BOARD OF DIRECTORS

JOEL LIVINGOOD, GENERAL MANAGER What does the country club of the future look like?

CHRIS HOLLAND - PRESIDENT DAVE CAMPBELL - VICE PRESIDENT

There has been a lot of talk and many meetings about the design of our new golf course over the last 12 TAMI HENKE - SECRETARY months. The team at Robert Trent Jones II. has JAY BARTLEY DJ REIGER worked diligently to design a golf course that I think will rival some of the best in the mid-west and withCHRIS CHAMP BRITTON MATTSON stand the test of time. The course will be enjoyable for your typical golfer (15 – 18 handicap) and friendly JEFF KRUGER JOE TALLEY for children and women, yet capable of giving the single digit handicappers all they could hope for from the back tees. What we haven’t talked a lot about yet is the design of our new clubhouse. We are just beginning discussions with the ANAGEMENT TAFF Diversion Authority on the buyout price of our current facility, but it is time to start talking about what our clubhouse and related amenities will look like.

Clubs have evolved over the years to be much more than your traditional country club with golf, tennis, lap-style swimming, and dining. Today’s clubs feature resort-style pools, child care, fitness centers, spas, teen rooms, business centers, state of the art event spaces, pickle ball courts, indoor golf practice and teaching facilities, beautiful outdoor dining spaces, and the list goes on. Now; that being said, all of those amenities aren’t necessarily right for our club, but I think we have an opportunity to think outside the box of tradition and set our club for success for many years to come. This month I wanted to share my thoughts as we think about the design of our new pool. Just seven minutes from Oxbow is the Fargo Park District’s outdoor pool at Davies High School. The pool features two large waterslides, a zero depth area with a water playground, and a climbing wall. According to Dave Klundt, Asst. Director of Recreation for the Park District, in the pool’s first year it reached its capacity of 700 patrons nearly every day. In the years since, it reaches capacity almost daily between 1 - 3 PM. I think the largest opportunity for growth in our membership is in offering similar amenities in a private club setting. The future of private clubs is in families. We have welcomed 32 new members to our club this year. Those 32 new members have an average age of 41 and 67% have at least two children. 80% of those children are 10 years of age or younger. In addition, Fargo’s south side is developing closer and closer to Oxbow each day. Homes being constructed in new Southside developments range $300K to $1 million, plus the cost of the lot and the average household income in the area is more than $80K.

ea, and trends across the country. In the coming months we will be hosting focus groups, town hall meetings, and sharing ideas for our club of the future. We are looking forward to gathering your thoughts and feedback to ensure we meet the wants and needs of our growing membership. Housekeeping: May statements will be sent by the end of the week. We appreciate your patience as we run end of month for the first time with our new software. Online tee time, bill pay, and event registration will be live for the membership around the middle of the month. We will send instructions on how to log in once everything is ready. See you at your club, Joel 2

Chef James’

That time of year is upon us, and the culinary staff is gearing up for another great summer! We’ve added a few more new faces to our team: Daniel McGuire and Lidia Broederdorf. We are all very excited to get started with the season and providing everyone with the best experience possible.

INGREDIENTS 4

Cups

Milk

4

Cups

Heavy Cream

1/2

Vanilla Bean, Split Lengthwise

1

Cinnamon Stick

3/4

Tsp

18 1 1/2

Ground Cinnamon Egg Yolks

Cup

Sugar

In a saucepan over medium heat, heat the milk, cream, vanilla, cinnamon stick and ground cinnamon, whisking occasionally to make sure the mixture doesn’t burn or stick to the bottom of the pan. When the cream mixture reaches a fast simmer (do not let it boil), turn off the heat and let the flavors infuse for 10 minutes. Whisk together the egg yolks and the sugar. In a thin stream, whisk half of the cream mixture into the egg yolk mixture. Then pour the egg-cream mixture back into the saucepan containing the rest of the cream mixture. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly with a spoon. At 160 degrees, the mixture will give off a puff of steam. When the mixture reaches 180 degrees it will be thickened and creamy, like eggnog. If you don’t have a thermometer, test it by dipping a wooden spoon into the mixture. Run your finger down the back of the spoon. If the stripe remains clear, the mixture is ready; if the edges blur, the mixture is not quite thick enough yet. When it is ready, quickly remove it from the heat. Meanwhile, in a bowl, put two handfuls of ice cubes in the bottom, and add cold water to cover. Rest a smaller bowl in the ice water. Pour the cream mixture through a fine sieve or chinois (to remove the vanilla bean pieces and cinnamon sticks) and into the smaller bowl. Chill 3 hours, then continue according to the directions of your ice cream maker.

David Wood Superintendent With the addition of our summer staff members, we have begun more of our detailed maintenance practices. Walk mowing and rolling of the greens is being accomplished during the week. Sand bunkers are raked daily and fairways mowed every day. Trimming and detail mowing is also completed more frequently. This year’s staff has a lot of new members; so there will be additional training on how tasks are completed this month. We are excited and ready for a great summer. Bruce Charlton and the Robert Trent Jones Jr. group have been working on the final grade plan for the new golf holes. This plan with an irrigation design will soon be submitted to the Army Corps of Engineers for their approval. Once this is approved, the construction bid contract will be let out to selected qualified golf course builders. We have started reviewing this contract to include all needed details for a successful project. With play increasing, we are beginning to notice more wear traffic from golf carts. The Green and Grounds Committee are asking all cart drivers to stay on the paths where they are available. Keep golf carts 50 feet from greens and DO NOT drive on the range tee. The divot bottle refill stations are located by the water cooler chests on tees #8 and #13. This is your golf course; please help us with a few easy etiquette behaviors. See you on the course. David Wood
