Letter from the Editor T h e summer of 2015 has been one for the books in the world of Entertainment. We’ve experienced the arrival of such movie stars as Chris Pratt in a record-breaking summer film that will surely be referenced for ages to come. Pratt, an accomplished actor in his own right has enjoyed instant success and recognition from a franchise the American public is all too familiar with, proving that in-fact there is always room for improvement. In our last issue, we celebrated the emergence of new faces in Hollywood. With July’s simply titled Boy’s Issue, we bring to light some familiar faces. Faces and talents that you’ve seen before, and much like Pratt this summer, have been given their best stage to date. Internet sensation Joey Graceffa spearheads the issue with a story so true to our times, it’ll inspire even the biggest non-techies to pick up a camera, all the while picking up his book; In Real Life, which depicts Joey’s rise as a YouTube celebrity to some less than glossier moments in his life and the pixelated world he’s grown accustomed to. Hailing from Australia, we bring to you Chasing Life’s Richard Brancatisano in a steamy, Interview-esque editorial that only the Los Angeles sun could provide, shot by extraordinarily innovative photographer Maarten de Boer.
#BTS CLIPPED Photo Shoot
In a special piece, tying the issue together, the boys of TBS’ very funny and very Boston sitcom, Clipped bring the funny and color of summer. In the months leading up to July, I sat in a sound stage inside Warner Brothers’ Burbank Studios and watched as the cast and creators of Clipped produced a show from table-read to premiere night. Created by the geniuses responsible for the 9-year run of sitcom classic, Will & Grace Max Mutchnick & David Kohan may have created their second hit. I believe next year these faces will be hard to get away from. I won’t say I told you so. Enjoy what summer has brought our way, Dio Anthony, Young Hollywood Editor

AT AGE 24, BONAFIED YOUTUBE SENSATION, JOEY GRACEFFA HAS ACCOMPLISHED MORE THAN MANY AT THIS STAGE IN HIS LIFE. IN A NEW WORLD WHERE THE ONLY FIGURES THAT SEEM TO MATTER ARE THOSE ON TV OR THE INTERNET, JOEY GRACEFFA IS A WALKING BILLBOARD FOR THE NEW AGE. A PRODUCT OF TODAY’S GENERATION NOTIFICATION. LIKE HUNDREDS OF YOUTUBERS, HE HOLDS MORE FOLLOWERS ACROSS SOCIAL MEDIA THAN ONE COULD POSSIBLY COUNT. HIS INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT ALONE, BOOSTS A FOLLOWER COUNT OF OVER 1, MILLION. HIS YOUTUBE ACCOUNT IS A FRACTION OF THAT, TOTALLY UP TO 4 MILLION. A GAME CHANGER FOR HIM AND EVIDENTLY SOCIETY, SINCE JOEY GRACEFFA’S LIFE, AS HE KNOWS IT, HAS NEVER BEEN THE SAME SINCE.
What prompted you to begin making videos? I got my first camcorder when I was eight years old, and I had always been making videos, at home, whether they were skits or of my family. YouTube was sort of the natural progression of that. You’ve been on a book tour following the release of your book In Real Life. Have you encountered any particularly interesting stories from your fans? It’s always cool to hear how my book or a certain video has inspired them. Or their own coming out stories to their families and how I influenced that in some way. Whether they’re relating to me regarding an alcoholic parent or a sibling with autism or another form of learning disability. As long as they’re inspired and find something to relate to I feel like I’m doing something right. Which up until now has been exactly the case. Was it tricky for you to come out in such a public forum? 9
No, because it’s been building up for quite some time. I’ve known that I’ve been gay for a number of years. And ever since I came out to my friends and family two years ago, I’ve had a lot of time to focus on myself and feeling comfortable and confident with who Joey was. It gave me the strength and time to feel ready to come out publicly. That’s what I was waiting for. To make sure that I wasn’t scared or uncomfortable about it all. What has been the most rewarding part of holding such a huge Internet following? My life, since, has become really awesome with the opportunities I’ve been given for having such a vast following. I’ve been able to move out to California, and support myself and my family—from making YouTube videos, nonetless. I feel really fortunate that I can have a really cool “job” where I can be my own boss, get to make my own hours, and ultimately make the videos that I want to make, and want people to see.

In your opinion why do you think this advent of Internet kids is such a focus in society today? For me, when I was growing up, I didn’t feel like I had someone who I felt like I could listen to his or her stories and be inspired. When YouTube came around, that’s when I got it. I got inspiration from these people that I felt were just like me, and weren’t these idolized figures that were out of my reach. These people were at their homes. I thought, there is nothing more relatable than someone speaking to me from the comfort of his or her home, sharing a story, a lifestyle, whatever it was, it was grounded and down to earth, which in the end makes a perfect mix. Especially for someone whose searching for to feel that. So I am sure, some of your fans sit and watch your videos repeatedly. Is there an online person you’re currently obsessed with? Yes! At the moment, I’m obsessed with a few people. My favorites right now are, Gigi Gorgeous, Graveyard Girl, and Natalie Tran. I’m definitely guilty of watching their videos a bit more than I’d probably admit to. I’m curious, As an Internet Kid, are you guilty of always being on your phone like most people? 11
Not really. I’m not really good at social media surprisingly. It’s usually when I’m at home, nearby my computer that I’m active on those sites. But I only really look at my phone if I’ve received a text message…for the most part. If I’m around people, I’m usually focusing on the present moment. You touch of a few serious topics in your book. Do you remember what it was like for you emotionally, putting the book together from start to finish? Very exhausting, that I do remember. Writing it down was one thing, versus getting it out there. There were a lot of drafts, and a lot of rereading, and reediting. Not to mention the cutting out of some things and adding of others. So, it was a perfect combination of building from an experience and editing it down.
You may feel like your circumstances are holding you back from doing the things that you want to. But you have the power to make your life what you want it to be.
Lastly, if there were a message that your videos imply, what would it be? I think the underlying message is about going for your dreams. You may feel like your circumstances are holding you back from doing the things that you want to. But you have the power to make your life what you want it to be. As long as you work hard enough, and push forward, you can make your life better. I did. Follow Joey @JoeyGraceffa July 2015 - BELLO

WHAT CAN BE BETTER THAN BEEN AT A PLACE THAT CAN CATER TO YOUR EVERY NEED AND WHIM? SOMEWHERE EVERYBODY, LITERALLY, KNOWS YOUR NAME AND GREETS YOU BY IT. ONE THAT HAS NAILED THE VIBE BETWEEN STYLISH AND PEACEFUL. A PARADISE FILLED WITH LUSH NATURE AND BREATHTAKING VIEWS THAT CAN TAKE YOU FROM WETLAND TO LOUNGE BAR, IN A HEARTBEAT. THAT IS WHAT YOU WILL FIND AT THE RITZ-CARLTON ORLANDO, GRANDE LAKES. THE GORGEOUS RESORT HAS EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO MAKE YOUR VACATION, OR STAYCATION FOR THOSE LOCAL TO FLORIDA, AS DREAMY AS YOU COULD IMAGINE IT TO BE.

The décor and architecture is uber chic, which is expected of this 5-star resort, but what is most special about it is their commitment to preserving their adjoining ecosystems. The Greg Norman course was built around the wildlife wetland system that surrounds the hotel, and with over 500 acres in land, more than 150 acres have been dedicated to promoting a healthy environment for the species that live there. One of the many activities you can enjoy without leaving the hotel are the Eco-Tours. Meant to showcase the beauty of Florida, these guided outdoor
experiences teach you about the history behind the various flora and fauna living in Orlando, and how they are cohabiting in perfect- or imperfect- harmony. But first, begin your stay in an Executive Suite with 2 balconies overlooking the golf course, pools and lake. Trust me, you will not regret it! The orange sunset over the turquoise waters, are photo- or let’s say snap- perfect. A commodious suite with ample closet space, living room area with TV and bar, and 2 fully-stocked marble bathrooms that will make you feel comfortable and at
ease. Picture yourself wrapped around soft sheets, waking up to the smell of coffee, and draped in the plushest robe that will ever touch your skin. I mean, if you’re going to escape: you need to do it right or not do it at all! It would not be a Ritz-Carlton unless there was an extremely well-arranged concierge team. In fact, I have to be honest and admit I got a bit spoiled, and if you find me turning into a diva is all their fault. How could you not feel pampered when the house keepers leave you little notes with information on the weather for the next day? Or the Valet service kindly cleans your windshield so your vision cannot be blocked during your trip?. If you are a parent, this one is for you: How could you not feel great when the Guest Relations crew sets up a fullon camping tent inside your suite, so your children can read books and enjoy s’mores under the light of lanterns? That was one of my favorite things during my stay. They knew I had my little ones with me, and they catered to their mood in such a thoughtful way that it made my job a bit easier, and my time there truly relaxing.

What do you want to do next?: The possibilities are endless and The Ritz-Carlton Orlando can be your shell. Do you feel like relaxing by the pool? No problem! The hotel has 2 on-site with private cabanas that include TV with cable, towels, and an assortment of drinks and yummy fruits to bite on while soaking in the sun. An exclusive treat is that you can visit the sister property JW Marriott and enjoy their amenities and restaurants. Is like 2 hotels for the price of one! Perhaps you need to align your energies and rejuvenate your skin. In that case, the Spa is the place to go. The facilities are comfortable and spacious, allowing you to have the privacy you need, while getting the rest you deserve. Is like an oasis within the oasis, if that makes any sense. Get in the mood by sipping on a White Ambrosia Tea with natural Honey Pearls, and start your treatment with a Thai massage. This Asian technique consists of a mixture between stretching and acupressure, perfect to relieve pain and decompress the muscles after a workout session. The compressions will make you feel reenergized and ready to take on the day.

Then take your worries away at the adult-only pool where you can spend the day without noises or interruptions. However, don’t worry about keeping your hair dry for the night. Swim at ease and get beautified at The RitzCarlton Spa with a Keratin Smoothing Hair Therapy, a citrusy Florida Fresh or Honey Harvest Mani-Pedi, and a pro Make-Up application with expert lesson included.
Kayak in Shingle Creek: During the 1 hour canoeing down the Cypress dominated creek, I had a close encounter with Mangroves, Spanish
Moss, Red Maple, and Oak trees, that could perfectly be the scenario for a Lord Of The Rings movie. I’m sure Tinkerbell also has a home somewhere inside there! In addition, there were a variety of birds, like the Red Belly Woodpecker, fishes like the Bluegill and Florida Black Bass, snakes and lizards. An interesting point is that there are many species that have come from other environments, which has damaged the native balance of our Everglades. Such is the case of the tree lizard which is fighting the Cuban Gecco for survival. The Wild Terro- southeast born plant-

can be used as a food source, but it has become invasive because it reproduces very quickly and is not consumed by the animals. The tour was so fun and informative that I decided to share it on my Periscope @ HauteFrugalista, where many viewers asked interesting questions, including: “Are there any Gators?” and “How old
are the trees?”. To answer: Yes, there are American Alligators, but au contraire to public assumption, these animals have an inherent fear of humans and are unlikely to attack you. That is: unless you feed them and they think your hand is a piece of chicken! About the trees, anywhere from 100 to 150 years old, but some can go as far as 3000 years! Talk about a throwback!
The Club Level Life: Then there is the Club Lounge... This is like whole-another level- do everything for you- kind of service. Regardless if you upgrade, or not, to enjoy the additional perks, the hotel service is still superb. However, having access to it can definitely make everything run smoother. First, is located on the 14th Floor which gives you an unbelievable view of the resort and pools. The penthouse styled lounged offers a full service of daily food and beverages set up by times and meals that goes from 7am until 10pm. It has a play area for kids that includes board games, toys, TV and their own table with cut fruits, vegetables, sandwiches and wraps. You can wake up and indulge in a healthy eggs, sausage, waffles and fresh fruits breakfast. Maybe sleep-in and have an early lunch instead with a menu that goes from pesto chicken, quinoa salad, fish with vegetables, and a broad selections of wines. If you feel like having a snack or dessert, after

a day out, then go over for cakes and mousse, or a cordial.
Feast on at Highball & Harvest: Now, if what you want is a delicious seat down meal, then this is the place to go. Their modern southern-inspired menu includes dishes made with harvested vegetables and poultry from their onsite garden at Whisper Creek Farm, and cocktails infused with fresh fruits and herbs. Everything here is as tasty and healthy, as it looks. There is so much to choose from that it can become your favorite place for lunch or dinner. Begin your banquet with The Southern Spread, which includes the most amazing Pimiento Cheese Dip, a Duck & Andouille Gumbo and Crab Cakes with Cajun Remoulade. Their plates are large enough to share, just as if you were at an old’ school southern family feast. The entrees consist of daily catch fish and meats curated by their chef. Don’t be surprised if your dish has a few fruits in there! At Highball & Harvest, they love to add unexpected flavors and ingredients that will make your meal that much more interesting. The Honey-Lime Skirt Steak has a MangoCilantro Vinaigrette, and the Chicken Picnic comes with Spicy Watermelon. A delightful treat for your senses!
YOUNG HOLLYWOOD issue - BELLOmag.com
Bird Watching Experience: It was such a nice thing to experience nature with my children. Between work and routine, I rarely have time to enjoy outdoor activities with them. The RitzCarlton Orlando, Grande Lakes is such an immense property that it seriously feels as if you are visiting a park. There are trails for those who like to jog, ride bikes, or take a serene walk surrounded by the sounds of birds and the breeze over the trees. It truly gives you time and space to collect your thoughts and take your mind off troubles. During our guided tour, we were able to spot native avian species and learn about their habits and habitats. Red Belly Woodpeckers, Red Shoulder Hawk, Grey Egret, Sandhill Crane,
Seagulls, and a Blue Heron were some of the unique birds that call this land their home. We also bumped into turtles, ducks, 2 deers and a baby- not so little- alligator. What is most rewarding is that you can become part of this adventure by building a one-of-a-kind birdhouse and installing it on the tree of your choice in Shingle Creek. Allow nature to do its work and next time you visit, pass by to see if your home has new tenants. You might give shelter to a nest or lovebirds calling your crafty creation, their home. So many things to do and enjoy at The Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes. Visit RitzCarlton.com/Orlando To Learn More and Book Your Stay.

Who Are Gypsetters WRITTEN BY MARK NORRIS
THE MILLENNIAL GENERATION IS THE GENERATION OF CHANGE. THE GENERATION THAT WAS ECLIPSED FROM THE HARD FOUGHT ERAS OF THE MIDDLE 19TH CENTURY, ARMED WITH A GRASP OF TECHNOLOGY AND FREEDOM THAT PREVIOUS GENERATIONS COULDN’T EVEN DREAM OF. THEIR VIEWS WILL LIKELY RESHAPE THE POLITICAL LANDSCAPE FASTER THAN THE POLITICAL CLASS CAN CATCH UP. AND SO ARE THEY RESHAPING THE WAY WE SEE LIFE AND OUR SOCIETY AS A WHOLE.
Welcome please, the GYPSET GENERATION. An emerging group of artists, musicians, fashion designers, surfers, travelers, instagrammers, and general bon vivants, who lead seminomadic, freewheeling lives. Think about the people you have met along your journey through life that might resemble such a character. They are ever growing in numbers. They are people that (at least try to) perfect the high-low approach to life that fuses the freelance and nomadic craft of a gypsy, with the sophistication and global orientations of a jetsetter. Coined by Julia Chaplin as “an alternative way of traveling and living that’s based more on creativity, than money”. Gypsetters are more likely to fuse the freelance elegance of a teepee in Ibiza, than a luxury 5-star resort in the Bahamas. Adventure photographer and film-maker, Alex Strohl, creates a life of travelling around the world photographing extraordinary places for people to see, creating inspiring images, and whilst he’s been at it, built 23

parents to help him aid a charity that is set up for kids not as fortunate as him; “People in Africa and other poor countries can die with dirty water that they have to drink and we have to help people in poor countries to live. My idea is to get money from selling my toys to help kids have better lives. Please help me save people’s lives.” The charity (founded by Scott Harrison) has built up a following on Instagram of over 262,000 people and has the backing of some of the largest corporations in the world. This all transpires into a reality where a new generation of GYPSETTERS want to live their own lives, their own pathway, and forge a life that makes sense to them, not their predecessors. They rebel against the old-fashioned values that their parents lived by for so long. It aligns with the notion of university professors telling of how their students’ career aspirations have changed over a following of over 613,000 people on instagram alone… But lets rewind a little, and explore how we got here in the first place. Millennials are the largest generation in our history, they make up a significant portion of consumer trade, and soon, will make up the majority of our workforce, too. But the CEO’s of today still don’t understand what makes Gen Y tick. Millennials have grown up with technology at their fingertips, making them knowledgeable about a variety of subjects, and interconnected with a lot of people. They do not want the routine of a desk job, and will do all they can to avoid such a reality. They like their days to be varied, inspirational, and interactive. A noticeable facet to myself, and I believe to a host of other millennials, is that they also feel a stronger desire to impact on the world they live in, to change the scenery and commercial world around them, and to help others in need. the past few decades. There was once a time that grads all wanted to work for corporate multi-nationals like Deloitte, PwC, and JP Morgan. There was another time when grads aspired for the Google’s, Facebook’s, and Apple’s of the world. Now, though, the Gypset generation want to discover a new form of ‘making a living’, which actually, translated in their own minds, means utilizing their own ambitions, creativity, and motivations, to forge a pathway that means they never have to ‘work’, at least not by the definition that has been around for so many years. Gypsetters want to discover a world where they can unleash their own talent, and create a life that is organic, fun, and filled with their own creations, and imaginations. They want to ‘work’ for themselves, control their own life, and make something of it, something that will change the environment that they live within. Whether that’s selling instagram space on their instagram handle whilst they travel the world collecting millions of followers, owning their own fashion line or starting a charity foundation. a different motivation, a motivation for freedom, and a motivation to make their own dreams come true. Bella Weems co-founded Origami Owl at age 14, the business made over $250 million dollars in 2013 alone. Bella started the business when her parents made her earn money to buy her first car at age 16. She asked her parents to match her baby-sitting money, totaling $700, which she then used to start her own jewelry business. At the end of the day, generations change, people grow wiser, and evolution takes place. The age of the Gypsetter marks a change in pattern, and hopefulness, that we can all enjoy a more fulfilled life, custom built for our own enjoyment, passions, and freedom to explore. I remember once eating at a little Chinese restaurant in China town in London, where I was given a red envelope to mark the Chinese New Year. Inside there was a quote, it read; “Nothing is more difficult, and therefore more precious, than to be able to decide”.
The age of the Gypsetter marks a change in pattern, and hopefulness, that we can all enjoy a more fulfilled life, custom built for our own enjoyment, passions, and freedom to explore. And that kind of sums this article up in one. Experience builds tomorrow, today.

Lucky for fans of ABC Family’s Chasing Life, they’re familiar with Richard Brancatisano and his allconsuming dimples. The Australian actor stars as Dominic, alongside Italia Ricci in the series. There’s much to rave about when it comes to “Richie.” He’s good-looking. He helps the series’ heroine keep it together from time to time, and he plays the guitar. Not to mention, his American accent is a diamond in the rough in an age where nonAmerican actors are so easy to point out. Next, he stars in the Aussie film, Alex & Eve, playing the title role of Alex, a teacher who gets himself into an unlikely situation with he begins dating Lebanese, Muslim lawyer, Eve. It’s sure to show him in a different light than his ABC counterpart. But if you’re wondering what Richard B. is really like, outside of Alex and Dominic, we’ve got you covered.

This Is The Beginning WORDS BY DIO ANTHONY PHOTOS BY MAARTEN DE BOER
OF MY STORY ABOUT CLIPPED, A HILARIOUS NEW SHOW, THAT, LIKE THIS PIECE, STARS RYAN PINKSTON, MATT COOK, AND MIKE CASTLE, AND A TON OF OTHER TALENTS YOU’RE SURE TO FALL IN LOVE WITH. HERE, BUZZY’S VERY OWN BEN GROSSMAN, FEARLESSLY BROUGHT TO LIFE BY 27-YEAR-OLD PINKSTON, TALKS ABOUT WHAT IT WAS LIKE TO FILM THE FRESHMAN SEASON OF HIS TBS SITCOM. GEEKING OUT OVER HIS BOSSES, AND SINGLE-HANDEDLY CAUSING HIS WORST HAIRCUT EXPERIENCES.
For the boys of Clipped, getting along nicely is not something they’re allowed to do on camera. Not when in character, anyway. So when they show up to their BELLO Mag shoot in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles game for anything, I was eager to spot any glance of the chemistry the three have offscreen, play out in front of me. Perhaps, even catch sight of the bit in them that revealed itself to series creators, Max Mutchnick and David Kohan. Selfmade royals in the showrunner circle, responsible for the straight-girl, gayguy bible, and 188-episode-Comedy--Will & Grace. A show that since its final YOUNG HOLLYWOOD issue - BELLOmag.com
season nearly 10 years ago, has never been off the air. Clipped is the duo’s latest creation, and to no surprise, it’s good. The Boston set comedy, about a barber shop called Buzzy’s, and the antics of its very unique set of barbers also stars Ashley Tisdale, Orange Is The New Black’s, Lauren Lapkus, and TV veteran, George Wendt. Last but not least, the series is lucky to be introducing instant fan-favorite, Diona Reasonover to the screen. Last week, TBS aired the 4th chapter in the story of Clipped. During the episode titled “WiFi”, we witness Ben (Ryan
Pinkston) being urinated on while showering at the gym, while AJ (Mike Castle) looks on, laughing, and Mo (Matt Cook) ever so friendly, urges him to show compassion for his friend, who is unaware his new pals are laughing at him and not with him. “These are the guys that had my back. The ones who’d tell me to breath when I wasn’t feeling up to par on-set,” he admits, speaking of his cast-mates, who he hopes will be lifelong friends of his. It’s a friendship that keeps giving, carrying itself into work as much as it does out. “Particularly for Mike and I, being such great friends, makes it easier to dislike 42

each-other on screen, “ he says with a grin. “Matt, on the other hand, is an absolute angel. The guy is grateful for every day.” Sure, making friends on a TV set is no story of wonder, but having occasional dinners with your boss and being sent to a Clippers game by the other might be. For Ryan Pinkston, it’s his perfect world. “Aside from the fact that I was very happy that I had a job, the first thing that I thought of when I first heard the news of the pickup, was how incredible it would be to work with these guys. I grew up watching Will & Grace with my family,” he recalls. “I was kind of late to the game, but my mom was a huge fan of the show, particularly Megan Mullally’s character. So she encouraged me to watch it, too.” He describes his relationship with Mutchnick & Kohan at work, with interesting words. “When Dad says no about something, you have to go ask Mom and try and get her to say yes. That’s what it’s like on set,” he jokes. “They’re so completely different from each other, but they work so well with everyone, as well as one another. From day one, we’ve had nothing but 100% trust with each other. Trusting each-other’s ability to come up with what we think is going to be the best end result for each episode.” After a pause he adds, “I’d like to think that we are friends outside of the workplace,” almost geekishly. Resembling an all-too-eager date. “I’d be happy doing anything for them.” Right now he’s busy putting on a Boston accent for Kohan & Mutchnick, a challenge he welcomed, and according to most, YOUNG HOLLYWOOD issue - BELLOmag.com

has mastered. “Ben’s accent is a bit stronger than the rest of the cast. But people who watch the show should know that my character’s backstory is that his father is a New Yorker. Which explains his deep, sometimes comical hybrid accent,” he explains. “Us boys, Me, Matt, and Mike, I’d say we have variations of the Boston accent, Matt and myself being the most charactery.”
Prior to shooting the season, Pinkston worked with a Dialect coach to perfect Ben’s voice. “The most difficult part of this entire process for me has been getting the accent down,” he confesses. “You think, as an actor, you’ll be [good] to go over every word in the script, down to the tee. But on a sitcom, that’s not the case. At any given take, you can be given an entire monologue you’ve never read prior to that

“I’m nowhere near as blatantly rude as Ben is. I don’t think anyone is. Personally, I’ve found it easier to play someone so different than me. I think it makes it more comfortable to dive into. The character of Ben is so ridiculous that you have to just go for it.”
convince my mom to let me do it, and when she wouldn’t, I dyed it with Lemon Spray, and sun-tipped it myself. Until she finally came around [and] let me dye it for real. At the time, I loved it, but looking back I feel like an idiot.” Though I can’t help but feel like this childhood memory reads like a storyline straight out of Ben Grossman’s past, his next statement wipes clean the blur between the two; “Telling everyone what to do is what Ben’s good at. That’s not me,” he laughs. “I’m the guy who grabs his friend’s clippers and gives himself a trim that leaves him looking like an absolute Viking, only to regret it the next day. That actually happened.”
Probably the biggest contrast to his Boston equal is his sense of humor (Yes, he’s the kid from Punk’d! and Soul Plane, too!) At the height of NYSNC-madness, Pinkston took it upon himself to bleach the tips of his hair. “I had to

moment, and you have to jump right into it, with little to no preparation.” Some may say that Pinkson, who grew up in Maryland, just six hours from the Boston area, wears parts of Ben in his daily life, since his character’s accent and arrogant demeanor seem both comical and natural. If you ask him, it’s the other way around.

Go Charlie! Is ‘Aquarius’ Glamourizing Manson? BY DIO ANTHONY @Diodiehard
On May 28th, NBC premiered its very groovy Manson focused series Aquarius, roughly two months shy of the anniversary of the infamous Tate-Labianca murders that put a bloody halt to the generation of love— committed by Manson’s lost, juvenile minions. Charles Manson, Susan Atkins, Patricia Krenwinkel, Leslie Van-Houten, and Tex Watson were all prosecuted successfully by Los Angeles attorney, Vincent Bugliosi. Bugliosi passed this past June at the age of 80. Since the murders and subsequent trials, Manson and CO. have been living out the rest of their days in prison for the gruesome, overkill deaths of Actress Sharon Tate, her unborn child and six other individuals. That is, all but one— Susan Atkins died in prison in 2009, from terminal brain cancer, after being repeatedly denied a “compassionate release” from her California prison, even after being given just six months to live. If you lived through the dark REAL CHARLES MANSON

end of the 1960s, the denial of such a minor gesture may seem completely appropriate. Why release a woman, who giggled and skipped her way into court, day in and day out? Inside the courtroom, Atkins yo-yo’d between the silent treatment, randomly shouting, showing zero remorse, borderline consciousness, and an overall, absolute disregard for descent behavior in the presence of grieving families and the lawyers determined to give them possible closure by putting away those responsible for the deaths of their loved-ones. Aquarius’ version of Atkins isn’t a pretty one, but neither was Akins’ soul at the time of the killings. Her character seems to be a minor player so far, as has Krenwinkel’s “Katie,” taking the backseat to Gethin Anthony’s riddle-talking, charismatic Manson. He’s sexy and inviting, and easy on the eyes, for the string of girls surrounding him, and the millions watching at home. It’s hard picturing Anthony’s version of the brainwashing mastermind ordering “death to pigs.” Instead we see him free a man of his homosexuality, by allowing him to live his truth beside him. Through him. Engaging in a homosexual relationship, a trait unknown to the masses as one belonging to the convicted killer. For NBC, this little part of Charles Manson redeems him, gives him a depth other depictions of the famous man have lacked. That isn’t to say the series’ Charlie is all sugar and no spice. The spice is definitely there. In the second episode of the 13-episode first season, titled “The Hunter Gets captured by the Game,” we witness Charlie stab a shop owner’s eyes out, after catching Emma (our star Manson girl) shoplifting a piece of clothing. It was brutal and senseless.
NBC AQUARIUS
An insensible death, committed at random. Harsh? Absolutely. Violent? Completely. Or the pilot, where a rape scene is cut short by the flashing lights of a car in a parking lot. He stops himself, (Manson) blurting out “That was a buzz-kill,” under his breath. It’s comedic, loosening up a scene that could have very well been dark, bloody and simply hard to watch. It only takes a handful of episodes when Anthony’s Manson is reunited with his quasi-lover “Ken,” played fearlessly by Brian F. O’Byrne, and just like that, the killer-to-be is back in American’s good-graces. He seems to save Ken from the life he has built but refuses to be apart of—unwillinglly of course. Is it possible that the Charles Manson TV Character is incapable of too much evil at once? That may be the case for Aquarius. Charlie’s villainous and wicked ways live deep inside him, we’ll just have to wait and see exactly how far this Version of Charles Manson will go. And with a second season on its way, it’s clear America wants to know too. July 2015 - BELLO
