Letter from the Editor For Bello Mag’s November 2015 Entertainment cover, I introduce you Romulo Neto. You’re welcome! Tall, and tan, and young and lovely… this boy from Ipanema is making his way into American soil. Brazilian from head to toe and with a warm, vibrant heart to prove it, Romulo arrives to set with the happiest smile on his face, “I’m so happy to be here!” Romulo did his thing, and I was just there to capture it all. The man has no bad angles! Believe me. Choosing the images for this cover story was no easy task. As he so well put it, “We make a great team!” Bello Mag readers, you are in for a treat! I’ve been away from home for 17 years. When I say it out loud, it seems crazy to me. Next year, I’ll have lived in the US as long as I have lived in Brazil!!! I cannot even grasp that fact! - Soap Operas are HUGE in my country! Think of Brazilian Soap Operas as you would of American Movies and TV Shows (yup! that big!). And me (as a good little Brazilian that I am), I’m obsessed with them! They are like 6 to 8 month long movies/tv shows. So addictive, I even got my husband hooked on them a few times! That’s how Romulo (following his late dad’s footsteps) became known. His lively personality embodies characters you just can’t help but be intrigued by, hate, and then fall in love with… because you just can’t help it! He’s that good! Well, I am SURE you’ll really enjoy getting to know our cover boy better, so I’ll just leave you to it. Have fun! Beijos, ~A Amanda Peixoto-Elkins, Creative Director, South America/Photographer

INTRO Although we are based in the US of A, we recognize and are extremely grateful to have connected to our readers in other parts of the world. This month, we show our appreciation to all our Brazilian fans and present a special cover just for you... Made in Rio, and known throughout the entire country, Romulo Neto is clearing a path and making his way through Brazil and into the hearts of the rest of the world via Bello mag. In a hot editorial shot in DTLA by Bello mag’s very own Brazilian-born Creative Director, Latin America and celebrity photographer, Amanda Peixoto-Elkins, Neto shows us that Brazilians are still too sexy for their own good. We also have the handsome Wes Chatham promoting his new role, playing Castor in Mockingjay, Part 2. Shot at the Level in downtown Los Angeles by fashion photographer, Trever Hoehne and styled by our Fashion Director and celebrity stylist, Warren Alfie Baker, Chatham gives us just the right sporty fashion story we need to see this fall. We also give you the multi-talented and handsome AJ Buckley. Coming off a huge line of films and great television, Buckley turns from playing his usual bad-ass to playing sweet Nash, the whimsical T-rex in Disney Pixar’s The Good Dinosuar set to release the day after Thanksgiving. And to break up our not-so-planned male dominated issue, we give you the stunning and extremely sweet, Inbar Lavi in a sexy shoot shot in the Hollywood Hills by fashion photographer Ted Sun and celebrity stylist Bruno Lima. We are officially deep into fall. And where the rest of the world is enjoying what true fall brings, not only do we share the same fans and readers, but Los Angeles and Brazil will be sharing the same sunshine too. Enjoy! Always, Leslie Alejandro, Executive Director

WHEN I THINK OF TRAVEL, I THINK OF EXPLORATION, CULTURE, PEOPLE, HAPPINESS, FREEDOM, AND ADVENTURE – THE LIST IS EXPANSIVE. IT CAN OPEN A DOOR TO SUCH EXUBERANCE THAT PEOPLE WANT MORE AND MORE OF IT, THERE ARE LITTLE OTHER THINGS IN LIFE THAT CAN OFFER SUCH PARALLELS’ AND PERSPECTIVES. TRAVEL OPENS UP A NEW RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN YOU AND THE WORLD THAT NEVER HAS TO END, WILL ALWAYS BE THERE FOR YOU AND OFFERS YOU AN EVER-CHANGING PERSPECTIVE ON LIFE AS WE LIVE IT TODAY. Having a travel companion makes the journey all the more special – enjoying special moments that you will never forget together, connecting on a level that surpasses most, if not all other things life has to offer – love.
Having a travel luggage brand that infuses all these notions of happiness, love and relationships all with an added French flair, is a must for any indulgent human being. The brand new CHATELET accompanied me on my
recent trip to the W Hotel Barcelona – a perfect match, then, for innovation, style and unequivical luxury that could not go a miss. Carrying with me over 65 years of French heritage, a dynamic and personable friend that never faultered and had the endless ability to make you feel special – even when waiting for your luggage at the carousel, a part of the travelling experience that endangers the happiest of human spirits. With effortless elegance and functionality, the CHATELET carried me to my room with ease and sensisibilty – with unquestionable confidence shining from the deep rooted values Delsey Luggage brings with it. What was particluarly impressive about the embodiement of this new luggage set was how well Delsey have thought about us as people and the world we now live in, the practicality of the strongest zip ever made, the exclusive patented braking system and the Hinomoto wheels design making sure your luggage is a constant stream of support with unparelled usercomfort which, quite frankly, puts you in pure paradise when travelling even the shortest of distances.

Adele Vs. Taylor Swift: What’s Really Missing From This Debate BY HIKO MITSUZUKA (@TheFirstEcho)
WHEN ADELE PREMIERED HER SINGLE AND VIDEO FOR “HELLO,” THE LEAD TRACK FROM THE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED 25, MUSIC FANS WHO LOVE NOTHING MORE THAN A MANUFACTURED COMPETITION BETWEEN POP STARS, PARTICULARLY FEMALE ONES, TOOK TO SOCIAL MEDIA TO IMMEDIATELY CELEBRATE THAT THE BRIT WAS ABOUT TO DETHRONE TAYLOR SWIFT IN JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING. And she did, in a way. The video for “Hello” broke YouTube viewing records, and the song instantly became #1 in, like 5,000 countries or something. But I’m not here to add to the “let’s diss Taylor” pile. True, I admit to publicly declaring that most of Swift’s music doesn’t do much for me. While I appreciate how smart she is in terms of fan engagement and making sure her simple-yet-relatable lyrics ring true for every young, romantic ear out there, she’s simply not my preference. (And if
you ask me, I think “Style” was the best single to be released from 1989, despite it being the least successful of the five we have thus far. I wish it had gotten as much airplay as the now-ingratiating “Bad Blood.”) What I’m trying to say here is that the whole Adele vs. Taylor debate is based on unreasonable opinions; each camp could argue and defend their respective idol until the cows come home. And of course, there’s the whole spectator sport of pitting women against each
other, especially female pop stars. It’s something that’s been practiced as long as I have been alive (Madonna vs. Cyndi, Whitney vs. Mariah, Britney vs. Christina), and frankly, we should all know by now that it’s complete and utter sexist bullshit -- and I am guilty of having participated in it in the past. However, if said pop stars have true beef with each other -- as we’ve seen on Twitter, and most recently, on the VMA stage -- then, by all means, we’ll just have to fight to urge to fan those flames. Instead, the discussion we need to have should explore how and why two female artists, both amazing in their own right, have such different approaches and sensibilities while sharing a similar amount of fame and success. While Adele wrote most of her third album at the age of 25 (she’s now 27), Taylor seems to be peaking at the same age. Therefore, perhaps what we should really focus on is where they came from, the cultures from which these two individuals originated, because I think that’s how we can understand why they are who they are and why their musical tendencies seem so different despite being (roughly) the same age. In other

words, is there a difference between an American 25 and a European 25? First, let’s take a general look at their audiences. While Taylor gets much respect from around the world, the fanaticism mostly stems from young females. Sure, she may have broadened her audience with the pop-friendlier 1989, but she doesn’t seem to hit ALL the audience quadrants like the British singer does. Critics and naysayers who continue to be unwooed by the former country starlet still consider her music adolescent, the sounds and stylings of a 17-year-old clinging to her diary with romanticized notions of the perfect relationship. But, like the song goes, haters gonna hate hate hate hate hate. Adele’s fandom, on the other hand, is basically associated with young women, men, soccer moms, and grandparents. Her appeal crosses generations and demographics in a way few pop acts do. Her sounds and stylings earn her praises that label her “an old soul,” someone wise beyond her years. Her lyrics, especially combined with those evocative vocals, belie a ton of life experiences. (And now that she’s a mum, I’m sure she gained even more insight.) Maybe Taylor’s just having fun, soaking up her mid-20s while they last, hanging with her squad, welcoming her famous friends to join her on stage at sold-out arenas, and posing with male models on various sets. It’s what any girl young woman her age (with that much clout) would do. Making tons of publicized appearances, nabbing herself a piece of dashing arm candy in the form of an internationally-renowned DJ and Armani model, amping up her image with an all-star, action-packed music video loaded with special effects... There’s nothing wrong with all of this. It just happens to feel so very...American. 13
Yet Adele doesn’t feel the need to fill her productions with celebrity cameos. According to i-D magazine, which nabbed the first interview she’s given in three years, “it’s incredible, unheard of really, for an artist in 2015 to be so famous and yet play the game as little as Adele does.” Further proof: she’s not very reliant on social media either. So, how does she evade it all? “It’s definitely harder to avoid it than it is to give into it,” she told the magazine. “I think most people tend to give into it because it is easier, but I just can’t. I’m uncomfortable with giving into that kind of thing. Me being photographed in Waitrose [a supermarket] is being famous for no reason, and that is something that I am not up for and I will not stand for, for myself.” She even manages to avoid any places where the paparazzi are poised to capture her in a candid moment. “It’s not me trying to be like fucking anti-famous cunty, I just want to have a real life so I can write records. No one wants to listen to a record from someone that’s lost touch with reality. So I live a low-key life for my fans.” One could argue that this outlook on fame and celebrity, this humbling philosophy, is so very...British. After all, the British stereotype tells us that they’re a more reserved people, more modest in their pursuits, and that British youth -- and Europeans in general -- tend to mature faster than their American counterparts. (Legal drinking age of 18! Taking a “gap year” to see the world after high school! Less reliance on parental support!) Could this be true when it comes to observing the lives and careers of these two global superstars who hail from different nations? Granted, there may be nothing reserved about Adele when you hear her swear like a working class laborer in interviews, but still, her image/ brand is undeniably more subdued and muted than the one Taylor puts out.
The proof is in each singer’s highestprofiled project of 2015 -- just place the sepia-toned shots of “Hello” up against the Bruckheimerian loudness of “Bad Blood.” More from i-D: This is why Adele is important. Not because she sells millions of records and wins every award going. She’s important to me and to you because she sings about life in a way that deeply moves and affects us and she does this in spite of “engagement” and “coverage” and “reach”. She doesn’t play the fame game. She doesn’t return with a new look or a new concept every album. Adele is an artist, not an entertainer. However, what Taylor and Adele both possess is an incredible amount of selfawareness as artists (or whatever you want to call them). Both have talked about how much they realize they’re figures in a very unique position, cogs in a giant machine that can continue to make them...or break them in an instant. And with that comes the responsibility of crafting very meticulous PR moves; I’m sure both of their teams have their work cut out for them. It just so happens that, while one is known for making more splashes and seemingly embracing everything that comes with selling millions of albums, the other is known for taking more modest approaches to her artistry and being comfortable not subscribing to the celebrity playbook. This doesn’t make either one of them better than the other. It simply makes them great in their own way, especially in the eyes of those buying whatever they’re selling. So go ahead, start a Twitter feud or a comment battle on YouTube if you must. Defend Adele or Taylor to your heart’s content. I’ll just sit here and turn up the volume on whichever one of their tracks suits my mood at the moment. November 2015 - BELLO

MOCKINGJAY: PART 2 IS DUE TO BREAK THE INTERNET OVER THE NEXT FEW WEEKS WITH THE CAST IN FULL PROMOTION FORCE. THE WORLD TOUR BEGINS IN A WEEK AND, WITH A FRANCHISE THAT IS SO ENGRAINED IN OUR MINDS, THIS FINAL FILM IS SURE TO BE THE TOP GROSSING MOVIE IN THE ENTIRE TETRALOGY. DESPITE BEING A LATER INTRODUCTION TO THE FRANCHISE, WES’ PERSONAL EXPERIENCE IS JUST AS POIGNANT. “IT’S DEFINITELY SAD THE FACT THAT WE ALL BECAME A FAMILY AND THAT WE WERE PART OF THIS AMAZING ADVENTURE FOR YEARS AND NOW WE’RE MOVING ON FROM THAT”.
However, there’s nothing like an eventful wrap party to wipe away those tears. “There were a lot of parties! There was a really wonderful wrap party that we all went to. There was a sad atmosphere because all of these people have been working together for so many years but there was also a satisfied feeling in the air because they’re really proud of the work that’s been done. They told the story that needed to be told. The timing was right”. Despite the dystopian nature of the film and the dark and serious themes present, it definitely seems like a cast any actor would crave to be a part of. “I don’t say this all the time but this was one of the most fun experiences I’ve had making a film. The movie is very dark and we spent 9-10 months shooting it and dealing with that subject matter on a daily basis. If you take it too seriously you would go crazy. Off camera it was non-stop joking and fun and games”. As if we didn’t guess already, it seems Jennifer Lawrence is the biggest “jokester” on set. However, for Wes there is a clear distinction between ‘jokester’ and ‘prankster’. “In terms of a jokester, it would probably be Jen. Prankster – someone who’s actually 17
doing thought out pranks, definitely Woody!” A game that proved quite popular on set was the ‘circle game’ whereby someone makes a circle with their hand, like an ‘OK’, below their waist and attempts to get people to look at it. If you fail by looking at the circle, you get punched! Who wouldn’t want to play this on the Hunger Games set? One cast member stood out as the biggest competitor though. “Woody was the best at this game and as soon as you were focused on something else during a scene, he was trying to distract you with the circle! Then you get punched in the arm. We took that game very seriously and played that extensively”. With the Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 tour fast approaching, we’ll get to see a lot more of Wes and the legendary cast that make up this paramount franchise. “What I enjoy about the premiere is getting together with the cast and crew who I haven’t seen in a while. You go off and you do these movies and you get really close with everybody then as soon as its over, everyone goes off and does their own thing and you don’t see them again until the premiere, so that’s always nice”.
Even though Hunger Games has occupied most of his time, Wes has many other projects up his sleeve. In another dark and brooding film, Wes is set to play ‘Daniel’ alongside Blake Lively in a psychological drama, All I See Is You. “I play somebody that’s a good friend of hers [Blake Lively] who has a big crush on her. As her marriage starts to get strained through a bunch of different circumstances, I start to become a tempter”. As if that’s not enough to tease his fans, he has another enterprise that is sure to set tongues wagging. “There is this show I’m really excited about it’s called The Expanse. It comes out December 14th about a month after the Hunger Games. It’s on the sci-fi channel. I’ve seen most of it so far and I’m just blown away by it. It is something I’m really excited about and excited for everyone see”. Lionsgate have been tantalizing fans with teaser trailers and short clips for the final instalment of this mega franchise. The anticipation is almost too much to bear as we embark on the final leg of this long, enduring battle.

ACTOR:

The first-time father reveals all. WORDS BY MICHELLE GANNEY
ENTERTAINMENT issue - BELLOmag.com

HE IS DUE TO PLAY KEVIN BRADY IN NETFLIX’S NEW SERIES “NARCOS,” WHICH DETAILS THE NOTORIOUS AND SCANDALOUS STORY OF COLUMBIAN DRUG LORD PABLO ESCOBAR. ADDITIONALLY, HE HAS BEEN CAST AS MARTY “JUNIOR” MCCORMACK IN TNT’S CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED CRIME DRAMA “MURDER IN THE FIRST.”
Despite the serious nature of these shows and the immense brooding depth of these roles, AJ has welcomed with open arms a very different character in the form of a loveable and whimsical T-Rex. It seems the Irish-born actor has a real soft spot for the Disney and Pixar family, no doubt thanks to his new father status. Having emigrated from Donnybrook, Ireland when he was just six years old, AJ has a penchant to visit his roots again. “I was actually there [Ireland] two years ago. I’d love to go back there again. My daughter’s 21 months old now, so I definitely want to take her back there and show her the land of the leprechauns”. The newfound father is overjoyed to be playing the adorable Nash in Pixar’s highly anticipated “The Good Dinosaur.” “The reason Pixar are so successful is because they’re such a family. I’m a huge dork, as I love cartoons and I have absolutely loved every Pixar movie that has ever been made. They’re all classics. I actually had to check with my agent and said: ‘Are you sure this offer is me for me?’”
adorable. “The director happened to love “Justified.” He was like, ‘I love your character and when I heard your voice I thought you’d be perfect for Nash.’ Nash is this T-Rex who is really friendly and kind of dumb, which is so crazy because my character on “Justified” is a sociopathic, murderous person. You just never know what role is going to get you your next job so it’s quite a funny story. This was definitely on my bucket list.”
difference in his mindset and approach to life. “My lifestyle just completely changed because there were all these opportunities that opened up for me. I know I’m never going to be this super wiry guy so it is about finding out what is the best you can be with what your body is able to do. That was the approach he took. He said to worry about what everyone else looks like, but on what is the best that you can get you to be and mentally stay there.”
Taking a stark turn, AJ is set to make an appearance in Netflix’s upcoming series Narcos. He plays detective Kevin Brady who is exploring the infamous drug cartels in the 70’s, when cocaine first hit the market. “It was really fun, I was in Bogotá, Colombia filming, which was interesting. I had seen some documentaries on Pablo Escobar, but I did not know the depths of what the guy had done. It is pretty insane. He was making $60 million a day at one point and he did not know where to put the money so he would just dig holes and bury it”.
What is even more interesting is the type of exercise AJ embraced while he was training. With his sculpted and toned physique you would not think he got that way from doing downward-facing dog, would you? However, pilates proved to be one of his most intense workouts. “I did a lot of Pilates with Ky Evans. I don’t care what anybody says, it is hard! Ky was a former ballerina. I mean have you ever seen a male ballerina before? They’re jacked!”
AJ is already getting his daughter geared up to see him on the big screen this Thanksgiving. “Her first time in a movie theatre will be to watch this film [The Good Dinosaur]. I’ve got her loads of dinosaur books and I keep trying to tell her that Daddy’s a T-Rex. She’s pretty pumped up about it so it will be interesting to see her reaction”.
Similar to this role, AJ has also been cast as cop Marty in “Murder in the First.” The level of physical aptitude that was required of him to play this character proved tough. “When I got cast, I was a little out of shape from being a dad. I call it ‘fappy’, fat and happy! So there was this strict requirement that in order for me to play this role I really had to put on some muscle. I had this amazing trainer, Rehan Jalali, who has trained Ben Affleck and a bunch of other actors”.
However, the reason he was originally chosen to play Nash wasn’t so
Not only did AJ improve on his form physically, but he also found a

Of course, exercise is only the half of it. “The biggest thing was I went on this Mediterranean diet plan from Lee Knaz. I ended up losing like 40 pounds, which is by far the best shape I have ever been in. It’s become addictive. Even when I have cheat days, my body doesn’t feel good, so I find it is much better to eat clean all the time.” With 2015 rapidly drawing to a close, it is good to know that we will still be able to see AJ in action with “Narcos” and “Murder in the First” before the year’s out. Moreover, “The Good Dinosaur” is due out in theatres on November 25th, just in time for Thanksgiving! November 2015 - BELLO

I Survived New York Comic-Con ADRIENNE MCILVAINE (@mizocty) lived to tell her tale and report from the geek-filled center where superfans and pop culture collide.
NEW YORK COMIC-CON, WHICH HAS BEEN BRINGING COSPLAYERS, COMIC FANS, AND POP CULTURE JUNKIES TOGETHER SINCE 2006, KICKED OFF ITS TENTH ANNIVERSARY EVENT LAST MONTH AT THE JACOB K. JAVITS CONVENTION CENTER ON THE WEST SIDE OF MANHATTAN.
Surpassing the famous San Diego Comic-Con in attendance--in 2014 the four-day event hit 151,000 attendees-NYCC offers attendees everything from the opportunity to meet up with fellow fans to hundreds of panels that celebrate, encourage, and inspire the geek and superhero in all of us. First of all, trying to see all of NYCC is next to impossible. Even after four days, there were still whole areas of the Con I didn’t get to, like Artist Alley ENTERTAINMENT issue - BELLOmag.com

and the cavernous autographing room, packed with talent like Natalie Dormer and Nathan Fillion and comic legends Todd MacFarlane and Jim Krueger. Just walking the show floor, where hundreds of indie designers and artists set up shop to sell art, comics, toys, clothing and more, can take an entire day. I gave it one afternoon before stumbling out in a daze of freebies, Dr. Who shirts, and dozens of Harley Quinn cosplayers. This year, NYCC substantially increased its TV coverage, holding panels and screenings in both the wristbandrequired Main Stage and Hammerstein Ballroom, just a few blocks east. Some of them were strictly Q&A affairs, like CBS’s Elementary with Johnny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu, which was a surprisingly in-depth discussion about diversity and
the importance of agitating for change; and USA’s Mr. Robot, where a raucous crowd packed the 3,500-capacity venue to listen to creator Sam Esmail and
the tight-knit cast throw shade (Carly Chaiken admitted that star Rami Malek is so mischievous she doesn’t believe anything he says) and offer hints about season two (surprise! it gets even darker). While it was fun watching John Noble and Christian Slater joke around and offer insights about their work, even better was seeing world premieres of highly-anticipated shows months before everyone else. I can’t say much about the mindblowing premiere of The X-Files that had myself and other diehard fans both cheering and crying, but I can share the joy of watching superfan Kumail Nanjiani moderate a panel with Chris Carter, David Duchovny and Mitch Pileggi that touched on everything from how Carter felt the show needed to make a bold statement about the world we live in now...and how Pileggi unconsciously modeled Skinner after his father. And having a birds-eye view to the absolute mayhem that followed Marvel’s reveal of the first episode of Netflix’s darkly terrifying Jessica Jones was the kind of goosebumps moment that NYCC prides itself on delivering. While NYCC is full of over-the-top moments that thrive on the new, it was an intimate and very funny panel with 90s YA icons R.L. Stine and Ann M. Martin that perfectly summed up the weekend--a nostalgic look at the past that points a way to our future.

IL: It was legendary! He has such an ease about him. Very poised, grounded, inspiring.

Inbar Lavi: The last ship was a beautiful arc. It took us about 8 months to shoot.
BM: Who would you say your acting idol is?
BM: You are so busy at the moment. Are you going to have some time off this Christmas?
BM: Vin Diesel is such a household name, what was it like to work alongside him on “The Last Witch Hunter”? IL: It was amazing. He was nothing but kind to me, happy to answer any question I had. He was very open and welcoming. BM: He just appeared on The Jonathan Ross show in London to promote the film. Are you a fan of that aspect of the job? Going to premieres, red carpets, etc.? BM: What is the most extreme change you have had to make to land a role? IL: Changing my look is such a great tool for each of the characters I get to play. I love stretching the envelope and experimenting all the time. I played a Russian cop for a year and dyed my hair blond for the role. Let’s just say my hair was happy that gig ended! I played a schizophrenic patient who suffered from insomnia and eating disorders. I had to eat yogurt and veggies for an entire summer of filming. I was so hungry it literally kept me up at night
of now I am enjoying the crazy ride. I will definitely be going home to Israel for a visit when things simmer down. BM: What upcoming projects are you working on that you want to share with your fans? I’m working on an incredible new show for BRAVO called “My So Called Wife” and it has me doing things I have never done before. Rivera Del Rio
Experience Old Hollywood Glamour at Puerto Vallarta’s Ultimate Bed & Breakfast BY BRENT LAMBERT
IN RECENT YEARS I HAVE BECOME INCREASINGLY CONVINCED OF THE POWER OF INTUITION. IT’S THAT STRONG VOICE OF REASON IN THE CENTER OF THE STORM THAT COMPELS US TO MAKE A DECISION, MAKE A MOVE OR MAKE A CHANGE. THAT SAME VOICE KICKED IN DURING A RECENT TRIP TO SAYULITA AND PUERTO VALLARTA IN MEXICO.
After two weeks of a blissful vacation with friends, it was time to go home, when at the last minute my “spidey sense” told me it was too soon to leave. Therefore, I decided I would stay another four days, and I would make the most of what little time I had left in Mexico all by myself. The last thing I wanted to do was stay in a Puerto Vallarta megaresort, so I looked into some boutique hotels and bed & breakfasts in the city’s Zona Romantica -- and that’s how I discovered the hidden gem known as Rivera del ENTERTAINMENT issue - BELLOmag.com
Rio. Two days later I found myself on a secluded, tucked-away street running alongside the Rio Cuale, walking up the stairs to my new home away from home. The humidity was relentless so it was already a slice of heaven to find myself in the cool hotel lobby in the middle of August, but with one glance around the interior I knew this was going to be an experience that would take “cool” to a whole other level. Within minutes, I was served the best margharita I think I have ever had in my life (which was, of course, followed by a
second). After a great balcony chat with Diego, as well as a walk through the stunning lobby which comes with an open-air lap pool, piano, and exquisite decor, I was all set. Owned and operated by Alexander James Andriadis Killen, the Rivera del Rio was in need of a major upgrade when he first acquired the property. After a few years of incredible work and renovation -- including linking the huge building to another building on the south side -- the eight-room hotel was open and ready for business. In the few 50
is impeccably designed and will bring an unforgettable atmosphere and character to your stay. Each corner of the Rivera del Rio drips in elegance and style, so it is no accident the hotel is famous for much more than travel alone. VOGUE and Italian ELLE have each taken full advantage of the hotel’s interior design for photoshoot locations, as well as director Tony Scott, who used the hotel as a location in one of his films.
years since its opening, Rivera del Rio has already established itself as one of Mexico’s premier bed and breakfast villas, raking in countless five-star reviews from travellers worldwide who have a budget-smart passion for style, luxury, and Old Hollywood glam. The first night I treated myself to the penthouse suite and even though I had just spent two weeks soaking up the beauty of much of western Mexico, this one night of penthouse perfection ranked as one of my vacation’s biggest highlights. My own private balcony gave me a near 360-degree view of the city, the jungled mountain and the ocean beyond. When I returned later that night, I was sure to make my way to the rooftop alabaster jacuzzi and swimming pool.

While bubbling away under a dome of stars, for a brief moment, I toyed with the idea of giving up my life back home and staying here forever. The next morning I enjoyed breakfast on my rooftop balcony and discovered the amazing Mexican dish, chilaquiles, which has since become my numberone breakfast of choice. After a quick pack, I made my way down to the Mariposa Room, my new room for the next three nights. Designed with a butterfly concept in mind, what the Mariposa lacks in size compared to the penthouse, it makes up for in charm. In fact, each room at the Rivera del Rio has its own unique theme. From the Scarlett Room, to the Green Room, to the Cortez Suite and others, each room
Not one to rest on his laurels, Alexander is embarking on a new boutique hotel adventure as well. Just down the road is his brand new Garlands del Rio, an equally magical hotel experience which celebrated its grand opening on October 30th. Also nestled alongside the Rio Cuale, the Garlands del Rio boasts eight gorgeous rooms and a host of amenities and comforts for your ultimate Mexican getaway. As hard as it was to say goodbye to my Mexican adventure, my trusty intuition made sure to remind me that all endings lead to new beginnings. I have a feeling I will be back sooner than I think, but next time I will have to let my intuition guide me in another tough decision -which of these two hotels am I to choose for my next dream trip. SWIMMER TO ACTOR TO MODEL – ROMULO NETO’S ACCOMPLISHMENTS CONTINUE TO THRIVE AND EXCITE. IN SPITE OF HIS DEVILISHLY HANDSOME LOOK, THE MODELING WORLD WAS NOT ALWAYS ROMULO’S CALLING. SWIMMING WAS HIS TRUE ARDOR. “I STARTED SWIMMING WHEN I WAS REALLY YOUNG AND I STARTED COMPETING WHEN I WAS SIX.”
It was his late father who ignited this bittersweet passion of his. “I stopped swimming because when you start at such a young age and you take it so seriously, I kind of had enough when I became a teenager. It was a hard life, really hard training and when my father passed away I was sad that I didn’t have my coach by my side.” However, the competitive sporting streak still runs deep. He just shot a feature in Brazil starring as a boxer for one of his upcoming films. “My character is very strong but at the same time complex, he is so mean and so intense. The role itself is a big mystery because there is so much going on and we can’t talk about it properly yet! It is coming out in January. The boxing side was so fun because I love fighting. I practiced jujitsu when I was really young. My father used to tell me: ‘You are going to grow up and you must learn how to secure and protect yourself and your family.’” Even though he hails from Rio de Janeiro, Romulo has a soft spot for the U.S. “I try to go the States and to L.A. when I have a long vacation but it’s been hard to find a break. I really miss L.A. I love the business in the USA because everything is so professional, things happen there. In Brazil, things are more messed up. The system in the 55
United States works perfectly. I really feel familiar when I am over there”. Photography and modeling go hand in hand, so although he is usually the object of a nurturing lens, Romulo is just as comfortable behind the camera. “Actually I love photographing and that is why I signed up for Instagram. But I am also not ‘that Instagram guy.’ I feel really exposed sometimes, I am not comfortable doing selfies all the time. Sometimes I do it but I do it because I think it’s necessary for work. I try to do it for the business but for me at the same time”. With the entertainment industry being so unpredictable, it can be difficult for aspiring actors and models to flourish. However, Romulo has unearthed a philosophy that keeps him modest and reassured. “What doesn’t kill me makes me stronger. I think that quality is really Brazilian because even though we have corruption, crises and violence, we’re always smiling and trying to improve. We do whatever we need to be happy, we are always in a good mood!” From anticipating a regular model/actor interview with predictable aspirations, I came away quite impressed with this endearing, focussed, sensitive artist. A strong career beckons. November 2015 - BELLO
