COVER STORY

Taryn Manning, Familiar Face WORDS BY @diodiehard DIO ANTHONY, Young Hollywood Editor PHOTOS BY JSQUARED PHOTOGRAPHY

TUCSON, ARIZONA NATIVE TARYN MANNING HAS HANDPICKED THE ROLES SHE DIVES INTO FOR YEARS. FULLY COMMITTING, A TRUE ACTRESS. THIS SUMMER, HER EMMY-NOMINATED GROUNDBREAKING SERIES, ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK, RETURNS FOR ITS THIRD SEASON, A VERY HIGHLY ANTICIPATED THIRD SEASON. MANNING IS LUCKY TO SHOW UP TO WORK AND BE IN THE PRESENCE OF SUCH A MADLY TALENTED CAST OF WOMEN, AND THEY’RE LUCKY TO BE IN THE PRESENCE OF HER. ORANGE’S 14-EPISODE THIRD SEASON WILL UNDOUBTEDLY BE THE TALK OF THE SUMMER, THE WAY IT HAS BEEN SINCE ITS PREMIERE NEARLY THREE YEARS AGO. MANNING PLAYS TIFFANY “PENNSATUCKY” DOGGETT, AN INMATE AT LITCHFIELD PENITENTIARY WHO HAS A VERY SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP WITH THE LORD. SHE’S A CHARACTER WHO IS BOTH LOVABLE AND ECCENTRIC.

This past spring, the 36-year-old traded in Pennsatucky’s beige prison scrubs to step into the real life shoes of kidnapping victim and survivor Michelle Knight, who was snatched by Ohio school-bus driver Ariel Castro and kept hidden in his home for 11 years alongside Cleveland teenagers Amanda Berry and Georgina Dejesus. 7

Manning portrayed Knight’s decadelong struggle in the appropriately titled Lifetime movie Cleveland Abduction, which snagged 3.1 million viewers the night of its premiere. Readying up for the second half of 2015, her path looks bright. The familiar face opens up about two of her most gripping roles to date.

Orange is the New Black came and grew very quickly. What stands out to you looking back on three seasons of revolutionary excellence? It did grow very quickly. I’ve seen it happen to shows and it’s like, WOW, that’s amazing how something can start off on such a small scale and can pick June 2015 - BELLO

up wind and carry on into such a legend. I definitely am so grateful to be a part of a show like Orange, which has die-hard fans everywhere I turn. I didn’t start off acting to become “famous,” I loved the art of acting. Fame is a symptom for putting yourself out there, which is a whole other art form in itself. However, for shows to succeed, it requires the talent and passion from every department. That means makeup, costume, lighting, editing, and even catering, plus everything in between. Energy is contagious and I feel like the viewers catch the energy we feel on set, and that’s what sets us apart. I am very thrilled for the success and grateful for all the hardworking, talented people involved in our production. I can’t imagine what it must have been like for you playing the role of Michelle Knight. Seriously, was it as hard on you as it looks to be? I wasn’t so sure how to feel entering the role. I looked to different sources and did a lot of research in preparation for the film. On-set, my techniques were different, which I won’t get into because a magician never reveals her secrets.

However, [the time] prior to filming was different. Not only did I research Michelle, I really began to study the psychology behind both a victim and perpetrator of abuse. I wanted to be able to take this amazing story of survival and portray it in a way that general society could comprehend. No one can ever properly relive such hardship on a source used for entertainment. However, once becoming Michelle’s friend, it became my moral duty to have the audience realize that this isn’t a story about a victim, [but] rather a story of a true survivor. In my opinion, I think Michelle wants people to know that no matter the situation, big or small, we all can survive by having faith. Shortly after being cast as Knight, there was word of your mother having reservations about the role. Where was the concern? This happened to a true person. My mother, knowing how deeply I throw myself into my portrayals, she expressed concern knowing I would do the best I could to really experience this role. Of course, once she had seen it, she loved it. She watched it a few

times and thinks this is some of my best work. She also knows that I am fine now, but the initial concern was out of love for her daughter and the psychosis this has on human beings, whether it is acting or real life. No one should ever have to experience anything like that. Any last words for Orange fans? Just buckle up and get ready for the ride. You don’t know where a rollercoaster takes you until it drops! The Second Machine Age: How IBM’s Watson & Artificial Intelligence are Revolutionizing Diagnostic Medicine BY BRENT LAMBERT The world of science fiction, from Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey to Alex Garland’s Ex Machina, has managed to paint a portrait of dystopia that sends chills up our spines each time the latest breakthrough in artificial intelligence is unveiled. But in their new book, The Second Machine Age, authors Erik Brynjolfsson and Andrew McAfee make a fundamentally optimistic case for why these fears are enormously unwarranted. Although a world filled with what Stephen Hawking describes as “Full AI” is in the very distant future, artificial intelligence already surrounds us in our daily lives. Google’s autonomous cars, for example, have logged thousands of miles on American highways, and AI is even replacing certain types of lawyers and financial advisors with its far more reliable analytical processes. But perhaps the most exciting area in which AI will manifest the most significant benefits to human well-being can be found in the field of diagnostic medicine. In an interview with CBC Radio’s Anna Maria Tremonti of The Current, McAfee explains the reasons why our world

is on the cusp of a new technological age. “We should always be skeptical about technologists saying that, right? Because there’s always a technologist saying we’re on the cusp of some crazy new digital age. The reason [my coauthor and I] decided to join that chorus is because we suddenly saw technologies doing things that they were honestly not supposed to be able to do, that were the stuff of pure science fiction, and that were very quickly becoming everyday reality. I’m talking about cars and planes that drive themselves, probably better than humans do; systems that can diagnose disease as well as any human pathologist, this weird encroachment into skills and abilities that we used to think were uniquely human. We’re at the early stages of a really big transformation. I believe it’s as big as either the first two industrial revolutions, when steam power replaced muscle power, and then again when electricity and the internal combustion engine transformed physical work. We think what’s happening now - we call it the Second Machine Age - is the transformation of many different kinds of work, primarily knowledge and cognitive work.”

McAffee, who is also a co-founder of MIT’s Initiative on the Digital Economy, says this revolution is made of three components: 1) computers becoming quicker, faster, and evolving with exponential speed; 2) data, which is the life blood of science, continuing to get bigger; and 3) experts taking these massively powerful computers and oceans of data, and coming up with astonishing innovations in both hardware and software. So how, for example, will AI replace human diagnosticians? When it comes to diagnostic medicine - whether you’re a human diagnostician or a computer it’s all about pattern-matching. “We tend to ascribe magical properties to what a really good diagnostician does,” says McAffee. “But when you look more closely at it, all they are doing is pattern-matching - taking descriptions of your lab results, X-rays, etc. - and they are matching these against the body of medical knowledge that they acquired via their education and training.” Although these human diagnosticians are supremely gifted at what they do, McAffee argues, computers are better at this now. Starting in late 2015, IBM’s Watson will begin saving lives by crunching vast data sets at fourteen cancer treatment facilities across America. Processing in minutes what would normally take doctors weeks, Watson will identify patients’ precisely customized forms of treatment based on each person’s individual genetic cancer mutations. This is the very first pattern-matching specialty to be used in President Obama’s Precision Medicine Initiative announced in January 2015, and it will do so with more speed, accuracy, and efficiency than any human expert possibly could. LATINO SENSATION J.R. RAMIREZ HAS APPEARED IN HIS FAIR SHARE OF MAJOR PRODUCTIONS INCLUDING ARROW, POWER, 90210, HOUSE OF PAYNE AND 24, TO NAME A FEW. IT MAKES IT ALL THE MORE IMPRESSIVE THAT RAMIREZ ONLY BEGAN PURSUING HIS ACTING CAREER AT THE RIPE AGE OF 24. He is currently starring as Julio in the popular series Power, as well as reprising his role as Ted Grant in Arrow. I had the pleasure of interviewing Ramirez where he divulged his favorite roles, his dream Hollywood co-star and his advice to fellow friends in this risky business. As mentioned, despite only starting his acting career at 24, Ramirez has already carved out quite the name for himself in the showbiz industry. He decided to pursue acting after appearing in a commercial, after which he was hooked. “I was shooting a national commercial and after working three straight days for hours on end, I realized I didn’t want it to end. I felt like I just spent three days playing and I knew instantly. “Caught the bug,” as they say.” Both TV series Arrow and Power are critically acclaimed shows with a huge fan base and stellar ratings across the board. Playing two very different roles, Ramirez revealed which character he personally relates to more. “I would 23

work of any Latino right now! Making us proud!”

Seriously. If you really want to act, I say get in class. Every kind of class. that I can relate to. I’m the kind of person who doesn’t let anyone in easily. So much of that is why he’s risen up to be in the place he’s in the organization.” A number of iconic Hollywood stars inspired Ramirez to venture into the acting world, although there was one actor in particular who made his mark. “I always felt something different when I saw Gary Oldman on screen. It just felt like he knew how to reach a deeper level of himself, which is something I keep striving to reach.” He also revealed his ideal co-star to work alongside. “Again, tricky one, as there’s so many, but I’d like to work with Oscar Isaac in something...maybe playing brothers. I truly think he’s doing some of the best

Ramirez’s countless successes have led him to believe that with a combination of hard work and fortitude, you can succeed in this tough but rewarding industry. “Seriously. If you really want to act, I say get in class. Every kind of class. Put as many tools in that tool belt because once you get out there, the real world doesn’t sugarcoat much! You’ve gotta have a lot of patience and really have a love for playing and performing to do this crazy career. I wouldn’t have it any other way.” Ramirez’s new raunchy comedy Drunk Wedding premiered in select theatres & VOD on May 22nd. See the trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=GmTeYZ_rWmE. The Shape of Homes to Come:

Inside the Stunning 100% Sustainable Villa 4.0 in the Netherlands BY BRENT LAMBERT

“Take care of your body. It’s the only place you have to live.” These are the wise words of author Jim Rohn, whose 1991 book, Five Major Pieces to the Life Puzzle, is an examination of what he considered to be the five components of success: philosophy (how you think), attitude (how you feel), action (what you do), results (how you’re progressing), and lifestyle (the quality of life you make for yourself out of the first four pieces). If you’re like me, with summer right around the corner, there’s a very good chance you find yourself taking stock of your physical health and wishing you hadn’t helped yourself to so many second servings of cheese, dessert, and french fries this past winter.

certain spring in my step. When my home is a mess, it’s easy to fall into a state of procrastination, laziness, and lethargy. Like most of you, I’ve spent years imagining what kind of dream home I would live in if money was no object, and although I love my place as it is I can’t help but think of how it’s not the truest reflection of who I am, since I had zero participation in the design

of its architecture. My personality has been added merely on the level of supplementary aesthetics. We shape our homes, and in return they shape us. So what would I shape if I was given carte blanche to build the home of my dreams? A home can be thought of as an intimate machine in which we live out our daily lives, and because of

On top of my annual June reflections on body image and my renewed inspiration to hit the gym more often, I’ve also been giving a lot of thought recently to how much influence a home can have on one’s level of motivation to be the best version of one’s self. structure was recycled into the new home’s construction, the roofs and walls were insulated and reinsulated, and the concrete floor was poured onto a compression-resistant insulation containing a radiant heating network of tubes that spreads the heat of the geothermal-heated water from underground throughout the home. Its ventilation system is premised on natural circulation with an automated control system, which maintains maximum regulation. If the roof gets too hot in the summer a rooftop pump sprays it down with water from the brook, which then recirculates it back to the source. All materials used in the home’s construction are 100% sustainable, including the furniture as well. All waste water (greywater) is sent through an organic purification tank that cleans it before it goes into the brook, and all of the outdoor plants were taken from the existing site and are maintained without the need of herbicides or artificial fertilizers.

this I would want to create a place that was not only beautiful inside and out, but was also built on a philosophy that connects to and inspires something bigger than myself. What would happen, for instance, if one’s dream home was 100% environmentally sustainable? Is it possible that living in such a “healthy” home could influence other beneficial changes in the lives of its inhabitants?

As much as this family was inspired by their sailing trip around the world where they learned the values and importance of sustainable living, I have a feeling one could be equally inspired in much the same way by spending a year living at Villa 4.0. A towering example of what can happen when brilliant design meets sound ethics, Villa 4.0 is a dream come true and hopefully a shape of things to come.

In this regard, one such residential design that holds a special place in my heart and imagination is architect Dick van Gameren’s home renovation nicknamed Villa 4.0, located in the outskirts of Hilversum in the Netherlands. A stunning example of environmentally friendly design in its most beautiful form, Villa 4.0 is 100% sustainable. The inspiration for the home came from the clients themselves, a family that sailed around the world in 2007 and developed an appreciation for maximizing limited resources. For months the family had to generate their own electricity, make drinkable water with a watermaker, 31

Nonetheless, the sweetness of the arrangement lies ahead on the other side of this continental crossing, the Alps posing as a slow hindrance to the handmade chromed grille, for the winter had not said its farewell on the mountain high passes. Never has a destination been so perfectly balanced with the words “speed” and “two and a half tons of body weight.” And all in the same sentence, mind you.

Alps are curvaceous enough to make Monica Belucci blush. The radical part is the following. Although in a hurry, the more time he spends on the road, the bigger the smile. Although she can’t wait to see him, the more time she spends at the hidden retreat, life there is a blessing. Both awaiting with anticipation, but rushing things is not the solution. The essential message is attractive, more importantly, very real. High speed continental crossings are in the genealogy of Crewe manufacture and one gets inspired quickly to be like the

old Bentley Boys. This latest model to hit the parquet floor is all about imposing figures, but once aboard, notice the inverted dial needles. A subliminal sight reminding you of the racing heritage. Never mind the 4500 rpm redline as the powerhouse propelling these five and a half meters of steel monocoque body is unlike anything you could have imagined. Before it thumps to life with the press of a button, rest your eyes on the interior for a moment. So perfectly insulated from the outer world, this is silence and this is unrivaled craftsmanship with exquisite handcrafted details. Now press that START button and let’s hit the road. Lago di Como has a fanciful flair to it. Historically, this is where aristocracy found it’s getaway to nature and refreshing summers. Nowadays a chic place where privacy is the priciest of them all. But this is something Villa la Cassinella has always had in abundance. In fact, to say it in a correct way, you best murmur the name itself, so well hidden a secret it is. her face tells a tale. Of a brave man who cuts the cypress trees on an incredibly long ladder. Of the very best of people who make an effort to make moments feel immense. Of time and place, cherished. The master bedroom on first floor, and one needs not be an architect to understand, has the windows in three directions of the wind rose. Lake, gardens, mountains, you master the views, therefore the name. It is an art and it takes a special kind of person to understand when a guest wishes to be alone or when fancying a cushion to sit on grass. Simone handles this with admiration. Not like a ghost, because these can be scary, but in a rather aweinspiring fashion. Unfortunately not even he would be able to help you though, should you choose any particular tree on the property, to use its wood for a dashboard in the Mulsanne. Because one never really owns the Villa, just spends a certain amount of time here. But Bentley wouldn’t mind. Making any wooden parts of the interior from your personal estate forest. A word bespoke comes to my mind.Â

There isn’t much logic in the manner which this floating palace handles the curves, of course one feels the weight and its dimensions, but poise and steer are remarkable. Something to truly fall in love with. Back at the villa a boat is dispatched. A final wave to the Cassinella, who knows, maybe next spring, again. But as for now, rear privacy glass is being raised, diamond quilted seat cushioning awaiting, a frosted glass bottle cooler completed with bespoke crystal champagne flutes at 6 degrees

centigrade. Was it worth the wait? A champagne bottle opens at the villa, Simone just received a message: “Happiness is a state of mind, thank you for saving the best, for last!”

June 2015 - BELLO

2015 HAS BEEN QUITE A BUSY YEAR FOR AGNES BRUCKNER. IN ADDITION TO STARRING OPPOSITE MARY ELIZABETH WINSTEAD AND KEVIN ALEJANDRO IN CARLTON CUSE’S SMART, SPOOKY A&E SERIES THE RETURNED, SHE ALSO FOUND HERSELF AT THE CENTER OF ONE OF THE BUZZIEST ARCS IN ONCE UPON A TIME HISTORY, DRIVING VIEWERS WILD AS LILY, THE LONG LOST DAUGHTER OF FAN FAVORITE, MALEFICENT. BUT FOR AN ACTRESS WHO’S MANAGED TO THRIVE IN A TOWN AS CRAZY AS THIS ONE, BOUNCING BETWEEN INTENSE BIG SCREEN DRAMAS (THERE IS A NEW WORLD SOMEWHERE, THE WOODS, MURDER BY NUMBERS) AND WATER-COOLER TELEVISION HITS (ANNA NICOLE, PRIVATE PRACTICE, 24, ALIAS), THIS IS SIMPLY PAR FOR THE COURSE.

5. British Columbia is one of my favorite places in the world, and its majestic beauty/remoteness really lend themselves to the look and tone of the show. How much did being up

In fact, what’s much more surprising is that we snagged the talented and always candid star for a quick chat about everything from her enviable resume to her proud Hungarian roots.

can kick ass, but I also love playing the softer sides of women as well. I loved playing opposite Sandrine Holt. She’s also a very tough girl, but is also super sweet.

1. While The Returned started out seemingly on the same trail as Las Revenants (the French series upon which the show is based), it certainly carved out its own path, more so with each subsequent episode. How much of your character’s arc was revealed to you upon being hired?

I love playing strong women that can kick ass, but I also love playing the softer sides of women as well.

When I auditioned for the role of Nikki I hadn’t seen Las Revenants yet, so I only really knew a little bit of her story with Julie. After I got the part, I watched the series and it was amazing. I was so excited to be playing Nikki! 2. On that same note, it was nice to see that the season ended with Nikki alive and seemingly on the up with Julie. Is it more fun to play the intense stuff/ drama, or are you so attached to her that you can’t help but want love and stability in her life? I love that Nikki is both super strong and also very vulnerable. I enjoy playing both. I love playing strong women that ENTERTAINMENT issue - BELLOmag.com

3. How is Nikki most like/unlike you? I find a lot of myself in Nikki. I think I have both the tough exterior like she does, but also the vulnerable, softy inside that just wants to love and be loved. 4. Can you talk a bit about working with such a phenomenal cast on the show? I have to pinch myself sometimes to realize how lucky I am to be apart of such an amazing cast AND crew. It’s a very special thing when a large cast like ours can come together, have fun, and get along. We had such an incredible time shooting in Vancouver together. We went out a lot and also really just had a blast working on set together. I love my cast and crew.

there help you immerse yourself in your character and her world? It was so special to be able to shoot in such a gorgeous place. Some days when we worked up in Squamish, I’d walk around on my breaks, and just take pictures and enjoy the beautiful scenery. It was breath taking. I love being by any type of water, so it was extra special for me. The people are so friendly and helpful as well. It was lovely. 6. You recently played Maleficent’s daughter on Once Upon A Time. Were you nervous about stepping onto a show that has such a rabid, opinionated fanbase? To be honest I had NO IDEA how into the show people were. I am not a huge 40

I am a huge World of Warcraft fan, so I really love the fantasy world.

TV person. I watch maybe two shows, but mostly just sports. After getting the part, I sat down with Adam and Eddie; they kind of filled me in on the role and also the fans. After it came out that I was playing Lily the fans went wild. It was awesome! I have such amazing supporters and lovely people (I call my warriors) following me. I am so honored and blessed to have them have my back. It’s been so wonderful having their support. I love each and every one of them. 7. The producers of OUAT certainly teased audiences with the true identity of your character. When you auditioned, did you know anything about the role? I had no idea. All I knew was that my name was Autumn when I auditioned and that I was a friend of Emma’s. Only after I got the role did I have the sit down with the boys and they filled me in. They also told me I was going to turn into a dragon and my jaw fell to the floor...I was so stoked. I am a huge World of Warcraft fan, so I really love the fantasy world. It has been a dream come true.

8. You memorably portrayed Anna Nicole Smith onscreen. What was the most rewarding, and most difficult thing, about portraying a real person? The most difficult thing was knowing that her daughter, family, and friends were still alive and would most likely see it. I am a perfectionist so I always want to feel like I did 100 percent. The most rewarding part was the reaction afterwards and how much love I received. It was so nice knowing that people enjoyed the film, but more importantly, that people thought I pulled it off. It was an honor just to be able to step into her shoes for a moment. 9. Were you a fan of Mary Harron’s work before you signed on? Yes. I was so excited knowing she would direct the film. 10. Having appeared on some of the most popular shows of the past decade, which one has the most rabid fans? I’m thinking 24, but I know to never underestimate the power of Shondaland! Hands down, Once Upon A Time. They are riders of the show till the end. It’s insane. But I love that about the show.

11. I’m part-Hungarian myself, but as a kid growing up in Jersey, it was something that made me “different” so I was never the best pupil when my grandpa tried to teach me about the culture and how to speak the language. He’s since passed and I thoroughly regret that I didn’t pay more attention, but thanks to him (and all of his stories about Magyars being a mystical people whose language and culture is inherently their own), I feel very much connected to my Hungarian-ness. As a famous Hungarian/speaker of the language, do you ever feel a responsibility to “represent” for us? Is the culture something that you feel deeply connected to? Of course! I am fluent in Hungarian, thanks to my mom and dad speaking it with me all throughout my childhood. [In] most of my home videos, I’m only speaking Hungarian...haha. We used to go back to Hungary every summer for three months and vacation every year. I LOVE it over there. No place like it. I also have family there, so it is extra special for me. I love the food and the people. I love the language, I love everything about it!

Summer Playlist

ONCE AGAIN, WE AT BELLO WOULD LIKE TO PROVIDE YOU WITH A SOUNDTRACK TO HELP YOU ENJOY WHAT WE HOPE WILL BE ANOTHER AMAZING AND MEMORABLE SEASON. WHILE YOU FIRE UP THE GRILL AND SLIP INTO SOME FLIP-FLOPS, TURN THE VOLUME UP ON THE FOLLOWING 12 TRACKS. YOU’LL BE THANKING US BEFORE THE FIRST GLASS OF LEMONADE IS POURED.

1. “Collect My Love” by The Knocks feat. Alex Newell Break out the feather boas. This unabashedly flamboyant disco jam will inspire countless struts down catwalks...and pool decks.

2. “Feeling Electric”  by Parade of Lights

3. “All Hands On Deck”  by Tinashe

The electro-pop group’s debut album finally drops this month, and this new, empowering lead single is giving us all kinds of feels.

Remember Cassie’s “Me & U” from the summer of 2006? Well, this is its upgraded, hotter cousin.

 4. “Postcard” by Jukebox the Ghost We can’t get enough of this sparkling piano pop-rock track that’s finally gaining some traction among the music blogosphere.

5. “Crazy Youngsters” by Ester Dean Straight from the Pitch Perfect 2 soundtrack, this rollicking theme song for those who like to stand out has just the right amount of rebellious spirit.

6. “Marvin Gaye”  by Charlie Puth feat. Meghan Trainor Puppy love never sounded so sweet... and downright flirty-dirty.

7. “No Words” by Erik Hassle The Swedish singer-songwriter is getting his groove back after a brief hiatus with this awesomely soulful single (the music video is one of our favorites of the year).

8. “Crave” by Parachute Roll down the windows and breeze along with this foot-stomper from the Virginian band that once toured with Kelly Clarkson, Gavin DeGraw, and The All-American Rejects.

9. “California Dreaming” by Sia This rendition of the ‘60s classic gets an epic upgrade on the epic San Andreas soundtrack, and we’re loving every glorious second of it.

10. “Not Letting Go” by Tinie Tempah feat. Jess Glynne

11. “Black Magic”  by Little Mix

12. “Infinity”  by Mariah Carey

This British import is quickly becoming a summer favorite (we’ve had it on repeat ever since we first got it), a throwback jam to help make 2015 feel a little 1995.

There’s some ‘80s magic peppered in this pop gem from the girl group we thought we’d never hear from again. Just try to resist their charms on this catchy single.

The pop diva released another #1 hits compilation, so we need to pay our respects with this new throwback jam that’s making us pine for the ‘90s.

BRAD’S BUZZ

BY BRAD LIBERTI, ENTERTAINMENT EDITOR twitter and instagram @bjl233

1. Jurassic World If the gonzo trailer is any indication, quite a few things have changed at everyone’s favorite Dino-Safari Park since Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, and Laura Dern first encountered a few “issues” with the main attractions. For starters, Jurassic Park is now fully up and running with a menagerie of both aquatic and avian Paleo beasts to add to the old terrestrial faves. Even better, a hotter-than-ever Chris Pratt and a fierce-as-hell Bryce Dallas Howard are now on board for the ride.

2. The Bronze She might not make quite the same coin as series stars Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, and Johnny Galecki, but The Big Bang Theory’s Melissa Rauch has been stealing scenes for years now as cute but scary spitfire Bernadette RostenkowskiWolowitz on the hit CBS sitcom. Now she finally gets top billing in this indie comedy (which she also happened to write), and if the reviews out of Sundance were any indication, Ms. Rauch is more than ready for her close-up.

3. The Brink I know what you’re thinking: What could possibly be funnier than an extinction level event? Especially when said ELE is a global war that spreads as quickly as a bad rash... No, it’s not exactly your typical comedic fare, but this new HBO half hour comedy from Weeds EP, Roberto Benabib - starring Tim Robbins and Jack Black - offers up humor as black as its prognosis for our future.

4. “Yoga” - Janelle Monáe, Jidenna For those of us still reeling from the loss of our beloved hit-making machine RiRi (thanks, Kanye, for steering her towards pretentiously artsy crap like Four Five Seconds), it’s nice to know that J. Monáe is around to deliver exactly the type of summery, sex-tinged booty bouncer we were waiting for.

5. “Classic Man” - Jidenna ft. Roman GianArthur Wondering how the Nigerian-American hip-hop crooner came virtually out of nowhere to claim two of the hottest chart-toppers of the spring/summer? All you have to do is listen to the irresistable melody of this easy breezy jam - the first single off his upcoming EP, The Eephus - and you’ll have your answer.

You’re being called to write. If that means waking up a little bit earlier than usual, then do it. Let your thoughts flow freely for at least three pages. Your inner beingness needs it.

You’ve learned a lot from your experiences and your relationships. Move forward with confidence, taking these lessons with you. Your old patterns and habits will fade away and be replaced by new experiences.

Keep up the smart work. Your persistence is paying off. Remember the old saying: “squeaky wheel gets the grease.”

The time is now! It’s time to strike while the iron is hot. Not sure if you should go? Go! Not sure if you should make that deal? Make it. The Universe supports you.

You’re a natural born leader. Keep moving forward with your plans. You’ve got a handle on the situation; the people who are meant to follow will do so.
