Solivita’s Support of the HOPE Dance Benefits Veterans By Madalyn & Charlie Phillips HOPE Club Once again, the annual HOPE Dance was a night to remember with the phenomenal non-stop music provided by the very talented singer and dance instructor, Louis Del Prete, from Long Island. Thank you to all HOPE Club members for all your hard work and dedication. You were awesome! We’d also like to extend a very special thank you to Solivita, for your loyal support and generosity to the Fisher House, Tampa. The donations go towards providing comforts for the families of military and veteran patients at the James A. Haley, VA Hospital. The Fisher House has private bedrooms and baths and families share a common kitchen, laundry facilities, a dining room and living room. You can learn more about the Fisher House at www. fisherhouse.org. Save the date for next year’s dance on January 20, 2018. You won’t want to miss this fabulous event!

A Small Group of Women Turned a Question Into a Resource Center “Where can I find a reliable handyman to do odd jobs?” That was the question and the answer came in the form of an office with a computer, phone, printer, resource materials, CERT equipment, and Meals on Wheels information and delivery. Resident to Resident, also known as “R2R,” is located on the second floor over the Bistro near the Lifestyles Office. Due to the efforts of some great volunteers, R2R will be ready to offer its services to Solivita residents beginning Monday, March 6th from 10am-12pm. That’s the date for a “soft opening,” so come and have a snack and see what is available to you - resident to resident.

March, right on schedule. We finished the third round of trimming and weeding. Inspections of the irrigation systems continued as well as repairs to spray heads and other sprinkler system components. We’ve also adjusted the heads to correct spray patterns. Lawn mowing continued per the winter bi-weekly schedule. This will continue through March. As you may have noticed, we are trimming the Crape Myrtles a little differently this year, removing more than usual. This is to remove the moss inundating the trees and reduce the overall height of some that are coming in contact with the surrounding landscape.
What’s Ahead in March? This month we’ll continue trimming the Crape Myrtles. (Ever count the number of these trees in Solivita? You see why pruning them is a two-month process!) March is also the month for new spring annuals, so watch for bright colors coming to a flower bed near you!
Commercial & Residential Training Classes Quality care of Solivita’s grounds and landscaping requires welltrained ground crews and technicians. In October’s “Coffee Talk” presentation, I mentioned the priority we give to employee training. In late January, 81 Floralawn employees received Floralawn University training in: •
Herbicide mixing, laws and storage
•
Diseased plant identification
•
Pruning techniques
•
Mower operation
•
Plant installation
•
Mulching
•
Driving
Knowing that some Solivita residents also enjoy information on these subjects, we plan to offer classes specifically for this
