riving along Bellalago Drive, it’s fascinating to watch the transformation from foundation to new homes happening throughout the community. As the Paradiso neighborhood is just a few homesites shy of completion, Stillwater Landing begins its first phases of new home construction. With Lake Pointe Estates coming along, a handful of happy new homeowners have decided to put down roots in this great lakefront neighborhood. I can’t wait to see homes from the Grand Estate Collection nestled along the Lake Toho shoreline. In addition to a portfolio of classically designed homes, resident amenities and events further enhance this sought-after lifestyle. Enjoy an active lifestyle with world-class bass fishing right on Lake Toho or take pleasure in the miles of walking and nature trails interwoven throughout the community. Fun events like Ladies Craft Night and Monday Movie Madness present the perfect occasion to let loose and enjoy yourself, all just a short commute from your front door. With the next big thing on the horizon, the New Home Sales Center is a catch-all information depot for community happenings. Flaunting a new look, stop in for a visit today and let us know what you think! Bellalago has had the prestige of being presented with more than a dozen awards for designs, marketing, and community planning. More prized than the accolades are our residents, which is why we build our communities around you. From the thoughtful home designs to the resort-style amenities and amazing activities, our main focus is to provide the lifestyle you deserve.

all brings a lot of changes. The weather gets cooler, trees change colors, and one of my favorite changes, gaining that extra hour of sleep when we set our clocks back one hour! There’s also a lot of changes going on at the Amenity Centers. The Lifestyles and Maintenance Teams along with some of our vendors have been working extremely hard over the past few months upgrading and improving the facilities. Some changes you may notice right away and some will gradually take place. You will also notice changes in staff, as some regular members will head back to school and other ventures and a few new members have joined the team. 4
BELLALAGO BEACON | OCTOBER 2014
We will continue to hold staff meetings and customer service training sessions, making sure the team will be able to assist you the best way possible. As I’ve said in the past, this is an ongoing process and I thank you again for your continued patience. We strive to make your visit even more enjoyable than your last! The following details a few of the changes that have been completed or are currently taking place. There’s also a few you will need to be aware of that may affect your visit to the Amenity Centers. Because of the busy summer months, little by little, the Bellalago and Isles of Bellalago pool areas have underwent some much-needed minor
repairs. Loose and broken tiles have been fixed or replaced, chewing gum has been removed from the deck, and palm trees have been trimmed and cut. Pool lights/ heaters have also been replaced at both locations to a more efficient LED bulb, which really looks beautiful during our movie night by the pool events! Floralawn has and will continue to clear out some of the overgrown trees and bushes in and around the buildings, including the front entrance of the Bellalago Amenity Center. This stops the wild animals from hiding near the buildings. It also makes a huge difference in appearance! Resealing of the docks leading out to Lake Toho have been
Fall is an exciting time to be a part of a community where things are changing for the better. Thank you, residents, for being our best asset.
completed. This process not only provides protection of the wood, but gives it a fresh beautiful look as well. One of the major upgrades will be the bathroom renovation at the Bellalago Amenity Center. The old tiles in the showers, walls, and floors will be taken out and replaced with new ones. New counters will be installed, doors will be added to the shower stalls, and the ventilation system will be improved. Because of the dust and debris, the center will need to be closed during this big project. The Isles of Bellalago gym and pool will remain open for your use. We will keep you updated with dates and times when this will take place. To make sure you are getting the best results you seek while working out, Lifestyles Attendant Chris Bartholomew has started conducting Gym Orientations. This is for anyone starting a fitness program or anyone needing a refresher on how to use the different gym equipment. This is also great for teens because it will teach them gym etiquette and proper technique and form to help keep them safe while working out. We also want to make sure you are safe and enjoying the pools. Front-desk Supervisor Jose Chaparro and myself have completed and received our CPO (Certified Pool & Spa Operator) Licenses to make sure the pool and spa water is optimal and properly maintained. Last but not least, our Maintenance Team will continue to work in and around the Grille and prepare it for the next occupants, so they can bring you the service you expect.
Fall Family Fun Yes! The fall season has officially arrived and some of this year’s fall events are geared towards a variety of activities outside of the facility. These outdoor activities will focus on more communitywide events that allow everyone to participate. One of our “signature” events for the fall season is our Halloween event, which promises to be even scarier than last year’s (if that’s even possible)! This year’s Halloween event will have that Haunted House feel again. There’s a lot of work that goes into transforming the Bellalago Amenity Center into one frightening place to enter! Teen volunteers will help us plan and decorate inside and outside of the building and plot the eerie path brave visitors will walk. Furniture will be removed and terrifying rooms will be created. Lots of special effects will be added to give that spooky and dramatic feel. Enter if you dare!
The 2nd Annual 5K Walk/Run event, which was a huge success last year, will take place in November. Sponsors are needed for the 5K Walk/Run event. You can contact Kelsi Clonts, your Activities Coordinator, regarding sponsorship and upcoming events. Look for more information about these events and others taking place posted in the Amenity Centers and on the community channel. In closing, fall is an exciting time to be a part of a community where things are changing for the better. Thank you for being our best asset. Have a wonderful October and enjoy all the fall changes and festivities that the Lifestyles Team has planned for you!

9 Tips for Safe Trick or Treating 1
2
3
4
6
PLAN A ROUTE Adults should plan out a route in advance and check it during the daylight for such obstacles as broken sidewalks (or no sidewalks), construction timber, or other obstacles that could trip up trick or trickers. Trick or treat in familiar neighborhoods or areas. COMFORTABLE SHOES Require well-fitting shoes to be worn, preferably sneakers. While adorable as a costume accessory, kids planning to go trick or treat should wear sturdy shoes and not the princess high-heel, too-large boots, or other types of shoes often shown with costumes. Save those types of shoes for costume parties and not when a child is going trick or treating. Their feet, and most likely you who may end up carrying either the shoes or the child, will be thankful. COSTUME SENSE Avoid costumes that drag on the ground. While cute initially, costumes that drag can trip up little feet, get caught on bushes, and create a tussle that sometimes results in the child wanting to remove the costume. Remember, kids who trick or treat want to be costumed AND comfortable. With the thought of comfort, pick costumes that are bathroom-friendly as well. GOODY BAG Think practical over cute when picking a trick or treat goody bag or container. Some of the seemingly-fun ones sold in stores are heavy (before any treats are added) and others are too long and will drag on the ground or have sharp edges that could scrape against tender skin.
BELLALAGO BEACON | OCTOBER 2014
5
LIGHT UP THE NIGHT Have each child carry or wear something lit, such as a flashlight, glow bracelet or necklace, or flashing attire for visibility. Light-up shoes are also practical, and ever-sonoticeable on a dark Halloween night.
6
FLEXIBLE PROPS Only carry flexible props, such as knives, swords, ninja items, etc., that can't cause injury if a kid accidentally falls. No play prop should resemble the real item and consider leaving play weapons at home and not part of trick or treat night.
7
KEEP HYDRATED Be sure kids don't get over-heated and keep hydrated. Plan costumes according to weather and don't have your child dress in a lion costume with heavy fur and hood since temperatures could still be in the 80s in the evening.
8
WALKING Trick or treaters should walk, not run, and should never cut across lawns or driveways. Obstacles could exist that aren't readily visible in the evening.
9
DON'T TURN INTO A PUMPKIN Keep track of time and don't trick or treat after 9pm (general recommendation). That allows ample time for children to trick or treat, and by then, the excitement of the evening and the candy/treats means little ghouls will be tired, anyhow. hat an amazing summer we had! The Lifestyles Team and residents got together and had some fantastic events. Our events have been so successful because of you and the Lifestyles Team - thank you for that. During the summer vacation we planned events for all ages. From the Sunset Socials and Ladies Nights to the Ice Cream Social and Dive in Movie, we had events for everyone. We will be making some of these events monthly because they have been so well received. Please read below for more information on the events this month or flip to page 12, which includes the events this month with a short description. The monthly Craft and Laugh Ladies Night started in July and it has 8

been such a hit! Each month, 35 ladies (18 and up) get together and show off their crafting talents such as decorating wine glasses, jewelry making, and crayon art on a canvas. This month, we will another Ladies Night event! On Wednesday, October 22nd the ladies will be decorating pumpkins with beads, ribbon, paint, and much more! Please purchase tickets in advance. Tickets are $5 per lady and can be purchased at both Amenity Center locations. The Dive in Movie and Adult ONLY Movie Nights have been such a success we are going to keep it going! October’s Dive in Movies on Saturday, October 4th and Monday, October 13th will be showing child-friendly movies for all ages in the moonlight. Since it is the
month of Halloween, let’s make these movies more scary and geared toward Halloween with Hocus Pocus on October 4th and The Goonies on October 13th! At the Adult ONLY Movie Night we will be showing the classic, Ghostbusters! With Ghostbuster’s 30th anniversary, wicked green slime, and an ancient tyrant back from the dead to take over the world, how can you go wrong?! This Adult ONLY Movie Night will be Saturday, October 11th. Since it is Halloween this month, a craft with pumpkins is needed for a kid’s craft! And to top it off, let’s make it a Pumpkin Decorating Contest! Please bring your kids of all ages on Saturday, October 11th from 12pm-3pm to the Bellalago Amenity Center to decorate a
miniature pumpkin and show off their creativity. At 3pm, the Lifestyles staff will hold a contest for the most artistic pumpkin. The winner of that pumpkin will get a delicious prize. Another monthly adult-only event is our Sunset Social Latin Night! DJ Bobby will be breaking down the beats with Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, and the Top 40s. Even if you do not know how to dance, come on out and watch, sing along, meet your fellow residents, and relax. This is a FREE event held at the Sunset Grille at Bellalago. Halloween is near and our Haunted House is back! On Saturday, October 25th from 6:30pm-9:30pm come join the Lifestyles Team as we dare you to enter Bellalago’s House of Nightmares. Get ready to scream when the Grim Reaper comes to take you away, the mad scientist shows you his specimens, the butcher tries to sell you some meat, and much more. Don’t be surprised if the Grim Reaper’s hooded followers are shadows when you walk through the graveyard or the mad scientist’s specimens try to grab you. The haunted
house is open from 7:30pm-9pm. DJ Penny will be playing the beats for the evening. Come dressed in your Halloween costumes and enter yourself in the contest for best costume, scariest costume, best child’s costume (kids up to 5), and best homemade costume. Please contact me at kclonts@aamfl.com if you would like to volunteer. We will need a good handful of volunteers, so please don’t be shy and get ready to transform yourself into a creature of the dark. Last, but certainly not least, the Yard Sale is back! On Saturday, October 4th and Sunday, October 5th from 9am-2pm Bellalago will be hosting our Community Yard Sale. The Yard Sale will be open to the public with banners advertising the community event. Please contact me at kclonts@aamfl.com if you would like to participate OR come to one of the Amenity Centers to register your name and address. I would like to take a moment to thank the residents who partake in the Lifestyles events. Because of you, we are able to plan more events, increase our
event budget for next year, and of course keep me in a job! I have had an amazing time planning your events and cannot wait for the events coming up in the near future. If you have any recommendations or event ideas, please do not hesitate to contact me. I am always interested in what visions you have for events. I will try my hardest to make your ideas come to reality. Also, thank you again for purchasing tickets in advance. When the event requires you to purchase tickets, we are able plan more appropriately, which includes food, games, and entertainment. Also, because you have been purchasing tickets ahead of time, I rarely have panic attacks! Please see pages 12 and 13 for more information on October’s events and thank you again for all your support. I will see you soon!

all has to be one of my favorite times of year in Central Florida! The humidity drops, the skies become clearer, and my outdoor runs become much more enjoyable. It also means, all things pumpkin related are back in style for the three short months of the year and I get to enjoy them! From pumpkins to turkeys though, I think the Bellalago Lifestyles Team has you covered. The beauty of living in a climate like this is the fact that, within reason, you can participate in fitness related activities in or out year-round. Take advantage of these less humid days to take walks and bike rides as a family, play a pickup game of soccer or basketball at the Amenity Centers, and of course there are always the group fitness classes we offer. From boot camp to yoga and everything in between, we do offer something for all abilities and 10

fitness levels. Please remember to sign in for class as we track the numbers to help determine which to keep and which to switch out. The best part is that these are all offered at no additional cost to you! We also offer orientations to the fitness center to help you learn to use the equipment properly. Stop by or call the Bellalago Amenity Center for information on how to sign up. Many of you have been interested in doing the Bellalago 5K again this year! The good news is it’s back, but it’s a little later in the fall to hopefully help with the outdoor temperatures. On November 22nd we are taking on the turkey in the Bellalago Turkey Chase 5K and Kid’s 1-mile Fun Run. Finisher medals, goodie bags, and t-shirts will be guaranteed to all who sign up by the early bird registration date of November 1st. The Kid’s Fun Run will be a $5 donation and the 5K
will be a $10 donation ($20 with t-shirt). After November 1st, registration will be a $15 donation for the 5K, but goodie bags will not be guaranteed. T-shirts will be available for purchase the day of the event (until supplies run out). We had a great event last year and hope to increase the participation this year. It is open to the public, so come on out with your friends and family and chase down your Thanksgiving dinner. Sponsorship opportunities are also available for this, so contact Kelsi Clonts at the Bellalago Amenity Center for more information on sponsor levels. Hope to see you there!

BUNCO According to the World Bunco Association the game had seen resurgence in popularity in the United States in the early 21st century. In 2006, it was claimed that during the previous year (in the USA) "over 59 million women have played bunco and over 27 million plays regularly!" As it is played today, bunco is a social dice game involving 100% luck and no skill (there are no decisions to be made), scoring and a simple set of rules. The object of the game is to accumulate points and to roll certain combinations. The winners get prizes (provided by Lifestyles) for accomplishments such as the highest score, the lowest score, or the most buncos. If you have never played and fancy a fun afternoon with other like-minded residents, stop by the Amenity Center at 12pm every other Thursday and see what fun you could be having. BINGO Bingo is a game of chance played with randomly drawn numbers, which players match against numbers that have been pre-printed on 5x5 matrices. Many versions conclude the game when the first person achieves a specified pattern from the drawn numbers. The winner is usually required to call out the word "bingo," which alerts the other players and caller of a possible win. All wins are checked for accuracy before the win is officially confirmed at which time the prize is secured and a new game begins. Alternative methods of play try to increase participation by creating excitement. Since its invention in 1929, modern bingo has evolved into multiple variations, with each jurisdiction's gambling laws regulating how the game is played. There are also nearly unlimited patterns that may be specified for play. Some patterns only require one number to be matched up to cover-all games which award the jackpot for covering an entire card. Come out for a fun evening with your fellow residents. Who knows, you may just be a winner! FRIDAYS | OCTOBER 3RD & 17TH | NOVEMBER 7TH & 21ST
