Joel Livingood It is hard to believe it’s already September! As many of our seasonal staff members head back to school, we want to thank them for their hard work and dedication to our club. August was every bit as strong as projected and contributed nicely to revenues in all areas. With most of our outside golf event business and club organized golf events in the books for the year, the golf course will be very accessible for the balance of the season. Some of the best golf is yet to be played! Hours of service for the food and beverage operation will be modified to accommodate the flow of business in the next few weeks. In September, the Grill will open at 9 am during the week and 7 am on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Menu service will be available from 11 am to 9 pm. On the 30th, the grill will begin opening at 10 am. We will continue a’la carte breakfast in the grill on Saturday and Sunday (7 am – 11 am) through the 22nd. We will be running a beverage cart Thursday – Sunday, so if you play earlier in the week, remember to ask our grill staff to pack you a cooler. The Bend hours of operation will remain the same, but watch my weekly message for changes due to weddings and other private events. The pool will remain open with no lifeguard on duty as long as day time highs remain consistently in the 70s so take advantage of the warm days to get one last splash! Progress on the diversion and Oxbow-area ring dike are progressing. The future of our club is very exciting! A memorandum of understanding has been signed by the City of Oxbow and Diversion Authority outlining the project. In addition, land has been acquired for an expanded development, new golf holes, and clubhouse. We are in conversations with the Diversion Authority, City of Oxbow, Bruce Charlton of Robert Trent Jones II., and various other parties about the next steps of the project. We will keep you all informed and involved as details develop and plans are set in motion. Thank you for your continued membership support and patronage. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. We look forward to being of further service to you, and hope you continue to enjoy the many benefits of membership.
See you at the club, Joel

August was a busy month on the golf course. It started with The Oxbow Best Ball. Lots of members played with Greg Melhus/Connor Holland winning gross and Bill Sholl/Brett Clark, Dave Barge/Jon Anas, And Rich Menze/Jim Tallakson tieing for net. The Parent-Child Tournament was on August 11th. Many teams played with these winners in each division: 12 and over: 1st - Leo and Jackson Worner; 2nd - Maddie Braaten and Britton Mattson 3rd - Tony and Laura Cain 10-11 year olds: 1st - Zach and Steve Kluvers, 2nd - Parker and Kory Bartels 3rd- Sam and Tami Henke Under 10: 1st- Hunter and Mike Bindas. 2nd – Jayce and Paul Johnson 2013 Stag Day will finish up on September 12th. On the 19th at 5:00 PM there will be a Derby Shoot-Out for the top 10 member money leaders. It is Winner take all!! There will be a Stag game on Men’s Day throughout September. Ladies’ and Men’s League will be finished for the season on September 10th. For Women’s League: Fairway Gals and Golf Bags are playing for 1st. Men’s League: Dew Sweepers and Team Noonan will be competing. Starting in September, the Pro Shop will be opening at 9:00 during the week. On Weekends, the Course and Pro Shop will open at 7:30. In the Pro Shop we have Men’s Gear fleece for fall and Under Armour women’s and junior’s fleece. Foot Joy shoes are now 20% off. Here’s to a long and beautiful fall of golf! Play Well, -JD
Superintendent David Wood Our seasonal staff has returned to school for the fall. So our maintenance practices will be adjusted to staffing levels. Walk mowing of the greens is done for the year and mowing all 18 fairways is only completed on Thursdays. Sand bunker maintenance and trim mowing are scaled back to several times a week now. Fall aerification will begin for greens and tee boxes. In the past we normally do this in the spring but due to cool temperatures and excessive rain we were forced to postpone. Again this year we will have the deep tine aerator for the greens. This aeration penetrates the root zone approximately 10 inches. Aerating this deep promotes improved water and air movement through the soil. We will be closing the course on September 3-4th to get this process done. For the tees a hollow core aerator tines will be used. This type of aeration removes a 3 inch core of soil/thatch and turf. The main purpose of this type of aerator is thatch management. This will take about two days for tee boxes with minimal disruption due to the high sand content of the root zone mix. We still have some restoral work to do on the course from dike construction this spring. There are several areas where the seed germination rate was low. With the cooler temperatures coming this is the preferred time for turf establishment. Inter-seeding and some drainage work will continue into the fall. See you on the course. David Wood
