From the General Manager July always seems to go way too fast here at Oxbow. I hope everyone was able to get out and enjoy some time by the pool and on the golf course, which is in magnificent shape! As we turn to August, please read through your newsletter this month, as we have so much going on throughout the month for you. I know many of our members begin thinking about back to school this time of year, but we still have lots of fun left yet this summer for all members! Please take time to review the calendar in the newsletter, as well as the event flyers all throughout this month’s newsletter, so that you are able to fully enjoy all that we have to offer. Additionally, please remember to check out upcoming events online on the website, as well as the Oxbow mobile app. Membership We have had a great year for membership, and so far this year we have welcomed 69 new member families to Oxbow. I want to thank every member who has referred their friends and colleagues to the club. We also have Rush Week coming up shortly, which will give referred members an opportunity to experience some of the fun that we have here at Oxbow. If you have any questions, please contact Aja or me at any time.

MANAGER'S MESSAGE Sedi Halvorson Sedi@oxbowcc.com

Your Oxbow Team This is the time of year where we say goodbye to many of our teammates for the season, as many go back to school, whether it be attending high school or college, or teaching. I want to thank all of our teammates for doing such a tremendous job this summer. For those that have departed for the year, we wish them much success, and hope to see many again next summer.

Guest Policy Just a reminder to everyone that local guests (F/M area) are welcome once per calendar month as a guest of a member. It does not matter which member brings out the guest. If a non-member has joined us at the pool or on the course as a guest, that is their one time per month. There is still tons of summer left, I hope to see you enjoying your club! Sedi

PROFILE BY SANFORD

We are excited to start offering H2 energy, wafer protein bars and shakes from Sanford Profile. Get them in the poolhouse!

Membership & Marketing Update AJA NYQUIST

AJA@OXBOWCC.COM

Wow, how can it already be August! Summer sure is flying by, but don't worry we still have a lot of sunshine and beautiful weather left to enjoy! Make sure you check out the great events we have planned for this month! Membership Rush Week Our first annual "Rush Week" kicks off August 4th and goes through the 8th. Do you have friends/family that you have been after to join? This is the week to do it! See page 7 for more info on this! And remember if you refer someone who signs up as a golf member you get a $500 credit! As always thanks for your help growing our membership! Events for the Whole Family We have events this month for everyone! For the kids we have a pool party, dive-in movie, bingo and the parent-child golf tournament and for the adults we have our American wine dinner, adult-only pool party, couple's golf (including Vegas Night) and more! Make sure head to the app/website and get registered for the ones you want to attend. Check out all the great events coming up on pages 14-16. Fall/Winter/Spring Events: Help Needed I am currently in the process of working on the "off-season" schedule, so make sure that you let me know if there are any events you would like to see implemented. I am using survey results from earlier this year to help me in scheduling events so expect to see some new events as well as some of your favorites returning! With that, I am wondering about trying to offer more "date-night/kid's night" type evenings where the adults are able to enjoy an evening at the club and the kids are able to be watched after. Would there be any interest if we could find local teens who would essentially come in and watch the kids in a group setting? The teens would get compensated and the kids would get to have a fun evening with their friends while the parents also get to enjoy an evening with theirs. Again, this is just a thought, there would be a lot of moving pieces to get this implemented. However we would like to first get feedback on this, both good and bad. So please email me at aja@oxbowcc.com with your thoughts! Updated Information Have you had a kid recently? Have you moved? Gotten married? Switched jobs? Please make sure your member profile is up to date. You can either login to the website or on the app and make these changes yourself, or feel free to email me and I can make the changes for you. Having accurate information on file ensures we can continue to provide exceptional and individualized service. Remember, if you have any fun ideas you want implemented, have member referrals you want me to reach out to or anything at all you can email me at aja@oxbowcc.com -Aja

Youth Activities Coordinator Update ALEE SEARLES

Crazy to think we’re already almost done with summer and August is upon us! It’s been such a great summer working with all of the kids and getting to do lots of fun activities. As school will be starting, I’m sad to say my last day here will be August 20th! With that being said although my last day is the 20th we will still have one more week of activities that Aja will be doing August 23rdAugust 27th. I will also hopefully be back throughout the school year to do some kids nights! August Weekly Themes: Every Activity is held at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. ·Shipwrecked Week: August 2nd – August 9th ·Dinosaur Week: August 9th – August 13th ·Jungle Week: August 16th – August 20th ·Disney Week: August 23rd – August 27th

Reminders: We post daily in our Facebook Group – Oxbow Jr. Youth Programming, with reminders of the activities we have going on every day and updates to our schedule. Inside of the pool house is a bulletin board with a calendar of our activities along with a flyer that shows the weekly theme and the activities for that theme. If there’s something you would like to see us do this summer or in the future don’t hesitate to talk to Aja or myself. Aja has been working hard on the calendar of events for the off season and she’s up for any and all suggestions for kids and family activities. Looking Ahead: We have our last kids camp the first week of August so be sure to sign your kids up if you still would like them to attend! August 6th is National Water Balloon Day so we will be having some fun activities to go along with that. We have a pool party August 8 which is a Pirate and Mermaid theme. Our kids’ night in August will be a Dive-in movie on August 13th. Lastly, we have Family Bingo on August 29th in Family Dining! I would like to thank all of you for an amazing first summer here at Oxbow! I hope you had just as much fun as I did doing the activities. It was great getting to meet all of the awesome families out here and getting to hang out in the pool house! I can’t wait for next summer!

JULY HAPPENINGS

A LOOK BACK AT WHAT HAPPENED LAST MONTH

CLUBHOUSE UPDATE Kyle Millar Clubhouse Manager kyle@oxbowcc.com

I think I say this on every newsletter, but where did the month of July go?? I still feel like I am still recovering from the 4th of July festivities, but that was three weeks ago. Funny how the time gets away from us all this part of the year. Even though this month feels like its gone by in the blink of an eye, we still made sure to pack it full of great events. As mentioned before, we started the month out with a bang! The 4th of July celebration was kicked off with an Adults only pool party which was great for all the Friday night couples league players. It was a bit of a slow start up until they finished their round, but once they got back inside and enjoyed a cocktail or two and some food, the party really got into full swing! We have another coming up in August and I hope to see more of you out there. Then on the 4th, we started out with our annual Best Ball tourney in the morning, tons of pool activities all afternoon long, a backyard buffet to die for, and a rockin band. This was then all topped off with an incredible fireworks display! Now, I may have already been asleep for these fireworks, but a lot of people did tell me they were amazing. Music on the patio has been a big hit all through July! Besides the 4th, we also had music on the 9th, 17th, and 23rd. Each act offered a ton of variety for everyone to enjoy, country, rock, pop, you name it, they played it! We have a few more coming up in August, so make sure and join us on the patio. The biggest event of July had to be Derby though. Couples Derby night was a lot of fun! We had some great drinks and appetizers out on the patio before everyone took off to get their 9 holes in. Once they finished up, we had a small buffet and drinks ready. Everyone including the staff seemed to have a wonderful time. Then bright and early on Saturday was the official Derby. Teams joined us for a delicious breakfast on the patio by Chef and his staff accompanied by a hosted Bloody Mary/Screw-Up bar thanks to Mike Bindas. It was a gorgeous, albeit hot, day for golf. Once the teams finished up their 18, they enjoyed a fantastic taco bar as the scores were being tallied. Then it was off to the shoot out! It finished quite dramatically with an extra hole needing to be played. Congratulations to Mark Adams and Travis Ingstad! After that, the night finished quietly with everyone heading home for some well-deserved sleep. Lies! All Lies!! Everyone ate and drank to their hearts content! Then partied and danced all night with the band on the patio! Tons of fun! -Kyle 12

Food & Bev. Update TEDD MERRILL FOOD & BEVERAGE MANAGER TEDD@OXBOWCC.COM Well, I survived my first Derby here at Oxbow Country Club and had a great time with it. Thank you to everyone that came out and I hope everyone had a wonderful as well. Wedding season is upon us and we have some beautiful weddings and also, some really fun events coming up over the next few weeks. Looking ahead for the Food and Beverage Department, we have some exciting events coming up starting with the Americana Wine Dinner on August 4th. If you haven’t signed up for that yet, make sure you don’t miss out on this one. Music on the Patio has had great turnouts and some awesome music and we look to continue the fun on August 6th and August 20th. It’s also getting to be back to school time, which means we’ll, unfortunately, be losing some of our staff. Never fear, we’ve been planning for this for a while. You will still see a lot of familiar faces and maybe a few new ones here and there. -Tedd Merrill

Events Coordinator Update THERESA KEIMIG

NEWS FROM THE FAIRWAY David Wood Superintendant david@oxbowcc.com

We talk about many cultural practices that happen throughout the year to the greens: aeration, vertical cutting and topdressing. Sand topdressing of greens is one of the most important, there are several reasons why this practice is important. Golfers will notice the smoothness of a greens surface that is regularly topdressed. From an agronomic side there are two additional reasons: diluting organic matter (O.M.) and thatch management. Diluting O.M. is important to maintain the water percolation rate of the sand medium, preserving oxygen levels and enabling root development. Thatch management is needed to prevent scalping the grass plants. Plus helping with the firmness and ball mark damage. The frequency and amount of sand applied is to match the growth rate of the plants. This season we have made an effort to incorporate more sand into the approaches to improve these surfaces also. See you on the course. -David Wood

Chef's Corner SCOTT MOTSCHENBACHER EXECUTIVE CHEF CHEF@OXBOWCC.COM

Hello, Oxbow! I hope you have been enjoying your summer at your club. We had a GREAT July! Now we get to look forward to August. One of the first things that we will have is our Americana wine dinner. This dinner will be capped at 30 people. Be sure to sign up ASAP. We were not able to do many wine dinners last year. So, we are going to make up for it this year! We still have plenty of openings for our kid’s camps. I was very fortunate to be able to judge a kid’s Iron Chef competition this year. They decorated sugar cookies. The secret ingredient was cheese! Have you ever had the opportunity to have a sugar cookie with whip cream, chocolate chips, blueberries, and shredded cheese?? I have!! It’s an absolute MUST😊 the kids were super pumped on it! They all did a great job! All the kid’s camps that we have hosted have been great. This year though, the kids seem to enjoy it more than ever. Get those kiddos signed up! I want to talk about member satisfaction. I recently had someone get an order to-go. The order was beyond wrong when it was sent out. The person that had ordered it felt the need to call me and let me know. I was shaken to say the least. The person that prepared the order was at the time my second in command. After a little investigating I found there was a ton of negligence on his part. Therefore, I had to take the action of terminating his employment with Oxbow. I hold our culinary staff to a higher standard than anywhere else I have been employed. The bottom line for me, is, if it’s wrong it’s wrong. I hold myself and my staff accountable for our mistakes. That being said, if you ever feel that your food is not up to the Oxbow standard… Send it back. Please, please, please give me the feedback. You don’t get to have a sub-par culinary experience at your club. This is very important to me. If we are going to have the best course in North Dakota we are going to have the food to match! My email is chef@oxbowcc.com

Recipe of the Month: Candied Bacon For this month’s recipe I want to share my candied bacon recipe. I was recently called out about a particular sandwich we had on the menu last summer that had candied bacon. The chipotle chicken sandwich. I owned that mistake. If you order the sandwich, ask for it with the candied bacon. You won’t be disappointed! Ingredients: Strips of bacon (however many you want) 1 teaspoon brown sugar 1 pinch of cayenne pepper 1 pinch of kosher salt Procedure: On a lipped sheet tray lay a piece of parchment paper and add your bacon. Sprinkle the brown sugar, cayenne, and salt on each strip. Bake for 15-18 minutes at 350 degrees.
