GENERAL MANAGER What a great September we have had here at Oxbow. This has been one of the nicest Septembers I can remember! I hope many of you were able to take advantage and enjoy the club. We had some great events this past month! Our annual glow ball event drew 30 couples for a great night of golf and socializing. Our Hot Ball event drew 72 golfers who had a great time playing in a different format. Date/Movie night came back just in time for the kids to enjoy a great night to watch a movie outside!
As we turn the page to October, the management team here is busy coming up with new ideas and events for the fall and winter months. This Saturday, we are having our cross country golf event, followed by a NDSU Bison tailgate party in the clubhouse. John has put together a challenging but fun course, and the event is open to all who would like to play. It is definitely a different way to golf Oxbow! Stay after to tailgate and watch the Bison with your friends. We will have some great tailgate food and specials, as well as a drawing at halftime for a $100 F&B member credit! National Golf Day includes some great specials, as well as a tour of the new course from David Wood. More details of these events follow in the coming pages. Please keep an eye out for new events this fall and throughout the off-season as we work to come up with fun ways to enjoy your club! Thank you to the almost 100 members who have connected with the club via Clubster! This tool allows us to better communicate with you as far as upcoming events, as well as update you with news and alerts. If you want to join Clubster, but are not sure how, please contact myself or Alison and we will be happy to assist!
I would like to welcome Jake Hughes to the Oxbow management team! Jake has taken the role of Assistant General Manager with the club. Jake moved to Fargo from the Minneapolis area, where he was the AGM of a hotel in Chanhassen. Jake is a graduate of NDSU with a degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management. He has experience in golf clubs as well as food and beverage operations. We are excited to have someone with Jake’s skills join the Oxbow team as we continue to keep improving our service to you!
The date for our annual Men’s Stag Party and Auction has been set for Thursday, November 19th. Tickets will be available shortly. We are still looking for a couple of volunteers to serve on the Stag Committee. Please call or email me if you are able to support your club by assisting with the Stag Auction!
It’s October, but that doesn’t mean that the fun is over here at Oxbow! Lots more time to golf and enjoy your club as the “season” winds down.
See you at your club, Sedi 2

- Director of Member Engagement & Events Thank you for opening up your club to happy Brides & Grooms again this year! Oxbow’s wedding season is coming to a close, but not before two more weddings in October. You’ll see our signature white event tent up one more time before the month’s end--send out good vibes for great weather! I truly appreciate your support of these non-member wedding clients. Our venue is just too beautiful NOT to share with the outside world! Don’t forget to RSVP for our events! We love hearing from you BEFORE the event happens. Help us prepare appropriately and give you a great member experience by getting your RSVPs/reservations in as soon as you can! Did you recently move? Change email addresses? Have a baby? Help us keep our information as accurate as possible. Let us know when your contact information changes. You can also make adjustments yourself on the member side of the website! Would you like to get more involved at your club? We’re looking for new faces to serve on Oxbow’s Social Committee. On average, the Social Committee meets about once a month. It’s not a huge commitment and a lot of fun! Let me know if you are interested: alison@oxbowcc.com.

Chef James’
INGREDIENTS It’s crazy to believe it’s October already--summer flew by! The culinary staff and I are gearing up to start working on the new menu for this winter. Some of the new items have been specials in the last two months. We are very excited to get to work on it! This month’s recipe is a family favorite. I’ve made a few changes for my taste; but for the most part, this is my great grandma’s recipe. I hope your family enjoys it as much as mine does.

Preheat oven to 350F. Grease a 9 inch bundt pan. In a large bowl, beat the sugar, oil, vanilla, and eggs with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Combine the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt. Stir into the batter just until blended. Fold in apples and walnuts using a spoon. Pour into prepared pan. Bake for 1 hour and 20 minutes in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the crown of the cake comes out clean. Allow to cool for about 20 minutes, then invert onto a wire rack. Make the glaze by heating the butter, milk, and brown sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil, stirring to dissolve the sugar, then remove from the heat. Drizzle over the warm cake.
Hello, Oxbow! I have had the pleasure of meeting some of you, but not all. My name is Jake Hughes and I am the new Assistant General Manager of your Club. A little background on myself: I am an NDSU graduate of the Hospitality Program. While attending my last year of schooling, I helped open the Hilton Garden Inn - Fargo. After that, I got the opportunity to be the Lodging Manager at a semi-private golf resort in Valentine, Nebraska called The Prairie Club. Following my time in Nebraska, I worked at the Country Inn and Suites in Chanhassen, MN as their Assistant General Manager for 3.5 years. There, I increased their service scores to the top of the brand. I look forward to bringing that experience here and giving the members the best service we can. I am getting married in November to my fiancée, Clare, who works for The Clubhouse Inn and Suites being built across from Scheels. I enjoy cooking, trying new restaurants, watching Bison Football and Wild Hockey, and traveling as much as I can. I look forward to getting to know all of you. Please contact me for any ideas/comments to make this the club you want it to be!
With staffing levels low this time of the year, our focus will be on removing and mulching the falling leaves. This can be a three-person job, depending on the wind conditions. Our goal is to move all the leaf debris into the rough to keep the pace of play moving and prevent lost golf balls. Winter preparations for the course will also begin soon. At the end of the month, irrigation lines will be purged to prevent any ice damage from occurring over the winter. This process normally takes two days to be done thoroughly. After the irrigation system is winterized, plant protectants will be applied to the greens, tees, and the fairways to help prevent snow mold fungus from causing damage during the snow cover. Last month, Landscapes Unlimited began seeding the first new holes. We are seeing good germination and growth in the irrigated areas on holes 11,12, 16, and 17. The greens on holes 11 and 12 have been mowed and look good. Holes 10, 15, and 18 have been seeded and will be mulched to protect against the upcoming winter. New course construction continues on holes 18, 9, and the practice green and tee areas. Sunday, October 4 th, at 11:00 AM we will be hosting a tour of the new nine golf holes. Please come out and see the progress! With the potential for frost on the grass in the mornings, I would like to remind everyone to keep their golf carts off the course if temperatures are in the thirties. Please check in with the Pro Shop before going out to play on the practice green. Frost can form on the grass even if the air temperature is above 32 degrees. See you on the course, David Wood

Some of the highlights of September included the Ladies’ Invitational, Couples’ Glow Ball, the Hot Ball, League Playoffs, and the Men’s Day Derby. The Ladies’ Invitational was a great event with great weather! Lee Ann Townsend and Susan Kenney finished with the victory in the gross division. Joan Kritzberger and Joyce Olson placed first in the net division. The Couples’ Glow Ball was an awesome event. Thank you to all who participated! The weather was great and fun was had by all. It came down to a scorecard playoff for first. It was Scott and Shawna Differding, Chris and Heidi Holland, and Greg and Jessica Stephens with the win. September also played host to the Hot Ball--a fun event with a unique format! Congratulations to the winning team of Bill Short, Wendy Frappier, Shawn Sperle, and John Fetsch. Another highlight for the month was the Men’s Day Derby. It was a battle throughout the season and came right down the end. The last man standing was Paul Benson. Congratulations, Paul! League came to a close in September and it was a tight race all the way to the end. Both the men’s and ladies’ divisions came down to a playoff on hole 18 for the title. The Fairway Gals (Mae Tonsfeldt, Cindy Fischer, and Deb Schneibel) came out on top for the ladies and the D.C.’s (Rusty Halvorson, Taylor Cavanagh, Nick Lakoduk, Matt Parker, Jim Tallakson, and Jon Shilling) took the victory in the men’s division. Great season by everyone! As we move into October, the events are winding down but we still have some fun things planned. Saturday, October 3rd, will be the Cross Country Scramble. This is a 4-Person scramble event that lets you see the golf course in a whole new way. Don’t miss out! Call the golf shop and reserve your spot today! We will close the month with the Jack O’ Lantern event on the 31st. As always, stop in the Pro Shop to check out the latest fall apparel and many other great items! Happy Golfing, Everyone- Golf Shop Team
Reminder: all credit must be used in the Pro Shop by Saturday, October 31st!
