Καλοκαίρι του ’90 και η μετάβαση από το δημοτικό στο γυμνάσιο επέβαλλε και την αλλαγή μουσικών προτιμήσεων. Οι κασέτες των New Kids on the Block ακούγονταν πλέον ενοχικά εν όψει της έλευσης της εφηβείας και τη θέση τους πήραν αυτές των πιο “σκληρών” ακουσμάτων. Η μόδα επέβαλλε Vanilla Ice και Mc Hammer, λευκός ράπερ έναντι έγχρωμου. Στα βραβεία Grammy εκείνης της χρονιάς το βραβείο για την καλύτερη ραπ εμφάνιση κέρδισε το “U can’t touch this”, το αποτέλεσμα όμως και για τους δύο καλλιτέχνες ήταν το ίδιο, τα διαγωνιζόμενα και αντίπαλα τραγούδια έμειναν στην ιστορία της μουσικής βιομηχανίας ως “one hit wonders” μεταξύ πολλών άλλων. Αυτό όμως δεν ήταν το μόνο χτύπημα για τον Vanilla Ice, το “Ice Ice baby” είχε “επηρεαστεί” μουσικά από το “Under Pressure” των Queen και David Bowie, γεγονός που δεν παραδέχτηκε ποτέ αλλά για το οποίο πλήρωσε ένα διόλου ευκαταφρόνητο αντίτιμο. Ο βίος και η πολιτεία του εμπεριείχαν και άλλα αμφισβητούμενα σημεία, όπως το ότι ο ίδιος είχε διαρρεύσει ότι ήταν μέλος μιας συμμορίας ενώ τελικά αποκαλύφθηκε ότι δεν ήταν. Για όλα αυτά και για ακόμη περισσότερα ο Vanilla Ice κατηγόρησε τη μουσική βιομηχανία ότι ήθελε να μετατρέψει ένα ραπ καλλιτέχνη σε ποπ είδωλο. Στην προσωπική του ιστοσελίδα, παρομοιάζει τον εαυτό του με τους Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Elvis και Kurt Cobain, όπως αυτοί έτσι και ο ίδιος δεν μπορούσε να αντιμετωπίσει τη διασημότητά του με αποτέλεσμα να βρει διέξοδο στα ναρκωτικά και σε άλλου είδους καταχρήσεις. Πόσο cool όμως είναι ο Mr. Ice Ice Baby; Μάλλον όχι τόσο cool όσο πριν από 17 χρόνια...
The summer of 1990 saw this writer’s move from primary to secondary school, with
which came a shift in musical taste; harder sounds took over from pop, with New Kids on The Block cassettes becoming a guilty
pleasure while mainstream trends dictated
a liking of Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer. The latter’s “U can’t touch this” won a Grammy
for the best rap performance yet both artists were to remain one hit wonders. Vanilla Ice also had to pay out large amounts in
royalties since “Ice Ice baby” heavily sampled the Queen and David Bowie track “Under
Pressure”. Vanilla Ice’s life and times include other lows, for example when he was found to be lying regarding his involvement with a particular gang; Vanilla Ice would later
point his finger at the music industry for
wanting to transform a rap artist into a pop idol. On his website he compares himself
to Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Elvis and Kurt Cobain, since just like them, he wasn’t able to deal with celebrity and
turned to drugs to find a way out. History
went on to record numerous remixes of “Ice Ice baby”, a film depicting him as another James Dean and numerous TV and reality
show appearances. How cool is Mr. Ice Ice
Baby? Probably not as cool as he was 17 years ago.

FRESHER THAN EVER AND INCLUDING MORE INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS, THE FESTIVAL IS STEADILY BECOMING AN INSTITUTION. Από τις 18 έως τις 27 Ιουλίου το Αμφιθέατρο του Κάστρου, το Πνευματικό Κέντρο, το Δημοτικό Περιφερειακό Θέατρο και άλλοι χώροι της Καλαμάτας θα φιλοξενήσουν ένα πολυποίκιλο πρόγραμμα, έχοντας πάντα ως κεντρικό άξονα την πρωτότυπη διεθνή δημιουργία. Στόχος του φεστιβάλ είναι να μεταφέρει στο ελληνικό κοινό μια όσο το δυνατόν πιο ξεκάθαρη αποτύπωση των τάσεων που συνθέτουν το τοπίο του σύγχρονου χορού. Θα παρουσιαστούν συνολικά δεκαέξι παραστάσεις από γνωστούς χορογράφους και σχήματα παγκοσμίου φήμης, αλλά και από νέους δημιουργούς του πειραματισμού από διαφορετικές χώρες και ηπείρους. Για πρώτη φορά θα εμφανιστεί στην Ελλάδα ο σημαντικός βρετανός χορογράφος Jonathan Burrows, ο οποίος μαζί με τον διακεκριμένο μουσικό Matteo Fargion, θα ερμηνεύσει το Both Sitting Duet, μία ανεπιτήδευτη, σχεδόν σιωπηλή συνομιλία. Ο ισραηλινής καταγωγής Hofesh Shechter θα παρουσιάσει δύο δυναμικά έργα, το Uprising, μία εναλλαγή δύναμης και εσωτερικότητας για άνδρες χορευτές και το In Your Rooms, ένα τελετουργικό ταξίδι στα βάθη του ασυνείδητου. Αναμένεται να ξεχωρίσει η παράσταση μπούτο Utsushi των διάσημων Ιαπώνων Sankai Juku που θα παρουσιάσουν ένα απόσταγμα από τη χορογραφική δουλειά του ιδρυτή τους Ushio Amagatsu. Από την Ελλάδα συμμετέχει η ομάδα Quasi Stellar της Αποστολίας Παπαδαμάκη, η οποία θα παρουσιάσει τη τελευταία της παραγωγή Electric Girl, έναν έντονο διάλογο ανάμεσα σε μία χορεύτρια και έναν διάσημο μουσικό. Όπως κάθε χρόνο, το κυρίως πρόγραμμα του φεστιβάλ συμπληρώνει μία σειρά παράλληλων εκδηλώσεων, στα πλαίσια των οποίων το κοινό θα έχει την ευκαιρία να γνωρίσει τους συμμετέχοντες δημιουργούς και να συζητήσει μαζί τους για τα έργα τους, να παρακολουθήσει μουσικές εκδηλώσεις και παραστάσεις σε διάφορα σημεία της πόλης και να συμμετέχει σε σεμινάρια. Ένας πολύ καλός λόγος για μια εκδρομή στη Μεσσηνιακή πρωτεύουσα!
Focusing on original international works,
the Kalamata dance festival will take place from the 18th until the 27th of July in the
castle’s amphitheatre, the cultural centre
and other spots around the city. The aim of
the festival is to present local audiences with all the latest trends in contemporary dance –
featuring sixteen performances by renowned
choreographers and internationally acclaimed groups, as well as works by up and coming
experimental dance companies from around the globe.
Key choreographer Jonathan Burrows will appear for the first time in Greece, along renowned musician Matteo Fargion,
performing Both Sitting Duet, an unassuming and quiet interaction. Hofesh Shechter
from Israel will be presenting two works,
Uprising and In Your Rooms; the first being
an internal exchange of force between male
dancers and the second a ritual journey into the depths of the subconscious. The buto
performance entitled Utsushi by Japanese
dance company Sankai Juku is expected to be
one of the highlights, giving us a taste of their founder’s Ushio Amagatsu’s work. Greece will
be represented by Apostolia Padamaki’s group, Quasi Stellar, who will be presenting their
latest work entitled Electric Girl, an intensive dialogue between a dancer and a famous musician.
As with every year the programme is topped off by a series of parallel events, giving the
audience the chance to meet the performers, discuss the work, watch different events
in various parts of the city and take part in
workshops. This is an ideal excuse to visit the Messinian capital!

Το οπτικο-ακουστικό φεστιβάλ μουσικής και σύγχρονης τέχνης θα υποδεχτεί το κοινό του στη συμπρωτεύουσα την Παρασκευή 19 και το Σάββατο 20 Σεπτεμβρίου. Αφήνοντας πίσω την περσυνή ατυχή επιλογή του λιμανιού, το Reworks Festival μεταφέρεται στον πολυχώρο της “Βίλκα” για να παρουσιάσει μια εκτενή πλατφόρμα της ηλεκτρονικής μουσικής με μουσικά showcases, live εμφανίσεις, μουσικές performances, προβολές, εγκαταστάσεις, εκθέσεις τέχνης και video art. Περισσότεροι από 120 καλλιτέχνες θα συμμετέχουν συνολικά στις τέσσερις μουσικές σκηνές και τις δύο εκθέσεις. Οι Jazzanova, η κολεκτίβα new jazz καλλιτεχνών, θα κάνουν μία από τις πρώτες στάσεις της παγκόσμιας περιοδείας τους στο φεστιβάλ, για να παρουσιάσουν τις δημοφιλείς διασκευές τους και να δώσουν στο κοινό μία πρώτη γεύση από το νέο τους album που θα κυκλοφορήσει στις αρχές Σεπτεμβρίου. Στις πιο ξεχωριστές εμφανίσεις του φετινού φεστιβάλ συγκαταλέγεται και αυτή του Grant Marshall, δηλαδή του Daddy G των Massive Attack, που θα παρουσιάσει ένα dj set με επιλογές dub και reggae, funk, disco και hip hop. Παράλληλα, οι δύο εκθέσεις στις γκαλερί της Βίλκα θα κινηθούν γύρω από την άρρηκτη σχέση μεταξύ μουσικής και σύγχρονης τέχνης. Η πρώτη θα είναι αφιερωμένη στους νέους καλλιτέχνες, δίνοντας τους την ευκαιρία της γνωριμίας με το κοινό. Η δεύτερη έκθεση με τίτλο "Digital Romance" θα περιλαμβάνει μία σειρά εικαστικών επεμβάσεων σε εσωτερικά αλλά και εξωτερικά σημεία του χώρου, με ογδόντα έργα Ελλήνων και ξένων καλλιτεχνών. The audiovisual festival of music and modern art opens its doors in Thessaloniki on Friday
the 19th and continues on Saturday the 20th of September. Leaving behind last year’s
venue in the harbor, this year it seeks refuge in the “Vilka” space, building a platform for
presenting the best in electronic music both recorded and live as well as performances, projections, installations, art exhibitions
and video art. More than 120 artists will take part in the four music stages and the two art exhibitions.
Jazzanova, the renowned new jazz collective make a stop over here as part of their world tour, showcasing their popular reworkings
and giving us a little taster of their new LP, to be released in early September. Mandy
from Germany will be making an appearance again after two years, while compatriot and old collaborator DJ T will be serving up a
mixture of disco, funk, acid house and electro. Mike Paradinas, one of the most influential
producers in experimental music, will also be showcasing his underground sound for the
first time in Greece. Highlights of the festival include Grant Marshall also known as Daddy
G of Massive Attack who will present a unique mix including elements of dub, reggae, funk, disco and hip hop.
Meanwhile the two exhibitions in the Vilka
gallery will explore the strong links between music and modern art; the first will be the chance for new artists to promote their
works to a wider audience, while the second,
entitled Digital Romance, will include a series of artistic interventions in the space of the
festival promoting works by 80 artists from
Greece and abroad. Ozon will be there in order to get a closer look on the festival!

Do you think that menswear is being
"neglected" from the world of fashion? No, it's been spotlighted for the past years in a lot of publications actually. However, it bugs me
there's no Menswear Fashion Week in London – you have to decide to either show in Paris
or Milan in the long run. There's some great
Menswear journalists in London but they don't have a big playground there during Fashion Week. There's no real buzz and excitement
about the few Menswear Shows and no space for them in the British newspapers. That's a
real shame since London produces quite a few Menswear talents.
What's your source of inspiration? The
past few seasons it started to be the idea of a certain man or group of men that don't but
could exist. Who they are and what they do
varies with each collection but I observed they all tend to be highly self-confident bordering on arrogant with an eye for a kind of luxury

Το σκηνικό αλλάζει, καθώς και τα σπορ ανάλογα με την εποχή, αλλά όλοι έχουν ένα στοιχείο “American psycho” και θα μπορούσαν να είναι αντίγραφα ο ένας του άλλου – ομοιογενείς και εναλλάξιμοι με έναν επιθετικό τρόπο, σέξι και πλούσιοι. Δίνουν την εντύπωση ότι θα μπορούσες να τους αγοράσεις σε συσκευασία των 10. Προσπαθώ να είμαι σοβαρή με ειρωνικό τρόπο. Με ποιο τρόπο σε βοήθησε η συνεργασία με τους Kim Jones και Alexander Mc Queen να εξελιχθείς και να απελευθερωθείς δημιουργώντας τη δική σου εταιρεία; Με φόβισε αρκετά ώστε να πιάσω δουλειά πλήρους απασχόλησης τελειώνοντας το κολέγιο! Δεν μπορούσα να πιστέψω το πόσο σκληρά εργάζονται και δεν ήμουν σίγουρη αν θα μπορούσα να το κάνω κι εγώ. Είχα τη χαρά να κάνω κάποια σχέδια για την Kim σαν ελεύθερη επαγγελματίας αμέσως μετά το μεταπτυχιακό μου και να εργαστώ σαν μοδίστρα σε μία ανάθεση του Alexander Mc Queen ενώ ήμουν ακόμα στο κολέγιο, οπότε δεν ήταν ακριβώς “συνεργασία” αλλά μου έδωσε αρκετή ενημέρωση σχετικά με όσα χρειάζονται για να διευθύνεις τη δική σου εταιρεία, ώστε να αποφασίσω ότι δεν θέλω να το κάνω…μέχρι που δούλεψα για μισό χρόνο σε έναν οίκο μόδας – αυτό

Παρόλα αυτά, με ενοχλεί που δεν υπάρχει Εβδομάδα Ανδρικής Μόδας στο Λονδίνο – για επιδείξεις πρέπει να επιλέξεις είτε το Παρίσι είτε το Μιλάνο μακροπρόθεσμα. Υπάρχουν κάποιοι πολύ καλοί δημοσιογράφοι ανδρικής μόδας στο Λονδίνο αλλά δεν έχουν μεγάλο πεδίο δράσης κατά τη διάρκεια της Εβδομάδας Μόδας εκεί. Δεν υπάρχει ιδιαίτερος ενθουσιασμός για τις λίγες επιδείξεις ανδρικής μόδας ούτε χώρος για αυτές στις αγγλικές εφημερίδες. Είναι κρίμα γιατί το Λονδίνο παράγει πολλά ταλέντα στον τομέα του ανδρικού ρούχου. Η ομορφιά, η ευκολία και η πολυτέλεια που απεικονίζει και το αίμα, ο ιδρώτας και τα δάκρυα, η φτώχεια και η ασχήμια που μπορεί να βρίσκονται από πίσω. Από την άλλη, αγαπώ αυτές τις αντιφάσεις ή μάλλον την αντίθεση. Μου αρέσει η πρόκληση του να φτιάχνω κάτι όμορφο από το τίποτα και μόνο από την τρέλα μου να το δοκιμάσω. Because so many others wanted to do women
swear and I tend not to respond too well to peer pressure. I don't know. This way I didn't need
after my MA and to work as a dressmaker on a commissioned project for McQueen
while still at college, so that wasn't exactly a
'collaboration' but it gave me enough insight into what it takes to run your own label to decide that I didn’t want to do it... until I
spent half a year working for a fashion house
- that propelled me right back into wanting to be my own boss, do my own designs, follow my own vision. This had less to do with all
the people and designers I have been working
with and for until then but with the extremely
intense do-everything- yourself education I got on the Central Saint Martin's MA. I got bored with dealing only with aspects of the whole
process and was craving and mad enough to dive right back into all the drama of what is running your own label.
What's the biggest contradiction in
fashion? The Outside and the Inside. The
people who are in it for all the wrong reasons.
The beauty, easiness and luxury it portrays and the blood, sweat and tears, the poverty and
the ugliness that can be behind it. But then again I love these contradictions, or rather the contrast. I like the challenge to make
something beautiful out of not much more
than thin air and your own madness to just have a go at it.
How is fashion related to money? Oh dear, how much time have you got??!

H Kiks Tyo ιδρύθηκε πριν μόλις δύο χρόνια αλλά αμέσως έτυχε προσοχής σε όλο τον κόσμο. Ιθύνων νους ο σχεδιαστής Shinichi Izaki ή αλλιώς Hobby:tech, ένας άνθρωπος με πολλά ταλέντα (DJ, TV host). Πάνω από όλα όμως είναι μεγάλος sneaker collector, γεγονός που φαίνεται και μέσα από το brand του, καθώς όλα τα σχέδια με τον ένα ή άλλο τρόπο έχουν να κάνουν με sneakers και μια 80’s/90’s αισθητική. Σε πολλά από τα σχέδια θα βρείτε και το γνωστό μοντέλο και μούσα του Izaki, Aki Hoshino, που δίνει έναν άλλο αέρα στην Kiks Tyo.
Εδώ έχουμε να κάνουμε με μία ιδιαίτερη περίπτωση. Το brand πήρε σάρκα και οστά το 2002 μέσα από τα clubs και τη μουσική σκηνή του Τόκυο αλλά εδώ και αρκετό καιρό μπορούμε να το βρούμε πιο εύκολα σε όλο τον κόσμο μετά από την συμφωνία τους με την Kilo International (βλέπε Kilo Goods, Fosho Fosho tradeshow κ.α.) της Νέας Υόρκης. Πρόκειται για έναν ιδανικό συνδυασμό παρελθόντος και μέλλοντος, με ευφάνταστες χρωματικές επιλογές και πρωτότυπα υλικά, ενώ η urban μουσική είναι μονίμως παρούσα προσφέροντας έμπνευση. Πώς ξεκίνησες να κάνεις θαλάσσιο σκι; Ξεκίνησα να κάνω θαλάσσιο σκι μαζί με τον αδερφό μου Τάσο στα Ιωάννινα, σε ηλικία έξι ετών. Τι σε ώθησε να ασχοληθείς με τον πρωταθλητισμό; Στην αρχή έκανα σκι απλά γιατί μου άρεσε πολύ, το έβλεπα σαν παιχνίδι. Αυτό το παιχνίδι γρήγορα με κατέκτησε και σε ηλικία δέκα ετών μπήκα στην εθνική ομάδα, στην οποία είμαι ακόμα μέλος. Ποιες είναι οι εμπειρίες σου από τις συμμετοχές σου σε αγώνες στην Ελλάδα και το εξωτερικό; Οι συμμετοχές αυτές με γέμισαν εμπειρίες που δύσκολα μπορεί να ζήσει κανείς σε τόσο μικρή ηλικία. Ταξίδεψα σχεδόν σε όλο τον κόσμο, γνώρισα πολλούς ανθρώπους, είδα πράγματα που θα έβλεπα μόνο στη τηλεόραση αλλά το κυριότερο είναι ότι έμαθα να ζω και να αντιμετωπίζω τα προβλήματα μου μόνος μου. Έμαθα να επιβιώνω, γιατί αυτό είναι ο πρωταθλητισμός, πάντα να προσπαθείς να κερδίζεις. Ποιες είναι οι μεγαλύτερες συγκινήσεις που σου έχει χαρίσει το άθλημα; Με το θαλάσσιο σκι έχω ζήσει έντονες καταστάσεις και μεγάλες συγκινήσεις. Κάθε μία από αυτές τις στιγμές ήταν ξεχωριστή και δεν θα την ξεχάσω ποτέ. Δεν θα αναφερθώ σε κάποια συγκεκριμένη περίπτωση όμως, γιατί μου αρέσει να τις κρατάω για εμένα, απλά αναφέρω ως θετικό το ότι γνώρισα ανθρώπους και έζησα γεγονότα που με άλ26 ozonwho

Γενικά στον πρωταθλητισμό το ξέρεις ότι οι τραυματισμοί είναι μέσα στο πρόγραμμα, απλά πάντα προσπαθείς να τους αποφύγεις. Το 1997 στους πανευρωπαϊκούς αγώνες που έγιναν στη Λίμνη του Καϊάφα στην Πελοπόννησο έφυγα εκτός πορείας στο άλμα και βγήκα έξω στη στεριά, αλλά σώθηκα δίχως να τραυματιστώ σοβαρά. Έχεις κάποιο αγαπημένο μέρος για σκι; Το αγαπημένο μου μέρος για σκι είναι στη σχολή μου στην Αλίαρτο, όπου έχει πάντα τέλειες συνθήκες για προπόνηση, καθώς και στον Καϊάφα. Ποια είναι τα μελλοντικά σου σχέδια; Στόχος μου είναι να συνεχίσω να κάνω πρωταθλητισμό για όσο καιρό μπορώ, ευτυχώς έχω ακόμα πολλά χρόνια μπροστά μου. Επίσης θέλω να διδάξω και να μεταδώσω όλες αυτές τις εμπειρίες και τις τεχνικές μου στα νέα παιδιά, έτσι ώστε και αυτοί με τη σειρά τους να διεκδικήσουν μετάλλια και επιδόσεις. Αν μπορούσες να ακούς ένα τραγούδι την ώρα που κάνεις σκι, ποιο θα ήταν; Το αγαπημένο μου τραγούδι είναι των U2 το “Still haven’t found what I am looking for” αλλά τον τελευταίο καιρό με χαλαρώνει πολύ και το “The end of the Road”.

What experiences have you gained from
taking part in competitions in Greece and abroad? I’ve had experiences that one normally wouldn’t have at such a young age.
I’ve travelled around the world, met many people and seen things I’d only get to see on TV otherwise, but most importantly I
learned how to live and deal with problems on my own. I learned how to survive; this
is what competition at the top level teaches you: that you always have to win.
What are the most sentimental moments
you’ve experienced that were down to your sport? Through my involvement in skiing
I’ve lived through many highly emotional
situations. Each moment has been special
and I will never forget it. I won’t speak about a particular one because I like to keep them
for myself; I just want to say that I met people and lived through situations that have made me who I am.
Yes there have been; generally speaking
juries are part of the package, all you can
do is try to avoid them. In the 1997 Europeans that took place in Lake Kaiafas in the
Peloponnese, I deviated from my course and landed on land, thankfully I wasn’t seriously injured.
What’s your favourite Skiing spot? My favourite spot is where my school is, in Alartos, where you always get the perfect conditions, as well as Lake Kaifas
What are your future plans? I want to keep on competing for as long as possible and
thankfully I still have many years to go. I
would also like to teach in order to commu-
nicate all my experiences and techniques to kids, so they can go on and win things.
If you could listen to one song while ski-
ing, which would it be? My favourite song is U2’s “Still haven’t found what I am looking
for” but lately there is also another one that relaxes me a lot, “The end of the Road”.

Ποια ερεθίσματα και επιρροές σε οδήγησαν στην δημιουργία του δίσκου “Kind of Human”; Τίποτα συγκεκριμένο. Απλά ήθελα να κάνω κάτι λίγο διαφορετικό από αυτά με τα οποία έχει συσχετιστεί το όνομα μου. Άλλωστε θα βαριόμουν πολύ να κάνω ένα “DIY II”. Αντίστοιχα ελπίζω οτι και το 3ο album θα είναι κάτι εξίσου διαφορετικό. Πώς θα περιέγραφες τη μουσική σου εξέλιξη σε σύγκριση με τον προηγούμενο δίσκο σου; Τα τελευταία 2 χρόνια είχα κάνει ένα ιδιαίτερο focus σε πιο club παραγωγές το οποίο, παρότι μου βγήκε σε καλό, ταυτόχρονα με έκανε να θέλω να αποφύγω ένα “βαρύ” club ύφος για το album. Αντίθετα προτίμησα να κάνω κάτι πιο ανάλαφρο, λιγότερο σοβαρό και πιθανώς κάτι που να μην χρειάζεται να είσαι hardcore electronica fan για να σου αρέσει. Μετά από μερικά χρόνια και την παραγωγή δύο δίσκων, ποια είναι η σχέση σου με την Klik Records; Καλύτερη από ποτέ. Με τα παιδιά εκτός από επαγγελματική, έχουμε και φιλική σχέση. Αποφεύγω να συνεργάζομαι με άτομα που δεν έχουν να προσφέρουν κάτι και ως άνθρωποι. Πάντα προτιμώ business & pleasure όταν έχω την επιλογή. Υπάρχει κάποιο σημείο στο οποίο θα μπορούσες να έχεις βοηθηθεί περισσότερο στην παραγωγή του δίσκου; Γενικά υπήρξαν πολλά που είχα φανταστεί και το αποτέλεσμα διαφέρει αρκετά από αυτό που είχα αρχικά στο μυαλό μου. Τελικά όμως αυτή η διαδικασία γίνεται για κάθε album και για κάθε καλλιτέχνη. Ξεκινάς κάπως και φτάνεις κάπου αλλού. Για τον κόσμο σημασία έχει το αποτέλεσμα, για εμάς το ταξίδι! Έχεις κάνει πολλές εμφανίσεις στο εξωτερικό, μάλιστα πριν από λίγο καιρό γύρισες από μία περιοδεία στην Ασία. Ποια ήταν η πιο ενδιαφέρουσα εμπειρία σου; Το culture shock ήταν ιδιαίτερα μεγάλο στην Ινδία. Υπάρχει τεράστιο χάσμα μεταξύ φτωχών και πλουσίων. Άνθρωποι κοιμούνται με κουβέρτες στην άσφαλτο και ζεσταίνονται τις κρύες νύχτες του χειμώνα καίγοντας σκουπίδια σε μεταλλικούς κάδους. Και φυσικά από δίπλα να περνάει η "tricked out Bentley". Στην Αυστραλία είχα την τύχη να παίξω στο Rainbow Serpent festival, το οποίο είναι ότι ήταν το Woodstock, αλλά με ηλεκτρονική μουσική. Ηippies+feelgood+stompin music= win ! Εξακολουθείς να ζεις μόνιμα στην Πάτρα. Δεν είναι αντιφατική επιλογή σε σχέση με τις επαγγελματικές σου υποχρεώσεις; Όταν ταξιδεύεις συνέχεια και συχνά καταλήγεις στην άλλη μεριά του πλανήτη, το πού μένεις σταματάει να έχει και τόση σημασία. Το μόνο που μετράει είναι να έχεις κάπου ένα ωραίο χώρο, μια βάση, για να ξεκουράζεσαι και να δημιουργείς. Θα κάνεις κάποιες ζωντανές εμφανίσεις στην Ελλάδα στα πλαίσια προώθησης της νέας σου δουλειάς; Σίγουρα αναμένονται κάποια dj sets και κάποια semi-live με mixed μούσική + live stuff από πάνω. Για full live, οι ετοιμασίες ξεκινούν τέλος Αυγούστου και θα διαρκέσουν σχεδόν 6 μήνες. Το τραγούδι αυτού του τεύχους είναι το Ice Ice Baby. Πρόσφατα μετακόμισες στο LA. Αυτό έγινε λόγω της συνεργασίας σου με τον Flying Lotus ως FlyAmSam ή αυτή προέκυψε μετέπειτα; Η συνεργασία αυτή υπήρχε από πριν, είχαμε ακούσει ο ένας τη μουσική του άλλου, όταν αποφασίσαμε να συνεργαστούμε. Φτιάχναμε ήχους στο synthesizer, τους στέλναμε ο ένας στον άλλον και ο τελευταίος δημιουργούσε κάτι διαφορετικό. Έτσι, πριν καν γνωριστούμε, είχαμε σχεδόν φτιάξει ένα άλμπουμ! Πρόσφατα κυκλοφόρησες το Rap Beats Vol.1. Πώς προέκυψε αυτό; Ήθελα να κάνω κάτι τέτοιο εδώ και αρκετό καιρό. Ξεκίνησα να το πουλάω χέρι με χέρι μέσω PayPal. Πρόκειται για μια ανθολογία με beat – τα περισσότερα εκ των οποίων περιλαμβάνουν 16 μέτρα, μια γέφυρα και πάλι το αρχικό θέμα, οπότε είναι στην ουσία μια συλλογή από 24 διαφορετικά θέματα! Είναι στα πλάνα σου να δουλέψεις με κάποιον MC; Υπάρχουν σίγουρα άνθρωποι με τους οποίους θα ήθελα να συνεργαστώ, ένα ωραίο φωνητικό θα προσέδιδε κάτι παραπάνω στα beats μου και μπορώ να σκεφτώ αρκετούς rappers που θα ταίριαζαν. Μου αρέσει ο Doom, γιατί είναι πολύ έξυπνος και έχει πλάκα, ενώ ο Blu είναι εξίσου καλός. Πρόσφατα υπέγραψες στη Hyperdub. Πώς προέκυψε αυτή η συνεργασία; Ο Lotus ξέρει τον Kode 9, ήταν μαζί στην Red Bull Music Academy και από τότε είναι φίλοι. Πριν λίγο καιρό βρέθηκαν στο Λονδίνο και ο Lotus του έπαιξε μερικά από τα κομμάτια μου, τα οποία του άρεσαν και έτσι ξεκινήσαμε να μιλάμε. Όλα έγιναν πολύ γρήγορα.
Πιστεύεις ότι όταν ένας beat maker υπογράφει για μια dub step εταιρεία, αποτελεί ένα σημάδι για την κατεύθυνση που παίρνει η μουσική; Ο Flying Lotus πρόσφατα ανέφερε τον Mala από τη DMZ ως έναν από τους πιο ανερχόμενους παραγωγούς. Είναι μια τάση που θα δούμε περισσότερο στο μέλλον; Το Dub step με το hip-hop έχουν πολλά κοινά σημεία όσον αφορά τον ήχο. Οπότε είναι λογικό να υπάρχουν fans και των δυο. Είναι πολύ σημαντικό το γεγονός ότι ο Kode 9 κυκλοφόρησε το 12” μέσω της εταιρείας του, γιατί είναι κάτι διαφορετικό από αυτό που θα περίμενε κανείς από την Hyperdub. Πρόσφατα εμφανίστηκες στο Brainfeeder festival δίπλα σε ονόματα όπως οι Flylo και Kode 9. Πώς ήταν σαν εμπειρία; Ήταν εκπληκτικό! Ένα από τα καλύτερα show στο οποίο έχω πάρει μέρος. Ο ήχος σου, εκείνος του Rustie που ανέφερες προηγουμένως, καθώς και του Dorian Concept, μοιάζουν λίγο με samples από Nintendo. Σε επηρέασαν αυτά τα παιχνίδια στον ίδιο βαθμό με κάποιους δίσκους όταν ήσουν μικρός; Σίγουρα! Κάποια από εκείνα τα Nintendo beats με επηρέασαν αρκετά, πολλά από αυτά είναι τελείως hip-hop. Ποιο είναι το αγαπημένο σου; Υπάρχει ένα κομμάτι του Madlib που σαμπλάρει ένα παιχνίδι Pro Wrestling το οποίο είναι απίστευτο! Όσον αφορά καθαρά μουσική από παιχνίδια, μου αρέσει πολύ η μουσική από το Megaman, υπάρχει συγκριμένα ένα τρομερό κομμάτι με το που ξεκινάει το παιχνίδι.
You’ve recently relocated to LA; was that
inspired by your hook up with Flying Lotus (the FlyAmSam collaboration) or did that happen once you got there? That’s some-
thing we were doing beforehand actually;
we’d heard each others’ music so decided to start working together. Most of what we’ve made has just been where we have made
sounds on a synthesizer, emailed them to each other and just rearranged them into
something else, so before we met in person we had an album!
You recently released Rap Beats Vol. 1,
how did that come about? I was thinking
about doing something for a while; I started off selling it hand-to-hand and over PayPal, it’s just a collection of beats –most of them
are like 16 bars, a little hook then back to the original part, so it really is just a collection

my together and they’ve been friends since; not long ago they were chilling in London
and Lotus played him a bunch of my stuff, which he liked so we started talking from there. It all happened pretty quickly.

You recently appeared at the Brainfeed-
er festival alongside Flylo and Kode 9; how was that? Amazing! One of the best shows I’ve had the pleasure of being part of. The venue was really dope and the sound was huge! It was also great watching friends
Kode 9 in person until then so that was cool or Danny Breaks, who was dope; it turned into a mini rave when he was on!
Mentioning Rustie, his sound, yours and the sound that people like Dorian Con-
cept make, all sound in places like samples from Nintendo – did those games
influence you as much as some records
did when you were growing up? Definitely! Some of those Nintendo beats had a lot
of influence on me; a lot of it is pretty much hip-hop.
Any favourites? There is this Madlib beat
that samples a Pro Wrestling game and is
really dope! As far as music from a game, I really like all the Megaman music, one of
them has a really dope beat during the intro-
duction right when you turn the game on.

Στον εξωτερικό τοίχο της Tate Modern δίπλα στον Τάμεση φιγούρες με μεγάλα μάτια γεμάτα αθωότητα κοιτάζουν τους περαστικούς. Είναι oι καρτουνίστικες μορφές του Sixeart και το πολύχρωμο σύμπαν του από πλάσματα που φέρνουν στο νου παιδικές ζωγραφιές. Στον αντίποδα, ο Γάλλος JR μπορεί να μην “χτυπάει” πολύχρωμα graffiti, όμως επεμβαίνει στο δημόσιο χώρο αναρτώντας υπερμεγέθεις ασπρόμαυρες φωτογραφίες που βγάζουν τη γλώσσα στα στερεότυπα των media – και όχι μόνο. Στο κέντρο του Παρισιού έντυσε όψεις κτιρίων με φωτογραφίες μεταναστών που ζουν στα προάστια. Για την έκθεση της Tate διάλεξε την φωτογραφία ενός μαύρου άντρα
που κρατά απειλητικά – όπως φαίνεται με μια γρήγορη ματιά – ένα όπλο. Όμως γρήγορα αντιλαμβανόμαστε πως το “όπλο” που μας σημαδεύει δεν είναι παρά μία video camera. Το έργο των Faile αποτελεί ένα μεγάλων διαστάσεων κολλάζ από logo, διαφημιστικές αφίσες και flyers. Ολοκληρώθηκε στο studio τους στη Νέα Υόρκη και ταξίδεψε για το Λονδίνο αποσυντεθημένο υπό μορφή κομματιών παζλ. Η σύνθεση απεικονίζει έναν Ιθαγενή της Βόρειας Αμερικής, που θυμίζει ήρωα comic, περιτριγυρισμένο από θραύσματα γραμμάτων logo και διαφημίσεων. Ο Nunca, που το όνομα του σημαίνει στα πορτογαλικά “ποτέ”, σχολιάζει με βρετανικό
χιούμορ την απόφαση των υπευθύνων της Tate Modern να διαθέσουν την όψη του κτιρίου σε street artists “προς βανδαλισμόν”. Ο ερυθρόδερμος Βραζιλιάνος, η φιγούρα που εμπνεύστηκε από τους ιθαγενείς της πατρίδας του και πρωτοσχεδίασε στις υπόγειες διαβάσεις πεζών του Σάο Πάολο, εμφανίζεται να πίνει με χάρη ένα φλιτζάνι τσάι. Οι δίδυμοι Os Gemeos δίνουν το δικό τους στίγμα στην σύγχρονη πραγματικότητα, ζωγραφίζοντας έναν άντρα με καλυμμένο πρόσωπο να κρατά στο χέρι αποσυνδεδεμένα καλώδια και κάμερες παρακολούθησης. Όμως γιατί το έντονο κίτρινο στην γυμνή επιδερμίδα του; “Όταν ονειρευόμαστε όλα έχουν αποχρώσεις του κίτρινου”, δηλώνουν οι δύο Βραζιλιάνοι αδερφοί. Αντίθετα, ο Blu αποφεύγει τα έντονα χρώματα και με απλές γραμμές σχεδίασε ένα πρόσωπο που χαμογελά βεβιασμένα καθώς το σκαλπ του χάσκει ανοιχτό. Με μια πιο προσεκτική ματιά διαπιστώνουμε πως το μυαλό του αποτελείται από πολλούς ορόφους, στους χώρους τον οποίων εκτυλίσσονται σκηνές που προκαλούν: ένα δωμάτιο-κελί βασανιστηρίων, ο Laden μπροστά σε τηλεοπτικό συνεργείο, αίθουσα συσκέψεων όπου κύριοι με κουστούμι πετάνε σαΐτες στους Δίδυμους Πύργους, μία τράπεζα και ένα εργοστάσιο παραγωγής όπλων. Και όλα τα παραπάνω εκτίθενται στην όψη της Tate Modern στην καρδιά του Λονδίνου. God save the Queen!

underpasses, is depicted gracefully sipping their own interpretation of contemporary reality, by depicting a man with his face covered, holding ripped off surveillance
cameras. Why is his skin so exceptionally yellow one would ask? “When we dream
everything comes in shades of yellow”, state the two Brazilians. On the contrary Blu tries to avoid intense colours, using simple lines
to sketch a smiling face with its scalp open. A careful look reveals that the person’s
head is made up of many floors, each one
featuring shocking scenes: A torture room; Laden in front of a TV crew; a conference
room with men in suites launching paper
planes at the twin towers; a bank; an arms
