All things considered this month, our golf course is in terrific condition! We cannot thank David Wood and his maintenance crew enough for their hard work and extra hours battling the wet conditions. The course is drying out nicely and I have heard many compliments about our greens and fairways. With the slow start to the year, we will have to work hard to make it up throughout the rest of the summer and into the fall. A tip of the hat to all the golf enthusiasts who play rain or shine! Membership Recruitment Other courses in our area were not as fortunate as us and many have holes under water. Help us get the word out to your friends and family that Oxbow CC is high and dry! Send your membership referrals to Sarah and me today! If they join, you receive a $250 credit on your account! Remember, guests are welcome at couple’s golf each week, monthly stagettes, and many other events. This is a great way to showcase our club to them! Thank you to our Battle at the Bow Committee Another thanks this month is due to our Battle at the Bow Committee (Jay Bartley, Roger Campbell, Mike Amundson, Darin Millar, Adam Wogsland, Logan Johnson, and Shaun Harrison)! This year’s event was our most successful to date and set a record for the most food and beverage sales at a member event! Mark your calendar now for next year’s event June 12 -14.

Head Golf Pro John Dahl, PGA

The month of June turned out to be a great month to golf even with the rain. Our junior golf camp was fun & successful with over 30 youngsters out on the course learning the game of golf. Everyone had a great time with our contests and of course, with winning different prizes. With our one day of bad weather during junior golf camp we were fortunate to be able to use the Golf Bubble which all of the children enjoyed. We would like to extend a big thank you to all of our volunteers who helped through out golf camp; Bobby Reuter & Jack Hasbrouck. We were happy to also have Brock, Liz, David, Zack, & Ryan help with the children. Our 3rd annual Battle At The Bow member-guest tournament was very successful this year. Be sure to congratulate our 2013 Battle At The Bow Champions, Roger Campbell & his guest, Dave Damberger! Another congratulations goes out to our very own Bill Carlson for winning the Bank of the West KX4 Amateur. Bill followed up this win with a first place finish in the NDGA Stroke Play tournament that was held here at Oxbow. Some club events that are coming up include the Fourth of July Best Ball (Thursday, July 4th) & Derby weekend Friday, July 26th - Sunday, July 28th. Make sure you register for those events today as they are popular & filling up fast! We have extended the date for the first round of our Summer-Long Best Ball to be completed by July 7th. We would like to welcome Josh, our newest addition to the pro-shop staff. We are very happy to have him as a part of our Oxbow CC family. He has a background in golf and is very eager to work in the pro-shop as well as meet all of you. So, make sure you stop in and introduce yourself. Also, Josh is 6’8”, incase you were wondering. Our ladies nights on Wednesday have become very popular and we enjoy seeing all you ladies out every week. Liz Strom has been helping with the ladies clinics, she is a collegiate golfer and doing a wonderful job. Every Monday - Wednesday morning from 9am - 11am is our junior golf days. We’ve been seeing more junior golfers coming out to play, be sure to call the pro-shop to register your child (ren)! Ask a pro-shop employee about our Red River Club which offers great discounts and opportunities to bring guests out to enjoy our wonderful course. Play Well! JD

*Please remember to replace ball marks & divots to keep our course in excellent condition. No one wants to hit out of a divot & everyone wants a smooth surface to putt on.

Abnormal Ground Conditions: Casual Water With all of the rain we have received lately, this is a great rule to be familiar with especially on our lower holes , 10 & 11. While golfing, your ball lands in a deep puddle & is water logged. You move it to the left of the puddle but no closer to the hole, one of the members in your group says it has to be moved behind the puddle. What do you do? Neither moving it to the left or behind the hole is correct. In taking relief from casual water, according to Rule 25-1b, the ball must be dropped, not placed. The USGA ruling states that “If the ball lies through the green the player must lift the ball and drop it, with out penalty, within one club length of & not nearer the hole than the nearest point of relief. The nearest point of relief must not be in a hazard or on the putting green. When the ball is dropped with in one club length of the nearest point of relief, the ball must first strike a part of the course at a spot that avoids interference by the condition and is not in a hazard and not on the putting green.

Superintendent David Wood With all the rain, wind and river issues that we have encountered this past month the golf course survived very well. I would like to thank the volunteers that came out after the wind storm and helped clean branches and repair the pool fence. The practice facility grow-in has improved dramatically this past month. The tee box is maturing and the thin areas are filling-in. The grass plants still need to build a more mature rooting system to withstand divoting and allow for a quick recovery. We are targeting a mid-July opening of the range tee. After reseeding the target greens several times we have established some turf cover to help hold in the topsoil and with stand the rains/erosion a little better. Not having erosion mat on the targets has hindered the establishment and growth. The putting green expansion is maturing nicely and we are lowering the height of cut down and topdressing with sand to improve the smoothness. The new portion of the green will not open at the same time as the practice tee. The chipping green is not as far along as the putting green. We had some wind erosion and disease issues during the grow-in setting it back several weeks. But it is coming along and will be open as soon as it is ready. This is a big project and big investment in our club, please be patient. Seeding has started on the construction areas (dike work) along holes 3, 4, 5, and 6. We will be out in these areas a lot watering and trying to keep the soil wet. Please keep all your carts out of these locations. After all the rains in June we focus on drainage: there are areas that have shown great improvements and areas that need improvements. July we will be addressing several areas that can be improved. See you on the course. David Wood
