Well, that month went fast! July is one of the most fun months here at Oxbow, most notably due to Derby weekend. We had a great turnout this year and another amazing finish to the event! Congratulations to Bob Bye and David Restad on their win this year! Thank you to all who participated in Derby Couples and the Derby itself. It was truly a great weekend! August promises to have more great golf and social events for the entire family, so please take time to go through this month’s newsletter to stay up-to-date. Golf Carts – As we are near the middle of the golf season, I want to remind all members of some important golf cart policies here at Oxbow. First: Cart drivers must hold a valid, state issued driver’s license to drive any cart on golf course property. This includes both member-owned carts as well as club-owned carts. Young members with a valid learner’s permit may drive a cart, but only with a licensed adult riding with at all times. Second: Please adhere to our No Cart Policy when we get heavy rains. Although we do not like making our members walk on hot days, it is necessary if repetitive driving will cause damage to the course. We have only had a total of three days this year when we have required that carts not be used. Please understand we monitor the course conditions during these times and allow carts back out as soon as we can. Manager Change – The Club and Chef James Kerr have parted ways. We wish James nothing but the best as he moves forward and thank him for the countless hours he gave to this club. At this time, we are searching for a new Executive Chef to join the team. Our Interim Chef, Robert Rehm, will be assisting us during our time of transition. Chef Robert and I worked together many years ago at a convention center/hotel. I appreciate his help as we look to fill this position. We will do everything we can to make this process as seamless as possible for you. New Clubhouse - The new clubhouse continues to move along at a very good pace. Landscaping work has started and there is new progress being made every day. The building is over 70% complete. Almost everything inside is finished, but there are still be touch-ups needed, as well as landscaping and pool work left outside. We are targeting to be in the new clubhouse in November. Please watch for future communications regarding move and service schedules for October and early November.

DAVID WOOD SUPERINTENDENT DAVIDW@OXBOWCC.COM

New Golf Course - David has a great update and recap of our visit with the USGA, course architect and overall status of our new nine holes in his section of the newsletter. The visit by the USGA was very positive and we continue to see progress on the south holes. Please read David’s article for some great info on this process.

ERIC WENAAS, PGA 1ST ASSISTANT GOLF PRO ERIC@OXBOWCC.COM

We are excited for another great August here at your club. As always, I hope you and your family get a chance to utilize your club as often as possible as we enter the last full month of the summer season. See you soon! Sedi 2

BOOK YOUR PRIVATE EVENT IN THE NEW CLUBHOUSE - Now more than ever, it’s important for you to contact me well in advance if you would like to host an event in our new space. I am already receiving inquiries for dates in 2018! Your new ballroom is absolutely gorgeous and can seat up to 300 guests for a sit-down dinner. The ballroom can also be sub-divided for smaller groups that require a more intimate feel. CLUBHOUSE GRAND OPENING - Your new clubhouse is opening in November this year! Keep a close eye on your emails, as we will be announcing our Grand Opening Festivities soon! THANK YOU - Our first Dive-In Movie was held in July. We had so much fun - thank you to everyone who attended! We look forward to adding more Dive-In Movies to our calendar in the future. SOCIAL COMMITTEE - Are you interested in getting more involved at your club? I am looking for volunteers to serve on the Oxbow Social Committee. Serving on the Social Committee is not a huge time commitment and is a great way for you to provide direction and feedback for all things social at Oxbow! If you have a passion for events and would like to provide input for our upcoming social calendar, please contact me at alison@oxbowcc.com.

Everyone’s favorite Oxbow Grill employee, Jen Kleine has decided that after four years at Oxbow, it was time to hang up the name badge and take her friendly personality and wit down to Minneapolis. Jen is moving to Minneapolis to start classes at the University of Minnesota this coming fall and is thrilled about pursuing a degree in Mortuary Science. Jen grew up in Alexandria, MN, and moved to Fargo when she enrolled at NDSU. She has now called Fargo home for a number of years, but is looking forward to a change in her future. “I’m excited to see what Minneapolis has to offer me, but I’m not sure if I’m ready for big city life!”

Jennifer Kleine, Server

In Jen’s four years at Oxbow she has learned a numerous amount of valuable information, gained countless wonderful experiences, and has golfed a total of zero times. “I never learned to golf during my entire time out at Oxbow. I’ve never even grabbed a set of clubs!” She jokes that John Dahl should give her a lesson on her very last day. Maybe she’ll start golfing in Minneapolis!

Needless to say, the greatest lessons she learned on the job didn’t take place on the course, but behind the bar. “I had no experience bartending before this job and with the help of great management and co-workers, I’ve learned the secrets to being a good bartender.” What she loved most about her job was when she had the freedom to create new cocktails and be able to experiment with new liquors. “I loved being able to create something different for everyone to try.” I think that’s one thing we all can agree on - Jen, you’ve been an outstanding bartender and server. What inspired Jen to come to work every day? “The members did. I loved coming to work every day and being able to see my favorite faces. If the members weren’t so enjoyable, then working wouldn’t have been such a positive experience.” Her favorite Oxbow memories were the employee appreciation nights. “It was so amazing to hang out with my co-workers who I consider friends outside of work. We all work so often that the time we have together outside of the country club to share laughs were the highlight of my work experience.” On a final note, Jen would like everyone to know, “It was super awesome getting to know everyone. Lots of love to everyone at Oxbow. I am so thankful for the friendships that I have made. I am sad to leave, but so excited to see what the future holds. P.S. I’ve only cried three times today.” Oxbow thanks Jen for all of her hard work and her commitment to our club! Best of luck in your future endeavors and remember, you’re always welcome to pop in for a visit!

Attention Creamsicle lovers: August 14th is National Creamsicle Day! So for this month’s featured drink, it’s only fitting to play off the unforgettable taste of a refreshing orange creamsicle. I’m excited to present to you a recipe to try at home for Creamsicle Mimosas! This cocktail is perfect for a summer brunch or to sip while enjoying an outdoor patio. Ingredients:  ¾ cup orange juice  2 ozs marshmallow vodka  1 btl champagne  Whipped cream & orange slices for added fun toppings Directions: Combine orange juice and vodka into measuring cup. And just like that . . . . . . It’s already the end of July! Time does fly when you’re having fun golfing! The 4th of July Best Ball was a fun time! Dave Talley and Travis Ingstad won the gross division, while Taylor Cavanagh and Todd Wawers won the Net Division and a place in the Shoot-Out Round of the Derby. Everyone enjoyed the celebration. The Derby was a great time and thankfully, we missed the rain! Congratulations to Bob Bye and Dan Restad, the champions of this year’s Derby tournament. The Junior clinics and golf on Mondays and Tuesdays will be ending on August 9th. There has been a dedicated group of juniors every week winning prizes and improving their game. These practice sessions have been paying off - Oxbow’s PGA JR League won three out of four matches in July! We also have a lot of fun events coming up in August! The Oxbow Best Ball tournament will be Saturday, August 6th and Sunday, August 7th. The Parent-Child Tournament will be August 21st. Call to sign up and make your own tee time before 2:00. There are 2 different age divisions: 12 and under (9 holes) and ages 13-18 (18 holes). The format is alternate shot. Plan to play! The Inaugural Oxbow Challenge will be on August 13th. This is an “Open” 2-person event for women, so call up all your girlfriends. The entry fee is $150 per team and includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, golf with a cart, prizing, and tee gifts. Sign up by August 5th to reserve your team’s spot. Every Friday, there is Couples’ Golf at 6:00. It is a fun night and provides you with a chance to meet new members! Our featured Couples’ Night this month is Vegas Night on August 19th. We are excited to announce the format: it is a 2-person 10 ball event. Each person plays their own ball. At the end of each hole, you decide whether you want to keep your score for that hole or not. At the end of 9 holes, the team will have chosen 10 holes to count as their score. This fun format is new to Oxbow plan to bring some friends and play! The S&L Computer/El Zagal Pro Am is August 24th. This tournament benefits the Shrine Hospital. It is a team event with a pro on each team. This is the first event of the ND Open Tournament at FCC. The Club Championship will be August 27th and 28th. This is a flighted event, so there is a division for everyone! Qualifying for championship must be completed August 18-25 and members must notify the Pro Shop before teeing off. Other players are flighted by handicap. Call the Pro Shop to sign up. Tuesday league playoffs will begin August 30th. In the men’s division, the Heavy Hitters are stealing the show so far. However, the D.C.’s and Stiff Shafts are right on their tail and not letting up. As for the ladies, the Golf Bags and Fairway Gals are tied for first through 9 weeks of competition. However, if The Drivers or A Sandy & A Little Birdie have any say in these final weeks, league is about to get very interesting.

This past month, we hosted a site visit from Blake Meentemayer, USGA Green Section Agronomist, and Bruce Charlton, Golf Course Architect from RTJII. The purpose of these visits was to review the progress of the grow-in and general conditioning of turf on the new golf holes. Bruce had not been to Oxbow since October of 2015 and had not seen any grass growing on the interior holes. We spent a lot of time compiling a punch list of tasks for the New Hole #17 contractor to address before Oxbow takes over the maintenance. Plus, he spent time observing the mowing lines around green complexes and fairways and adjusting for playability as needed. Tentatively, Bruce will be returning to Oxbow at the beginning of September to review the progress and begin planning the north side construction with the contractor. Blake spent a full day on site reviewing the maturity and health of the newly grassed holes. His general observation was that the current turf was healthy and will perform well. However, several areas will require attention in the coming weeks to increase plant density. It is his suggestion to focus efforts on spot-seeding as soon as possible to give newly seeded areas time to mature. He also provided suggestions New Hole #9 to assist in ways for sustaining the grass when we do open. I will follow-up next month with a more thorough review of his report as we get closer to the transition to the new golf holes. It was also noted in Blake’s report the patience that the Board and Grounds Committee are displaying regarding opening the new holes when they are ready. This is not the case in most situations of new golf course openings. I would like to thank everyone for their patience and support during this exciting time. See you on the course. David Wood
