To our Friends, Family, Community, Oxbow Staff, and Supporters: There is no way that we can say thank you enough for all your love, friendship, and offers of help and assistance, as well as the generous support you all have showed us throughout the past year. The benefit was a GREAT occasion and so much fun -- it was really nice to see everyone. I know that it totally made Jeff’s day. It has been a long time since he has been out of a hospital setting and to see so many people; it brought many tears of happiness to his eyes. We are very fortunate to have such a great group friends, family, and a wonderful community in our lives. You all mean a lot to us and for this we cannot say Thank You enough! We would also like to thank Wendy Frappier, Bill Short, Brenda and Rock Messerschmidt, and the Oxbow staff for organizing the benefit, You all went above and beyond to help us. Thank you, Jeff and Cindy Fisher PAGE 1

GENERAL MANAGER’S MESSAGE

SEDI HALVORSON GENERAL MANAGER

Welcome to spring at Oxbow! The snow is melting, and hopefully we will be golfing and enjoying warmer weather soon. Years like this one and last remind us how lucky we were from 2015 – 2017 when the course opened in the last part of March. Our average opening date is around April 8th of each year. Although we are unlikely to hit that date this year, I hope that we will be open for play by mid-month. Membership: Although the start to spring has not been ideal, we continue to receive numerous inquiries regarding membership at Oxbow. I cannot recall a year in my time here where there has been so much interest in your club. Although not everyone who expresses interest to us will join, it is extremely encouraging to see the amount of people contacting us wanting to know more. As always, we encourage all of our members to assist in the recruitment of new members to your club, and we hope that you are excited to get more friends and colleagues to join. You can always reach out to Alison or me at any time so we can assist with information or contact a prospective member. Annual Meeting: As announced in earlier correspondence, the Annual Meeting is POSTPONED. We will announce a new date as soon as possible. All members are invited to attend, as we review 2018, and talk about our upcoming year. We will also have our Board of Directors election that evening, for certificate holding members to choose two new board members. Those currently nominated are: • Jack Easton • Jim Nyhof • Craig Rise We invite everyone to join us! I would like to thank Kevin Harrison and Randy Scheibel for their three years serving our membership as directors. The work that board members put in is many times underappreciated by the membership, but it is key to continuing to grow our club. APRIL 2019 PAGE 2

GENERAL MANAGER’S MESSAGE

SEDI HALVORSON GENERAL MANAGER

Flooding: I have received many questions regarding flooding here at Oxbow this spring. First off, our “front nine” or “new nine” will be just fine under most any circumstances. The concern, of course, is the “old nine”, on the other side of our new levee. There is a possibility of the Red River coming over its levee on that side. Long-time members are familiar with this scenario. In preparation for this, we currently undergoing sandbagging efforts to protect the “old nine” as best we can. Once we move on to our full new course later this year, flooding concerns will be a distant memory in the years moving forward. Here’s hoping to some warm weather very soon! We will of course alert the membership through email course opening information when the time comes.

MEMBERSHIP UPDATE

ALISON MOLONY

DIRECTOR OF MEMBERSHIP & EVENTS YOUR CLUB, 12 MONTHS OUT OF THE YEAR March 3rd marked my five-year anniversary as your Director of Membership & Events. Back in 2014, the winter season was slow. On Sundays, it wasn’t uncommon to serve only one member all day. Our busiest days were Kids’ Night and the last weekend of the month when everyone got in at the last minute to spend their minimums. Generally speaking, the members were waiting around for spring. Then they would start utilizing their membership at Oxbow again.

JOIN OUR PRIVATE FACEBOOK GROUP!

In the past five years, it has been amazing to watch Oxbow transform into a Club that offers value and entertainment twelve months of the year. Gone are the days when Oxbow’s only draw was the golf course, pool, and occasional social event. We are so much more now! With the addition of the Trackman simulator, increased social events, and top-notch cuisine by Chef Scott and his talented team, Oxbow is busier than ever before! I have said on numerous occasions that the “off-season” no longer feels like a slow time of year. In the winter months, the management team is working just as hard to give you a membership experience that is unbeatable in every aspect.

In fact, if you compare the numbers: our first quarter member spending in food & beverage is up 69% from 2014. That’s incredible! This is a direct result of our We now have a members choosing Oxbow first when dining out, celebrating special occasions, or spending time with their family. Our Daddy-Daughter Dance alone doubled in private Facebook group attendance since last year! just for OCC members! To Back in 2014, I thought I was just coming to Oxbow to gain experience in event planning, sales, and marketing. I never thought the Club business would become a join, simply search “Oxbow passion of mine, or that I would have the chance to develop our member Country Club programming to such an extent. I have YOU to thank for that. Your participation and Members” on enthusiasm makes it possible for us to continue growing and improving. It’s been such a pleasure to celebrate my five-year anniversary with Oxbow. Here’s to many Facebook, and more! click on “Request To Join.”

FOOD & BEVERAGE

JAKE HUGHES

ASSISTANT GENERAL MANAGER What a fun March we had! Members learned some knife skills in the kitchen with Chef Scott, everyone had a blast at our Spring Fever event, the Terra D’oro Winery Spotlight dinner was amazing, we had two Pot O’ Gold Winners, the Cat in the Hat stopped by, and Daddy-Daughter Dance was our biggest yet! We love doing all these events for members. If you ever have any ideas for a club event, please let us know.

Pot O Gold Winners Amy Johnson

A big shout out to our March Pot O’ Gold winners, Amy Johnson and David Newman. Both took home a Pot O’ Gold Food & Beverage Credit. Congratulations are also in order for Becky Currier. She took home a three liter bottle of Terra D’oro Zinfandel at our last wine dinner. This is not her first time winning big! In 2018, she came to our Flora Springs wine dinner and her name was also drawn for their magnum bottle. With still snow on the ground, be sure to watch your email and our App for events happening in April. Don’t forget to make your reservations for our amazing Easter Brunch on the 21st and our Easter Egg Hunt on the 14th.

FOOD AND BEVERAGE

SCOTT MOTSCHENBACHER EXECUTIVE CHEF

Hello, Oxbow!! I usually I like to talk about our future in the culinary department, but right now, I would like to look at the past. At this point in the year, I try to think about the previous year and what worked and didn’t work.

APRIL 2019

Some of my/our biggest successes in the offseason were the wine dinners. One of my biggest failures that turned into a huge success was our German Wine Dinner. When I say failure, I am talking about attendance. Typically for our wine dinners, we see attendance anywhere from 20-30 people. For this particular dinner we had SIX PEOPLE! Wow! When it was time to put this one on, I questioned whether or not we should actually do it. Everyone and I agreed on making it happen. We decided to do a chef’s table in the kitchen. It was a small group of people that just really liked German food. We all had a blast. My take-aways from this are a few different things. First off… as your chef, taking small problems and making them successes puts me over the moon! Second, this small group of people came together for an event TO EAT. This group was made up of perfect strangers and they all walked away as friends. To me that is what makes Oxbow GREAT! Oxbow is such a great networking tool (even for me as the Chef). That’s why I love to cook! Next up, The GARDEN! This is something I have wanted from day one at Oxbow. I am going to start small, growing a few lettuces, tomatoes, herbs, potatoes, and so forth. I will need some serious help with it. I implore anyone who has free time to help. I see this garden being a huge part of the Oxbow kitchen, from “to-the-table” meals to educational opportunities. Seriously though…. I need volunteers. I have no idea what I am getting into with this garden, but I am going to make it work one way or the other. See you around the club!

In a large mixing bowl add all your ingredients and mix well. Spread a thick layer onto plain white bread. In a sauté pan on medium high heat add 1 tblsp unsalted butter. When the butter is melted and bubbling, add the sandwich. Grill on both sides for 2-3 minutes. Remove and enjoy!

NEWS FROM THE FAIRWAY

DAVID WOOD SUPERINTENDENT

With the spring thaw starting, we have started our preparations for the coming season. Our main concern is to remove all standing water where at all possible. There are drainage pipes that have frozen and are now holding the melting snow. Two problems can arise from the standing water. First, thawing and refreezing can lead to crown hydration issues. Secondly, if we have a sunny day, the water could warm up and cause damage to the grass. So we will be moving pumps around the course as needed to help accelerate the opening. Removal of the snow fences has also started. The fences did a great job this winter of collecting snow to help insulate the greens. Pulling the fence stakes will begin as the frost starts to come out of the ground.

With the golf course opening in April, it is important that we follow some golf course etiquette rules to help the turf out before a busy season. Please replace all your divots on par 3 tee boxes and in fairways. Place the sod in the divot and press down with your foot. The sod piece will not dry out if replaced immediately. Please keep your golf carts on the cart paths whenever possible. The varieties of blue grass planted do not begin actively growing until the soil temperatures are in the 50’s. Excessive cart traffic will lead to thinning of the turf and weed infestations. As always, fix all ball marks and rake sand bunkers. Our staffing levels are low this time of the year, so the frequency of raking bunkers and other maintenance tasks is not like the summer months. Please do not drive your golf carts around the course before we open. There are areas around the course that the drains have not thawed in the cart paths, leaving spots that are holding water from 8-12 deep. Electric carts are not meant to go through that much water and doing so could cause problems with the electrical system on your cart. See you on the course,

GOLF SHOP 1975

COREY HERLICKSON HEAD GOLF PROFESSIONAL

Spring is here and the golf season will be here before we know it! Some of you have gotten a jump start on your game by utilizing the TrackMan golf simulator. If you haven’t checked it out, please stop by the golf shop and have a look. You’ll also be able to see some of our new merchandise we have coming in.

Another thing you’ll want to check are those grooves on your irons and wedges. As the grooves get older, they become less effective. Now certainly, iron grooves do not wear down as fast as wedges. If you have had a wedge, whether GW, SW, or LW for more than a year, I would bring it into the golf shop for one of the Golf Professional Team to evaluate and recommend whether you should continue playing it or look at getting fit for a new wedge. I just came back from the PGA Merchandise Show and went to an educational session put on by Titleist’s Wedge Designer Bob Vokey. During this session, he indicated that after playing as little as 25 rounds, depending upon practice and warm up routine, you should put a new sand wedge in your bag due to wear on the grooves. It is the club you most rely on for shots around the green and with worn wedges, you cannot predict what the ball is going to do consistently. Stop by the golf shop before the season starts and let us take a look. This time of year is always fun. With the Masters about to start, the golf bug is definitely biting! It’s been a long winter but we are excited to see everyone at the club enjoying this great game!

PAGE 18

APRIL 2019

10 AM—6 PM

As we prepare for the upcoming season, now is a good time to go through your equipment and make sure everything is up to par! Here are just a couple easy ways to get started on the right track this year. First off, check those grips. Grips often get overlooked, but with that being our only connection to the club, it is important that you have a confident grip. If you think you might need new grips, stop by the golf shop and we’ll take a look. Another thing you can do is give them a wash. Get a bucket of warm, soapy water, grab a rag, and give them a good scrub and then dry with a towel. This will clean off any dirt and oil and can bring back some of the “tack” that they used to have.
