INTRO O u r Young Hollywood editor Dio Anthony has done it again. We’re calling it the “New School” issue and its cover story features the young phenomenon Ki Hong Lee of Maze Runner and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. We’re enamored with Lee’s youthful energy and focus on the set of our exclusive photo shoot, and we think you will be too. Whether you are back to school or back to work, a reenergizing vibe is returning to cities across the country. Autumn is coming in strong with endless weekend parties, adventurous weeknight excursions, and for us here in Los Angeles it also means the arrival of Indian summer. A recent California heatwave is giving way to crisp night air and lingering warm days, a perfect setting as I am writing this letter and chatting with Dio about how much we loved working on this issue, and what we should do for upcoming issues. As this issue is all about Young Hollywood and the emerging talent of studious young artists and aspiring actors, we would love to hear from our readers about favorite fresh faces and factoids. Hit us up @BELLOmag! The transitional fall season is also the perfect time to announce that our BELLO mag family is ever growing, with the addition of our fall intern program based here in LA. Meanwhile, BELLO editors and contributors continue to hold down the fort with peerless content coming out of the cultural hotspots of London, San Francisco, New York, and Miami. We hope you love this “New School” issue as much as we enjoyed making it. Ciao, Aleksandar Tomovic Editor In Chief

McQUEEN REVIEW BY DIO ANTHONY
ON MARCH 17TH, 1969 LEE ALEXANDER MCQUEEN CAME INTO THE WORLD. HE WAS TO BE KNOWN TO THE MASSES AS ALEXANDER MCQUEEN. ON FEBRUARY 11TH, 2011 HE LEFT THIS WORLD. MOURNED BY THOUSANDS, IF NOT MILLIONS, OF ADORING FANS FOR HIS CONTRIBUTIONS TO FASHION, CULTURE AND THE ZEITGEIST. Author Andrew Wilson has done a seamless job at constructing a timeline of the late designer’s life, one that is both intimate and noticeably unbiased. He presents McQueen as a raw human being using tidbits and interviews from those closest to him. His biography Blood Beneath The Skin is, in a word, haunting. The involvement of the the humble McQueen family shines through in this 384-page profile that follows the great designer’s YOUNG HOLLYWOOD issue - BELLOmag.com
struggles as a child and onto the battlefield that was the fashion world for him, all the way though his descent into an inexorable incompleteness that led to his untimely demise at his own hands. The biographical masterpiece will introduce you to many areas of McQueen’s life unknown to his fans before this publication. The introduction to the colorful cast members that
surroundeded him in life is by far one of the most intriguing parts of the book. From McQueen’s muses, his string of relationships, and his undying love and bond for his mother and older sister, Blood Beneath The Skin is the perfect way to dive into the inspiring world of the British fashion genius. FOR MONTHS, BILLBOARDS OF RYAN MURPHY’S SCREAM QUEENS HAVE BEEN PLACED JUST ABOUT ANYWHERE, FROM LOS ANGELES TO NEW YORK CITY. YOU’VE MOST LIKELY SEEN IT ON THE SIDE OF A BUS, INSIDE THE A SUBWAY CAR, ABOVE SUNSET BOULEVARD’S FAMED CHATEAU MARMONT, ON LOLLIPOP WRAPPERS, AND PERHAPS MOST RECENTLY--ON AN ALTERNATING DIGITAL BILLBOARD.
The brilliant ad campaign for the television series features a few of its stars posing comedically and seductively, but most of all, nonchalantly with bloodied hands. They’re captivating, fun, sexy, and resemble the humor of 1999’s Jawbreaker, which told the story of a group of teenage girls who accidentally kill their best friend during a birthday prank. Scream Queens is sure to be on the gory side of things, judging by its ad campaign and multiple TV spots and teasers. In fact, it could single-handedly herald the arrival of a new genre in television. With its list of stars gracing the callsheet, not to mention its creator’s track record in the realm of horror, it’s quite hard not to be excited. Aiming to bring a whole new meaning to “highlyanticipated”, the dark comedy will introduce a couple of new faces, while also bringing back to the small screen some Murphy favorites in the form of Lea Michelle and Emma Roberts. Among those faces in the series premiere you can expect to see 23-year-old Lucien Laviscount, which like his character on the show, is an ambitious lad hailing from the UK. Also like Laviscount, the character has quite the memorable name: Earl Grey. “Earl is a mysterious kid, who comes to
11
Wallace University and becomes a part of a fraternity,” explains Laviscount. According to searchable online factoids and what can be gleaned from a slew of promotional materials, season one of Scream Queens will follow a fictitious Kappa Kappa Tau sorority after the 20th-anniversary of a student’s death results in the reemergence of the “Red Devil”, a masked serial killer trawling the university for new prey. Laviscount assures us the horror is real both on paper and off. “I like to refer to the vibe of the show as “bubblegum with blood,” he jokes. “You think everything’s going great, everyone’s laughing because it’s all silly and crazy and then out of nowhere--bam! the ax comes out.” One of the first teasers to be released featured pop-star Ariana Grande in what seemed to be her character’s last moments alive. Though the clip was short, the fear seemed real. “When you’re on set, it really does feel like you’re walking into a horror movie,” says the on-screen member of The Dollar Scholar fraternity. “There’s not much acting needed. Not to mention, the special effects and props around set... It gets really realistic. So you’re sitting there in the midst of all this. It’s

real sweat that you see coming off of us.” Reminiscent of Murphy’s Glee, and true to its collegiate setting, Scream Queens’ cast has been plucked straight out of Young Hollywood’s most desirable list. When presented with this reality and the fact that real-life Hollywood scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis joins in on the bloody fun, it’s not surprising that the show has picked up so much buzz and momentum even before its series premiere. Laviscount admits that even though the majority of the cast is much younger, the shock factor of Curtis’ involvement is still impactful. “I think no matter what age, from the younger cast members to the older ones, when Jamie Lee [Curtis] is on set, we’re all just fascinated by that aspect alone.” 13
He also admits to being just as excited about the show’s arrival on September 22nd as the rest of us. “New Orleans, where we film--it’s a heavy, buzzing town and so we’re finding out things at the same pace as everyone else,” he says. “One moment we’ll be on set, and everyone retreats back to their trailers and rooms and a half an hour later, someone’s coming out like ‘Did you see this?’ [or] ‘Have you seen that?’ The energy’s been really good and positive.” And just like everyone else, Laviscont isn’t clued-in on the identity of the killer. “Ryan [Murphy] is the only person that knows! So every time a script comes out, we’re so excited because we don’t know who’s going to die. I think it keeps it interesting,” he confesses. However, that hasn’t stopped him from coming up with his own idea as to who’s behind the Red Devil mask. “I’m going to go
with Jamie Lee! It’s gotta be Jamie Lee, that’s it.” In the spirit of confession, Laviscont also makes another revelation: he’s quite the scaredy cat. “I’m a jumpy person. So when I hear a loud noise, even on set, I’m off right away. Anything that jumps out at me, I’m a bit of a frightened mess. I can hold it down, but it scares me,” he says, laughing. “So, when it comes to the topic of scary movies, I only go as far as...Well...Scary Movie. Does that count?” he gamely asks. Good question. Another terrific question might be, whom do you think dons the Red Devil mask? Tune into the two-hour premiere of Scream Queens on SEPTEMBER 22ND, 9PM ON FOX. September 2015 - BELLO

Girl YOUNG HOLLYWOOD
Orange County
Tara Lynne Barr Is Ready for the Big Time BY DIO ANTHONY
TARA LYNNE BARR GREW UP JUST OUTSIDE OF LOS ANGELES IN NEARBY ORANGE COUNTY, CALIFORNIA. BUT WITH THE SPLASH SHE’S MADE IN HOLLYWOOD THIS YEAR AND THE MARK SHE’S SURE TO LEAVE COME 2016, THE ACTRESS SEEMS LIKE A TINSELTOWN NATIVE FROM THE GET-GO. EVEN AT THE TENDER AGE OF 21, SHE’S TAKEN ON DIFFICULT ROLES--FROM A LOST MANSON GIRL IN THIS SUMMER’S PSYCHEDELIC AQUARIUS TO AN EMBATTLED TEENAGER AMIDST HER PARENTS’ UGLY SEPARATION IN THE UPCOMING HULU ORIGINAL SERIES CASUAL. WE SAT DOWN TO GET TO KNOW THE VERY WELL-SPOKEN BARR JUST AS SHE HITCHES HER STAR TO THE YOUNG HOLLYWOOD BANDWAGON.
BELLO mag: Tell us a little bit about your character Laura on Casual and what it was like working with Jason Reitman. Tara Lynne Barr: My character is a dry, sardonic teenage girl dealing with her parents’ divorce. She and her mom go to live with her uncle when the split starts to get really ugly and Laura pretty much acts as the adult in the family. Jason and our creator (Zander Lehmann) described her to me as always being the smartest person in the room, which I love. It’s always nice to play a character that’s way smarter than yourself. When I initially came on board, though, I was pretty nervous. I’ve seen Juno and Up in the 25

Air more times than I’d like to admit, so of course I was starstruck by Jason [Reitman] and anxious to please. But once we all got on set, he had such a clear vision of what he wanted that it was pretty effortless. And he’s clearly so good at what he does that it drives you to do good work in return. BM: Did you know much about Patricia Krenwinkel when being cast as Katie on Aquarius? What are your thoughts on The Manson girls? TLB: I had actually done quite a bit of research on Patricia [Krenwinkel] and the Manson murders before I got the job on Aquarius. I read Helter Skelter in high school and, coincidentally, reread it just a few weeks before I got the audition for the show. The murders were, of course, heinous but what’s so striking is how young these girls were when they committed the crimes. Their lives were just beginning, which is tragic. They put their trust in this man because he told them everything a girl wants to hear at that age: ‘you’re beautiful, you’re strong, you have value, you can change the world’. What they did was unforgivable, but in a way, they were victims of Manson too. BM: You were directed by Rose McGowan in the short film Dawn. What was that like, working with her as a director?
TLB: It was a dream! Although, I was much more familiar with her films than her TV work, going into it. She’s known for doing some really cool, dark, unusual projects so I was really looking forward to seeing what her touch would bring to the film. And of course, she came in with so much knowledge of the time period and so many thoughtful ideas about the piece that I knew we were going to create something special. And she’s an actor on top of it all, so when it came to the darker elements she was really empathetic to our needs on set. BM: Any thoughts on her own choice to quit acting and focus on work behind the camera? TLB: I say, whatever revs her engine! She’s smart as hell and more than equipped for the job. I’m really excited to see what she’ll do next on the directing/ producing side. I’ll be the first in line to buy a ticket.
BM: This September, our Young Hollywood issue has a New School theme. Do you have any great, or notso-great memories on your first day of school? TLB: My first day of high school comes to mind! I had my little outfit picked out and all my supplies arranged perfectly, I was so ready. But as soon as my mom dropped me off, my palms started to sweat and my knees started to buckle, then I saw a girl I knew from middle school walking next to me. She was one of those stunning, popular, way-toocool-for-me types. But that morning we made a bee line for each other and commiserated and walked each other to class. That morning, it didn’t matter what social group we allied with, we were all just scared kids. BM: Better yet, on your first day working on a big project, what do you remember? What sticks out to you when you think back on those experiences? TLB: The same feeling applies to the first day on set, every time. In my experience, no matter how many fragile or inflated egos you pile in a room together, the first day is always intimidating. Whether you’re an actor or a director or a grip, we all just want to do a good job and create the best product we possibly can.

Teenage Nation
Michael J. Willett Has An Army of Teenage Fans BY GLENN GARNER
ANY TEENAGER IN AMERICA WITH THE SLIGHTEST GRASP FOR POP CULTURE IS FAMILIAR WITH HIS NAME AND THE WINNING SMILE THAT GOES ALONG WITH IT. IT’S HARD TO MISS SUCH A TALENT WHEN HIS MAGNETIC CHARM SETS THE TONE FOR MTV’S FAKING IT, MAKING YET ANOTHER TEEN SERIES FROM THE NETWORK’S WEEKLY LINEUP TRULY REVOLUTIONARY. Michael J. Willett won us over when he played Tanner, the titular “gay best friend” character in the 2013 film, G.B.F. Directed by Darren Stein (Jawbreaker) and written by George Northy (Faking It), the heartwarming coming-of-age comedy set the pace for the young actor’s career and established his place in the industry, earning him a legion of adoring fans. That’s because his current role as Shane in Faking It has given him the platform to portray an emotional range all too real for millennials. With a new batch of episodes, Willett hints at a more vulnerable side to the confident cool guy that his youthful audience has quickly grown to love. Although his outgoing portrayal of Shane is a departure from the stereotypical closeted supporting gay character of the 90’s, the actor’s own high school experience was more introverted. Having shed the awkward pre-pubescent phase we all experience, this young star has grown into his own sense of style that parallels his character’s sense of confidence. With new music to be released next year and a Lifetime movie debuting, we sat down with Willett to get a glimpse at his blossoming career.
27
BELLO mag: Faking It just kicked off the second half of its second season. Did you expect it to gain such a huge following? Michael J. Willett: You always hope it does well. I guess I had a feeling that people were going to connect with it but I didn’t realize that it was gonna be on such a large scale. There are people who really feel like they’re experiencing what our characters are experiencing and that’s really cool because it’s a new generation of people and I feel like they’re experiencing things that maybe other generations haven’t. But they’re still relatable stories. BELLO mag: Your character has a new love interest that developed earlier in season two. What can you tell me about what’s to come with Duke and Shane? MJW: Well in the last ten episodes, we ended with Shane outing Duke publicly, and we know that he was the one that leaked the information. And while Shane got what he wanted which was Duke, he didn’t want it necessarily in this way. There’s a lot of guilt and it’s almost impossible for them to have a healthy relationship. So it’s ultimately doomed but [laughs] it’s going to be worth exploring because it’s an interesting topic.
BM: Although your character is gay, he’s not the typical closeted depiction of a gay teenager you see in too many shows and movies. He’s actually pretty popular. Did you have any issues when you were in high school as far as being accepted or were you kind of the same confident character you play on the show? MJW: No, this is definitely a fantasy version of how I would like to be. There’s a lot of wish fulfillment in Shane. I was much more introverted. I mostly just kept to myself… In terms of being out, everybody knew that I was gay but it was not something that I fully accepted yet. You know, it’s private. I’m a private person. There are certain things that I want to keep sacred and I don’t think that there’s anything wrong with that. BM: How does it feel to be such a big part of this trend of LGBT characters and storylines becoming mainstream? MJW: I have mixed feelings about it. I don’t want it to necessarily be a trend. You know, I want us to be fully integrated into society, and I don’t see it as a luxury necessarily while I’m proud of it. I see this as how it should be. There should be gay characters because gay people exist, not because it’s special treatment.

FOR THOSE PAYING ATTENTION-AND EVEN FOR THOSE WHO AREN’T--THE TEENAGE WEREWOLVES ON MTV’S HIT SERIES JUST KEEP GETTING MORE AND MORE INTERESTING. CODY SAINTGNUE’S CHARACTER BRETT TALBOT IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE. ALTHOUGH, THE ACTOR’S REAL LIFE STORY ISN’T ONE RIDDLED WITH SUPERNATURAL FORCES, IT’S CERTAINLY A UNIQUE ONE.
Saintgnue was born in Dayton, Ohio and put into foster care at a young age, then adopted. He’s overcome obstacles and landed himself the prestigious label of a Hollywood heartthrob. Now with a solid role on the MTV 1980s spinoff, the 22-year-old remembers his first days in the business. Notably, his debut role in 2009 on TNT’s Southland evoked emotions as he recalls that “I cried when I booked that, as it was the job that made me SAG,” he recalls. “Now thinking back, I think of how I’ve discovered myself since then. My artistry, and craft. Not to mention, the life lessons I’ve had.” On the surface, playing a werewolf may not teach a lot of life lessons. But in the realm of great stories to tell, there’s plenty. “Glowing eyes are pretty fun I must say. But also being shot in the back with an arrow--and to live--is sweet,” he jokes. On the other hand, the Ohio native has to deal with the “tedious” duty of having his many tattoos covered up for the show, in which he plays a high-school aged character. It doesn’t diminish the meanings behind his body art, which he proudly showcases on his Instagram account, which is currently boasting 207,000 followers. “The roses on my chest are for my adoptive mother, Brenda Rose. blossomed into three different stages, to show where we started, to where we’ve come,” he explains. “The Cherokee feathers are for my biological dad, Rick Saintgnue.” Of course, Saintgnue’s tattoos wouldn’t look as they do without an amazing frame to accompany it. The actor attributes his physique, of which his fans no doubt enjoy, to his trainer and not his natural athleticism. “I love training with my trainer (@ConfusedMuscles) because he gives me different types of workouts. A lot of bar work, using my own weight to lift, with few actual weights,” he says. Of course every good heartthrob is a mixture of both brains, body, and endless charm--which Saintgnue so clearly possesses. When he’s not reading lines while the Teen Wolf makeup department covers up his tattoos, he serves as Awareness Director for Brat Pack 11, an organization helping “military brats” achieve their dreams while going through the complications they often struggle with. In that role, Saintgnue helps founder Kenzie Hall with YOUNG HOLLYWOOD issue - BELLOmag.com

everything from branding to meetings. For this former foster kid, it’s not at all outside of character. He’s known for his positive outlook on life and desire to help others. How is he able to maintain such positivity at such a formative age? “I find a way to look at every moment in life as a blessing,” he says. “You want as many moments in life as possible. The bad ones make you wiser, stronger, and more powerful. The good moments bring smiles, joy, and passion. And of course happiness. When you mix that together, you’re enjoying every second of life.” At the end of the day, athough he’s breaking hearts left and right on screen, gaining more admirers by the episode, this heartthrob has a real grasp on humility.”I remember a week after my first day of school, I had my FIRST EVER crush. I was six years old and I gave this girl some flowers. After I gave her the flowers, she threw them in the trash, and made fun of me for wearing a Tigger sweatshirt, and the whole class laughed at me! ALEX KING IS A PHOTOGRAPHER BASED IN LOS ANGELES WHO RECENTLY HAS BEEN CREATING WORK ON HIS TRAVELS FROM AUSTRALIA AND ACROSS AMERICA. GIVING UP THE DIGITAL CAMERA HAS NEWLY OPENED UP HIS WORK, USING UNIQUE FILMS AND DOING LOTS OF IN-CAMERA DOUBLE EXPOSURES BLENDING NATURE, BEAUTIFUL HUMAN FORMS AND HIS LOVE OF OLD CARS. HE DESCRIBES HIS VISION AS BOTH “RETRO AND PSYCHEDELICALLY FRESH.” BESIDES HIS ONLINE FOLLOWING, ALEX HAS HAD SHOWS AT SOHO HOUSE AND VOILA GALLERY IN LOS ANGELES. “I shot over 5,000 photos on film last year alone, and this year it will be more. Those colors are worth every penny,” he admits. “I plan on doing a lot more larger scale prints to hang in rooms, things like Instagram have really warped our view of photography and getting back to this massive scale set my work apart. You see composition, detail, color and life.” King feels a connection to nature that can instantly be seen in his work.“My YOUNG HOLLYWOOD issue - BELLOmag.com
work has a lot to do with nature, and the importance of man being present in her. Our culture doesn’t emphasize Mother Earth as much as buying a new iPhone, so I really try to bring [the] viewer into the peace that the most lush landscapes will do,” he explains. “The tones and color of film accentuate that ease. If that includes putting a naked guy looking into the distance, well so be it. Nobody complains with a great butt--except Facebook,” he
jokes. “In seriousness, this interplay has been going on in art for millennia but people act like it’s radical for people to be nude. Nevertheless, I’ve done some fashion work with models and such, but my style is so different than lots of commercial work here in LA. It takes a certain client to get it, because we live in the world of overglossed images.” Follow Alex King’s work via his instagram account at @apexalex 44

I come from a well off family in Seattle who like you (it seems from the show, blog, social, etc) was raised with manners, respect, as well as the thought that new money talks, wealth whispers. I was in a relationship for about nine months and afterwards realized how much I was taken advantage of. Things that are a part of my normal family life; nice seats at sports games, trips, nice dinners, were quickly a part of this ex-boyfriend’s life. When I look back now I am so hurt that he took advantage of myself, my family, and our status. It was surely a learning experience and I know now that I cannot and will not date a loser user! Did I mention he was 30? Five years my senior, and dressed like a tampon for Halloween. What was I thinking? My question is; for someone who comes from wealth how do you guard yourself and your family but also involve people in your life? I am extremely hesitant now to get into a relationship with someone and invite them to family homes and trips. However, knowing that if it is the right person, then they will not be using me for as a tool of gaining status or experiences. I am sure that you and possibly your friends have experienced something like this living in Beverly Hills. How do I guard myself? -Sarah Hi Sarah. Listen, relationships are hard enough as it is, but to have to add another layer of paranoia on top of everything doesn’t sound like fun. I totally understand where you’re coming from, in terms of wanting to protect yourself and your family from people who might take advantage of you. My best advice would be to just trust your instincts as much as possible. It is definitely possible to meet a great guy who loves you for you and doesn’t want to just use you for your sports seats. It’s important to remain open-minded and trusting, even though you were let down by said ex-boyfriend. Chalk it up to a relationship that didn’t work out, and be confident that somebody great will come into your life very shortly! Good luck.

Hello Morgan, I am a single 27-year-old female. I have tried different dating websites . My dates usually don’t work out, or the guys end up being very weird. I feel bummed because I thought I would meet someone by now. I see on Facebook that my friends are either married or in relationships. They get all the usual praisy comments. In return, I feel depressed due to the fact that I am single and do not have a partner. I get stressed and unhappy and at times just want to speak to a guy, only to realize I don’t have one to speak to. I have very little friends. How do I stay positive and continue to date? I don’t feel loved. My mom often comments that if the dates don’t work out, why keep trying? -Jessica Hi Jessica! Obviously this is something that many young women struggle with. Everyone sees themselves at a certain place in their life at a certain age and it doesn’t always quite work out the way we envisioned. I can totally relate to being a 27-year old girl and I was definitely single through most of my 20s while many of my girlfriends were in serious relationships. It’s never easy to be the single one, or to feel lonely, but the reality, unfortunately, is that you have absolutely no control over your destiny or what the universe has in store for you. The best thing you can do is throw yourself into activities and hobbies that make you better and happier. Happy people attract other happy people and relationships will naturally begin to blossom for you. Focus more on your wellbeing versus trying to find somebody to complete you. This is the best advice I can give you. And don’t worry about mom, mothers are there to do the worrying for us. Hope this helps and good luck.
Hi Morgan! As a fellow large breasted gal I have a bra question! What kind of backless bra do you wear? Stickies just don’t seem to stay on during the heat! - Danielle Bras can be really tricky for large-breasted ladies. It’s really important to be fitted appropriately so you know your correct bra size. Unfortunately, when you’re dealing with a large chest, and your boobs are real, gravity is the one winning that argument. I personally just have decided to give up the good fight and go with straps. Work another angle you have going for you and keep the boobies up high where they belong!

THE PHOTOGENIC KI HONG LEE FIRST ROSE TO FAME LAST YEAR THANKS TO THE CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED TRILOGY, MAZE RUNNER, PLAYING THE LOYAL YET SARCASTIC GLADER AND PRESTIGIOUS KEEPER OF THE RUNNERS, MINHO. PROVING HE CAN TURN HIS HAND TO ANYTHING, LEE ALSO PLAYS DONG NGUYEN, IN THE HIT NETFLIX ORIGINAL COMEDY UNBREAKABLE KIMMY SCHMIDT, CREATED BY THE DYNAMIC DUO ROBERT CARLOCK AND TINA FEY. Even with his busy schedule, our cover guy for Young Hollywood had time to catch up with BELLO mag about his current acting projects and what it’s really like to be on set with the Maze Runner cast. BELLO mag: So you’re in the middle of promoting the second installment of the Maze Runner franchise, how did you enjoy your trip to London? Ki Hong Lee: London was great! I was able to try some of the local fare such as pie n’ mash with liquor, and fish and chips. [I] love trying the local food whenever I’m traveling! BM: Aside from the London event of Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, what else did you get up to in London? KHL: It’s always fun to hang with my cast mates outside of filming. A lot more of us were in London promoting the film this time around so we spent some time hanging out after press was over for the day. We can be in the Maze, the Scorch, or be in someone’s hotel room - we have fun wherever we are. BM: Do you enjoy being on the red carpet and going to premieres and press events?
humour, very British I think! Do you relate to him at all?
actors join our film. I feel like they’ve been welcome additions to our family.
KHL: My only relation might be the hair. I’ve kind of adopted his hairstyle into my life. Minho is definitely more brave, stronger, faster and cooler than I am.
BM: Aside from Maze Runner, you also appear in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, which also has a stellar cast! Which actors most inspired you?
BM: There is such a great cast on Maze Runner, are you close to anyone in particular?
KHL: They are all pretty remarkable. It’s so fun being able to act along side Ellie Kemper, Tituss Burgess, Carol Kane, and Jane Krakowski. It’s really hard to say which one actor I was inspired by, because they all inspire me. I have to pinch myself every time I am on set because I still can’t believe I get to act in this amazing show.
KHL: We all get along pretty well. It’s surprising because we are all extremely different. But I think what unites us is our love for acting and this movie. We care deeply about this movie, our fans, and our group. We all push each other to do the best job possible every day. BM: The premise of the film is quite dark with the characters living in a dystopian society. In between takes, do you and the cast try to lighten up the atmosphere on set? KHL: Yes, we are constantly cracking jokes and laughing. But I think that stems from the fact that we get along so well and we genuinely enjoy each other’s company. BM: Who is the biggest prankster?
KHL: It’s always fun interacting with fans. In Korea, the fans were so loving and supportive. Fans would literally give us gifts on the carpet and even waited for our arrival at the airport at 4 [o’clock] in the morning. We’ve got some artistically talented and dedicated fans.
KHL: I’ve received this question a lot, and quite honestly we do not have pranksters. Only “cranks”...
BM: I love your character Minho! He has a very dry and sarcastic sense of
KHL: Nathalie [Emmanuel] is great! We’ve definitely had some amazing

BM: You have some new cast members for this film, Nathalie Emmanuel from Game of Thrones being one of them. How was it working alongside her?
BM: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is a drastic change in genre from Maze Runner. Do you have a preference between comedy and drama? KHL: I prefer to work. I really don’t take work for granted because, especially in this business, you never know when your next paycheck is going to arrive. In terms of which genre - I enjoy both. Comedy tends to be more fun just because it’s a comedy. But I love working in drama and getting down and dirty as well! BM: Can you tell us a little bit about your character, Dong Nguyen? KHL: Dong Nguyen is a recent immigrant to America [who] has more in common with Kimmy--a woman who has lived in an underground bunker her entire life--than anyone else. He also is romantically attached to Kimmy until the end of the first season, where their relationship gets in a little predicament. He’s a joy to play especially because the writing on the show is so good. September 2015 - BELLO

Bello Blurb with KIRBY BLISS BLANTON ONE OF THE FRESHEST FACES OF YOUNG HOLLYWOOD, KIRBY BLISS BLANTON WILL GRACE THE BIG SCREEN IN ELI ROTH’S HOTLY ANTICIPATED THRILLER, THE GREEN INFERNO, IN THEATERS SEPT. 25TH. WE SAT DOWN WITH BLANTON TO CHAT ABOUT SOME OF HER FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT HORROR FILMS, AND THE FINE ART OF BEING SCARED. BELLO mag: Last time you scared someone... How did you do it? Kirby Bliss Blanton: I always try to freak my mom out. Just shock her, somehow. If we are leaving the country, I always tell her I forgot my passport at home to watch her panic. She has started to catch on though. BM: Are you afraid to fly? Any crazy traveling experiences? KBB: Not really. I almost enjoy traveling now. The flight crash scene we filmed in The Green Inferno was pretty intense, it had me paranoid about flying for a bit afterwards. BM: Favorite horror character? KBB: That is so tough. I love all the iconic classics. Michael Myers and Freddy Krueger, but I am going to have to go with Hannibal Lecter. Sir Anthony Hopkins was real creepy. BM: Favorite horror film? KBB: There are so many. I love the Hostel series and everything Eli [Roth] does... since long before I got to meet and work with him. I liked Cabin in the Woods actually, and more recently, The Following. BM: Last time you were scared... What happened?

KBB: I think the last few times I’ve been scared actually all happened in Peru, on or off set of The Green Inferno. I had never been that far away from home for that long or worked in a mostly Spanishspeaking environment. It was all very intimidating. Although I must say going to the hospital (a tiny hole in the wall) in a small town in Peru for my infected bug bites tops it all. Overall, it was a great experience. I’m grateful I got to challange myself in life and work as an actor...[it was] life changing. September 2015 - BELLO
