GENDER JUSTICE ONLINE LEARNING SERIES An Introduction
MAKING ONLINE LEARNING PART OF YOUR GENDER JUSTICE TOOLKIT We’re excited about the new Gender Justice Online Learning Series and want to help you use this course as a key tool in your work to build greater Gender awareness and skills. Here are a few ideas: Hold a Gender Justice @ Oxfam launch week (or month) – where people in your office are encouraged to take action for gender justice by taking the new online learning course. Work with your Country Director, Regional Director, Divisional Director or Executive Director (as appropriate) – as well as the Gender Advisors or Gender Focal Points in your office to promote the course widely. Work closely with HR and Learning & Organizational Development colleagues in your office to integrate the Gender Justice @ Oxfam online course into all new staff inductions Recognize all staff that completed the training. Create a virtual space on SUMUS, your affiliate intranet, or even on a wall in your office to recognize staff that completed the training. Ideally, they should sign their name upon completion – then the list is called out by senior leadership. Make it a competition (either between program, operational and other office teams or between individuals) and incentivize! Reward staff with a free lunch or small giftespecially, if they can answer a course knowledge question in a staff meeting (e.g. define “gender” or answer the question “what is violence against women?”) The Gender Justice Online Learning Series is a self-guided learning process, and can be done from any computer in the world. However, it is also beneficial to follow up with face to face discussions, further trainings and/or conversations to allow people to build on the knowledge learned in the online learning. Use the online course as ‘pre-work’ for planned face to face training sessions. It could also serve as pre-work before an away day, conference or retreat, to build a foundation to feed into relevant discussion topics. If you have extended time with a team, you can break the online learning into sections and do it one lesson at a time. Encourage staff to take the online learning course in pairs or small groups. This adds a whole different level of richness, interaction and dialogue to the experience. Have other ideas? We want to hear from you… Let Oxfam’s Women’s Rights Capacity Development team know how you’re using the online learning in your office. Send us stories, quotes from staff and photos from launch events or follow-up meeting. Let us know what staff think about the course! Email:(Jemma Stringer) jstringer@oxfam.org.uk.
