GENERAL MANAGER’S MESSAGE

SEDI HALVORSON GENERAL MANAGER

July always seems to go way too fast here at Oxbow. I hope everyone was able to get out and enjoy some time by the pool and on the golf course, which is in magnificent shape! As we turn to August, please read through this newsletter, as we have so much going on throughout the month for you. I know many of our members begin thinking about back to school this time of year, but we still have lots of fun left yet this summer for all members! Please take time to review the calendar in the newsletter so that you are able to fully enjoy all that we have to offer. Additionally, please remember to check out upcoming events online on the website, as well as the Oxbow mobile app. Membership We have had a great year for membership. So far this year, we have welcomed 49 new member families to Oxbow. There is still time for your friends and colleagues to join. The Board has approved a great membership promotion for those of you who have friends or colleagues that may be interested in membership, but either think it is too late to join this year, or are wanting to “try it out” to see what membership is like for them. This is truly a great opportunity for prospective members to see what life as an Oxbow member is all about. Please refer this promotion to anyone you think may benefit from a trial membership at Oxbow! Golf Course Update I can’t tell you how excited I am just typing this. The opening day for our new golf holes will be Friday, August 30th! As you all are aware, this has been many years in the making, and all of us are so excited to be back to a par 72 course! Tee times will begin a little later this day so that David and his crew can place all the finishing touches (tee markers and posts, flags, etc) on the new holes, as well as adjust the hole numbers on the current front nine. More info will come throughout the month. We will have a celebration that morning, followed by play that day. Corey is also arranging a fun tournament on Tuesday evening, August 27th, to say farewell to the lower nine that we have played since 1975. Again, please stay tuned throughout the month on details of this exciting day and weekend! AUGSUT 2019 PAGE 2

GENERAL MANAGER’S MESSAGE

SEDI HALVORSON (con.) GENERAL MANAGER

Outside Golf Events Lastly, if you are one of our members who enjoys playing early in the week, please always check with the golf shop or online/ mobile app tee sheet for availability on Mondays and Tuesdays. Although we typically have outside golf events on these days, some of them are smaller in size, and some Tuesdays we don’t have an event at all. Do not assume it is impossible to golf on these days! Some of our events are large in size and take the whole course for the afternoon, but others are not. Sometimes the tee sheet is open in the morning on Tuesdays, as well as mid-afternoon depending on the size of the event. For most events, we know the final size of the event about five days ahead of time. At this point, we can open up the tee sheet for our members if at all possible. Again, please ask us. If we can get you on the course, we will! Thank you to all for a great month of July! August promises to be a spectacular month, as we complete what has been five years in the making. I am truly excited for our golfing members to play the full course, and know you will LOVE IT! It is truly a historic time to be a member at Oxbow! Sedi

Check out our complimentary kids’ activity schedule at the pool! Every time your child attends an event, they will get a chance to win “OxBUCKS”, which can be used on food & beverages at the pool!

MEMBERSHIP & EVENTS UPDATE

ALISON MOLONY

DIRECTOR OF MEMBERSHIP & EVENTS OXBOW TRIAL MEMBERSHIP Do you know anyone who is interested in joining Oxbow, but not quite ready to make the leap into full membership? We have a solution! This year, we are once again offering individuals/families who have *never been an Oxbow member* the opportunity to try out a full membership on a trial basis. This preview will run from August 15th – October 31st, and participants will have no obligation to continue on with membership (but we bet they will!) We are currently accepting referrals for this special offer, and are limiting to ten spots. Please reach out to me for more details, or send referrals my way!

JOIN OUR PRIVATE FACEBOOK GROUP!

MEMBER TEXT In July, you should have started to receive text messages as new form of communication that we are offering to our members. Our plan is to send texts out about once per week to help boost event attendance and keep you informed about what’s going on at Oxbow. If you do NOT wish to receive texts from Oxbow, it is very easy to unsubscribe by replying STOP to the text messages. If you haven’t received any text communication from us, we probably don’t have an accurate cell phone number for you in our member database. This is an easy fix—please contact me so I can update your contact information and keep you in the loop! PAGE 4

SAVE THE DATE – SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 2ND On behalf of the Charity Gala Committee, I am excited to give you an update on plans for this year’s charitable event. For those of you who are unfamiliar, in the past, we have hosted a formal event in the spring, and the committee has chosen a local charity to support. Our past partnerships have been with The Ronald McDonald House of the Red River Valley and Matthew’s Voice Project. Based on a membership survey we conducted last year, the committee has made a few changes that we feel will be a better fit for our Club, which in turn will help us make a BIG impact in the community. We are excited to announce the date for this year’s event – mark your calendars NOW for Saturday, November 2nd! Stay tuned for more details about this year’s charitable event, which will have a new look and feel. We can’t wait to unveil more information soon! Think neon lights and glitzy nights…

JAKE HUGHES

ASSISTANT GENERAL MANAGER Congratulations to Mike Bindas and Paul Johnson for winning the 2019 Derby. They weren’t the only winners that night—the Oxbow Members were here to party! Members were at the club late into the night dancing the night away to Alison and her band. This tournament is one of my favorites out here because everyone has such a fun time. Thank you to Tito’s Vodka for sponsoring the event and making Derby 2019 one for the record books! Hopefully, the awesome weather we have been having will continue into August. Make sure to join us on Sunday, August 4th for our Pirate and Mermaids Pool Party! Live DJ, inflatable games, and contest will make this more than just your average day at the pool. A complimentary buffet will be up from 2 PM—4 PM, If you can’t make it to the pool party, there are plenty of other opportunities to enjoy the pool this month. Remember, the pool closes for the season on Labor Day, September 2nd.

SCOTT MOTSCHENBACHER EXECUTIVE CHEF

Hello Oxbow!! July was a crazy fun month. The fourth of July extravaganza was a blast. I found out one very important thing that day. Fried chicken with butter and honey will now be a tradition. We had some awesome kid’s camps. The Rock Star Camp was a blast! The kiddos made me a bracelet that I am still wearing. I also got the VIP backstage pass. The kids were all VERY excited to give that to me. The show was the best I have seen yet! Props to Alison, Sara, and Tess for making that happen. On to the garden news...our storm in early July did a beating on the garden. However, I am happy to report that our garden did survive the storm and is looking REALLY good! Luckily, we didn’t need much help in the way of watering early July. I am now going to be at a garden surplus soon. So, if you need any herbs, peppers, or tomatoes, I am your guy. It has been a great summer so far. All the member events have been a blast! Be sure to bring yourself and the family out this month. The clock is ticking and not in the direction we want. The pool is still very warm, the drinks cold, and the food always fresh. I’ll see you around the club!!

Recipe of the Month

BY CHEF SCOTT

Germolata

For this month’s recipe, I want to share my gremolata recipe. I haven’t used this at Oxbow yet, but this is something I make at home when I grill fish. This is a very bright and herbaceous sauce. It screams summer to me! INGREDIENTS: • 1 bunch flat leaf parsley • 2 lemons juiced and zested • 1 tablespoon crushed pepper flake • 2 cloves of garlic • 1 teaspoon honey—locally raised is the best! • 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar • Salt and pepper to taste PROCEDURE: Add all ingredients to a food processor and pulse 10-15 times. Germolata goes great on grilled salmon or even on some yummy ribeye tacos. It’s all about balance with this sauce. The fattier the protein, the better. You get the fat from the salmon mixing with the freshness of the herbs and lemon, coming right around to just a bit of spice from the pepper flake and sour of the vinegar. I wanted to share this recipe because of all the GARDEN fresh ingredients. Enjoy!!!

NEWS FROM THE FAIRWAY

DAVID WOOD SUPERINTENDENT

In July, we spent a considerable amount of time finishing the sand bunkers. Some of the bunkers were constructed in late 2017 and were showing signs of neglect with soil and weed contamination and insufficient sand depths. We estimate that about 75 tons of dirty sand was removed from the traps and replaced with new, clean material. The sand became contaminated from several of the rainstorms that came through the Oxbow area in July. This did take a significant amount of time, but the contaminated material is not going to waste! We have been using the sand to top-dress weak areas that are being over-seeded. Approximately 200 tons of new sand was brought in to finish the bunkers to make them playable.

New Bunker Sand

New Bunker Sand

This month, we are making final preparations for the opening of phase two golf holes. As stated last month, the putting greens are all covered and being mowed every second day. Every week, we have been vertical grooming and applying sand topdressings to thin out the amount of grass on the greens and help smooth the surface. The height of cut will be lowered one more time before opening. Bug Spray Damage

AUGUST 2019

We have been installing yardage prisms on cart paths on the new golf holes. The prisms are not an actual yardage in their location on the paths. The yardage is taken from the middle of the fairway. Sprinkler heads from 200 yards to the greens will have yardage plates to the middle of the green to assist golfers that do not use range finders. With mosquitoes being very active this year, just a reminder to please apply all insect repellants in the parking lot or on a cart path. Bug sprays are very damaging to the grass. See you on the course, David Wood PAGE 15

COREY HERLICKSON HEAD GOLF PROFESSIONAL

It’s been another successful summer at Oxbow in 2019, and it isn’t over yet! The next 6 weeks are some of the best weather days of the year. With the new north holes growing in, we are all very excited to see the new course. It looks to be one of the best if not, THE best golf course in North Dakota once we open it up. It has been a long and trying time, but nothing great ever comes quickly. Your patience has been greatly appreciated.

As you can see, we created combo tees for the new course. It will allow for you to play the course in a variety of ways, which will only add to the fun. The USGA has changed the criteria in which they rate golf courses. They will be re-rating all of the golf courses in ND from 2019-2021. This will change the ratings for all of the courses downward by an average of 0.5 strokes, sometimes even more. Our course was rated using the new criteria, so we will not see any changes. The new scorecards are created and we are editing them for a nice and clean look for everyone. No more having to pick from 9 different scorecards!
