EVENT CALENDAR
From the General Manager I hope everyone had a great month of August! It was certainly a busy month here at your club, with lots going on all throughout the month. I hope you have had time to enjoy the golf course, it truly is in amazing shape, and we were certainly very thankful to finally get some rain! As we move in to September, we have so much in store for you, including Kids Night, the Pooch Pool Party, Ladies Invitational, everyone’s favorite GLOW BALL, and one of my favorites, Outdoor Movie Night. Daily, we still have a few more days of pool season left, and of course plenty of golf throughout the month. Pool Overall we had a very good pool season. Our mechanical systems worked much better than last year, keeping the pools warm all season. We also were able to keep up with any repairs needed in a timely fashion, to reduce or eliminate member impact. I would like to thank David and Jesse for their work with this all year. One thing we will fix after the season is the large umbrellas on the pool deck, or Funbrellas. Our new canopies came in a couple of weeks ago. However, we need a few days to repair the wind damaged bows and braces on both umbrellas. That wind storm was the highest wind speeds I have seen out here at Oxbow, and did some damage we never anticipated. We will do this after the pool closes for the season, and we will have them good as new for 2022. I do apologize for the rips and tears in the canopies. Also, toward the end of the season, we had some bee and wasp friends decide to join us at the pool. I have contacted a pest control company, and we will get ahead of it next year, so that you are not inconvenienced by this. Beyond that, I hope everyone enjoyed time at the pool this year, and I want to thank our lifeguards and pool F&B team for their work this summer! 4
MANAGER'S MESSAGE Sedi Halvorson Sedi@oxbowcc.com
COVID I know this is everyone’s favorite subject… We are monitoring state and local news to see if any changes will be mandated like last year. At this time, we have not changed any operating standards. Please note that we do have masks once again available at the clubhouse, should you ever want to use one. They are located right inside the main member entrance, by Aja’s desk. We will of course keep everyone advised of any changes necessary to comply with local mandates. September Hours With the later sunrise and earlier sunsets, our golf course and clubhouse opening times move up just a bit during the month of September. Starting Tuesday, September 7th, the golf course tee sheet begins at 9am during the week (noon on Mondays), and 8am on weekends. The clubhouse and golf shop will open at 8:30am during the week (11:30AM Mondays), and 7:30am on weekends. These hours will remain in effect until October 3rd. I truly hope all of our members have had a great summer here at Oxbow! It was great to be back to “normal” this year, and hopefully that continues. I am excited for all of our upcoming member events, and can’t wait to show you what we have in store for you for the off-season!Aja and the team have come up with some great new ideas to engage everyone this winter, (not that anyone wants to think about winter yet), but we are already in the final planning stages. CLUBHOUSE UPDATE Kyle Millar Clubhouse Manager kyle@oxbowcc.com
We wait all summer long for some rain and we finally get it in August! Better late than never, I guess. It is unfortunate that the weather seems to be already changing with pool season coming to an end, but that just means we are one step closer to fall. One step closer to football, tailgating, and warm fires on chilly nights. While I am sad to see summer ending, fall is my favorite time of year. August was a little quiet for member events. We started out with our Americana Wine Dinner with Chef offering up some exquisite dishes in his five-course meal paired beautifully with some wine selections from our friends over at Republic. Thomas Thiel, of Republic, was also on hand to pour wine and explain each bottle’s back story. It really added to the night and I believe the members thoroughly enjoyed themselves. If you have not had a chance to join us for one of our wine dinners, I highly recommend that you do. We also did our best to showcase the pool a few more times. We had an adults only pool party early in the month with some delicious food and live music. That same weekend we had our Pirates and Mermaids pool party. It was a great chance to bring out the whole family. We had a great summer buffet and a DJ to keep the party going throughout the afternoon. Then we featured a Dive-in-Movie for the kids halfway through the month. We might have to plan this event a little later in the month as sunset didn’t allow us to get started at the time we wanted to. The kids still had a great time though. Even with all the things I mentioned, I would have to say that the August golf tournaments took up most of my free time. We did six golf tournaments in August! They ranged from 45 participants all the way up to 160. A lot goes into these events too. Set up and preparations always start a day or two in advance. We also have to make sure we have enough bodies around to take care of everything too. Everything considered, all the tournaments went really well and participants and staff alike had a great time! As strange as it sounds, the fast-paced craziness is what I enjoy the most with them. I’m looking forward to the few tournaments we still have coming up in September, especially with the pool closing the first week. -Kyle

Food & Bev. Update TEDD MERRILL FOOD & BEVERAGE MANAGER TEDD@OXBOWCC.COM We made it through most of the dog days of summer thus far and we’re still going strong. Sadly, it’s the end of the pool season and the kids are getting back to school. As summer comes to a close and fall begins, it’s now time for my favorite time of year, Football Season! Make sure to come out on Sundays and watch my Tampa Bay Buccaneers try to repeat as Super Bowl Champions, and I guess come watch the Vikings and Packers play too. We’re going to have some great drink specials for NDSU and NFL games. It’s going to be a fun fall season. We’re also having a Farm to Fairway Dinner on September 25th. If you haven’t signed up for that it’s going to be an awesome time, so don’t miss out. -Tedd Merrill
Events Coordinator Update THERESA KEIMIG

Get out your sweaters! Like it or not pumpkin spice season is upon us! Fall is my absolute favorite time of year, evenings spent by the fireplace with family are the best. Fall is also a little sad around Oxbow as our summer staff returns to school, some as students and some as staff. So as the weather is getting cooler, and the evenings shorter, let’s make it an autumn to remember! If you’re thinking about hosting an event big or small give me a call or send me an email. I would love to help you create some lasting memories with family and friends. Let us take care of the setup and cleanup while you enjoy time with your guests. We have plenty of hot cocoa for everyone. Theresa 14
NEWS FROM THE FAIRWAY David Wood Superintendant david@oxbowcc.com
Preparing the golf course every morning for play involves numerous staff members and different pieces of equipment doing a variety of jobs. One of the daily assignments is tee service. Tee service staff set tee markers for the day, collect garbage, fill water coolers and divot bottles, fill divots and cleanup broken tees. This job is one of the first jobs that new employees are trained to help acclimate the staff member to the golf course layout and the basics of golf course maintenance. Oxbow has been fortunate this year to have about a half dozen staff that have taken on this duty and have done an exceptional job. With college and high school starting up our available labor has decreased significantly. We will be adjusting our mowing routines based on staff availability. Some areas that are normally mowed during the week will be mowed on weekends. Another change implemented has been the application of plant growth regulators to certain areas of the course. We have seen a noticeable improvement of the playing surfaces and reduction in the clipping yield on tees, approaches and fairways since starting the applications. With the end goal to reduce the amount of time mowing and still have a high-quality course. See you on the course. David Wood
Please remember to repair your ball marks. As a general rule, a ball mark repaired within 10 minutes will heal with a smooth surface within two to three days. An unrepaired ball mark may take as long as three weeks to heal, but the result will be an uneven surface.

Chef's Corner SCOTT MOTSCHENBACHER EXECUTIVE CHEF CHEF@OXBOWCC.COM
Hello, Oxbow! Time sure does fly here. It seems like we just opened the pool. Now it’s almost time to bid bon voyage for 9 months. Speaking of how time flies, this month I celebrate my 5-year anniversary with Oxbow! It certainly doesn’t feel like 5 years. It has been the best years of my career. I’ve met a ton of great people at Oxbow. Most of which I can call my friend. You don’t get that working anywhere else as a chef. Cheers to 5 more (if you’ll have me)! Now that pool season is almost over, and kids are back in school that means the fall menu is on its way. This is my favorite season when it comes to flavors. We will be bringing back some of the club’s favorites. Fresh pastas, meatloaf, all the heavy hitters. I always want to hear from you. Before any menu rolls out, we have a house committee meeting to taste everything, and decide what is on the menu. This is not a secret club within the club. Anyone can be on the house committee. I urge anyone that enjoys dining at Oxbow to join! Last month I mentioned the supply chain. So far, we have stayed above the curve on this. There were a couple times I couldn’t source chicken strips. That was rather frightening. I was able to bridge that gap thankfully! Things seem to be settling back down. The pandemic has certainly put a strain on many things though. One big thing is staff. I’ve mentioned it in previous newsletters. I have lost some people but have been fortunate enough to find people. One big time person is Joseph Thompson. If you have been a part of Oxbow long enough you might recognize the name. He was at one point my sous chef (second in command). He is one of the most creative chefs I know. He is still getting his feet wet currently. He took a hiatus from cooking for about 3 years. He is back and ready to cook! I also brought on an intern! Her name is Karolyn and is very interested in going to culinary school. She reached out to me a while ago about an internship. She felt it necessary to work in a REAL kitchen before making the leap to culinary school. Her siblings are pumped that they have an “in” to golf at Oxbow😊

September is my favorite month for a couple of reasons this year. The first is celebrating my 5-year anniversary. It’s a time to reflect on everything we have done. The second is that I take my vacation. I take my vacation to recharge after a busy summer. The third is I will be attending a chef symposium in Kentucky. That’s right! Kentucky, the home of bourbon. Among the many professional development classes I will be taking, I will also tour the Buffalo Trace Distillery! I hope to bring back a ton of new ideas for our club!
Recipe of the Month: Old-Fashioned For this month’s recipe I want to share my old-fashioned recipe. Considering my tour of Buffalo Trace I thought it to be applicable. To me, this recipe can be somewhat of an entry level drink to bourbon. It also appeals to the bourbon fans. Ingredients: 1 orange wedge 1 maraschino cherry 1 sugar cube 2oz bourbon (I like Bulleit) 2oz soda water Procedure: In a shaker glass add your orange, cherry, sugar and muddle. When you muddle only muddle the orange segments. If you muddle the peel and the pith you will get a bitter flavor. Now add your bourbon and soda water. Shake and strain. Enjoy with a good friend!

GOLF SHOP UPDATE Corey Herlickson Head Golf Professional corey@oxbowcc.com
We have had an incredible year for sales in the golf shop. As always, the golf shop team continues to look for up and coming lines as well as lines that you will not find in any other golf shop in the area. We will be meeting with our clothing sales reps in early October to purchase apparel for next spring and summer. We will also be looking for items to bring into the golf shop for the holidays. Stay tuned… We have a busy schedule in September for you. On Labor Day we have Patriot Golf Day. This is a two-person better ball event that is played using tee times. You can play any time of the day. $5 of each entry fee will be sent to the Fold of Honor, which is a charity that gives scholarships to soldiers that have served in war or to their children, if the parent died while serving. It is a worthy cause started by a PGA Member and a Captain in the US Army. On the 8th we host our Ladies Invitational, which is an open tournament that any female can play in. On the 10th we have our Couples Glow Ball Tournament. It is always well attended and ends Couples Night with a bang! On the 18th we have our Hot Ball Tournament which is a three-person scramble with a Hot Ball score thrown in as well. We are very short staffed outside and continue to look for applicants on various employment sites, but we have not had many applications. We want to make you aware that our service level will have to dip a little bit due to the golf professionals having to work outside to fill the role of those that have gone off to college and high school. It just means we may not be as present in the golf shop as normal. When present however, the golf professionals will be ever ready to meet and exceed your expectations. As always Peggy will be crushing it for us in the golf shop! If you could use your golf shop credit this fall, it would really help us when it comes to buying for the 2021 season. We try to do our best to bring in the best lines and newest trends each year. A part of that is making sure we turnover our inventory. Please assist us in turning the inventory over by using your golf shop merchandise credit. -Corey
