she says. "There's a lot of peripheral goings-on in this business that can be distracting and some people can get taken over by that. My advice to those starting out would be to focus exactly on what you want, and your motivation will get you there. Surround yourself by good people who are supporting you with the best intentions, and be confident in knowing that you are enough just the way you are."
Danielle also maintains a healthy balance of work and play. And right now, it so happens that one of her favorite hobbies perfectly dovetails with her acting career. "Being in New York I have fallen in love with walking and listening to podcasts. I absolutely love it. I've also started painting this year which has been really therapeutic. Painting is such an easy art form for me to get lost in, and it's very similar to acting in many ways. In painting, you are able to go to so many different emotional places with color -- from the brightest to the darkest -- and it's the exact same experience when I'm acting. Last week, for instance, I was in a very intense, emotional scene and it was a challenge to navigate. Me and the other actor both enjoyed it so much because it was such a vibrant experience. It's the same feeling when you get lost in a painting." Tell Me A Story premieres on CBS All Access around Halloween.
Unlike some starlets who are just in it for ego, Danielle is here for the craft itself. And just like the very best in the business, she has a fearless work ethic, combined with mentors she looks up to as her 'northern stars'. "Marion Cotillard is one of my favorite actresses," Danielle tells us. "Not only is she so supremely elegant, but her choices are remarkable. I also admire Margot Robbie. She's been working in film for a long time and is not the kind of actress who had instant breakout success. What she accomplished with I, Tonya is certainly impressive, but it's an achievement that was validated by the incredible body of work she's built over the years. She started her own production company and she's bringing her own films, choices, and wisdom into the world for all of us to enjoy." So does Danielle have any dreams of producing her own series and films one day? "It's a personal choice for any actor," she says. "There's a lot to be said for women who want to focus primarily on acting. Other women, on the other hand, aspire to combine their work in acting with other ventures in fashion, business, directing,

Recently, you starred in “Altered Carbon” and “ Animal Kingdom,” making your mark in Hollywood. Tell us about your journey in filming both shows. Which one came first, which one did you find most challenging? Altered Carbon was shot in 2016/2017 and The role of ‘Frankie’ on Animal Kingdom started in 2018. They are very different shows and yet very similar, mostly in terms of what drives the human aspects... like power, greed, love and family. I had an amazing time working on both. Altered Carbon was extremely demanding physically. In relation to the character Reileen’s drive and intention was much clearer but also very dark so that was taxing. Frankie on Animal Kingdom is more of an enigma and she has a whimsical vibe, so lighter and a little easier to slip in and out of. I feel really lucky to have had the opportunity to explore both. From your first major role on AQUAMARINE to your role on the Australian series “Neighbours,” to your roles today: how would you say you have evolved as an actress? I have had so many wonderful opportunities and each one has helped me grow as an artist. I hope to continue to evolve. I had some defining personal moments on Altered Carbon where I really became fearless and felt empowered thanks to an amazing team of people and the imagination of the writers I was given many gifts creatively and have so much gratitude. How do you prepare for your roles before filming— especially those that involve playing a heroine such as in “The 100,” and “Altered Carbon”? I prepare for everything differently. In relation to The 100 and Altered Carbon it was about finding the strength of the characters convictions and grounding them. Really believing that they were fighting for what was right. Sometimes it’s a tricky balance. I don’t think it’s a good idea to play any role as ‘the bad guy’ every antagonist has to believe that they are doing what’s true and right. Growing up, what was your favorite superhero? If you could have any power, what would it be and why? I loved Supergirl and Superman. It was really nice to have played a small part in the CW’s Supergirl because growing up I loved the movie.
Bello
Bello Magazine is a style and lifestyle outlet: can you tell me about your personal style? I like to be comfortable, but I also love being flamboyant. I guess ultimately I like to mix and match. One of my favorite things to do as a treat is go to secondhand stores or Santee Alley in downtown LA. I love the imagination that goes into fashion. I feel like certain styles can bring out a different character. Sometimes I’ll buy something I would never really wear just because I can imagine the person who would wear it and I might like to explore them one day. As an artist I’m not married to anything too much because I think the way a person dresses says a lot about them, and being interested in that opens me up to a wide variety of options. I love exploring.... as a mom to a three year old mostly just practical for now. Tell me about some of the places you have shot on-location at in the world. If you had to pick a favorite place, which one would it be? Mostly it has been Vancouver which is a stunning city. Montreal is beautiful too... but I have to say Los Angeles is my favorite city. I love being here and whenever I’m away from it I’m itching to get back. It’s geographically beautiful and the light in this city lands on everything in such a stark contrasting way, much like the more abstract aspects of the town. There is no other city like it and it’s culturally so rich. When you hear the word HEROINE, what are your first thoughts that come to mind? Strong person fighting for something they believe in. Someone who can also convince others that what they are doing is right... What would you be your dream role and why? Almost every role I have had the opportunity to explore has been a dream role for different reasons, sometimes it’s also about the people you’re working with because it should be like a family. I’m looking forward to the fact that there are not as many rules about who can play leading roles. I think globally we have made a lot of progress. So I’m optimistic. I love being an artist and having no boundaries imposed on my craft. Maybe that’s wrong but personally I’m happy we are pushing out on the edges collectively and making room for new ideas.

exclusive conversation with
PIERRE PNG Photography MICHAEL BLANK
interview by Alexandra Bonnet PIERRE PNG, IS PART OF AN "INDESCRIBABLE" EXPERIENCE AS HE PLAYS IN THE ALL-ASIAN CAST MOVIE, CRAZY RICH ASIANS. BEING AN AWARD-WINNING ACTOR AND ALSO HAVING PLAYED IN THE MANDARIN MUSICAL, MULAN, PIERRE IS AN OVERALL SENSATION WHO IS STIRRING THINGS UP HERE IN HOLLYWOOD. PASSIONATE ABOUT EVERY ROLE HE HAS PLAYED SO FAR, THE HANDSOME AND TALENTED ACTOR IS ADMIRED BY MANY AND ON THE DIRECT PATH TO LIGHT AND CONTINUOUS SUCCESS. HERE AT BELLO, WE ARE GOING CRAZY FOR PIERRE PNG.
You play “Michael Teo” in the movie CRAZY RICH ASIANS that just came out in theaters. Tell me more about your experience on set and how you feel about its release as it is a very highly anticipated film. It will truly go down in history because it is the first Hollywood romantic comedy to feature all Asian leads, and ONLY the second Hollywood movie in 25 years since Joy Luck Club to feature Asians as the main cast. So if you're like 30 years old or below, as an Asian, you would never have seen Asians properly represented on the big screen until NOW! My scenes were mostly with my screen wife Astrid so my first experience on set was really nerve wrecking! The very first and last scene for Michael Teo was shot on the first day. I hardly knew half of the people on set, and I had to be half naked so yeah, I went in cold, nervous and in total awe of the beautiful Gemma Chan who plays Astrid! How does it feel to be part of a revolutionary movie as it is an all-Asian cast. Do you think this will bring about some sort of change in film and for the Asian community? Oh, the feeling is INDESCRIBABLE!!! I am still pinching myself! Yes, I do think it will make quite an impact on the film industry because this movie showcases a whole lot of Asian talent from across the globe. Enough of the kung fu sparring, golden triangle drug smuggling triad Boss portrayals. Here, you will see modern day Asians with strong traditions and successful lives. As an award-winning actor, you have played in many other features. Would you say your role as “Michael Teo,” was more challenging? Exciting? Different? Every role I have played offers some challange or other. Playing “Michael Teo” meant playing me, because I can identify with Micheal on many levels. So it was more about playing it REAL. Not so much “acting” it, if you get my drift?! Tell me about your involvement in your first ever Mandarin musical, Mulan. Being an on-camera actor, what are some challenges you faced transitioning to performing on-stage and how did you overcome them? Mulan would have to be one of my greatest achievements. The challenge of transitioning into a stage actor who had to act, sing and dance in Mandarin was something I had never taken on in my acting career. I faced my fears straight on, lived in Taiwan for a month to undergo training as a stage performer and immersed myself in the Chinese language. Before I knew it, I was on stage and ready to go! One of the highlights of my life! If you could go back in time to when you were a child, what are some pieces of advice you would give to yourself? NOT CUT MANDARIN CLASSES!!! Lol... When you are not acting, what are some of your favorite hobbies and why? The strange thing about me is I tend to take on hobbies that come after a role I have played. I played a ballet dancer once and had to undergo ballet training before and during the filming period. After the show was done with I continued with ballet lessons as I had fallen in love with the dance. On the other hand, my uni-cycling and Aikido hobbies have on several occasions turned into reel life performances on screen whenever my roles called for them! Where do you see yourself 5 years from now? Wherever life takes me. I have learnt through the years that you can’t plan the road ahead. The twists and turns are what make a meaningful and exciting life! If I ask you to describe a “Crazy Rich Asian”, what are your first thoughts that come to mind? Ken Jeong’s Goh Wye Mun in Crazy Rich Asians! 45

interview by Alexandra Bonnet ACTRESS, DANCER, SINGER AND WRITER, ANGELIC CONTINUES TO SHINE EVERYDAY. THROUGH HER YOUTUBE VIDEOS ON HER CHANNEL “THISISANGELIC”, HER COVERS AND HER ORIGINAL SONGS, SHE CONTINUES TO INSPIRE KIDS ALL AROUND THE WORLD. HAVING RECENTLY RELEASED HER SINGLE BECAUS OF U , THE YOUNG AND SPARKLING STAR IS ON THE RISE. ANGELIC CONTINUES TO HAVE A HUGE IMPACT ON HER AUDIENCE WITH HER POSITIVITY AND MOTIVATING MESSAGES--SOMETHING WE COULD ALL USE. KEEP SHINING BRIGHT !
Tell me more about your most recent single BECAUSE OF U. What is it about and what inspired you to write it? Because of U is a song about someone you like and they like you too but they’re not making any moves cause they’re really shy. Just like I say in the song “You look my way but you don’t say nothing” . At the time I wasn’t allowed to date, and there’s a line that was inspired by my mom that says, “I know my mom doesn’t let me date. But I'm sure that she'll let me. Because of U” I feel the song is for everyone cause it’s very relatable. The jumpstart to your career was your cover of Katy Perry’s “Roar” when you were just 9 years old and now you are singing covers such as that of the soundtrack “Feel the Light” which Dreamworks requested you to do for the release of the movie “Home.” How do you think you have evolved in the last few years? I have evolved alot, so much has happened ! Especially since I moved to LA a year ago. It has helped me grow so much as an Artist and I have met with so many different people who I am excited to work with. I also gained more followers on YouTube …my numbers tripled !! What inspired you to create your Youtube channel ThisIsAngelic? Tell me about the purpose of the channel: do you wish to inspire? Guide? Entertain? Having my YouTube channel has helped me put myself and my music out there. I also do a lot of positive stuff. I have created Vlogs with lots of meaning, to keep trying and to never give up. I want to inspire people in a good way. Everything positive, bringing light to the world. Like my cover "Cool Kids," it has a really good message, being a bully kills the cool kid in you. How did you feel when major artists such as Nicky Jam, Jennifer Lopez (and more) followed and shared your content? To what do you owe your success? I was really surprised when artists at their status and success shared my content and it really showed me I was doing something right and meaningful and that felt really good ! I owe everything to my mom. Without her I couldn’t do anything, she is the one that guides and advises me - She also drives me everywhere !!! ( love her ) If you had to write a song right now, what would it be about and why? I would write a song about being yourself and not to change who you are. A lot of people are going through insecurities and that's really bad. I feel like songs really empower you so a song about being yourself and not worrying about what the world thinks would be a good message. Who is one of your favorite artists who has inspired you by their genre and style? That is definitely Ariana Grande. She has inspired me from the beginning . I love her so much, her style, her music, and just everything about her ! You sing, you dance, you act and you write: combining your different talents, if you had to write a musical what would you name it? If I had to write a musical it would be about my childhood as it was really entertaining and really fun. We would ride bikes, go fishing and do all that fun things kids do growing up. I would name my musical “The Last House on The Block” which was a house in my neighborhood back in Florida and every Friday music would blast away and everyone would come over to dance and party. Such great memories ! What in your content do you think inspires and helps kids the most all around the world?Any future projects you are looking forward to? I work hard to inspire always and so everything I do my music, my writing and my message always has a positive message to never give up ! I have new original music coming out really soon and a new single about to drop.

HAVING STARTED HIS PROFESSIONAL CAREER AT THE AGE OF 12, THOMAS HAS ALREADY BEEN SEEN ALONGSIDE SOME OF THE BIGGEST STARS FROM "GREY'S ANATOMY," "AMERICAN HORROR STORY," "THE MICK," AND MORE. HE JUST FINISHED A PROJECT ALONGSIDE PETE DAVIDSON AND MACHINE GUN KELLY AND IS ON THE RISE IN HOLLYWOOD. THOMAS BARBUSCA IS READY FOR ANY ROLE SET ON IS PATH AND WE AT BELLO CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHERE HE GOES NEXT!
At such a young age you’ve had an interesting career as an actor, and you're just finishing up a project alongside Pete Davidson and Machine Gun Kelly. Tell us about your role and how you feel about being involved in this project. I play a kid named Ryan Stacey. To sum him up, he’s a good kid in the wrong crowd. He just so happens to be the douchiest kid to walk planet Earth. You have also worked with some of the biggest stars from Grey’s Anatomy, American Horror Story, The Mick and more. How did you prepare yourself before getting in front of the camera? Were you nervous to be around such experienced actors? I don’t have any ritual, or prepare myself before I get in front of the camera. I’m never nervous. I’m usually very confident going into every project and giving it my all. So far, what are some important lessons you have learned while working on different sets with actors of different experiences? There’s not a core lesson I’ve learned in particular. But I have learned to be a better actor by just being around so many great people, and picking apart people’s work and taking other actors choices and making them my own in a different way. How old were you when you decided you wanted to become an actor? How would you say your career began? I started acting when I was about 3 years old, but didn’t really start taking it seriously until I was 12. Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Being a has-been child actor and living in a van down by the river. What is a type of role that you look forward to portraying in the future? I don’t know. All roles are different in their own way and I’m exited to see what comes along in the future.

COZI ZUEHLSDORFF STARS AS ELLIE BLAKE, A TEENAGER STRUGGLING WITH THE LOSS OF HER FATHER, WHOSE MESSY ROOM, SLOPPY WARDROBE AND SEEMINGLY NEGATIVE ATTITUDE LEAD HER TO CLASH WITH HER SUPER-ORGANIZED MOM, IN “FREAKY FRIDAY.” THE FILM PREMIERES FRIDAY, AUGUST 10 ON DISNEY CHANNEL. WE HAD A PLEASURE TO CATCH UP WITH COZI.
What are 3 things you want fans to know ahead of the Freaky Friday premiere on Disney Channel? First, you should know it’s a departure from the Disney Channel movies you’ve seen in the past. This iteration of Freaky Friday explores the realness of the family dynamics we all navigate and goes deep into my character Ellie’s processing of the loss of her Dad and her conflicted feelings about her new stepdad. A lot of the executives at Disney Channel cried when they screened it! It’s a powerful and touching version of the franchise we all know and love. Second, the songs are super fun and amazing because this musical was originally developed for Broadway by Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey, the Pulitzer Prize winning composers of the Broadway musical Next to Normal. And third, we got to improv a LOT in this movie, so the comedy feels really fresh and organic and we made each other laugh constantly on set! If you could swap bodies with someone who would it be and why? I would swap bodies with Lin-Manuel Miranda because he is my career role model, in that he does it all—writes, acts, sings… I mean, who wouldn’t want to swap with him and get inside his brain?! Plus, I’ve heard he smells really good LOL. Freaky Friday has had several different iterations, if you were to resurrect or reboot a film what would it be? Ooh, that’s a tough one. Maybe Sleepless in Seattle, with me as Meg Ryan’s character and Miles Teller as Tom Hanks’ character. Ok now I’m excited. Let’s make this happen. The mother/daughter dynamic is so important in this movie, what do you hope fans take away from it?

I hope this movie makes you want to hug your mom. I feel like sometimes we resent our moms for their “nagging” and “rules”, without appreciating that all of their attention comes from their fierce maternal love. When I imagine having a kid someday, I know I would move heaven and earth to keep them safe, even if that meant sacrificing my reputation with them. Tells us about writing the lead in song for the movie? One of my biggest passions is songwriting, so I love incorporating that into the movies I’m a part of. I wrote the end credit song to Dolphin Tale 2 with Eric Berdon, and now have had the privilege of writing the main title song in Freaky Friday with Matthew Tishler. In this case, Disney had very specific guidelines and ideas for the song, so Matt and I worked within those to create the song. It was surprisingly fun to work that way, and I’m really proud of the final product. What It’s Like To Be Me is definitely a “belt it out in your car” bop. If you could score or write a song for another movie what would it be? I love this question!! I’m so down to score and write for the Sleepless in Seattle reboot I’m starring in…cuz that’s a thing now…right? Bring on the chill vintage jazz and contemporary singer-songwriter love songs. You act, you write and perform music, what else in the creative sphere do you want to tackle? And why is creativity so important to you? I’m very interested in writing a musical. I’m actually writing one right now! Here’s the amazing thing about what’s happening right now: women’s voices and talents are now, more than ever, rising to the surface of the social consciousness. As I develop my screenplay

and stage musical ideas, I have hope that people in positions of power will listen to what I have to give. And I’m very aware of what a privilege it is to grow up in a generation that has that power. To paraphrase a quote by Warren Buffett, “If you’re sitting in the shade right now, it’s because someone planted a tree a long time ago.” I feel like it’s very important for me and other creatively motivated women to push ourselves to create awesome material, because we now have a shot at making our dreams a reality. What advice do you have for other young creatives? Developing your creativity is crucial to expanding the bounds of what you can accomplish. My dear friend and fellow creative Teddy Garces gave me the greatest advice: if you work on something creative every day: writing, taking acting class, taking voice lessons, just pushing the boundaries of your skill and creativity… you’re never out of work! You’re ALWAYS busy doing something you love. We love the dramatic angles of the black and white top you are wearing in this feature. Is fashion something that is important to you? I LOVE fashion! I recently got to wear a runway look from Coach at the RDMAs and was blissfully happy. It had visible stitching, a silk underlay on the skirt, lots of sequins; kind of the perfect mix of edgy and girly to match my style. Playing with fashion is just another way to express myself. What inspires you? Honestly? God, my dad, and my mother. Full stop.
