Note from the Editor Bello
Today more than ever, I realized that travels are about the little things. For me, it can be a palette of color, the food, the smell of a blossom, the salty taste of the ocean or a specific sound, all that combined creates my travel memories. My top summer destination, even tho I am from the south of France, remains Italy, In particular the Amalfi Coast. With this BELLO Obsessions, I am re-creating a slice of summer that is as energetic as a citrus blast. Orange blossom, lemon zest, pops of turquoise ... if i close my eyes, I could picture myself in Capri. Traveling with us in this issue is 13 Reasons Why actor Deaken Bluman photographed in the Hollywood Hills by Tony Duran. This story is about the meeting of two creative minds, on each side of the camera and we could not love the result more. We also chatted with Yellowstone's Hassie Harrison and went beachside with two fashion stories that will leave your skin sun kissed and your lips salty. Ciao Stephane Marquet Creative Director

In life, we are faced with many obstacles and experiences that push us out of our comfort zone. “I was nervous. Shaking in my boots. It was a struggle to keep the jitters down,” shared Deaken Bluman about his first time on set of the infamous “13 Reasons Why.” Being the newbie, he knew he had to just get through it and pay his dues, earn it. “Now flash forward to the fourth season. I was even more terrified than my very first day,” he shared laughingly. At this point, they went looking for a guru and it was John F Bocca. who kept Deaken “cool through episodes 2-10. Still is. Thanks, John.” Truly showcasing his talent in the series, the young actor was able to learn a lot from this experience. “A ton. From showing up. Set parodical. “Social skilling/skiing.” From just the basis of knowing how to learn lines. Being surrounded by artists,” he expressed. Everyone on set played a huge role in this process “from other actors to the genius who put up the lights.” Bluman admits he gained a lot from this but as he put it “doesn’t mean I won't be scared shitless next time.” Open and honest, Bluman is truly a breath of fresh air. Staying true to himself, he painted us a picture of his childhood so we could get to know the “OG Bluman.” Now, I could go ahead and paraphrase his response but I think we will all agree he couldn’t have said it better himself… “I loved the smells of the apple orchards in fall. The crisp snowy wind in winter. The lead and lunchbox plastic of a classroom. The shag carpet of home. Grandma's famous cooking. Recipes that are a hundred years old by now. The logs of my cabin. The pine trees...mmm. I grew up in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Yep, I was born in a zoo.” You got the chills too, right?
Taking life head-on, we all face obstacles at some point and what matters is how we decide to overcome them. For Bluman, it’s “Bite by bite. Chew then swallow. Enjoying the rollercoaster of hell might be a dandy trick.” There is still time to master this; something many of us are still trying to do day by day. It’s a learning process right? We are constantly evolving as people, discovering new things about yourself, and how we view the world. Layer after layer, there is always something new to discover about ourselves and for others to discover about us. So what is something about our dear Bluman most people don’t know? He likes to fold laundry. Bet you weren’t expecting that answer. During a summer when he was just starting to make money, all the good jobs were taken so he got a job at the Fairfield Inn in Traverse City, Michigan. He and his co-worker worked in the basement of this “skanky hotel, blazing hot dryers going all day, folding, smoking Pall Malls in a hundred degree heat with the humidity over that.” But when it was time to quit Bluman just jumped in with his clothes. “The best thing that came out of it is that I know how to fold a fitted sheet better than anyone I know. By far,” he shared boldly. Embracing the philosophy of carpe diem, Deaken Bluman brings boldness, authenticity, and talent to the table. When asked what his dream role would be, he shared that it would only be characters he has seen before. “I think taking the things that I really loved about the people I've seen in movies and adding them to a person I would create, is a dream. Even the opportunity in doing that is a dream,” he expressed. Excited to see where his endeavors take him next, Bluman inspires those around him to remain true to themselves and seize the day!
Bluman shared these moments with his brother, Dempsey, who also happens to be the most influential person in his life. “We have the best times. We could be anyone in the sacred ground that the forest granted,” he shared excitedly. Before hitting the big screen, it’s safe to say that the talented actor came from a very nurturing and wholesome background. Having no idea what direction his life would take, Bluman found himself in the entertainment industry and as he shared openly “I had no idea what I wanted to be. Still don't. Isn’t that the greatest thing about this craft? You can be whatever you want to be.”

As an actress, what is your favorite part about the job? I love getting to meet new people and to participate in the collaboration and creation of art, design and fantasy. It keeps life very interesting and exciting, which is important because I’m very curious by nature. This work allows me to explore what makes people tick, both in the characters I play and the cast and crew I work so closely with. If you are genuinely interested in the people around you, you’ll never be bored. Was there ever a time where you hesitated on which career path to pick? Ha! Show me an actor who hasn’t! Laughs A few years ago I was in one of those valleys where it felt like a career in acting wasn’t going to happen for me. But with the support and encouragement of some great friends, I stuck to it and ended up booking Tacoma FD. Timing is such a funny thing. Watching the trajectory of other actors’ careers has always been fascinating to me. You really have to stay in your own lane if you want to stay sane.

How has your experience on YELLOWSTONE been going? It’s been incredible. Taylor Sheridan is truly gifted on so many levels. His vision for the world of Yellowstone is so clear and precise which makes the experience of acting in it, that much richer. It’s an honor to be involved in and privy to his process. My fellow actors are so talented; they have really raised the bar for me. I am doing my best to rise to the occasion. The cast and crew are all warm, hardworking and lovely people and I’ve learned a lot from them. Yellowstone has changed me both personally and professionally. I am forever grateful. Share with us a moment on set you can never forget. It was the first day. We were on set in the bunkhouse, and I was working through my first-day nervousness when Kevin Costner walked in. My heart rate skyrocketed to be in the same room with such a legend. He sat down behind the camera, cup of coffee in hand, to watch the scene and I remember thinking, “Oh damn, I just officially leveled up.”

How does YELLOWSTONE differ from other projects you have worked on? Yellowstone is my first Western and let’s just say this Texan is over the moon about it. Not to mention, the production value of this show is extraordinary. Each episode is shot like a movie. That’s a really special thing to be a part of in this day and age. We also go through Cowboy Camp as part of our training, which feels like a return to my childhood. I love being able to ride horses all day and dig deeper into my Western roots. Tell us more about your very first time on a set. How were you feeling? What was it for? My first gig was on a show called Hart of Dixie which was shot on the Warner Bros lot in Burbank. Driving to set in a golf cart, surrounded by the giant stages of well-known shows felt surreal to me. When I saw the set of True Blood, an absolute favorite show of mine, I screamed with excitement. Everyone turned to look at what was going on. Needless to say, I’m an ultra-smooth operator. How would you describe your fashion style? Ever evolving…I have made huge efforts to lower my overall consumption these last couple of years. I’m gutted by the statistics of how much waste the fashion industry creates. I do my best to help create a more sustainable industry by buying predominately second-hand. I love websites like TheRealReal, ThreadUp, and Poshmark and have been finding some great pieces, some real scores! What is something about yourself that most people don’t know? I really thrive in an academic environment. I graduated highschool early and went to college when I was fifteen and studied business and archaeology. I also did a semester abroad in Copenhagen where I studied European cinema, which was a great experience. Looking back it’s clear that my education grounded me and gave me the confidence needed to strike out on my own and give acting a try. I worked really hard in school and I’m proud of that. Who was your celebrity crush growing up? I grew up watching Legends of the Fall on repeat so Brad Pitt as Tristan will always hold a special place in my heart. Also, James Dean. I had a poster of him in my room growing up. What an absolute smokestack he was. You can choose any project to work on: what genre do you pick? Hmmm. probably a dark comedy, western, fantasy, superhero project. My apologies for the obnoxious response but that question is impossible.

A capsule collection drawing inspiration from the beautiful Lake Garda. “There has always been strong feminine sensibility running through the Casablanca DNA, so launching a dedicated womenswear collection makes total sense for us. The new pieces combine new silhouettes with Casablanca’s unique prints, lightweight polos to pastel suits, effortlessly chic with a 70's vibe.
