GENERAL MANAGER’S MESSAGE
SEDI HALVORSON GENERAL MANAGER
It’s hard to believe that it’s already July! June was a great month here at Oxbow, with lots of member activity on the course and pool! Although the month started out cool, we enjoyed some beautiful weather through the last 10 days of the month. We have tons of great member events coming up, including our Fourth of July celebration, Americana Dinner, Derby Weekend, and so much more! I am particularly excited for our second annual Fourth of July celebration here at the club. We have planned great activities and events, live music, and of course, Memory Fireworks is coming back to put on the best fireworks display in the area! Please make sure to check out all of the events happening Thursday, including those that require an RSVP. Speaking of membership, we now have 45 new members and member families that have joined us in 2019! A huge thank you to all of our members for referring their friends, family, and colleagues to become members at your club. We are still accepting new members, and it is certainly not too late to enjoy so much of the summer at Oxbow. Please keep passing on your referrals to Alison and me! Remember that you receive a $250 credit in the golf shop or food and beverage for referring new golf members, $100 in food and beverage for social members. As a reminder, as we head in to July and August, we start to have more outside golf events here at the club on Mondays and Tuesdays. However, not all of these events take up the course for the entire afternoon. Please be sure to check the tee sheet online or call the golf shop on Mondays and Tuesdays to see if there is availability.

Lastly, our new holes are growing in very nicely. David and his team have done a terrific job to get the north nine to where it is today. I know our golf members (and all of us on the management team!) are excited to return to a normal course and play our full new 18. Please be mindful that although the holes appear to be playable, once you get up close, you realize there is still some time to go. To get a golf course in playable shape, it takes time, water, and sun (as well as a healthy does of fertilizer and chemicals). We will be there shortly, completing our six-year transformation. We appreciate everyone’s patience as we get close to the finish line. Once a date is picked, we will alert the membership, and have a very special event to commemorate the occasion.

GENERAL MANAGER’S MESSAGE
SEDI HALVORSON (con.) GENERAL MANAGER
We are also putting the finishing touches on our course restrooms and snack shack for the south holes. We hope to have it operational by the beginning of August. We still have a couple of items to complete, and are excited to have additional restrooms on the course, as well as a place to stop and grab a beverage! Thank you all for a great month of June. We hope you enjoyed your club often this past month! We still have so many great things coming your way this summer—we are only getting started. I hope to see you soon, at YOUR club. Sedi
Check out our complimentary kids’ activity schedule at the pool! Every time your child attends an event, they will get a chance to win “OxBUCKS”, which can be used on food & beverages at the pool!

ASSISTANT GENERAL MANAGER Summer is here and hopefully here to stay! The pool is getting more traffic than ever and we have already sold over 1,000 scoops of ice cream! Be sure to be on the look out for our featured drink of the week. This week’s feature is the Red, White, and Blue Pina Colada—PERFECT for the 4th of July. We have many events planned on the 4th so please refer to Page 11 for more information. We have had some maintenance issues with our Beverage Carts recently, but don’t worry— we will always have someone on the course to keep the refreshments flowing. We also have no problem running beverages out from the Clubhouse. Keep our phone number handy for occasions such as this. Thankfully, our snack shacks are close to finished. Please keep an eye out for opening announcements! In personal news, my wife and I are expecting our second child on December 7th. Just like our first, we will not be finding out if this one is a boy or a girl. My wife, Clare, and I are very excited to grow our family. And our oldest, Dylan, is currently training to be the best big sister ever. Enjoy your Club, Jake Hughes

Hello, Oxbow! June was a GREAT month! I went through my third Battle at the Bow, the Oxbow Garden is starting to really come along, and the pool is rockin!! July is a month that is going to be really awesome for the garden. I have already harvested lettuce greens twice. In July, we will see more vegetables. I am especially excited for the different varieties of tomatoes. That being said, I need to give props to a few special people. Shellie Ulvin from the Grounds Crew and her two kiddos planted the garden. Our members, Tessa Simon, Sarah Mueller, and Sally Mcravey are helping to keep it watered. A big thank you to them!! If anyone else is interested in helping out, we have a garden schedule posted at the bar.
JULY 2019
We have a few great events in July, starting with our 4th of July bash! The turn out last year was really impressive. I hope to see everyone out again this year for some fun food, music, and fireworks. On July 13th, we are hosting our Americana Dinner. Last year, it sold out quickly so be sure to sign up asap! There are some fun kids camps coming up as well. It’s hard to believe it’s July and that the pool has been open a month already! Time truly does fly at Oxbow! I also want to begin changing the menu up a little this month by adding some more garden/vegetable focused dishes. That is about all I have for you this month. I’ll see you around the club!

Recipe of the Month
BY CHEF SCOTT
Pulled Pork For this month’s recipe, I want to share my pulled pork recipe. This is the same pork we use on the hugely popular Cubano. Ingredients: 1 bone-in pork butt For the rub: 1 cup kosher salt ½ cup smoked paprika ¼ cup granulated garlic ¼ cup cumin ¼ cup dried oregano 2 tablespoons crushed red pepper 2 tablespoons cayenne pepper ¼ cup brown sugar ¼ cup white granulated sugar Procedure: Rub your pork with the seasoning. Place in a large roasting pan and add 2 quarts of chicken stock. Cover the pan with a layer of plastic wrap and put a layer of tin foil over the top of that. Place in a 350 degree over for 4 hours. The best way to know if the pork is fully cooked is to pull the bone out. If it comes out with little pressure, you know all the connective tissues are fully dissolved. If it is giving you a hard time, keep cooking. Once fully cooked, let it sit out at room temperature for at least 20 minutes. Then start pulling! You can use this beautiful pork for anything. It’s great on a bun with BBQ sauce, as a Cuban sandwich, or even on a nice garden salad. Enjoy!!

NEWS FROM THE FAIRWAY
DAVID WOOD SUPERINTENDENT
The grow-in of phase two golf holes is progressing as we anticipated. The greens are completely covered and being mowed at a playable height of cut. We have started a regular vertical grooming schedule of the turf to begin the transition into an acceptable playing surface, focusing on smoothness and green speed. We anticipate lowering the cutting height one more time before opening so that both nine holes are consistent. All the tee boxes have filled in completely and are being mowed at our standard cutting height. As the turf on the tees matures, the grass plants are creating a layer of thatch and developing a strong stolon and rhizome system. This build-up of plant material will help the recovery of the playing surface once we open for play. Coming out of winter, there were areas in the fairways with 30% turf cover. Most of these areas have turned to thin spots with about 75% cover. Several seedings and a very aggressive fertility plan have accelerated the establishment of the fairways. As the grow-in progresses, we are beginning to see some grassy and broadleaf weed invasion. A big concern of ours is the control of annual bluegrass, poa annua. Poa is a good surface to play off of, but is more susceptible to heat and low temperature damage. There was a high percentage of it on the old course and a large amount of its seed in the topsoil. We have started a control program for the poa. Part of the side effects include bleaching of the affected plants and some ryegrass. We will be seeing the off coloring for several weeks during the treatments. Opening of phase two golf holes is tentatively scheduled for the beginning of September. The course looks ready to play from a distance, but there are still areas that need to fill in and mature. Introducing cart traffic to the juvenile plants would set everything back considerably. Plus, we are still watering areas that are in play during the afternoons. We will keep everyone updated!
JULY 2019
With multiple tee locations for #2 gold tee, we will place a gold tee marker next to the water cooler box to indicate that day’s location. If the marker is on the right side of the cooler the tee markers will be on the south tee. If the marker is on the left of the cooler, golfers will be using the tee next to the lake. We will be hosting a member tour of the new golf holes Sunday, July 21st at 3:00 pm. Please come out and get the latest updates on your golf course. See you on the course, David Wood PAGE 15

COREY HERLICKSON HEAD GOLF PROFESSIONAL We had a successful junior camp with 78 juniors attending. Nobody got hurt and everyone had a great time! Battle at the Bow was a success with the help of our entire golf operations team. It is a blessing to have so many dedicated and talented teammates. Congratulations to Perry Piatz and his guest Perry Bohl on their win!

Speaking of driving range usage and keeping the range in great shape, please check out the picture provided to see the proper divot pattern to use on the range. We see way too many patterns similar to the scattered image in the picture. Scattered divots take up way more space than needed and create a very uneven surface for footing. Creating divots in a straight line allows more area to hit from and an even surface for your feet. As always, please fill in your divot when finished. We have a large driving range tee, but we want to make sure it is always in perfect shape as we rotate through the tee area all season! PAGE 16

*NO MEN’S DAY JULY 4TH
With warmer weather comes more time golfing and practicing on the driving range. The main tee box is available for everyone to use. The tee box at the 2019 Battle At The Bow back of the range is for professional Champions lessons, families, and short game Perry Piatz & Perry Bohl work. The back tee box is simply too small to accommodate day-to-day range usage of more than a handful of people per day. Please utilize the main tee box to ensure the back tee stays in great shape for those dedicated uses as identified by the Board of Directors.

ADDIE LONG CATERING MANAGER
Happy July Oxbow Country Club Members! Summer is finally (fingers crossed) in full swing with nice weather and we are PACKED with events! If you are looking for fun ways to make the most of the nice days North Dakota graces us with, what better way than throwing a backyard party! There are plenty of fun ideas to include the kiddos (but also add a little spiked beverage for all of the deserving neighborhood parents): The Classic Lemonade Stand: Encourage your children’s’ entrepreneurial spirit by planning a neighborhood lemonade stand. *Fun tip: add a twist and invite the neighbors over to help with the lemonade stand complete with an adult lemonade stand with spiked beverages. Supervising summer events comes with some perks.* The ULTIMATE Squirt Gun War: What better way to cool off than with a summer classic. If you have any buckets or totes available, fill them with water as a fun “refill station” with some surprise water balloons to add to the fun. Messy Twister: WARNING this one will stain clothes but the memories are worth it! Bring out the family twister mat into the backyard and place globs of shaving cream with food dye. It makes for a messy but memorable summer family game night! Best, Addie JULY 2019 PAGE 18
