January was a great month here at Oxbow! Although January is typically our slowest month of the year, we had so many of you bring the kids down to the club for sledding and skating. Don’t forget that once we get some more snow on the ground, we have a great trail around the course. It’s perfect for cross country skiing and snowshoeing! As we transition in to February, we continue to plan for the season ahead, while also finalizing events for the next two months of the off-season. Even though thoughts of golf may not be on the forefront, we have already had twelve membership inquiries in the month of January! Word is getting around about our new course and clubhouse. Continuing to grow our membership is vital to the club. It enables us to keep our dues and fees much lower than our competition. Later this month, we will be unveiling our new member collateral. It will be available for all members to share with friends and colleagues. In the meantime, if you have anyone you know who may be interested in membership at Oxbow, just call or shoot me a note. I would be happy to forward you membership information to share. Looking ahead to summer, we are thrilled to announce that Oxbow will start having week-long Kids Camps at the club! These camps will be run by certified camp directors, and will be available to children ages 4 – 10. More information will be coming in the following weeks. This is just one more step in our ongoing efforts to make Oxbow CC a place for the entire family to enjoy. Please stay tuned to your newsletters and emails for details. The new clubhouse construction continues to move along at a good pace. You can see how much has been completed over the past few months on the cover of the newsletter. Currently, we are finalizing landscaping plans, as well as completing bid reviews for security system, audio/visual, and IT. Our goal is to ensure our new clubhouse can deliver all of the amenities our members expect both now and for the foreseeable future. Lastly, just a reminder that 2016 will be our last year in the current clubhouse and playing our current course. Both have been here since 1975. Although the course has had minor changes over that time, it is still extremely similar to the original course. Our new course will be amazing, and our new clubhouse equally as great. It is strange for some to think of Oxbow without the big red barn-shaped clubhouse, complete with silo. During this last season, we will display some artifacts and photos around the club for members to view. We will share some fun facts and stories about the original course and clubhouse in our upcoming newsletters as well. Thanks to all of our members for your support of Oxbow. I hope to see you soon. Hello, Oxbow Members! Punxsutawney Phil brought wonderful news on Groundhog Day he did NOT see his shadow. This means that he has “predicted” an early spring. What welcome news to golfers everywhere! If his premonition comes true, we could be golfing as early as St. Patrick’s Day! I’m not holding my breath, but an early spring is certainly a happy thought to entertain.

Salt & Pepper to Taste

This off-season, we have been working on making exciting changes to our Wine and Drink Menu. Our resident mixologist, Jennifer Kleine, has come up with a tasty new cocktail menu. A few selections from the new menu are the Twhisky, the Raspberry Picante, and the Butterscotch Espresso. Jennifer has also created a few specialty martinis for you to sip while enjoying our Valentine’s Dinner on Saturday, February 13th. Chef James’ four-course Valentine’s Menu is delicious--check out more details on Page 7. Be sure to make your reservations early by calling the club or emailing me at Jake@oxbowcc.com.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix everything together in a large mixing bowl. Place in dish to bake. Bake 20-30 minutes. Half-way through, sprinkle shredded cheddar on top. Enjoy!

Our main focus this time of year is sharpening all the mowers and making necessary repairs to keep everything running smoothly in the summer months. Oxbow’s Maintenance Mechanic, Dewayne Clark, is concentrating on the long term care of the mowers and carts. This includes oil changes, greasing bearings, fixing hydraulic issues, and maintaining all safety equipment on the machines. Ben Arvidson, Assistant Superintendent, is responsible for cleaning and sharpening all the green, tee, and fairway reel mowers. There are over 80 cutting reels and bed knives that are disassembled and sharpened before the mower is ready for use. When done properly, the mower will remain sharp throughout the coming golf season. With the recent mild temperatures we have been having, maintaining the ice rink has been a challenge. The frequent thawing and refreezing has created a poor ice surface. I do not recommend using the rink when the ice is not frozen solid. We will resurface the skating area when temperatures are below 32. See you on the course!

Hello Everyone! As I write this, it is a beautiful January day. I think we hit temperatures in the 40’s! I don’t know about you, but that sure gives me the golfing bug. For those of who you who are eager to keep up your golf game during the off-season, let me offer a few tips: Putting – This is probably the easiest thing you can do. Any flat, carpeted surface that has a nice roll to it will do. As for a target, I recommend putting to a quarter or other small coin. This will give you a narrowed focus on your target. Chipping – If you have a little more space, you can safely practice your chipping in the house! There are a number of chipping nets you can buy. This is one of my favorite things to do in the off-season. Full Swing – This one might be a little more challenging in the house. If you have high ceilings or some space in your garage, you can practice your full swing. This is a great way for you to stay connected to the feel of the swing and the proper grip. Swinging weighted clubs will also help with your hand and forearm strength. 2016 is shaping up to be great year for golf. Mark your calendar NOW for our summer tournaments (found to the right). A calendar can be found online at oxbowcc.com as well. We’ll be golfing again before you know it! 5
