GENERAL MANAGER’S MESSAGE
Sedi Halvorson GENERAL MANAGER July always seems to go way too fast here at Oxbow. We had some of the best weather this past month that I can recall, with the wind down and temperatures up. I hope everyone was able to get out and enjoy some time by the pool and on the golf course, which is in magnificent shape! As we turn to August, please read through your newsletter this month, as we have so much going on throughout the month for you. I know many of our members begin thinking about back to school this time of year, but we still have lots of fun left yet this summer for all members! Please take time to review the calendar in the newsletter, so that you are able to fully enjoy all that we have to offer. Additionally, please remember to check out upcoming events online at our revamped website (oxbowcc.com), as well as the Oxbow mobile app. Club Championship I briefly want to touch on the Club Championship, as this is a big event for clubs. Again, we have multiple divisions, including the championship division, men’s and women’s divisions, senior division, and junior division. The format for each division can be found later in the newsletter. I would encourage anyone who golfs to enter, as it is a great competition for those who want to test their individual skills. You can get more information and register by contacting the golf shop. They would love to assist as we work to build this event back up to the level it once was. Membership We have had a good year for membership, though not as strong as years past, as we continue to work to finish golf course construction. The Board has approved a great promotion for prospective members that may be interested in membership, but either think it is too late to join this year, or are wanting to “try it out” to see what membership is like. This is truly a great opportunity for prospective members to see what life as an Oxbow member is all about. Please refer this promotion to anyone you think may benefit from a trial membership at Oxbow! More details can be found on Page 4.

Golf Course Update All the playable turf has been seeded on the north nine holes. This is a huge milestone for the club, as now all nine new holes are somewhere in the “grow-in” phase. There is still much work to do, as the grow in crews work to get all of the holes in playable shape throughout the rest of this year. However, it is great to be able to report to you that after all this project has entailed, we are starting to be able to see the finish line! We are hopeful for great grass growing weather over the next couple of months, and a winter with lots of snow cover!

GENERAL MANAGER’S MESSAGE
Sedi HalvorsoN (continued) Outside Golf Events Lastly, if you are one of our members who enjoys playing early in the week, please always check with the golf shop or online/mobile app tee sheet for availability on Mondays and Tuesdays. Although we typically have outside golf events on these days, some of them are smaller in size, or some Tuesdays we don’t have an event at all. Do not assume you can’t get on the course these days. Some of our events are large in size and take the whole course for the afternoon, but others are not. Sometimes the tee sheet is open in the morning on Tuesdays, as well as midafternoon depending on the size of the event. For most events, we know about five days ahead of time the final size of the event, and when we can open up the sheet for our members. As always, if we can get you on the course, we will! Thank you to all for a great month of July. August promises to be great fun as well. I am truly excited about all of the upcoming events and activities offered to you, at YOUR club! Sedi

EVENT UPDATE
Alison molony Director of membership & events And just like that, we are entering the LAST month of summer! I think that many of us fall victim to believing that summer is basically over once August hits. Our attention shifts to back-to-school shopping and planning for fall. I want to encourage you to ditch that mentality and soak up every ounce of summer we have left! Spend an afternoon relaxing at the pool or sneak out of the office early to hit the driving range. I think that August brings some of the most beautiful weather in North Dakota—take advantage of it! In July, we hosted a few WONDERFUL first-time events at the club. An ongoing effort of myself and the management team is to continue to add value to your Country Club membership by increasing our event programming. Here’s a rundown of everything we brought NEW to the month of July:
4th of July Celebration—We have received an overwhelming positive response from our members about this event. I think it’s here to stay! We put a lot of thought and effort into creating a day that you and your family can look forward to all year long. THANK YOU to member Cam Knutson and Memory Fireworks for putting on a fantastic fireworks show. We have heard from many members that it was the best fireworks show they have ever seen! MARK YOUR CALENDARS NOW and plan on spending the next 4th of July at YOUR club!
AUGUST 2018
Americana Dinner—In my five seasons at Oxbow, this is the first time we have held a specialty dinner smack dab in the middle of summer. Chef Scott had a lot of fun exploring the Americana theme with his menu and beverage selection. The picnic-inspired décor was a perfect complement to this evening of American cuisine!

EVENT UPDATE
alison molony (continued) Rock Star Camp—I had the privilege of working with a few of our younger members at our very first ROCK STAR CAMP! The kids learned three songs: Footloose, Shut Up & Dance With Me, and Can’t Stop The Feeling. On the last day of camp, the future rock stars got to perform a special concert complete with costumes, props, choreography, and a LIVE BAND. I had so much fun and am glad I got to spend time sharing music—a passion of mine— with the kids.
Oxbow Iron Chef Camp—Kids also got a chance to put their culinary skills to the test during Oxbow Iron Chef Camp. Check out Chef Scott’s page to hear more about this camp!
Hollie grande Catering event coordinator If you are in wedding planning mode, or if you are hoping someone gets down on one knee, the one thing that can make or break your wedding are the vendors you choose. Of course, you’re going to want the best of everything for your big day, but most of us don’t have a budget that will allow it. So, start by prioritizing what is most important to you on your wedding day. If the music is really important, splurge for a great band or perfect DJ; if the centerpieces are most important to you, go with a great florist. I always recommend asking yourself, “What do I want my guests to remember?”

Believe it or not, Once you’re narrowing down your favorites, be sure to be honest about what your we are already starting budget is. Many will be willing to work with you to get you the most bang for your to get Holiday Party buck, but they need to know what they have to work with. After the wedding, the bookings! Please biggest compliment any wedding vendor can get is a referral or contact Hollie to get recommendation. Word of mouth is the most trusted form of advertising, and your date on the any vendor would love to hear that they did such a good job that you trust them books: with your friends. I would be happy to recommend some of my favorite vendors hollie@oxbowcc.com. for any budget!

FOOD AND BEVERAGE
scott motschenbacher EXECUTIVE CHEF Hello, Oxbow!! Wow!! This summer is flying by! We had a lot of fun events in July. Most notably, for me, was the first ever Oxbow Iron Chef kid’s camp. The first day, we all made pizza from scratch. There was a lot of creativity when it came to toppings and shapes of the pizzas. There was a unicorn shaped pizza and a pizza topped with cheese and carrots. Then the kids got to make ice cream from scratch with our amazing baker, Suzanne. One day we talked about pollinators and why they’re so important to our food systems. There were a few of the kids that were not too impressed when they found out about all the kinds of food—including m&ms!!—that we wouldn’t have without pollinators around. The final day, they all got to make and decorate cookies. Myself and Alison judged the competition. It was pretty difficult to come to a decision, but in the end, Ava Cooper had the best decorated cookie—a big shout out to her! August is shaping up to be a pretty fun month as well. Be sure to download and check out the new Oxbow app. You will be able to access pretty much any information regarding YOUR club. You can even order food from the app. What a time to be alive!!! Instead of a recipe this month, I want to talk a bit about pollinators. There wouldn’t BEE too many recipes without them. As a chef, that is a sad state of affairs. There are over 1300 plants that need pollinators to survive and thrive. Bee numbers are in huge decline. The rusty patched bumble bee is now on the endangered species list. It once populated 28 states and it now only occupies 13 according to Time Magazine. Some experts argue that the extinction of bees would likely spell the end of humanity. This seems a bit dark to me, so I want to stay positive. Just try and keep all this in mind when enjoying your summer outdoors. That little bee that is buzzing around you is just in search of something yummy to eat. They don’t want to hurt you, they just want to help you!
PAGE 8
AUGUST 2018
In the off season, I will be campaigning for Oxbow to get a bee colony and garden for next season. The bees will support the garden and the garden will support the bees!! If I am able to start up an Oxbow bee colony, we could have some of the freshest produce to work with. Being a bit of a capitalist, I think that it’s a win. Not only could we have great produce and honey, but we could also make some money off the little guys.

July was another great month for golf at Oxbow Country Club. We kicked things off with the 4th of July tournament and it was a great event! Congratulations to Leo and Tammy Worner on their victory. Their win earned them a spot in the Derby shootout. Derby weekend was another success and a great time had by all. The Derby couples event was won by Matt & Sarah Mueller, Ryan & Brittany Grussing, and Jake Whiting & Carly Beals. Roger Campbell and Perry Piatz walked away as champions of the 2018 Derby. Congratulations to the winners and a big THANK YOU to all who participated. We also have some exciting events coming up for August. The ParentChild tourney is coming up on August 12th and our Club Championship August 18th and 19th. If you are interested in these events, please contact the golf shop. We are looking forward to these events and seeing you at the club! As always, our golf shop is stocked with the latest in equipment and apparel. We are getting new lines in Apparel, so come and check it out!

NEWS FROM THE FAIRWAY
DAVID WOOD SUPERINTENDENT With the seeding of hole two finished this past week, a letter of substantial completion was issued to Oxbow from Landscapes Unlimited for construction of phase two. This milestone is great news as we now turn our focus away from construction toward growin of the final nine golf holes. Germination of the areas seeded last week will be ongoing through the first week of August. This is an ideal time of the year to establish the new grasses. With approximately 10 weeks of good growing conditions remaining this season, there should be an adequate amount of time for the plants to mature before the winter. Bruce Charlton, Gary Killebrew, and I have created a final construction punch list of items for Landscapes Unlimited to address and repair before their construction team leaves. These items are to be worked on and completed in the next 30 days.

With more play on the golf course in the last 60 days, we are seeing some wear in certain areas. Please fill your divots on all the tees and fairway. The bottles on the golf carts can be used on the tees as well. Please keep all golf carts out of the native areas, as these grasses are not tolerant to wear. See you on the course, David Wood PAGE 15
EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT 1975
Danny sam, assistant golf professional This month, we are happy to spotlight Danny Sam in the Golf Shop. Danny is one of our Assistant Golf Professionals, and is currently in Level One of the PGA PGM program. What exactly does it take to become a PGA Class A Professional? “On average, the program takes 3-5 years to complete, plus you must work for 36 months under a current Golf Professional,” Danny says. To begin the program, Danny had to complete a Qualifying Level, which includes a Player’s Ability component, as well as exams regarding the History of Golf and Rules. After completing the Qualifying Level, an individual must complete three levels of seminars, book work, and testing. Once completing all three levels, Danny will proudly hold the title of PGA Class A Professional. “My goal is to be a Head Golf Professional, wherever that takes me.”
Danny grew up in Moorhead and has been playing golf since he was in elementary school, and played for Valley City State University. Being a sports enthusiast, he also played soccer and tennis throughout high school. Prior to coming to Oxbow, Danny worked at Meadows Golf Course for 2 1/2 years. It was here that Danny was first inspired to become a Golf Pro. “Corey Herlickson helped me get started in the program, and is a great resource for me as I am working toward completion.” At Oxbow, Danny is the immediate supervisor for the outside service staff, and also heads the PGA Jr. League. What does he like best about working at Oxbow? “I love the course and can’t wait to see the finished product. I have also enjoyed getting to know the members.”
