GENERAL MANAGER’S MESSAGE
Sedi Halvorson GENERAL MANAGER It is hard to believe it is already September. August went out with a bang (of hail), as many of you experienced or noticed. School has started, football is back, and fall will be here before we know it. While many associate September with the end of summer, September actually provides some of the best golfing weather of the year! We hope you have the opportunity to keep golfing and enjoying the club! Also, we have many of our traditional favorite fall events coming up, as well as some fun new events for all ages. There are still so many great events for everyone to enjoy! The golf course and the clubhouse took some hits during the hail storm last week. David and his team are doing a wonderful job of getting everything back to normal as quickly as possible. I want to thank the volunteers who came out to assist with the cleanup on the lower holes. Those members were Ralph Botnen, Sally McCravey, Rock Messerschmidt, Jeff Kruger, Mike Podolak, and Chuck Townsend. Thank you all for your help. The clubhouse only sustained roof damage. Our insurance company will be out next week to evaluate, and repairs will begin shortly after. All in all, we were pretty lucky. Your Oxbow Team This is the time of year when we say goodbye to many of our teammates for the season, as many go back to school, whether it be attending high school or college, or teaching. I want to thank all of our teammates for doing such a tremendous job this summer. For those who have departed for the year, we wish them much success, and hope to see many again next summer.

New Golf Holes All grass has been planted, and we are firmly in the “grow-in” phase of Phase 2. The construction crews departed in August, and the remaining team from Landscapes Unlimited is focused on growing grass, as well as completing some punch list items. We still have a couple of good months of growing grass, and we are of course hopeful for a long fall season. Also, please note that David will be giving a tour of the holes later this month. Overall, the north holes came through the severe weather very well, but still added some work to the grow-in crew to redo. However, we are confident these issues can be solved.

GENERAL MANAGER’S MESSAGE
Sedi HalvorsoN (continued) September Hours With the later sunrise and earlier sunsets, our golf course and clubhouse opening times move up just a bit during the month of September. Starting Tuesday, September 4th, the golf course tee sheet begins at 9am during the week (noon on Mondays), and 8am on weekends. Please refer to Page 1 of this newsletter for Golf Shop and Restaurant hours. September is a great month here at your club, and I hope everyone is able to come out and have fun this month, even as your busy schedules get even busier. Please look through all of the fun events coming up over the next couple of months, and be sure to RSVP if you plan on attending. The season is a long way from over, and we hope to see you lots, at YOUR club!

LATE SEASON MEMBERSHIP PREVIEW
Help us spread the word about our Late Season Membership Promotion, now extended through October!

EVENT UPDATE
Alison molony Director of membership & events TRIAL MEMBERSHIP—On the previous page, you’ll notice details regarding our late season membership promotion. We have decided to extend the preview membership through October, and we still have a few spots left! Do you have any friends or family members who are interested in membership, but are hesitant to take the final leap? This is the PERFECT opportunity for them to try it out without making a full yearly commitment. We experienced a high conversion rate from trial members to full members because of this promotion last year. We believe it is a strong recruitment tool and excellent opportunity to grow membership. OFF-SEASON EVENT SCHEDULE - In my 4 1/2 years with Oxbow, the “off-season” has transitioned from a relatively slow time of year to a full-fledged season in itself! Personally, I love working with the rest of the management team to create ways to keep our membership engaged all year long. Stay tuned for dates for your favorite traditional events , as well as the addition of new activities to the calendar. The full schedule through the end of the year will be available soon.

LADIES’ BUS TRIP—Once a year, I get the pleasure of acting as a tour guide for the Oxbow Ladies’ Bus Trip. We had record attendance for our August trip to Grand Falls Casino & Resort in Larchwood, IA (right outside of Sioux Falls, SD). The ladies had the option of golfing either one or two rounds. Ladies who didn’t golf both rounds got a chance to enjoy amenities at the resort including the spa, casino, and outdoor pool. This year’s trip was made exceptionally special by Alex Bindas’s HOLE-IN-ONE on Hole 11. Congratulations, Alex, on your first hole-in-one!!!

EVENT UPDATE
Hollie grande Catering event coordinator The trees are just starting to turn color, but soon it will be white outside and we’ll be worried about getting Christmas lights up. That makes NOW the perfect time to start thinking about those Holiday parties. We have a great holiday party menu, featuring Prime Rib Canapes with Caramelized Onions, Turkey with Stuffing, and even a side dish of Green Bean Casserole! It has been a great year, and what better way to thank your staff than a party to bring everyone together? If you’re looking to add entertainment to your event, you could have a casino night or host trivia. If you’re really adventurous and young at heart, bring in a bouncy house and invite the whole family. Remember, our ballroom can hold up to 300 guests! Of course, December can be a very busy time of the year; perhaps a November ‘Thankful’ party or a January ‘Kick-Off-To-A-Great-Year” party would better fit your business.

scott motschenbacher EXECUTIVE CHEF August was quite a month for the culinary department! Many weddings and outside golf events, as well as the usual busy days at the pool and on the course made the month fly by for us! We are excited for the month of September, which allows us to put more focus on member events and activities, as well as your dining experience here at the club. We have some neat events coming up, including our Farm to Fairway dinner, which I am truly excited about presenting to you. I think we still have a few spots open, so you still have a chance to sign up! We will also begin planning out our fall and winter member dining menus, which is a fun process involving our team here, as well as our house and social committee. We will, of course, be bringing back many of your off-season favorites, as well as new items that we have been thinking about through the season. The goal of the culinary department is to have your club be your first place you think of when dining out. We will also be doing weekly Chef creations to keep your dining experience fresh throughout the winter months. I am excited to start our wine dinners again, as well as cooking classes and many other fun offseason events. On a personal note, September 2nd marks my two-year anniversary as your Chef. I never anticipated working at Oxbow would turn in to my passion. I have had some of the greatest experiences of my career here, and it has been an honor to cook for some of the nicest, most caring people I have ever come across. All of our success has been a team effort. I can’t thank our culinary team, past and present, for the support and hard work they have given to me and the club. So thank you to all of you for your continued support of our culinary program at Oxbow! It has been a great two years, and I look forward to many more years as your Chef. SEPTEMBER 2018

NEWS FROM THE FAIRWAY
DAVID WOOD SUPERINTENDENT Phase two golf course construction is coming along very well. The new grass is transitioning from seedlings to turf. Multiple leafed plants are being mowed and maturing into a dense grass canopy. Areas that were thin have been over-seeded and are filling in bare spots. Some timely rains have helped non-irrigated native fescue areas. Many of the holes planted in early August are in better condition than areas planted in July that received no rainfall. The recent hail storm that came through Oxbow was very destructive, dropping hail the size of golf balls. The north holes, 9-17, were Hail damage on 18 green damaged more than the south holes. We were able to roll out most of the indents on the greens. The bruising/ ball marks will take some time to heal. I expect it to take about two weeks for all the marks to recover. Tree damage ranges from 50% to 95% de-foliation. Several large branches and the majority of the tree next to 9 green will have to be removed. Cleanup will continue as needed.
THANK YOU
As construction continues, I remind you that we are not allowing cart or foot traffic on the new holes during this critical phase of grow-in. I will be offering a guided tour of the new holes on Sunday, September 16th at 3:30PM for those who are interested in seeing the progress.
SEPTEMBER 2018
It is also imperative that people do not drive on the ring levy. We have noticed tire tracks in certain areas. The Army Corps of engineers WILL NOT SIGN OFF ON THE LEVY if there is damage done. We are looking for staff members to help us out in the fall and into next year. If you know of someone that may be looking for part-time or full-time hours, please pass along our information. See you on the course. David Wood PAGE 15

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT 1975
COLE JUNGBERG BANQUET CAPTAIN Our September employee spotlight is Cole Jungberg, Oxbow’s Banquet Captain. Originally from Bakke, Cole grew up attending Kindred Public School and was an Oxbow member long before he ever worked at the club. He has fond memories of spending his summer vacations at the Oxbow pool. “I might have given a few lifeguards a hard time back when I was in elementary school!” Cole says. After graduating from Kindred High School, Cole attended NDSU for Hospitality and Tourism Management . At NDSU, he got a well-rounded education in food and beverage service, hotel management, event planning, and club management. In order to graduate, Cole had to partake in a summer internship to gain experience in hospitality. Last summer, Cole interned at Oxbow, focusing mostly on banquet operations. He was quickly promoted to Banquet Captain, and now oversees all events that take place in what has become known as “Cole’s Ballroom.” Cole oversees all aspects of banquet event service, from setting the ballroom to managing all banquet staff on event days. He is also the closing manager and makes sure our wedding clients are well taken care of right up until their dance ends at midnight. Cole enjoys working with all of our outside event clients, from golf tournament organizers to mothers-of-the-bride. You might have seen Cole in action if you have hosted an event at Oxbow. Cole also helps out for larger member events like The Derby and Battle At The Bow.
When he’s not working, Cole enjoys decorating his apartment, playing with puppies, and sipping wine. Thank you, Cole, for everything you do for our Oxbow banquet clients!

While working at Oxbow, Cole has discovered a passion for banquets and hopes to continue working in this field. His ultimate goal is to work as a Director of Banquet Operations for a large hotel with multiple ballrooms. “I would love to work at a luxury hotel in a large market.”
