Despite the progress we have made in our World, there are still many groups of people who are marginalized and assigned labels which can be belittling at times. In the entertainment industry, we see many people of different backgrounds being stereotyped based on their race and although we are moving forward from this, there is still a lot of work to do. For Justin H. Min, this is exactly what made him believe he couldn’t become an actor when he was younger: “You know, growing up when I saw TV shows and movies here in the States, I never saw people who looked like me,” he shared. “I never even thought it was an option, I never saw Asian-American men on tv and movie screens.” Min expanded on how Asian-American men, in particular, have been shown in very negative and stereotypical ways. As he continued, “You know the “nerdy IT guys” or some emasculated male or the guy who never gets the girl… all of these things.” So, what an opportunity and surprise it was when the talented actor found out he would be playing on the now renowned Netflix Series THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY. Yes, surprise. Having no knowledge of who he would be playing prior to his arrival on set, it was only then that his role was unveiled. The showrunner, Steve Blackman, pulled him aside and told him about “Ben Hargreeves aka Number 6.” As Min expressed, “I was so excited and shocked, and yet very confused because in the comic books, that brother is just dead and is not talked about ever again.” He, later on, found out that the studio took some creative license and decided to make “Ben” a ghost who interacts exclusively with Klaus, the sibling whose powers allow him to speak to the dead.

Double surprise! Robert Sheehan, who plays Klaus, shared his first scene with Min which could not have made Min any happier. Excitedly he shared, “I have been a fan of his work for a long time so again; it was, such an out of body and surreal experience for me to be acting in scenes with someone whose work I admired.” Being part of this show was overall a surreal experience and the biggest job Min had gotten to date. There were hundreds of people on set in massive sound stages, which made it all the more thrilling and exciting. The cast and crew developed a strong chemistry and became a family on and off screen. “I pinched myself many times that day (first day on set) to make sure I wasn’t dreaming,” he shared with a bright smile. What made this experience all the more special was the fact that he got to play someone like Ben, a character which does not include the usual stereotypes which a lot of people assign to Asian-American men. In the second season, Ben has a love story with an African-American woman, “and even that is so powerful. How many Asian men and African-American women couples have you seen on screen? I can’t really think of any, so even being able to represent that was really important and powerful to me.” The show touched his heart on many different levels.

After all, to Min, the show is centered around family more than the world of powers and superheroes; something we can all relate to. “The show does a great job of showcasing what a real family is like, and that includes a lot of dysfunction, a lot of fighting and a lot of bickering, but at the end of the day they still love each other,” he expressed. “To be able to be part of that family unit is so much fun, and I loved being able to develop those relationships with the other cast members.” The chemistry off-screen definitely translates to what is happening on screen. In terms of how he relates to “Ben” personally, “I don’t have tentacles coming out of my body,” he shared laughingly. “But in terms of Ben’s introvertedness, shyness, loyalty to his family and wanting to do what is right, those are things that really connect to me as a person.” Luckily, there was such a positive response to the show and Ben’s character which brought him back “as a full series regular in season 2.” Following this epic set, Min was also cast in A24’s AFTER YANG alongside renowned actors such as Colin Farrell and Jodie Turner-Smith; what a dream that was as well. Returning to New York where he went to college, he was able to go back to some of his old routines, “very nostalgic for me,” he shared. Mixed in with those feelings, this set was a lot more intimate, only thirty of them shooting in a house with Kogonada, a director who Min has always admired. “To be able to work under his direction was an honor and privilege.” Between the director and cast, the young actor found himself working with people he grew up watching and admiring, once again. “We truly became this tight-knit family; the sound guy, the camera guy, the hair and makeup people,” shared Min excitedly. “It was just us everyday, together, in this small little family shooting this movie and that experience is also amazing. I will never forget that experience.” The film was set to release this year but with everything going on, it will most likely come out in 2021. A little disappointed by the prolonged wait, the actor looks forward to seeing it come out and for people to watch it. Being part of these two projects was a dream that he found himself continuously in. Growing up, there was a part of him that must have known this was the path he would take as he has always been comfortable with public speaking. “I did a lot of speech and debate, I loved storytelling and writing, so when it came down to it and I started to pursue acting a couple of years after college I was like oh this makes sense,” he explained. Acting combines a lot of public speaking, storytelling and “just entertaining people and making them laugh, making them feel something. Connecting to people and to other artists.” And for Min, it goes beyond that.

As mentioned previously, the Asian-American actor never envisioned himself making it to the big screen and now he finds himself as a source of inspiration for many. As he shared humbly, “It is also very inspiring and moving to me when I hear young Asian-Americans message me or email me or talk to me on the streets explaining to me that they want to pursue the arts, become an actor.” When he first started his career, it was just “Justin Min,” but soon after he made it a point to include his middle initial “H” which stands for his Korean name “Hong-Kee.” Having grown up in a predominantly Asian-American neighborhood, Min’s parents are first-generation immigrants from South Korea. “My heritage and culture are important parts of my identity and I always want to make sure that they are highlighted and showcased,” expressed the actor proudly. As he steps onto any set, the caring actor asks himself “What am I really contributing to society?” And that is when he realizes that “art and visibility are some of the most powerful ways of changing culture and perceptions and to change people’s thinking.” Something he is honored and privileged to be a part of. Promoting change through art was something Min was exposed to during his college years. Along with writing, he also has a love of photography; a talent he discovered when he was working with a non-profit organization in Venezuela for a summer. Before leaving, his father handed him an old Nikon camera and with it, he took many photographs of his trip. When he got back, the people from the organization saw the photos he took and reached out to him to let him know he has a great eye. Surprised and humbled, Min shared “it just goes to show how powerful even just a little encouragement is,” which pushes him to be the “voice of encouragement” for those around him. He continued on this path as he traveled the world capturing moments that mattered, such as his trip to Cambodia proved as he worked with many survivors of the Khmer Rouge genocide. “It is so powerful to be able to sit with someone and listen to their story, particularly a story of someone who survived a genocide. I got to be part of that storytelling process by photographing them; to see those photos move and inspire people to get informed and donate to help some of these causes and organizations,” described the caring actor. “I don’t think I could have wished for anything more.” Once again, art has proven to be a powerful source of inspiration for change and progress. On and off screen, Justin H. Min is a true hero. Off screen his superpowers include humility, care, and dedication. Bridging the gap between real life and stereotypes, the talented actor uses art to

promote change, to finally get people to listen. Working hard every day, he also aims to do some work behind the camera, “so when we are talking about writers, producers, directors you don’t see a lot of diversity in those higher-level positions,” he discussed. “I would love to be able to do that in any way I can and open the door for more

Asian-American actors to get the platform and opportunities that I have been given because it is such an honor and privilege.” Min is building something here as he touches many hearts around him. Here at BELLO, he definitely touched our hearts and we hope after reading this yours were too!

Cameron Gellman is Melting Hearts Seen on STARGIRL, Cameron Gellman is melting hearts. Bringing such a bright and positive energy on and off set, the talented actor is someone to look out for. Learning from every experience, at different levels, Gellman takes it all in. From sports to arts, the handsome actor comes from a background of baseball which he matched with singing and acting! Due to an injury, he found himself being completely immersed in the creative world which has brought him here today. Here at BELLO, we had the chance to get to know Gellman a bit more and we can’t wait for you to as well!
Share with us the first time you stepped on set of STARGIRL. My first day on set I was in the cafeteria with the soon-to-be-JSA. I remember Anj and I both admitting we were terrified we were bad actors and we’d get fired. I went to Hunt’s trailer to get advice on how not to overthink my one line, and we laughed about it. I remember watching playback of our scene at the table on the monitors with the whole cast standing around, and Geoff told us that this was going to be our family for a long time. The new JSA. It felt so significant to be a part of it, and so exciting to know this was just day one of an amazing 6 month adventure. Who was a cast member you connected with strongly? Sharing a set with Brec as a fellow Type 1 Diabetic and Celiac buddy was pretty impactful for me. Both the unspoken understanding we had of each other’s challenges, and the times where we were able to step up and really look out for one another on set when one of us wasn’t feeling great were so meaningful to me. I loved passing management ideas back and forth, and am forever grateful for the ways she’s inspired me and supported me in being my healthiest self. What are some obstacles you faced and how did you overcome them? Moving to Atlanta and living on my own was a big adjustment for me. It felt like getting shot out of a cannon and suddenly being off to college. In my first week, I got my bank accounts flagged, had my mattress shipped to the wrong apartment, flooded my place via dish washer soap, shrank my clothes, and got my car booted. My castmate Hunt recorded the funniest video of me on the phone outside of the bank clearly accepting my defeat. Feeling worthy of being a major part of this project took me time. I got to go on a really cool ride of believing in myself more while Rick was working on doing the same in the show. And just like he had a team to bolster him up, I had all these incredible mentors and friends checking in on me every week reminding me to lean on my self-care tools, to get my rest, get my workouts in and to do yoga with. I had my cast going through the same stuff. Going through it together made it easier and brought us together.

Growing up, who was your favorite actor/actress you looked up to? I’ve always loved and been inspired by Matthew McConaughey. As a kid I watched all of his goofier stuff, Dazed and Confused, Fool’s Gold, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days…but then I hit my later teens and saw movies like Dallas Buyers Club and Interstellar. Beyond being such a great actor, the things he speaks about publicly really resonate with me. He gave an Oscar speech about his hero being him in 10 years and that’s always stuck with me. He talks about joy and meaning in life coming from specifically defining YOUR vision of success and nurturing the accounts that define that, and I use this in my daily life. How have your different projects shaped you as an actor today? Every job I’ve worked on has encouraged some aspect of my artistry that needed a little love. The smaller roles I booked showed me how much value there is in watching others work, and that the kindness of leaders on set has a profound impact just as unkindness does. The bigger roles that came after called me out on the holes in my art and pushed me to learn as I went along on set. I don’t get too excited or too low anymore when projects become a huge hit or fade into oblivion because now I’ve experienced both. All that said, Stargirl is the project that gave me the support and the space I needed to learn how to act. I had 6 months to figure me out, work with all kinds of teachers, and learn from my very talented cast. After six years of pursuing this career, I know exactly the kind of team player, hard worker, and adventurer I want to be as an artist. When you are not acting, what does a typical day look like? Right now, it’s all about qua-routine for me to keep my overall health balanced. It goes like this: Wake up, couple minutes of free writing, cold shower, train, sauna, breakfast! That starts me off in the morning. Then, on a perfect day, I get to take a family walk with my puppies, adventure around LA grabbing cool art and furniture for the house I just moved into, play a few hours of guitar, and hang out with my best friends – lots and lots of facetime.

You are being sent to a deserted island and have 10 minutes to pack: what do you take first and who do you take with you? 10 minutes is not bad. My insulin comes first, gotta take the meds if I’m gonna endure my island stay. Then, a guitar is definitely the next thing I’d take to entertain myself and all the monkeys I become friends with. My two best friends Lexi and Georgia have to come with me as well. I’ll build the hammocks, Lexi will find all the fruit, nuts, and fish, and Georgia will make us a schedule and sing for us. What is an ideal role for you? To switch things up from what I’m working on now, I’d love to jump into a Westworldian, Peaky Blinders-type project where everything is different from the norm: the clothing, the rules of the world, the dialects. Most importantly, I want to continue working on projects like Stargirl where I have creative freedom, and get to be surrounded by collaborative, invested castmates where every day is an adventure together.

Share with us your journey before you started your acting career. I was a happy go-lucky, cookie consuming, baseball playing kiddo living in St. Louis, Missouri. Even though I was always super creative I focused on sports because my big brother was an athlete and I looked up to him. I blew out my arm pitching, and while I was healing, I finally had time to explore my creativity. I painted, acted, and sang during that time, fell in love with the arts, and now here we are. What kind of projects do you hope to work on in the future? I just want to do something super weird, abstract, and meaningful. Deeply collaborative, character driven, engaged director, and either a massive cast or two people. I think of filmmakers like Jordan Peele, Ari Aster, Greta Gerwig, Christopher Nolan, Dee Rees, Jill Soloway, and Sam Levinson. When tons of different mediums converge to tell a story in atypical fashion, that stuff really inspires me. I love when creators use coloring, SFX, fashion, choreography, and music to bring stories to life.

A true jack of all trades, it's safe to say that Corey O'Brien has been making moves! Tapping into his creative side on a daily basis, you can find him on a variety of platforms. Open about his own struggles with addiction, O'Brien is truly a guiding light for those around him. Using his platform for more than pure entertainment, his stories and hard work are inspiring for those who are going through similar experiences. In a world where it can feel like "every man for themselves," O'Brien reminds us that we are never alone. Expressing himself through art and more, Corey O'Obrien touches the hearts and minds of many.
We see that you have been busy with shoots, TikTok, YouTube, and content creation. What do you do to unwind and center yourself? I find solace in journaling, working out, and spending time outside. I thrive off of being busy and have been thankful during this time that I am still creating, but I have found it is just as important to take time away from my work to focus on my mental health.
What is something you never leave home without? A mask.
Why was it important to you to be open about your struggles with addiction? I found it to be very important so I can also be open about recovery. I haven't seen many young people talk about addiction or sobriety and felt a push to speak up. With all that is going on in this world, I wanted to share my story I could give some support and inspiration to anyone struggling. Isolation has impacted many people in recovery and I wanted to do my part in providing strength and creating space for this topic to be discussed.
Growing up, what were some factors that pushed you into the entertainment industry? I have always loved being able to express myself by creating art or movement. Being on stage for the first time was such an incredible feeling that I chased ever since that moment. I found love, acceptance, and confidence in dance. I couldn't imagine my life without art, so I decided to go full force at what I wanted. So whether I am dancing in a music video, TV show, or online, I have always found joy in my craft and thankful I get to spend my time doing what I love.
You recently announced that you teamed up with the nonprofit Shatterproof. Can you tell us about the organization and what you are working on? Shatterproof is an amazing organization that is transforming addiction treatment, ending stigma and creating change. After I released my letter in OUT Magazine speaking on my sobriety, I knew I wanted to continue bringing awareness to the disease of addiction and advocating for change. Teaming up with Shatterproof was the perfect fit because we share the same mission and are working on some incredible things together to spread the message of hope and recovery. What are the similarities and differences that you found being on TV versus creating your own content for YouTube? The similarities would be there is always a storyline and certain procedures that are followed to get the best finished product. I would say that being apart of different shows on TV was an awesome experience and I always looked forward to seeing the final edit. The difference with creating content for YouTube is that I get to be hands on with the production, editing, concepts, and creation. I love being able to show my creative side and watch my ideas come to life with YouTube.

Who has been a strong influence in your life? My mom. Watching her overcome what she has in life to get to a place of peace, self love and success is truly inspiring. She has found a way to use her voice and story to give back and provide support to those in need, which is something I am so proud of.
When you dance, what is running through your mind? Surprisingly, nothing is going through my mind and I think that is why I love dance so much. It is the only time that my mind completely shuts off and I am so focused on the movement and the way my body feels. What is a piece of advice someone gave you that you have carried with you to this day? "Do not let the opinions of others stop you from doing what you love" Where do you see yourself five years from now? Hopefully in a world where everyone is treated equal.

You play in the highly anticipated Peacock/NBC series reboot of “Saved By The Bell.” Who is someone on set you truly connected with? Yes! Being on SBTB is really a dream come true in the purest sense! I grew up watching the show, so being able to be on it as a lead series regular is surreal!! I’ve connected with all the new 6. Josie, Alycia, Belmont, Mitchel, and Haskiri. We understand that there is a certain pressure to live up to the legacy they left before us, so we try our best to uphold that standard! Having Mario and Elizabeth on set with us every day definitely helps! When you got the call that you booked the show, where were you? How did you respond? I had just landed back in the U.S from Egypt! I actually landed straight from Egypt, left from the airport to the audition room for my screen test! I was SUPER Jet lagged the next day when I got the call that I booked the show! I thought I was dreaming! I hung up and called my Manager and agents back like “That was real right?” Lol!
You will also be playing on Hulu's Feature Comedy THE BINGE. What was your best memory from shooting that? Yes! Honestly, my favorite memory was just connecting with Eduardo and Skyler! Our set was definitely a high energy environment, so knowing I can rely on my brothers at any moment helped make the movie what it is today! Having worked with talented and experienced actors, what are some important lessons you learned as an actor? I learned a lot from everyone! How important it was to be on time from Dolly Parton, How to ask for Forgiveness and not Permission when making a bold choice in a scene from Usher, How to take my time and change dialogue if it doesn’t fit the character from Forrest Whitaker, how to lead a set and be number 1 on the call sheet from Queen Latifah and Dylan O’brien, how to commit to a character's backstory from Jeffrey Wright! I’ve truly been blessed from working with such talented Veterans but also very good people!

What is it like working on a movie? Now, working on a TV Series? Do you have a preference? I’ll say movies are like summer camp, and television series are like the best days at school! Both I enjoyed but they serve different purposes! TV I know/hope once we wrap the season we will have the opportunity to come back whereas movies are like summer camp, because you’re usually on location, and live in the same complex with your castmates, so when you wrap from set you all are usually hanging out because there’s no one else there you really know! I enjoy them both for different reasons! Tell us more about your relationship with music. When did you discover your passion for it? Music is EVERYTHING! Lol. I mean it is my peace of mind, my motivation, my getaway! It can provide so many different answers to questions you never knew existed! I write stuff, and more recently I have been diving into understanding genres I didn’t grow up appreciating! Like Heavy Rock, and Jazz Funk, so I’ve really been exploring more and more, especially throughout Quarantine! In what ways do you believe music can heal someone? I think not only through the lyrics that can resonate and impact a person, and their current mental situation, but also the sounds that sonically impact someone in a way they didn’t know existed! Music taps into so many different emotional destinations that one didn’t know they needed triggered. Music can help reveal certain truths that needed to be exposed! I think any time Darkness comes to Light that’s healing! What can fans expect next? Hopefully some music!! I’ve been doing a lot of covers on line, and now I think it’s time to start releasing some originals!! I also hope to start producing my own films and diving more into the behind the scenes realm of film making!

Matt Logan(Josh Charles) Matt Logan is a NASA engineer whose wife Emma Green is commanding the first mission to Mars. He faces the already enormous challenges of dealing with the mission from home, while trying to raise their teenage daughter on his own.
Misha Popov(Mark Ivanir) Misha Popov is a Russian cosmonaut and engineer on the mission to Mars alongside Emma Green. The most experienced member of the crew, Misha doesn’t lack for ego, but secretly struggles with the personal sacrifices he made to get to space. Dr. Kwesi Weisberg-Abban(Ato Essandoh) Dr. Kwesi Weisberg-Abban is a British citizen from Ghana. Kwesi (pronounced Kway-Si) is good-humored, modest, and a man of deep faith. He’s a worldrenowned botanist and carries with him the hope of growing life on Mars. Ram Arya(Ray Panthaki) Ram Arya is an Air Force fighter pilot from India. While the other astronauts are forced to reckon with their attachments to earth and their families, Ram is quite alone in the world. Lu Wang(Vivian Wu) Lu Wang is a chemist and astronaut representing China. She is intelligent and pragmatic but below her focused exterior, she has a complex personal life. She is married with a young son. Melissa Ramirez(Monique Curnen) Melissa Ramirez is a former astronaut who is Emma’s Crew Support Astronaut. Her job is to be Emma’s Liaison To Earth. Melissa gave up her own career as an astronaut to support her special needs child, but she is there for Emma and her family. She takes care of Lex in Matt and Emma’s absence.
Alexis “Lex” Logan(Talitha Bateman) 15-years-old Lex is the daughter of astronauts Emma Green and Matt Logan. Like her father, Lex is supportive and proud of her mother’s three-year mission. She struggles with coming of age while her mother is on the mission and her father faces his own struggles.
