all is setting in at Vitalia at Tradition from the weather to the lifestyle! With a resident activities calendar showing off some fun seasonal festivities like a pumpkin carving contest and Halloween party, this month is sure to be spooktacular to say the least! With about a dozen new families moving into the neighborhood each month, resident events are a great way to mix and mingle with all the new faces. We can’t forget about the infamous happy hour events. Without fail, Seashell Sunset Happy Hours and Tiki Bar Sundays are always the talk of the town and a 100% good time! We can always tell when summer comes to an end because the Vitalia at Tradition snowbirds come back home! Brutal predictions for the upcoming winter season are calling for even worse conditions than last year’s blanket of snow that covered most of the Midwest and Northeast states. Now that’s just cold in every sense of the word! Especially considering that around here sunny and 75 is a way of life, making every day a great day to get out and enjoy this sprawling active adult community. A community rich

with world-class amenities and resident favorites like the pickleball courts and the Sunset Beach Pool, Vitalia at Tradition is a top-notch community that residents can be proud to call home. This is why we have opened up our gates, inviting folks to come test-drive the lifestyle. A great experience and a unique way to share with friends and family back home how things are done down here, Discovery Days offer the ultimate all-encompassing community tour. Dozens of folks have already had the pleasure of trying out this new program so stop by the New Home Sales Center and let us know if you have a friend in mind. In these few short months, we have had the great fortune to watch Vitalia at Tradition grow to all new heights. With new homes sprouting up across the neighborhood and visitors coming through the New Home Sales Centers doors wanting to see what all the buzz is about, the future of this 55-plus community is bright and we are thrilled about what’s to come.

MISPRINT CORRECTIONS There were two mistakes in the September edition of the Vitalia Voice. In the Birthday section, Ms. Prudhom’s last name was spelled incorrectly. We would like to apologize and say a big Happy Belated Birthday to LuAnn Prudhom! She celebrated her birthday on September 10th. In the Anniversary section Mr. Farrone was incorrectly listed with Julieanne Lincoln. We are very sorry to both couples for the misprint. Doug Farrone and his wife Vicki Cantor celebrated their anniversary back on June 5th. Julieanne Lincoln and her husband Douglas Lincoln celebrated their anniversary on September 3rd. We hope you both had wonderful anniversary celebrations! October 2015 | Vitalia Voice   3

Happy October Vitalia!

B

elow is a great article about taking care of your air conditioner from the Lindstrom Air Conditioning Blog* this past July.

THE CONSEQUENCES OF NOT CHANGING A DIRTY AIR FILTER Tyler Heel Community Manager theel@ evergreen-lm.com 877-221-6919

Life can be hectic, making it easy to forget small maintenance tasks around the home. Unfortunately, these small maintenance tasks that you’re forgetting could end up causing you more headaches in the future. One maintenance task you want to make sure you don’t miss is changing your dirty air filter in your air conditioner or furnace. Here are a few headaches that a dirty air filter may cause: 1. Dirty air. If your filter is dirty your whole home is getting dirty air blown back into it. 2. Reduced airflow. If the internal airflow amount isn’t being met then the air conditioning unit may malfunction. 3. Increased energy bills. Since your air conditioning unit has to work much harder to cool your Florida home, it uses more energy, causing higher energy bills. 4. Frozen coils. A dirty filter allows dirt to

4   Vitalia Voice | October 2015

build up on your coils, causing your system to be unable to transfer heat as effectively, in turn causing your coils to freeze over. A simple maintenance task like changing your air filter is one of the most important tasks that should be done to properly take care of your heating and cooling system. An HVAC filter should be replaced every 1-3 months depending on usage. Having your HVAC system put on a yearly schedule saves time and money. Regular maintenance will pay for itself in lower repair costs and more efficient operation. *Source: www.lindstromair.com/media/entry/theconsequences-of-not-changing-a-dirty-air-filter

All work is done on the mat either seated or lying down and may utilize the wall.

MALKA'S MAHJONG CORNER - ASK THE EXPERT Q: Is there a special prohibition against, or penalty for, throwing the winning tile? A: No. No “hot wall,” “cold wall,” or “pay for the party.” The official rules do not penalize throwing into exposures. The

out & about Club / Group winning tile always pays twice what the other two non-winners pay the winner. Groups, adopt a “table rule” to stipulate a penalty for discarding the winning tile during the final stage of a hand. Invariably, these table rules are called “cold wall” or “hot wall” or “paying for the party.” Other than the discarder double payment, the NMJL rules do not stipulate any prohibition against, nor penalty for, throwing the winning tile under any circumstances.
