Letter from the Editor The layers are officially off, our coats are packed away, and our summer has officially started. In celebration, BelloMag Fashion takes to the outdoors, strips down our models, and plays up hot-weather essentials. Ryan Eggold, star of NBC’s breakout hit drama, The Backlist, and this month’s cover star, unequivocally embodies and perfectly explains it: “It’s getting warmer now, the moods are improving, and the clothes are coming off. It’s all very exciting.” We couldn’t agree more.

Take Ricky Michiels feature, Castaway, featuring Wilhelmina model, Matt Poeschl. Baring perfect abs on the beach, Matt takes us to a laid-back yet sensual place that heats up even the coldest air conditioned cubicle. Or take TJ Mannou’s trek to the desert hills, where gleaming bare skin contrasts perfectly with pre-fall woolen gowns. Barcelona, Spain based photographer Natalia Aguilera features Wilhelmina model Gia in easy-to-wear sundresses and subtle statement accessories at an essential summer stop in “No Vacancy.” Contributing Writer, Brent Lambert, whisks us to Nathan Burkett’s Austrialian garden that conjurs up a feeling of zen that only Mother Nature could seem to do before him. Who couldn’t spend their entire summer outdoors with a perfect yard like that? The outdoors aren’t called Great for nothing. Click through, get inspired, tell us what you think, and show us your #bellofashion moments on Instagram as you head outside and enjoy these high days of summer. Yours truly, Kimmy Erin Kertes

FOREWARD With BELLO now being weekly, I find myself writing these forwards on set of a photo shoot currently taking place for an upcoming issue. It makes sense that I would be doing this, and it definitelly leaves me to appreciate how lucky we are to have this type of creative opportunity in our lives. While presenting you this FASHION issue, I am looking at Jennette McCurdy trying on an amazing Valentino dress for her upciming cover story in our Sexy issue coming out at the end of July; a shoot you are absolutely going to love. But let me get back to this FASHION issue which happens to be in the process of reinventing itself. This section has been concentrating on mixing celebrities and fashion for some time now, but we are going to start bringing in new voices as well as presenting you with even more inspirational fashion stories. We are influenced by all the messages we are getting @BELLOmag though all the social media, and we are taking notice and applying it to our BELLO mag format. In order to make this issue special, we decided to step outside the box (what you would usually see in most any fashion magazine), by making Ryan Eggold our cover boy, and setting up his photo shoto in an urban enviroment (which you will be seeing more and more in BELLO). Then we decided to take you on a journey around the world with many great fashion stories. We want to make this summer the best it can be, no matter if you are experiencing the heatwave that is currently hitting Europe, or the draught here in California, or the social unrest we are witnessing in middle east, to the economic troubles in South America... We all just have to remember that we only have one life to live, and no matter how hard it seems at the time, we should all work really hard to make our lives as good as it can be, but never forget to enjoy, love, and play... as life is also just too short... Ciao, Aleksandar Tomovic editor in chief

INTRO The Blacklist’s Ryan Eggold graces the cover of our July Fashion issue, shot at HQ Avalon studio in downtown LA by fashion photographer, Trever Hoehne. Hope you are all having a fabulous summer thus far. Sincerely, Leslie Alejandro Executive Director

RYAN EGGOLD HAS TAKEN THE CHARACTER OF TOM KEEN TO NEW HEIGHTS OF AUDIENCE ADORATION ON NBCS BREAKOUT HIT THE BLACKLIST. WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN JUST ANOTHER DETESTABLE TV CAD HAS BEEN INJECTED WITH A CERTAIN HUMANITY, DUE TO HIS LAYERED PORTRAYAL. IN DOING SO, EGGOLD HAS EFFECTIVELY CREATED A SWOON-WORTHY HEARTTHROB OUT OF WHAT IS BASICALLY A LYING SOCIOPATH. NO EASY FEAT. BUT ONE CAN’T HELP BUT WONDER IF IT WERE ANOTHER ACTOR, WOULD ANY OF US CARE SO MUCH ABOUT THE OUTCOME OF OUR BELOVED LIZ AND TOM? OR INSIST THAT THE CHARACTER CONTINUOUSLY RETURN FOR OUR OWN SELFISH ENTERTAINMENT, EVEN IF INVOLVES HIM MURDERING PERFECTLY INNOCENT PEOPLE WHILE RESEMBLING A TERRIFYING NEO-NAZI?

It appears Tom Keen, a.k.a Jacob Phelps, a.k.a Ryan Eggold, has entered that exclusive “no matter WHAT!” club in which the audience is willing to accept anything he does as long as we can have him back for just one more episode. Is that borderline mass obsession? Or just good acting? Congruently, Ryan Eggold should be praised for a job well done...and for unintentionally making monsters of us all. As always, as in the case of our interview, the devil is in the details. “Please allow me to introduce myself, I’m a man of wealth and taste...” - Mick Jagger, Sympathy for the Devil “Did I mention I’m currently living in a small closet?!” Eggold exclaims, leaving me unsure of how firmly his tongue is placed in his cheek. This is the description of his current residence in New York City, a metropolis notoriously famous for its tiny urban abodes. The Blacklist is shot on the East Coast, so he recently relocated to a place he’s wanted to live for a while: “At this point in my life, I think I do prefer New York a little. I love California, and I’ve lived in L.A. for many years, and I may end up back there at some point in my life, but for now I am very happy here “ 9

He coughs due to a recent tonsillectomy, but he remains genuinely playful: “I love New York. It’s getting warmer now, the moods are improving, and the clothes are coming off. It’s all very exciting.” “Use all your well-learned politeness, or I’ll lay your soul to waste…” Yes, Ryan Eggold is devilishly handsome, but there’s a slightly darker sense of fun just under the surface. A more wicked charm than most perhaps, or maybe an intelligence that makes you fully aware that, if you were to fumble, he could verbally destroy you. Not bad for the self-proclaimed “theater nerd” that studied at USC. For that reason, I tread a little more carefully. The actor brandishes a familiar wit -- Russell Brand and Eddie Izzard come to mind --that you don’t want to Tango with. He seems the sort who would enjoy a good argument and win. As for bantering, well, that should be safe enough. “Pleased to meet you, hope you guess my name.” On the subject of the sudden fascination with Tom Keen (the character’s beard has his own Twitter profile, @ TomKeensBeard!), he feels immensely grateful: “It’s a real gift from the writers I tell you. Such great stuff, some very

polarizing characters involved. I hope the writers get all the credit in the world.” Eggold has grown quite fond of the orphan Tom: “Wait, wait, technically he’s not a psychopath, he’s a sociopath.” “Are you sure?” I inquire. “Oh yes, 100 percent. This,” he continues, “is what makes him unflinching and at times incredibly violent.” “And he kills people,” I remind him. “There’s that too,” he admits, laughing loudly, “but what I hope I’ve achieved with Tom…is to humanize him.” “So if you meet me, have some sympathy.” The other thing that keeps us addicted is the secrecy surrounding the show. Fortunately, by the time this is published the second season finale will have aired. “Finally, I can purge! Normally, I can’t discuss ANYTHING!” he laughs. “Okay, if I need a hug, catch me if I fall. Yes, he does have feelings for Liz, feelings he probably doesn’t fully understand. She’s the closest thing he ever had to normalcy. No family, no love, no honest relationships, then he fakes one for two years, and it’s the closest point of July 2015 - BELLO

reference he has to a real experience. And it kinda feels good, you know?” “But what’s puzzling you is the nature of my game.” I feel immediately comfortable with Ryan (he’s genuinely friendly), but then that underlying wit does make him seem a little bit dangerous. And that’s not a bad thing. In fact, it’s proved to serve him very well on the show, allowing him to hold his own with the force of nature that is James

Spader. On working with Spader, he explains how he approached it: “I forget that this is the person I watched and admired growing up. He’s so good, it’s a joy working with him, but I have to focus on the scene at hand. This job is strange sometimes in that way; you have to divorce yourself from how you saw actors you admire. Does that make sense? It’s a vision of a person from a separate life. If you don’t, you will get distracted. I make an active effort to see him as a co-worker, which is odd, as I LOVE all his movies.”

5 QUICKIES WITH RYAN: Personal style? Easy, comfortable and lazy… generally. You don’t seem the sloppy sort. I imagine you dress like a smart teacher. I dress nothing like Tom! Nothing! (Laughs) What did you last binge-watch? In Romania, five seasons of Game of Thrones in a week or two. Was devastated by the Red Wedding episode. SPOILER ALERT: he gets an arrow through the heart and just says, “mother.”

Please don’t make people think all I do is walk around listening to Bach. You could just put Ryan also listens to “very cool” music.

What did you listen to last on your iPod? It sounds odd, but Bach. People-watching in New York while listening to Bach is kind of amazing. What don’t we know? Are you good at carpentry? I AM. I am amazing carpenter! No but I can do accents and impressions. (*He does an impression of Eddie Redmayne that is actually a spot-on Mick Jagger!) What do you do that has nothing to do with your job? I write songs, I sing. Well, I did before I had a tonsillectomy. That’s really messed with my voice. I play guitar and piano. I put a song out for fun, from Lucky Them....I wrote another one called “Love Song.” I really liked that. It was folksy, you could say. But, I need to go back to the Bach question: I also like listening to Dylan and the Rolling Stones. Mick Jagger was a lightning bolt of strange talent sent from above. Please don’t make people think all I do is walk around listening to Bach. You could just put Ryan also listens to “very cool” music. Catch Ryan in the upcoming star-studded film Fathers and Daughters and on The Blacklist this fall on on NBC. Follow him @Ryan_Eggold. 11

DENIM-INLAID BOARDS by 3×1 AND TOKEN SURFBOARDS

What do you get when you mix the luxury denim sufboards ? Well you can find out this summer in Southhamptons, where 3x1 atelier is oppening a store and celebrating it with custom capsule of denim-inset boards in colaboration with Token Surfboards.

Built in 2013, the project was helmed by Candida Tabet Arquitetura firm. The designers responsible for the home wanted it to appear open and leisurely to encourage family time. To achieve this aesthetic, they intentionally blurred the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces, and left many rooms partially open. To create a sense of warmth, they also heavily favored wood, eschewing concrete completely where they could.

The price point of $280 is making it a perfect home decore piece, and the colors are jsut right to make you feel like relaxing on the east coast.

#2LISTEN FLOATING RECORD VERTICAL TURNTABLE The Floating Record vertical turntable is an impressive blend of technology and design that is beautiful and functional. There’s no need to setup a cartridge or purchase any additional gear like preamps. Instead, The Floating Record vertical turntable works out of the box. Inspired by the black and white images of Studio 54 in the ‘70s, where you were as likely to accessorize your gold lamé jumpsuit with foot-tall platforms as you were a white horse, those glasses are jsut the perfect accessory for the summer. They make you feel even more radiant than the sun.

The new Chanel ‘Chance Eau Vive‘ campaign directed by Jean-Paul Goude is so charming. It takes place in a Chanel styled bowling alley and all the models Cindy Bruna, Romy Schonberger, Rianne Van Rompaey and Sigrid Agren are in beautiful pastel skirts with crop tops in lace and black vests. The pins and bowling balls are all large perfume bottles - it feels magical.

Throughout history we’ve seen so many variations on the swimsuit, with both the bikini and the monokini making valid advances in swim preference, but it really seems like the one-piece – or the maillot – is having a moment. With everyone, actually. “ Click the Image for the full article, ...

Find Inner Peace at OMNI Amelia Island BY DEE TRILLO Lifestyle and Travel Editor| Dee@BelloMag.com| @HauteFrugalista

AS SUMMER BEGINS, IT IS TIME TO SOAK IN THE SUN, ENJOY THE BEACH, PLAY OUTDOORS AND SPEND TIME WITH LOVED ONES. IT IS ALSO A TIME TO RELAX AND LOOK FOR A PLACE WHERE TO RECONNECT WITH OUR WORLD.

An environment that feels tranquil and comforting, where there’s no need to rush into anything, or schedule the day. OMNI Amelia Island Plantation Resort has that ideal vibe to feel at peace and relaxed again. Located in the Northern Coast of Florida, Amelia Island is the only territory in the United States that has been subjected to the rule of 8

different flags. The city has been the home for pirates, rumrunners, nobles and confederates that shaped the architecture, lifestyle and cuisine of this picturesque town. Surrounded by beautiful beaches and a green landscape, Amelia Island is one of the most prominent fishing and

shrimping centers in the South. Been so close to the water is very inspiring and nurturing. It gives you the emotional space that invites you to meditate. An idyllic place for those seeking for a muse or to become one. The OMNI Amelia Island Resort can give you the rest your soul craves. Imagine starting your day with toes touching warm sea

shelled sand, a waterfront cabana, and beautiful clear waters. Now, move onto the afternoon. You take a swim in the indoor pool because, well, why not?, and grab a pizza made with sea salted crust. Then, is evening, and you can still wear your sandals without looking underdressed. Is time to grab a handcrafted “Dee” cocktail- you read that right!- and roast s’mores on a beach bonfire. Lastly, lounge by the pool at night, sleep, and repeat. Start your day the right way with fresh orange juice, coffee, tea, or hot chocolate with some yummy organic honey cakes. The morning beverages are delivered daily for your pleasure and comfort at the time of your choice. No need to call concierge or wait for room service!

The aquaponics greenhouse and organic garden are a great spot to host dinners and wedding rehearsals. RUM AND TEQUILA EXPERIENCE: This has got to be one of my favorite things from the OMNI Amelia Island Resort. Their professional mixologist Lance Wright has the expertise to

know exactly what he is doing and how to introduce you to some of the finest spirits. The flights- sets of spirits carefully chosen- are curated in a thoughtful way to make sure they offer a broad range of tastes from bold to mild. Starts with telling you the history behind the creation of some of the most known Tequilas and Rums, and explaining the different alcohol levels and aromas that are included in each of the brands. This takes the tasting experience to another level.

THE SPROUTING PROJECT: The dining on-site is excellent. I have not tasted freshest fishes in Florida than at Amelia Island. They are caught daily and brought to the property, where they are lightly seasoned so the natural flavors can take the spotlight. Chef Daven Wardynski has turned a beautiful garden into The Sprouting Project. An area dedicated to growing herbs, spices, fruits and raising fishes. There are 39

Nathan Burkett’s

“Equilibrium” Backyard Garden Sets a New Gold Standard BY BRENT LAMBERT

WITH A 14-YEAR CAREER AS A DESIGNER UNDER MY BELT AND 5 YEARS INTO MY BLOG, I FEEL CONFIDENT ENOUGH OF MY “DESIGN EYE.” IN ORDER TO FIND ONE GOOD DESIGN STORY WORTHY OF PROFILING, IT OFTEN REQUIRES LOOKING AT 50 REJECTS. BUT WHEN I CAME ACROSS THIS EXQUISITE BACKYARD GARDEN DESIGN BY MELBOURNE-BASED LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT, NATHAN BURKETT, IT WAS LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT.

Entitled “Equilibrium,” the garden is, in fact, an installation presented at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show this past April 2015. Burkett took home the Show Garden Gold Medal for his impressive FASHION issue - BELLOmag.com

harmony between an architectural sophistication, the creation of a powerful sense of space, a brilliant use of materials, and a sublime integration with the landscaping components.

“The garden is soft with movement and organic elements, while still recreating my signature aesthetic of symmetry and clean, crisp lines,” says Burkett. Among his most interesting design moves is a cantilevered U-shaped 48

trellis and the U-shaped seating area with a fire pit and firewood storage bench. On his website, Burkett elaborates on his passion, his inspiration, and what he loves about the design-build process. “I am often asked why I don’t relieve myself of the challenges of offering a landscape construction service and concentrate solely on design. For me this has never been a consideration. A good garden design is no better than the paper it is drawn on without an excellent execution of the design. This is where many people fall into the fatal

49

trap of farming out a design to multiple contractors seeking a dirt cheap price. Landscaping is amongst the most physically demanding of trades and nobody in their right mind would do it for next to nothing!” “Generally, where there is a dirt cheap price there are equally dirt cheap (and nasty) products and craftsmanship associated with that price,” adds Burkett. “Our team take pride in our ability to follow and coordinate a garden design from inception through to the highest quality implementation. We also prepare a plan for ongoing

maintenance requirements to ensure the original garden design is ultimately realised. Where our clients have a preferred landscape contractor we will work with both the client and contractor in a management capacity to ensure the garden design is implemented without compromise.” If you’re dreaming of ways to freshen up your own backyard this summer you will find even more inspiration by checking out all of Nathan’s extraordinary designs at his website www.NathanBurkett. com.
