MANAGER’S MESSAGE 1975

SEDI HALVORSON GENERAL MANAGER

Hello again! It’s great to be back at Oxbow! I truly appreciate the warm welcome I have received since I returned a few days ago. I consider it a privilege to lead your club again after 10 months of being away. Once I returned here to assist when Greg left, I felt right at home again. The members, the team, everyone made it an easy decision to come back when I was asked. My primary goal in the beginning is to stabilize our management team, and to find the right people to fill our vacant roles here at the club. These vacant roles provide vital leadership to our food and beverage operations, as well as our membership recruitment and retention. Finding the right people to lead these areas is key to our success as a club, and your membership experience at Oxbow. MEMBERSHIP Overall, we have had a good year for membership, with 39 new members, as well as three members upgrading from our social category to our golf category. While we anticipated perhaps a stronger year this year, COVID-19 has had a large impact on your club, and clubs around the country. While many members are actually able to enjoy the club more, many prospective members have faced uncertainty in their careers and family life due to the pandemic. I know we will persevere through this time, and be stronger moving forward. I truly believe Oxbow offers the best value of any club in this area, and will be in a strong position for years to come. We are also going to roll out our Trial Membership again this year. More details can be found later in the

newsletter. It is a great chance for prospective members to enjoy membership at Oxbow on a trial basis. We have had much success with this program in the past, and I anticipate that to be the case again this year. Please pass this information along to your friends and colleagues who have considered membership here. As always, contact me with any questions or anyone you want me to contact directly. AUGUST We had a great month of July, with fantastic pool weather and the golf course open for member play almost every day. As we look to August, we do have a couple more outside golf events this month, but only five total. Keeping the number of outside events down has been a goal of ours so that you can enjoy your course more. It also reduces cart traffic and wear and tear on the course. Please check the Tee Sheet for availability on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. August is typically one of the best months for golf and the pool, so we hope you are able to continue to come out and enjoy the club. THANK YOU Although it’s hard to believe it is already here, throughout August we begin to see many of our seasonal associates head back to school, whether that be attending or teaching. I want to thank all of our team who has worked so hard this year. Please join me in wishing all of them the best of luck as they continue their journeys. We hope to see many of them back next year! Thank you again for the great welcome back! August promises to be a busy month here at your club, and I hope you all can come out and enjoy it. See you soon! Sedi 3

EVENT COORDINATOR UPDATE 1975

HEATHER HEYERMAN EVENT COORDINATOR

Happy August! These summer months are moving by so fast. I wish they would slow down just a little bit! August is a very busy month for us out here at the club. Outside event business is picking up with tournaments and weddings! I am excited that so many of the weddings this summer are member weddings. We are looking forward to hosting everyone’s family and friends for such a special day! The weddings that we have had so far this summer have gone over great, and we are taking all the precautions to keep everyone safe.

party or celebration at our pool is so much fun and is a very popular thing to do out at the club during the summers! We have an awesome pool that is for both children and adults! Our ballroom is a great area to have birthday parties, bridal and baby showers, business meetings, and social gatherings. We have access to both inside and outdoor patio seating for guests. I hope everyone has a great month of August and stays safe and healthy!

I am excited to share that I am also getting married this August, so I am in the same boat with all the other brides for this month. I am very anxious but also very excited! As always, if you are looking to hold a summer gathering, please feel free to contact me at heather@oxbowcc.com, I would love to help set something up in our ballroom or in our pool. Having a 6

NEWS FROM THE FAIRWAY 1975

DAVID WOOD SUPERINTENDENT

The new maintenance facility continues to evolve into the work area that we envisioned. Installation of the soil bins on the southeast corner of the property will be completed in early August. The bins were located in this area to allow for semi-truck deliveries directly onto the storage location. All the materials used for the bin construction was left over bridge planking and posts from phase one course construction. The bins will also protect the building from errant shots coming off 2 tee. Landscaping around the building will be an on-going project through August. The existing trees around the building are 30 plus years old and in varying conditions of quality. We have pruned out the dead material and begun to add new trees where they are needed. The area will also be seeded with the native grasses that are used on the golf course.

The equipment wash station planned for the mowing equipment has arrived. This wash station will remove grass clippings, sand, and small debris from the mowers. The waste water will be pumped from the area. This will keep the debris and odor to a minimum. We will begin controlling weed infestations in tee boxes. Our goal is to eliminate all bent and ryegrasses, plus poa annua. The bent grass contamination on the south tees is extensive on several holes and the control will be noticeable once we begin. Several drain projects were completed in July that have been an issue since construction. On the approach for hole 3, we found an old drainage line from the original golf course that was the source of the excess water. Behind 16 green, we believe the water was moving laterally through the mound separating holes 16 and 17. In both cases, there were drains to connect into making both repairs simple. See you on the course, David Wood 7

GOLF SHOP UPDATE 1975

COREY HERLICKSON HEAD GOLF PROFESSIONAL

It’s been another successful summer at Oxbow in 2020, but it isn’t over yet! The next 6 weeks are traditionally some of the best weather days of the year. COVID-19 has helped us see an incredible increase in the number of rounds played in 2020 vs 2019. Please see the chart below. We are glad you are taking advantage of the club! We are very happy to see smiling faces coming into the Golf Shop because you are playing more! We have several tournaments coming

soon. We have the Oxbow Best Ball on August 1st & 2nd, which is the only open tournament where we allow guests to play on a team without members. This provides us a chance to show off our awesome new course to non-members. We also have the Parent-Child Tournament coming up on August 9th. You can call the golf shop or sign up in the Golf Shop. You get to set your own tee time for this event. Vegas Couples is on August 21st. It is a great night for fun in Sin City! You might even see Elvis hitting tee shots! All adult members are welcome to participate in this Couples’ Night.

KITCHEN UPDATE 1975

SCOTT MOTSCHENBACHER EXECUTIVE CHEF

Hello, Oxbow! We are already into August. This summer has been flying by! It seems that this year in particular has been going faster than past years. It has everything to do with how busy we have been! COVID-19 has shut pretty much everything down. Luckily, your club is still open and going strong. We have tried to implement some events we have done in the past, but it was especially hard this year to get our camps and other events going. A lot of it due to COVID-19 and some of it due to unforeseen circumstances. One thing we brought back recently was our Wednesday afternoon pool craft. Tess and Jordyn in the pool took it upon themselves to get that going again. If you get the chance to see them before they leave for college, be sure to say thank you!

want. We’re going to give it a try! As always, please send your ideas my way: chef@oxbowcc.com! As you all may know, we have had some management turnover this year. I am more than happy to tell you all that we finally got the Sous Chef position filled! He is still training in on how I like things done. He has a wealth of knowledge and great energy. We also filled another important position. That is the General Manager position. The universe decided that Sedi Halvorson’s work was not done with Oxbow. He is one of the biggest reasons Oxbow is as great as it is. His leadership, his ideas, and his push to see things through are unparalleled. Since he has been back, it feels as though a giant weight has been lifted off our shoulders. I, as your chef could not be happier!

The current menu has been a huge success so far this summer. I am currently working on changing it up a bit. I have gotten a bunch of awesome suggestions, including some stuff I never thought anyone at Oxbow would

RECIPE OF THE MONTH 1975

SCOTT MOTSCHENBACHER EXECUTIVE CHEF

Mexican Street Corn For this month’s recipe, I want to share my Elote, or Mexican Street Corn, recipe. This is an awesome side for a grill out. INGREDIENTS  1 fresh cob sweet corn  1 tsp hot chili powder  2 tbsp mayo  ¼ cup grated cojita cheese or queso fresco  1 tablespoon chopped cilantro  1 tsp granulated garlic PROCEDURE Grill or steam your corn and coat the outside with your mayo. After that, you just need to sprinkle the rest of the ingredients on. Enjoy with an ice cold cerveza!
