We have been moving along with the new nine holes, and every day it begins to look a little more like a golf course. The construction will continue to accelerate as the summer unfolds, and I appreciate everyone who was able to come out for a tour with course architect Bruce Charlton a few weekends ago. We will be having more tours like this for the membership later in the year, so you can understand first-hand how the golf course is planned and built. Our clubhouse is also beginning to take shape. I have been meeting with various committees, including pool and interior design, as we continue to move forward with getting this project off the ground. It is exciting to see the inside finally start coming to life, and we will eventually have interior renderings for the membership to view. Please remember to check our online events calendar for open dates on Mondays and Tuesdays. I know many members are under the assumption that every Monday is booked with an outside event. That is not the case. Although many Mondays and Tuesdays have afternoon events that take up the course, we also have open dates in the calendar so that you can come enjoy some golf in the early part of the week. I would like to welcome our new Assistant Golf Pro Randy Gresh to the Oxbow team! You will see a bio of Randy later in the newsletter; we are excited to add someone with his experience to our team, as well as someone who is a native of North Dakota. Next time you stop by the club, please welcome him to your club.
TOM KEPPEL CONTROLLER Also, please remember it is not too late to refer your friends and colACCOUNTING@OXBOWCC.COM; EXT. 10 leagues to Oxbow. It is sometimes hard to remember that summer only officially began a little over a week ago. We are still offering the $250 JOHN DAHL, PGA member credit to anyone who refers a member to our club. As I always HEAD GOLF PRO say, by far our best recruitment method is word of mouth and referrals JDGOLF@OXBOWCC.COM from our members. I hope everyone has a safe and fun 4th of July! This past month, we have seen dramatic improvements in the greens and fairways from all of the winter damage. We did not incorporate any new seed to assist in the healing process to the greens that were damaged . With the damaged areas as small as they were, it is difficult to incorporate without disrupting large areas of the putting surfaces. We have found that seeding into small, damaged areas on a green that is open for play can be challenging. So I choose the route of heavy fertilization and not applying any growth regulators. With the greens healed in, we are now starting to groom and vertical cut the lateral growth while thinning out the surfaces. Growth regulators will be applied to help increase green speed and consistency. We have had the new walking greens mowers in use now for a month and are impressed with how they mow.
Fairway damage recovery has been helped along with the timely rains through June. We will continue to seed into the thin areas to improve their playability. Please keep carts off damaged areas.
The new course construction is continuing with work being done on holes 11, 12, and 16. Golf hole 12 has all the sprinkler heads buried and drainage installed. Topsoil will be spread and a final grade completed before seeding. On Hole 11, the drainage has also been installed and irrigation work should be finished by the beginning of July. On Hole 16, the shaping is about finConstruction of New 18th Tee Bridge ished and drainage work is ongoing. Irrigation will begin this week.
We have began to fill the irrigation lake and work is continuing on the pumping station with the goal of having that operational by mid July. Once that is completed, our contractor will begin to flush and test all the installed sprinklers. Planting grass will then follow. We are hoping for a dry July and August so work can continue at a steady pace for the new course. Irrigation Pump Station
See you on the course. David Wood 5
What a great June it was for golf! We kicked off June with a great showing of junior golfers with over 50 kids participating in our week-long Junior Golf Camp. Each week, Monday through Wednesday, we offer Junior Golf League, which also brings a great group of kids to compete. We will also start the new PGA junior golf league starting on Sunday evenings throughout the rest of the summer. We have already hosted a number of great outside events: Junior championships, the North Dakota State Stroke play championship, as well as the fifth annual Battle at the Bow. The Battle at the Bow was a full field of a 120 golfers consisting of members and guests from all over the country. Congratulations to DJ Rieger and Chad Niles for winning the battle shootout in front of a great crowd of spectators. It was a great run for the wild card team of Rock Messerschmidt and John Kearns, who finished second in the battle. Thanks to everyone who participated and came out to make it a great weekend! It was a great weekend for Oxbow members at the North Dakota State Stroke play on June 27 th and 28th. Greg Melhus took home the championship title and Mike Podolak won the senior division. We have some exciting events coming up in July! This week, we have the 4th of July Best Ball. Enjoy a fun tournament Saturday morning and celebrate the Holiday at your club. Call the pro shop with your two person team by Friday the 3rd to play. The winning team earns a spot in the Derby on July 18 th. There are still 25 spots open for the Derby on July 18th, so get your partner and sign up today before it’s too late! It’s always a fun tournament to participate in and watch. We hope to see everyone there! Keep in mind the Oxbow Best Ball will be taking place on August 1 st and 2nd It is an open tournament, so tell your friends and family to sign up to play your great course, and of course sign up yourselves to beat them. Remember couples’ golf happens every Friday at 6:00 PM, so come on out for a fun night of golfing and socializing every weekend. The golf shop would like to welcome Randy Gresh as the first Assistant Professional to the team! He will be taking over for Josh who will be spending his final month at the club before moving to Colorado. Josh would like to thank everyone for a great experience over the past three years and hopes to get a chance to personally thank everyone who has impacted his life and career here at Oxbow. John Dahl ***Reminder – Please remember to fix your ball marks and fill in divots on your golf course!

MEET OXBOW’S NEW ASSISTANT PRO! He graduated from the University of North Dakota in 2008 with a degree in Recreation and Tourism management. Having grown up in this area he is very excited to bring his wife Kristy, and two boys, Colin and Corbin back home. “The opportunity to work at Oxbow CC came at a great time. To ensure our club runs tournaments that are fair and reputable, we will be following the USGA guidelines and forming a golf committee that will also be acting as a handicap committee. We would like to remind everyone to post all of their scores to the GHIN system, including all league and tournament rounds that are applicable. Please click on the following link and review the handicap manual to see the recommendations made by the USGA. http://usga.org/Rule-Books/Handicap-System-Manual/Handicap-Manual/ The Handicap Committee within Oxbow is responsible for all aspects of the USGA Handicap System, including the computation of each member's Handicap Index. The Handicap Committee must verify that all acceptable scores are reported for handicap purposes, and that recorded scores are available for peer review. To be eligible you must have a minimum of FIVE scores from the current year. Please look over the Equitable Score Control policy used to adjust scores being entered into the GHIN system: http://usga.org/Rule-Books/Handicap-System-Manual/Rule-04/. Remember to enter ALL of your scores if you would like to participate in any of Oxbow Country Club’s events. If you have any questions, either review the handicap manual or contact a committee member for clarification.
