Clowning Masterclass

Online classes via Zoom

Video workshop available on the OP website

We’re back for another term of Zooming! For anyone aged 26 and over interested in exploring and enjoying the ways into theatre-making.

In this video masterclass OP looks to introduce theatrical clowning as a level of play, where boundaries are broken and mistakes are eagerly encouraged.

Across the term, we will be working with a variety of performance skills where participants can discover and progress their enthusiasm in a friendly and collaborative setting. Members will be working towards a performance that will be shared with family and friends at the end of term.

Skills and exercises covered are designed to support those who are developing and chipping away at their craft as an artist, practitioner or facilitator. OP clowning favourite, Mark Curtis, also offers insight based on his experience of using clowning for engagement with young people.

Following on from last year’s successful project, OP is delighted to be working on a new Tea Talks project for 2021. In partnership with AgeUK Oxfordshire, we are inviting local later-in-life (60+) residents to join a member of our team for a cup of tea and a chat over the phone. We love connecting with people…if you are feeling alone and isolated during these strange times, or just fancy a chat, our friendly team are on hand to pick up the phone to talk to you. We’d like to listen to your life stories; hear about your greatest achievements; share your funniest jokes and you may like to hear ours too! Tea Talks is a great way to make a new friend and find creative interests in a climate that can often feel isolating. Oxford Playhouse works throughout the year with schools and teachers to bring the classroom curriculum to life through creative activities, workshops and teacher training opportunities. For pupils and students in primary, secondary and further education, we seek to inspire creativity and passion in every young person through our regular and bespoke schemes.

Digital playwriting workshops in your classroom

Primary Playmaker is going digital – our most popular scheme for primary schools to help bring literacy to life in your classroom through playwriting. A series of ten workshops ideal for Year 5 or 6 pupils, this is a unique opportunity for pupils to learn how to conceive and write their own short play and understand the development process which leads to a professional production. A selection of your pupils’ plays will be performed to your pupils by a troupe of professional actors later in the year. If you’re interested in signing up your school for Primary Playmaker, email: learning@oxfordplayhouse.com

Supporting year-round creativity in your classrooms Across the Spring term, the Oxford Playhouse Participation team will be hosting an online consultation with teachers from both primary and secondary settings to understand how our theatre can help to inspire and engage pupils across the school year. Through a series of Zoom workshops and online questionnaires, our team hopes to understand the potential for ways that OP can help teachers and pupils access a more regular and creative curriculum. We intend to use this learning to develop the programme of workshops, CPD and performances that OP wlll offer in the future, as well as explore ideas around an annual membership scheme for schools. To join in with our consultation, email: learning@oxfordplayhouse.com Dates: Tue 12 Jan 5pm to 6pm (for teachers in primary schools) Thu 14 Jan 5pm to 6pm (for teachers in secondary schools) Tue 19 Jan 5pm to 6pm (for teachers in secondary schools) Thu 21 Jan 5pm to 6pm (for teachers in primary schools)
