2015 Brings Change & Growth

W Jannell McDonald Community Manager 321-332-1871 jmcdonald@aamfl.com

ith every passing year we take the time to reflect on the goals of the previous years and take a look at what has been accomplished. 2014 brought us the new Captiva Club, a place that brings us so many opportunities for activities, new clubs, and events like shows and dinner dances. Tennis courts, pickleball courts, a gym, and outdoor rec areas were also completed rounding out the lifestyle experience. This growth also brought new roads, beautifully planned common areas, and new residents. 2015 will bring even more new opportunities as we continue to grow. Looking forward, you will see changes in the structure of the Advisory Committees as we redefine their roles. There will be opportunities to join committees such as maintenance and landscaping that will help be the eyes and ears of the community and will report to the main advisory committee.

You will see articles and email blasts with information on how the work order process will proceed. We will bring you information on the contracted scope of work, schedules for pest control treatments, fertilization applications, tree trimming, and mulching. In the first quarter, our Vitalia family will be growing - you will see the addition of an Onsite Maintenance Engineer! The Maintenance Engineer will be able to respond quickly to the needs of the community and will be able to assist the Lifestyles department with both the building upkeep and the common area concerns. From all of us at AAM, LLC and the Captiva Club, Happy New Year!

Lifestyles Update

H

appy New Year! I hope your holidays were everything you dreamed of and I wish you much happiness, joy, and good health for 2015! I want to take this opportunity to share with you some wonderful changes and event ideas that we are working on for this New Year.

Lisa Naylor Lifestyles Director lnaylor@aamfl.com

A few recent additions include construction on the Captiva Club Putting Green! As it emerges, we will be planning a Grand Opening Day with putting instructors and more. Also, The Seashell now has furniture so you can enjoy those cool winter sunsets as you stay warm by the fire pits. You may reserve The Seashell for your next club event or for a private family gathering. A brand new club, the Seashell Sunset Happy Hour Club will now be meeting every Wednesday evening! Our “Meet Your Manager Coffee Talk” format will be changing this year. Your property manager, Jannell McDonald, will moderate some of the Coffee Talks with a different topic each time for discussions. The other monthly meetings will be moderated by the Lifestyles Department. We plan to bring you some fun and informative topics, as well as opportunities to meet and bond with your neighbors. We are planning a Speaker Series where you will learn about local events, classes, offerings, and information on health issues, retirement funds, etc. We are also planning a Community Connection Series where you can participate in bird watching events, follow a master gardener around the community, learn some dog training tips, or learn how to linedance, and more. We have lots of ideas and are always open to your suggestions. Our Lifestyles Team is working hard on several new, fresh ideas and processes to help make your Captiva Club experience a super one! Some Lifestyles event ideas we are working on for 2015 include Karaoke Nights, Cooking Demo Events, Vitalia Follies, Fitness Challenges, Destination Bus Trips, Tennis/Pickleball/Bocce Tournament Days, local outings including Golf Tournaments and Spring Training Day. All of

these will be in addition to a new Show Lineup, Holiday Parties, and Dance Nights! I invite you to stop in my office with your ideas and suggestions anytime. We are on the search for a few new Social Committee Members; if you would like to volunteer to help plan and coordinate our Lifestyles events, please stop by the reception desk for an application. Applications must be submitted by Monday, February 2nd. The new volunteers will be inducted in March. We are always looking for volunteers that would like to be involved with Lifestyles events to help set-up, decorate, bake, clean up, or whatever the need may be. If you would like to get plugged in and involved with the Captiva Club social events, please stop by and see me.

Lifestyles Staff Focus: Bette McNally Bette was born near Chicago, IL. She lived many years in in Pittsburgh, PA until settling in Port St. Lucie 28 years ago. Bette has two children - her daughter Jaimie (the oldest) and her son Daniel. Her mother and children all live here in Port St. Lucie. Bette takes pride in the fact that in today’s transient society she was fortunate in being able to raise her children surrounded by their grandparents that lived close by. Bette also has two other important girls in her life that live with her - Mo who is a Black Lab mix and Bella a Basenji Whippet mix. They are her little loves. Like Debbie, Bette has been an animal lover all of her life. Bette made a pact with Debbie that if one of them wins the lotto, they would open some kind of shelter or dog related rescue together. Bette enjoys pickleball, crafting, and anything animal related.

Vitalia Health & Fitness Challenge

Katie Chubb Personal Trainer

personaltrainerkatie@ gmail.com

Lifestyles has teamed up with the Fitness Center to offer you something new and exciting starting in February. We will be hosting the Vitalia Health and Fitness Challenge, February 1st through March 31st. It is not a diet program or a body building program. It is a program designed to help the Vitalia community become more active and have better wellness awareness, all while having a bit of fun competition. It will also be a great time for new residents to come and enjoy our fantastic classes or sign up with a personal trainer. This could be the start for a new healthier you. There will be no cost for the program and you can win some amazing prizes! We will be having Seminars about nutrition and fitness. We will also be hosting a cooking class with a professional chef who has lost over 50lbs eating healthy and exercising with a Personal Trainer. At Vitalia we are not just focusing on the exercise, but also helping you get some guidance and advice with the nutritional aspect. There will be an exercise seminar with our two personal trainers to see some of their success stories with client’s weight loss. They will also offer some tips and tricks on how to succeed in the competition.

At Vitalia we understand some of you do not wish for your weight to be published. Participants will be assigned a randomly selected number for recording purposes. In order to keep it a competitive environment, scores will be posted in the reception area each week, but names will not be released. If a participant tells others what their number is, it is their decision to do so. You will be assigned points for each workout you complete while in the gym, pool, or fitness studio. You will also get points for loosing, maintaining or in some cases, gaining weight. The personal trainers will set you up with a goal and we will calculate your points at weigh in each week. We will go into the point system in greater detail at our Kick-Off Seminar Friday, January 30th at 9am in the Shoreside Aerobics Studio. To participate in this fun challenge, please sign up at the reception desk by leaving your name, phone number, and email address. Then be ready to sign up on January 30th to get started on the “new you” for the “new year!” Any changes or information will be sent out via eblasts and/or during the Coffee Talks.

"My darling Cecilia, if you’re reading this, then I’ve died." Imagine that your husband wrote you a letter, to be opened after his death. Imagine, too, that the letter contains his deepest, darkest secret—something with the potential to destroy not just the life you built together, but the lives of others as well. Imagine, then, that you stumble across that letter while your husband is still very much alive. Cecilia Fitzpatrick has achieved it all—she’s an incredibly successful businesswoman, a pillar of her small community, and a devoted wife and mother. Her life is as orderly and spotless as her home. But that letter is about to change everything, and not just for her: Rachel and Tess barely know Cecilia— or each other—but they too are about to feel the earthshattering repercussions of her husband’s secret. Mahjong Club Please contact Shelley Deixler at shell842@gmail.com for more information and days/times that the club meets. MALKA'S MAHJONG CORNER - ASK THE EXPERT Q: Must exposures be in card order? A: Experienced players don't need to see exposures to be shown in card order. It's standard practice to put exposures in order made ( first one at player's left, next one to the right of that one, and so on), with spaces between each exposed grouping. In fact, there is a good defensive reason for not putting exposures in card order; while a newbie might wish to have the visual hint, the player who has exposed part of her hand wishes her opponents won't figure out exactly what hand she is making. Sometimes two exposures can be ambiguous and that is an important part of the game. So newbie players just have to "put up" with the fact that exposures are displayed in chronological order rather than card order. Upon completion of the hand (having won), however, it is standard practice to organize the groupings in card order to aid the others in reading your winning hand.

Men's Golf Mondays

Welcome Committee

Vitalia Voice Volunteers

Sunday, January 11th | 10am-11:30am Captiva Club Grand Treasure Ballroom

The Welcome Committee would like to invite all new residents that closed between October 1, 2014 and December 31, 2014 to a Meet & Greet. The members of the Welcome Committee will provide coffee, bottled water, bakery items, and fruit. We will be available to answer questions you may have regarding your new neighborhood, such as restaurants, theaters, shopping, events, clubs, and activities. RSVP to Joanne at jorobou@gmail.com or Kathy at mirage0204@htcplus.net, no later than Monday, January 5th. We’re looking forward to meeting you! At the start of our new year, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our neighbors for helping us welcome new residents. Some welcome new residents with an email, some with a phone call, others have taken it upon themselves to stop by and say hi, and some have even had cookouts and organized block parties. You are all truly exceptional volunteers.

A special thank you to all the volunteers who stuff, deliver, and hang the newsletters on each door whether in rain or heat, they brave the weather, traffic, and sand hill cranes to make sure we all receive the monthly newsletter. In 2015 and beyond, we will be looking for more volunteers to welcome new residents and deliver the newsletters, especially in the new sections, which are just now opening up. Thanks to all of you who have spent your valuable time helping our community grow in 2014!
