Ο χρόνος έχει τα δικά του μάτια, ο ήχος τις δικές του εικόνες. Κάτω από τα παράθυρα του σπιτιού που με φιλοξενεί, περνούν ήχοι και εικόνες μαζί. Τα ροδάκια από τη βαλίτσα ενός τουρίστα, ο σαρωτικός θόρυβος του skater που περνάει με φόρα, ο μεταλλικός κρότος της φιάλης αερίου του πλανόδιου πωλητή. Κάθε ήχος και μια εικόνα, μια εικόνα χίλιες λέξεις, όπως μαθαίναμε στο σχολείο. Οι λέξεις γίνονται σκέψεις φευγαλέες και το μόνο που μένει είναι και πάλι μια εικόνα, ένα συναίσθημα. Είναι γλυκιές οι μέρες του χειμώνα και ακόμα πιο γλυκιές οι νύχτες που περιμένουν έξω από το παράθυρο. Μέσα από αυτό αναζητώ ό,τι όλοι μας: την εικόνα της αγάπης. #Τέλος του 2013 και αρχή των πάντων.

υτή είναι η ιστορία ενός κοριτσιού που το έλεγαν Mary Isabel Catherine O’Brien και ενός τραγουδιού που έμελλε να γίνει σημείο αναφοράς στη μουσική της σταδιοδρομία. Το κορίτσι δεν είναι άλλο από την Dusty Springfield και το τραγούδι το “The Look of Love”. Αυτή έμεινε στην ιστορία ως μία από τις μεγαλύτερες Βρετανές τραγουδίστριες, ως η Βασίλισσα της ποπ και αυτό στοίχειωσε μία γενιά, αλλά και πολλές ακόμη μετά από αυτήν. Αν κι έγινε γνωστή από τη σόλο καριέρα της, το όνομά της το οφείλει στο πρώτο συγκρότημα στο οποίο συμμετείχε, τους Springfields.Το “The Look of Love” είναι το πρώτο τραγούδι από το ομώνυμο πέμπτο άλμπουμ της ξανθιάς Dusty το οποίο κυκλοφόρησε το 1967 κι έχει την υπογραφή του Burt Bacharach. Ξεκίνησε ως soundtrack για το τότε Casino Royale και πήρε την έμπνευσή του από ένα πλάνο της Ursula Andress με μαγιό που υπήρχε σε μια αρχική κόπια της ταινίας, ενώ πλέον είναι άρρηκτα συνδεδεμένο με το όνομα της αρχικής του ερμηνεύτριας, καθώς δεν είναι και λίγες οι διασκευές που έχει υποστεί. Το 1968 προτάθηκε για Oscar, μπορεί να μην το κέρδισε, αλλά τα ρίγη συγκίνησης παραμένουν μεγάλα κάθε φορά που το ακούς. Ρίγη προκαλεί και η ζωή της Springfield που δεν παρέκλινε από τις πολυτάραχες ζωές άλλων γνωστών σταρ. Η μετάβασή της από την Ευρώπη στην Αμερική και δη στο Hollywood είναι γεμάτη από ποτό και ναρκωτικά όμως τελικά αυτή η φωνή – η μία από τις εκατό σημαντικότερες φωνές όλων των εποχών, όπως έχει χαρακτηριστεί- σιώπησε το 1999 από καρκίνο στο στήθος. Αισθησιακή και soul, ποπ αλλά και cult, οι αποχρώσεις της Dusty συνθέτουν μία λυρικότητα η οποία δεν θα μπορούσε να εκφράσει καλύτερα αυτήν την όψη της αγάπης. Ναι, ήταν άλλες εποχές τότε, άλλοι στίχοι, άλλη ατμόσφαιρα εν τέλει όσα χρόνια κι αν περάσουν η αγάπη περιγράφεται και απεικονίζεται διαφορετικά για τον καθένα, αλλά όλοι την αποζητούν και από αυτήν δεν γλιτώνει κανείς. Άλλοι την διεκδικούν τολμηρά, άλλοι την περιμένουν στωικά, άλλοι τη δίνουν με γενναιοδωρία, άλλοι την υποδέχονται σύγκορμοι. Στην αγάπη δεν χρειάζεται να υπάρχει δεύτερο νόημα, απλά δώσε και πάρε.

respected artistic signature of Burt Bacharach. It started out as a soundtrack for Casino Royal, inspired by a scene in an early cut of the film featuring Ursula Andress and is now forever connected to Springfield, even though countless covers of the song have been floated on the airwaves.

It was nominated for an Oscar in 1968 and though it didn’t manage to win the prize, still manages to give you goose bumps every time you hear it. Springfield’s life was a tempestuous one, much like other stars of her era. Her road from Europe to the U.S. and Hollywood in particular is one littered with tales of drugs and booze, a road which ended in 1999, when she died of cancer, silencing a voice that has been classed as one of the most important voice of all time. Sensuous and dripping with soul and pop charisma, Dusty’s vocal elements make up an ideal lyrical profile through which to express love itself.

True, we are talking about a completely different time, but at the end of the day, however one portrays and describes love, everyone searches for it and is ultimately inescapable. Some go for it boldly, others stoically sit in wait of it, some share it willingly and generously, some accept it with their entire being. Ultimately, in matters of love there is no need for second meanings, it’s all about give and take.

his is the story of a girl called Mary Isabel Catherine O’Brien and of a song that was destined to be the standout track in her music career. The girl is none other than Dusty Springfield and the song is “The Look of Love”. She has left her mark in history as one of the greatest British singers of all time, as the queen of pop, haunting a generation with her presence and many others beyond that. Though she became famous as a solo artist, she owes her name to her first band, the Springfields.

“The Look of Love” was the opening track from her fifth album which carried the same title, coming out in 1967 and carrying the much

ετά το ξέσπασμα της EDM τρέλας που έφερε την πολυπόθητη κατάκτηση της Αμερικής είναι καιρός να συνηθίσουμε ότι αυτά που συμβαίνουν στην ευρύτερη dance-ηλεκτρονική σκηνή είναι πιθανόν να αφορούν τη σύγχρονη pop μουσική. Ένα εξαιρετικό παράδειγμα είναι οι Disclosure : μπορεί να ακούγονται ως ένα re-branding 90s house & UKG αναφορών αλλά εν έτει 2013 παράγουν pop μουσική που γεμίζει στάδια. Από πίσω φυσικά ακολουθούν πολλοί άλλοι παραγωγοί με σημαντικές πιθανότητες εντός του 2014 να αποτελέσουν τη νέα crossover επιτυχία. Ένας από αυτούς είναι ο TCTS, κατά κόσμον Sam O Neill, από το Manchester. Με τη βοήθεια της Grecoroman records που ξέρει όσο λίγες εταιρίες να «υπογράφει» underground hits που δεν είναι δυσπρόσιτα σε ακροατήρια που ξεπερνούν τις τάξεις των τακτικών clubbers, o TCTS που εδώ και καιρό βρισκόταν στις παρυφές της ευρύτερης Bass σκηνής κυκλοφορεί το These Heights . Αυτόματα σχεδόν, γίνεται από τις μεγάλες χορευτικές επιτυχίες του δεύτερου μισού του 2013 και το γεγονός αυτό τον βάζει σε όλα τα καλά dj line ups του house/uk bass μουσικού υβριδίου. Οι ειδικοί θεωρούν ότι υπό την παρούσα συγκυρία, ο ήχος του συγκεντρώνει αρκετές πιθανότητες να κατακτήσει αρχικά τη Βρετανική αγορά και στη συνέχεια , γιατί όχι, να κάνει και το μεγάλο βήμα στην άλλη πλευρά του Ατλαντικού. Εμείς σίγουρα μπορούμε να παρακολουθήσουμε με ενδιαφέρον την πορεία του, τους επόμενους μήνες.

fter the EDM outbreak that brought about the much dreamed about conquest of the United States, it is high time we got used to the fact that what happens in the larger electronic dance scene, is very much a pop music/culture event. Disclosure are a fine example of this. They might sound like 90's house and UKG re-branded for the new age, but right now, as 2013 heads for the door, they're making stadium packing pop music. Hot on their heels are many producers who could well do the same crossover trick in 2014. One of these is TCTS, known to his friends and foes as Sam O' Neill. The Mancunian has been given valuable help by Grecoroman records, a label with a knack for signing underground hits whose appeal goes beyond the regular clubber herd. Through Grecoroman, TCTS, who had for a while now been a regular fixture of the Bass scene, serves up These Heights, a massive dance hit in this final part of 2013 and a regular feature in every top shelf dj line up of the house/uk bass persuasion. Those with their ear to the ground, strongly believe that he could now go on to take the British market by storm and sooner rather than later, have a pop at the other side of the Atlantic. We will surely be keeping a close eye on him in the coming months.

ι SmackingLips φημολογείται πως σχηματίστηκαν αύριο και τελείωσαν χθες. Έχουν μπάσο, έχουν ντραμς, έχουν κιθάρα και μια γάτα που βρυχάται ονόματι Στέλλα. Κάνουν Art Post-Punk ή απλά Pure Primitive Rock n’ Roll. Τα μέλη της μπάντας είναι γνωστά πρόσωπα των μουσικών δρώμενων της πόλης, σε αυτό το project όμως επιλέγουν να είναι underground. Όσοι είχαν την τύχη να δουν live τους μέσα στο 2013, γνωρίζουν πως πρόκειται για μία διαφορετική εμπειρία και σίγουρα δεν μπόρεσαν να μείνουν ακίνητοι. Πότε δημιουργήθηκαν οι Smacking Lips και γιατί επιλέξατε αυτό το όνομα; Υπήρχαν πάντα, στo υποσυνείδητο και τους μύθους του κόσμου και πήραν την παρούσα ανθρώπινη μορφή τους τον Μάιο του 2012 για να σας θυμίσουν αυτά που νομίζατε ότι είχατε ξεχάσει. Είναι στίχος από το Monkey tree αλλά και η πρωτόγονη αίσθηση για να εκφράσεις κάτι που θέλεις πολύ, πρωτόγονα πολύ. Τι είναι σημαντικότερο για μια μπάντα; Nα είναι όσοι την απαρτίζουν πρώτα απ' όλα φίλοι ή απλώς να υπάρχει μια προσήλωση σε αυτό που κάνουν, ασχέτως αν γνωρίζονται όλοι πολύ καλά μεταξύ τους; Να είναι εμείς. Πείτε μας μερικές ελληνικές μπάντες που ξεχωρίζετε και το γιατί. Last Drive, οι προπάτορες. Gravitysais_i, γιατί δεν σκέφτονται/γράφουν/παίζουν με τη λογική του εμπορικού. Οι Barb Wire Dolls γιατί τα παρατήσανε όλα και πήγαν στην Αμερική. Οι Noise Figures γιατί μας κά-

νουν να κουνάμε γοφούς και μυαλά. Ποιο ήταν το πιο αστείο περιστατικό που σας συνέβη εν ώρα πρόβας ή on stage; Ο δαιμονισμός της Στέλλας όταν παίζαμε το Richard the third σε μια πρόβα. Τα τσίπουρα που καταναλώνονται στο υπόγειο. Το φάντασμα του Shakespeare που είναι σχεδόν μέλος της μπάντας. Ο καθένας σας έχει διαφορετικά ακούσματα. Πού συναντιούνται όμως αυτά; Πού "τα βρίσκετε"; Στον πρωτόγονο παλμό του πρώτου ανθρώπου που χτύπησε παλαμάκια κ είδε τους διπλανούς του να χορεύουν κ σκέφτηκε “καλοοοοοό!” Τι θα φώναζαν οι Smacking Lips στο 2014; Θα του πούμε όλα όσα μαζέψαμε το 2013 σε live εμφανίσεις που ξεκινουν το Φεβρουάριο στο SIX D.O.G.S.

macking Lips were formed tomorrow and broke up yesterday. Go figure. They have a bass, a drum kit, a guitar and a roaring cat named Stella. They play arty post-punk or to put in simpler terms, pure primitive rock n roll. They’re made up of well-known faces in the downtown music scene, but prefer to remain relatively hidden away for this project. Those who have had the good fortune to see them play live, we’re in for a treat and certainly couldn’t stop their bodies from shaking and moving.

When where the Smacking Lips formed and what’s with the name? They have always been there, in the subconscious and the mythology of the world at large and

took on their current human guise in May of 2012, to remind everyone of all those things that we have forgotten. It’s a lyric from the Monkey Tree, but also that primal sense of expressing something you want a hell of a lot, primitively so.

Is it more important for everyone to be friends, or is staying focused on what you’re doing the essence of it all? What’s important for a band is us.

Being us.

Tell us a few Greek bands that stand out for you. The Last Drive, as the grand daddies of it all, Gravitysays_i, because they don’t think, write or play with what’s commercial in mind, the Barb Wire Dolls for giving it all up and going to the U.S. and the Noise Figures, because they make our booties and heads shake.

Tell us a funny on-stage story or a funny story from a rehearsal. The demons that entered Stella when we were rehearsing Richard the third one time. The tsipouro we consume in the basement where we rehearse. Shakespeare’s ghost that is almost a member of the band.

Each of you has a very different musical background. Where do you meet?

In the primal beat that the early man made when he first clapped his hands and thought “this is goooood”.

What would the Smacking Lips yell to 2014? We will tell 2014 what we must in February, during our gig at Six D.O.G.S.

Only Lovers Left AlivE

Τζιμ Τζάρμους είναι ο πιο αγαπημένος παλιομοδίτης του κόσμου. Ξαναγράφοντας το μύθο των βαμπίρ, ο Τζιμ Τζάρμους σκηνοθετεί με το «Only Lovers Left Alive» ένα ερωτικό γράμμα στα αντικείμενα και τα συναισθήματα που για πολλούς μοιάζουν πλέον... vintage. Ο Αδάμ και η Εύα είναι δύο ακόμα ερωτευμένα μεταξύ τους βαμπίρ. Συμπορεύονται εδώ και αιώνες, αλλά μπορούν να ζουν και χωριστά – εκείνος έχει καταφύγει στο μισοπεθαμένο βιομηχανικό Ντιτρόιτ όπου συνθέτει την μουσική του εμπνευσμένος από το vibe της τοπικής σκηνής, εκείνη στην μυστικιστική Ταγγέρη όπου συζητά για τέχνη με τον γέροντα βρικόλακα Κρίστοφερ Μάρλοου, τον ανώνυμο που έγραψε στην πραγματικότητα τα έργα του Σαίξπηρ. Η Εύα καταφέρνει να εκσυγχρονίζεται με την κάθε εποχή, να προσαρμόζεται και να εκτιμά την τεχνολογία, να ζει την κάθε νύχτα γαλήνια, συμφιλιωμένη με τις αλλαγές. Ο Αδάμ είναι καλλιτέχνης, πιο ευαίσθητος, ιδιοσυγκρασιακός, τον πληγώνει η ανεξέλεγκτη βία των πραγματικών ζόμπι (δηλαδή των ανθρώπων). Οι ίδιοι, αν και βαμπίρ, δεν αιματοκυλούν τον κόσμο γύρω τους (άλλωστε αυτό θα ήταν «τόσο μπανάλ και 15ου αιώνα»). Ζουν μοναχικά, προμηθεύονται αίμα από νοσοκομεία και μεσάζοντες, σέβονται τη φύση κι όλα τα πλάσματα που την κατοικούν. Οταν η κατάθλιψη του Αδάμ (έχει παραγγείλει μία ξύλινη σφαίρα για να βάλει τέλος στην αέναη ύπαρξή του) γίνει αντιληπτή από την Εύα, κάνει το υπερατλαντικό ταξίδι για να τον βρει. Οσο είναι εκεί, η αγάπη της, η αισιοδοξία και το χιούμορ της θα ισορροπήσουν τον σύντροφό της, αλλά τους περιμένει μία έκπληξη: η μικρή της αδελφή, ένα άγριο νιάτο που εδώ και αιώνες αναστατώνει τις ζωές τους θα εμφανιστεί στο κατώφλι τους για να το κάνει άλλη μία φορά.Αν υπάρχει κάτι αναπάντεχα ακαταμάχητο στον τρόπο με τον οποίο

ο Τζιμ Τζάρμους καταπιάνεται με τον προαιώνιο μύθο και το απόλυτο trend των τελευταίων χρόνων – τα βαμπίρ – μπορεί κανείς να το αναζητήσει μέσα στο σπίτι του Αδάμ, ένα παλαιοπωλείο νοσταλγίας για τον ήχο μιας κιθάρας αντίκας και τα σκρατς που κάνουν τα βινύλια όταν παίζουν ερωτικά τραγούδια. Αποφασισμένοι να μην παραδοθούν σε καμία έννοια του μοντέρνου ή του μεταμοντέρνου, αλλά σίγουροι πως όσο κι αν ο σύγχρονος κόσμος έχει ξεχάσει την αξία ενός σονέτου, ενός ροκ τραγουδιού και μιας αγάπης που μπορεί να κρατήσει για πάντα, οι εραστές του Τζάρμους δεν είναι μόνο δύο ανατριχιαστικά αιθέριοι Τομ Χίντλστοουν και Τίλντα Σουίντον, αλλά δύο σύμβολα που ισορροπούν ανάμεσα στη νοσταλγία και την ουσία του να μένεις για πάντα ζωντανός μέσα στον κόσμο που ο ίδιος έχεις επιλέξει να ζήσεις. Ακριβώς δηλαδή ό,τι κάνει εδώ και δεκαετίες ένας από τους σημαντικότερους Αμερικάνους σκηνοθέτες, εδώ σε μια από τιο πιο προσωπικές ταινίες του που κινείται με τους ρυθμούς της αγάπης που νομοτελειακά μπορεί να υπάρχει και να επιβιώνει μόνο στο σκοτάδι.

im Jarmusch is the world’s greatest old kinda guy. In “Only Lovers Left Alive”, Jar-

musch takes another look at the vampire myth, essentially writing a love letter to all those items and feelings that many people class as…vintage. Adam and Eve are two vampires, still in love after countless years. They have been together for centuries, though they manage to live apart as well. Adam lives in Detroit’s half dead industrial embrace, where he makes music inspired by the vibe of the local scene, while Eve lives in mystical Tangiers, discussing the arts with Christopher Marlow, the nameless figure behind Shakespeare’s work. Eve manages to catch up to each

age, to adapt and appreciate technology, to live each night in tranquility, at ease with the constant changes around her. Adam being the artist, is more sensitive and idiosyncratic and is constantly “bruised” by the unchecked violence of the real zombies around him, those being the humans.

Both protagonists, though vampires, do not spill the blood of those around them, considering it “banal and so 15h century”. The live a lonely life, getting their blood fix through hospitals and contacts, respect nature and all creatures that live in it. When Adam’s depression becomes apparent to Eve, she crosses the Atlantic to find him. While there, her love, optimism and humor, help balance out her partner, but they are eventually in for a surprise: her younger sister, a wild youth who has been upsetting their lives for centuries, shows up on their doorstep one more time. If there is something that is truly irresistible in the way Jarmusch approaches the centuries old vampiric myth, one of the greatest popular trends of recent times, then that can be found in Adam’s home, an antique shop full of nostalgia, from the sound of an old guitar, to the scratches emanating from an old record playing love songs. άποτε τραγουδούσε με τους Matisse, πλέον ακολουθεί solo καριέρα. Ο ίδιος ο Galliano – ο γνωστός- τον είχε παρομοιάσει με ολύμπιο θεό. Γεννηθής στο Σίδνεϊ της Αυστραλίας, ζει χρόνια τώρα στην Αθήνα. Από μοντέλο, στιλίστας και performer. Αυτός είναι ο Alex Kavvadias. Ποια είναι η ιστορία του Άλεξ Καββαδία; Μοντέλο; Rock star; Pop star; Δεν μου αρέσει να περιορίζω τον εαυτό μου με ταμπέλες και χαρακτηρισμούς. Αν και ξεκίνησα ως μοντέλο κι' αργότερα επικεντρώθηκα περισσότερο στο τραγούδι υπάρχουν ακόμα στιγμές που ασχολούμαι με την μόδα ως μοντέλο/στυλίστας/ creative director και πάντα πιστεύω ότι θα ασχολούμαι με αυτό επειδή μου αρέσει πολύ. Τώρα όσον αφορά την μουσική θεωρώ ότι θα συνεχίσω να πειραματίζομαι με διάφορα είδη μουσικής οπότε ο χαρακτηρισμός ροκ ή ποπ μάλλον δεν μου αρμόζει. Τι καινούριο ετοιμάζεις μουσικά αυτή την περίοδο; Σύντομα θα βγει το καινούριο μου τραγούδι “Childish Dream”. Είναι ένα τραγούδι glam rock (rock opera) για το οποίο μόλις ολοκλήρωσα και το videoclip. Θα ήθελα να μου περιγράψεις την πιο ομορφη εικόνα που αντίκρυσες ποτέ στην πόλη της Αθήνας και αντίστοιχα στο Σίδνεϋ. Μια από τις πιο όμορφες εικόνες της Αθήνας πιστεύω είναι τα ηλιοβασιλέματα που βλέπω καθημερινά από το μπαλκόνι του σπιτιού μου. Είμαι πολύ τυχερός που μένω σε ένα σπίτι με θέα την πόλη και θάλασσα. Μια πολύ έντονη εικόνα απο το Σίδνεϋ που θυμάμαι από μικρός είναι η διαδρομή με το τρένο από το σπίτι μου προς το κέντρο. Είναι μια πολύ ζωντανή εικόνα το πως βγαίνοντας από το πολύ σκοτεινό τούνελ ξαφνικά ξεπροβάλλει το πολύ έντονο φως στον σταθμό Circular Quay και βλέπεις την ομορφιά του

Ηarbour Βridge και της Όπερα. Υπάρχουν ελληνικές μπάντες/Έλληνες καλλιτέχνες που θαυμάζεις; Κάποιος με τον οποίο θα ήθελες να συνεργαστείς; Θαυμάζω πολύ τον Ψαραντώνη με τον οποίο έχω ήδη συνεργαστεί. Εκτός από μουσικός και μοντέλο θεωρείσαι fashion icon και δουλεύεις και ως στυλίστας. Πώς θα χαρακτήριζες το στυλ σου; Όσον αφορά το στυλ μου, μου αρέσει να κάνω mix and match απλών ρούχων με πιο ιδιαίτερα κομμάτια και σε γενικές γραμμές προτιμώ τα μαύρα ρούχα. Δεν μου αρέσει να χαρακτηρίζω τον εαυτό μου οπότε προτιμώ οι άλλοι να κρίνουν εάν με θεωρούν style icon ή όχι. Σε ποιο κομμάτι ξεκινάς να τραγουδάς με το πρώτο άκουσμα; Το αγαπημένο μου τραγούδι είναι το Bohemian Rhapsody των Queen. Είναι ένα τραγούδι που με ταξιδεύει σε άλλους κόσμους. Nομίζω ότι αυτό συμβαίνει λόγω των συναισθηματικών και μουσικών εναλλαγών του τραγουδιού όπως επίσης και της θεατρικής παρουσίας και αξεπέραστης φωνής του Freddy Mercury.

What’s the story of Alex Kavvadias? Model?

Rock star? Pop star? I don’t like putting tags on myself. Though I started out as model and later focused on my music career, there are still times when I go back to the fashion world as model, stylist or creative director and I feel like it will always be a part of me, because I really love it. As far as music is concerned, I still very much like to exper-

iment with various styles, so I don’t think that the rock or pop tag really suits me.

What are you doing musically at the moment?

I’m about to release my new track called Childish Dream. It’s a glam rock song and I’ve also just completed the videoclip for it.

Describe to us the most beautiful image you come across, both here and in Sydney.I’ll always hold the sunsets here in Athens very close to my heart. Those that I can see every day from my balcony. I’m very fortunate to have a house that looks out over the city and the sea. I also remember a very vivid image from my life in Sydney. I can recall going into town by train and as we would come out of this tunnel, we would be bathed in light and beauty of the Harbour bridge and the Opera house.

Are there any Greek artists that you admire?

Is there anyone you would like to collaborate with?I’m a big fan of Psarantonis who I’ve had the pleasure of working with already.

Besides being a musician and model, you are considered a fashion icon and you are also a stylist. How would you describe your style? As far as my style is concerned, I like to mix and match simple items of clothing with more elaborate pieces, while mainly sticking to black. I don’t like putting tags on myself, so I’d rather leave to others to define whether I'm a style icon or not.

What song do you find impossible to resist to?

What song makes you want to dance the moment you hear it?My favorite song is Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. It’s a song that takes me to another world. I think that’s mainly due to the fact that it has a lot of emotional and musical shifts and of course Freddie Mercury’s vocal and overall performance are truly incomparable . ioanna karagiorgou

εγαλωμένος στα Χανιά της Κρήτης και μόνιμος πλέον κάτοικος της Αθήνας, ο Theodore Leventakis σίγουρα αποτελεί μια εξαίρεση στο πρότυπο του σύγχρονου 'Έλληνα. O 24χρονος αντισυμβατικός σχεδιαστής μόδας, έχει δημιουργήσει ένα προπύργιο, πάνω στο οποίο χτίζει τη δική του αισθητική. Ήδη μετά την αποφοίτησή του από την ΑΚΤΟ και με το Bachelor in fashion design του Middlesex University το 2010, ξεχώρισε για το ιδιαίτερο ταλέντο του, δουλεύοντας με πετυχημένους Έλληνες σχεδιαστές, όπως ο Άγγελος Φρέντζος και ο Γιώργος Ελευθεριάδης. Θοδωρή είσαι ένας σχεδιαστής με ιδιαίτερη αισθητική. Πώς πήρες την απόφαση να ασχοληθείς με το ανδρικό σχέδιο μόδας; Ουσιαστικά δεν πήρα κάποια απόφαση. Ξεκίνησα από την Καλών Τεχνών, βρέθηκα τυχαία σε μια σχολή μόδας, και εν τέλει ακολούθησα αυτό που έδωσε υπόσταση στην έκφρασή μου. Είναι κάτι σαν μονόδρομος. Δεν το επιλέγεις, απλά ακολουθείς τον δρόμο που είναι προδιαγεγραμμένος για σένα. Αν είχες τη δυνατότητα, τι θα άλλαζες στην ελληνική μόδα; Δύσκολο εγχείρημα. Σχεδόν τα πάντα. Αυτό που με ενοχλεί περισσότερο, όμως, είναι οι μάσκες που φοράνε οι άνθρωποι πολλές φορές. Σήμερα φοράω τη μάσκα που με κάνει χαρούμενο. Αύριο, αυτή που με κάνει σνομπ. Σημασία έχει να είσαι ο εαυτός σου, αυτό είναι που μένει αναλλοίωτο στον χρόνο. Τι θεωρείς αντιαισθητικό στο ντύσιμο ενός ανθρώπου; Τα κακόγουστα παπούτσια. Το υπόδημα είναι το σημαντικότερο κομμάτι στο ντύσιμο κάποιου. Έχει την ικανότητα να απογειώσει ή να καταστρέψει ένα σύνολο. Τι θα απαντούσες σε όλους όσοι σ' αυτή τη δύσκολη περίοδο για τη χώρα, θεωρούν την ενασχόληση με τη μόδα άτοπη; Μόδα είναι κι αυτό, θα περάσει... Πώς σε φαντάζεσαι ιδανικά σε δέκα χρόνια; Είναι κάτι που δεν έχω σκεφτεί ποτέ. Είμαι επικεντρωμένος στο παρόν και προσπαθώ να εξελίσσομαι σταδιακά. Αυτός είναι ο στόχος μου. Αν πρέπει να σχεδιάσω μια ιδανική κατάσταση όμως, αυτή είναι κάπου στο Παρίσι.

rought up in Chania, on the island of Crete and now fully settled in Athens, Theodore Leventakis is surely an exception to the rule, when it comes to defining the modern Greek. An individual with highly non-conforming ideas, the 24 year old fashion designer has already built a base, upon which to build his very own aesthetic structure. Since graduating from the AKTO college with a Bachelor in fashion design from Middlesex University in 2010, his unique talent has stood out, having worked with well-established Greek designers, such as Aggelos Frentzos and Giorgos Eleftheriadis.

You're a menswear designer with a very personal sense of style. How did you decide to get involved with fashion design? I didn't really decide anything. I started with the School of Fine Arts, found myself at a fashion school at some point and finally decided to follow that which gave my expression its substance. It was a one way street. You don't choose it; you just follow the path that has been set for you.

If you could, what would you change about Greek fashion? That's a hard task. Nearly everything. What bothers me most though, is the masks that people wear a lot of the time. Today, I'm wearing my happy mask. Tomorrow it might be one that makes me a snob. It's important to just be yourself, something that remains constant over time.

What do you find ugly in someone's dress sense? Bad shoes. Shoes are the most important part of someone's style. It has the ability to elevate or completely destroy an ensemble.

What would you say to those, who during these tough times, find concerning oneself with fashion to be pointless? That that is also a fad and it too, will pass...

Where do you imagine yourself in ten years? It's not something I think about. I focus on the present and try to evolve over time. That's my goal. If I had to dream up an ideal situation, then that would be somewhere in Paris.

ην Cat Black θα τη βρει κανείς στο ιστορικό κέντρο της Αθήνας. Εκεί κυκλοφορεί, εκεί σχεδιάζει, εκεί ζει, εκεί παίζει μουσική ως DJ. Η Νταϊάνα, όπως κατά κόσμον είναι γνωστή, σχεδιάζει και κατασκευάζει ιδιαίτερα, σχεδόν σκοτεινά κοσμήματα που δίνουν με διακριτικότητα τη «λάμψη» που λείπει από την εμφάνισή μας. Γιατί έχεις ονομάσει το brand σου Cat Black;Πάντα είχα μεγάλη αδυναμία στις γάτες αλλά και στο μαύρο χρώμα (ας προσποιηθούμε ότι είναι χρώμα). Επίσης ήθελα να πάω κόντρα στις προλήψεις. Μαύρες γάτες και νούμερο 13. Υπέροχα! Τα κοσμήματα σου έχουν έντονες γεωμετρικές επιρροές και πιο συγκεκριμένα, χρησιμοποιείς πολύ συχνά το τριγωνικό σχήμα. Συμβολίζει κάτι συγκεκριμένο; Μου αρέσουν τα γεωμετρικά σχήματα. Κυρίως τα βασικά. Είναι αυστηρά και απόλυτα. Το τρίγωνο έχει ιδιαίτερο ενδιαφέρον και ιστορικά αλλά και επειδή έχει πολλούς συμβολισμούς. Για παράδειγμα ένα τρίγωνο με τη βάση του προς τα κάτω αντιστοιχεί στον ήλιο, στον άντρα και στη φωτιά ενώ το ίδιο ακριβώς σχήμα με την κορυφή προς τα κάτω συμβολίζει το φεγγάρι, τη γυναίκα και το νερό. Το ίδιo σχήμα αλλά τόσο διαφορετικό. Τόσο το blog σου όσο και τα κοσμήματα σου, έχουν native American αισθητική. Συνδέεσαι κάπως με αυτή τη κουλτούρα; H τελευταία σειρά που σχεδίασα έχει όντως Native American αισθητική. Cowboys and Indians όπως την έχω ονομάσει. Όταν προσθέσεις φτερά, raw μέταλλα και turquoise πέτρες το αποτέλεσμα οδηγεί κάπου εκεί. Επίσης η αισθητική της κουλτούρας αυτής είναι υπερφορτωμένη, κάτι που δεν κρύβω μου αρέσει πολύ. Από πού αντλείς έμπνευση; Tα πάντα γύρω μου μπορεί να αφήσουν κάτι, μια ιδέα ή μια σκέψη. Η μουσική που ακούω, πώς μπορώ να αναδείξω τα αγαπημένα μου σημεία του σώματος μας, οι γάτες, η ποπ αισθητική, η ανθρώπινη ανατομία, το παρελθόν. Υπάρχει μια ακόμη μεγάλη αγάπη στη ζωή σου. Η μουσική. Εκτός από σχεδιάστρια είσαι και dj. Πώς προέκυψε αυτό; Ήταν κάτι που ήθελα για χρόνια, αλλά είχε μείνει εκεί. Μια φίλη κανόνισε πριν απο ενάμιση χρόνο περίπου να παίξουμε ενα βράδυ μαζί στο μαγαζί που βγαίνουμε και απο τότε πήρε το δρόμο του μαγικά.. Πριν λίγες μέρες μαζί με τον Dreamer εγκαινιάσατε ένα νέο χώρο στο κέντρο της Αθήνας. Τι ακριβώς θα κάνετε εκεί; Το Neon Raum οπως το βαφτίσαμε ειναι μια ανοιχτή πλατφόρμα που συνδιάζει φωτογραφικό studio,showroom,εργαστήριο,εκθεσιακό χωρο και άλλα πολλά. Πλέον θα μπορει καποιος να βρει τα κοσμήματα Cat Black μόνιμα εκει.

at Black is one of the most well-known and recognizable figures in downtown Athens. This is where she goes, where she designs, where she lives, where she works as a DJ. Folks know her as Diana and she designs and manufactures custom made, unique, gothic inspired jewelry that add a certain missing "glow” to your outfit.

Why did you name you brand Cat Black? I was always fond of cats, especially black ones. I love opposing superstitions. When I come across black cats, the number thirteen and others such as these, it’s almost a turn on Your jewelry has strong geometric influences. To be more specific, you tend to use the triangle quite often in your designs. Does it represent anything in particular for you? I like geometric shapes. Mostly the most basic ones, as I find them simple but interesting. The triangle has a certain historic value, with so many hidden symbolisms and references. For instance: having its base downwards corresponds with the sun, the male figure, fire. Whereas having the peak turned downwards refers to the moon, the female form and water. It is the same shape and yet conveys so many different meanings.

Both your blog and your jewelry, have a Native American aesthetic. Are you somehow connected with this culture? The last collection that I designed is indeed Native American influenced. The collection is titled “Cowboys and Indians”. When adding feathers, raw metals and turquoise stones it’s almost hard to avoid ending up there. Furthermore, the aesthetic of this culture is over the top and crowded which is something that I personally prefer.

What inspires you? Everything around me resonates. It may inspire an idea, a thought or even just a small sketch I can use later. Cats, pop culture, history, human anatomy, the music I hear and how I am able to accentuate my favorite body parts all play a role.

Why did you choose jewelry as your medium? It was what I always longed to do, but it hadn’t ever gone any further in the past.

Would you like to expand into other fields? I hear music is an even bigger passion of yours. Apart from being a designer you are also a DJ. How did that come about? Almost a year ago now, a friend of mine planned to DJ at a bar we used to frequent. I was there, I gave it a go and it just magically fell into place from there.

Recently, you collaborated with Dreamer and launched an entirely new space, in the city center. What exactly are your plans for this? “Neon Raum” as we named it, is an open platform combining a photography studio, a showroom, a workshop, an exhibition space and much more. It’s a plethora of opportunities for one to find the elusive Black Cat jewellery.

The Vans store located in The Mall Athens, was transformed into an artistic set, full of street art, tattoo inspiration, colors, music and the customer’s taste combined with the creativity of the commissioned tattoo artist. The fashion loving attendees had the opportunity to help create, along with Kiriakos & CAP10’s from Sake tattoo Crew, their own unique footwear.They also enjoyed the live design experience of the window display by Sake & Tam and took home, as a gift, limited signed artworks made by Sake and Kiriakos.

“FASHION ROOM SERVICE” XMAS

Το Σάββατο 7 Δεκεμβρίου στο ξενοδοχείο Y Ηotel Athens , έλαβε χώρα το Χριστουγεννιάτικο Fashion Room Service-North Athens, το event θεσμός του περιοδικού Ozon με την ευγενική χορηγία της ABSOLUT VODKA. Για μία ακόμη φορά, συνεργαστήκαμε με σύγχρονους Έλληνες δημιουργούς και νέους καλλιτέχνες, δίνοντάς τους την ευκαιρία να έρθουν πιο κοντά στο κοινό. 13 δωμάτια του Y HOTEL μεταμορφώθηκαν σε μικρά showroom αποκλειστικά για το event. Επαγγελματίες του χώρου της μόδας, δημοσιογράφοι, φωτογράφοι και buyers κατάφεραν να τους γνωρίσουν και να δουν τη δουλειά τους από κοντά. Όλοι οι δημιουργοί φωτογραφήθηκαν με την ABSOLUT VODKA για την οποία δημιούργησαν μία ξεχωριστή γωνιά στα δωμάτιά τους, τοποθετώντας την δίπλα στα αγαπημένα τους αντικείμενα. Πέρα από τους σχεδιαστές, για πρώτη φορά οι παρευρισκόμενοι είχαν την ευκαιρία να δουν ζωντανά τα κομμάτια του e-shop του περιοδικού Ozon, στο οποίο ελληνικά labels, όπως η ΣΟΜΦ και η DIG ATHENS, διαθέτουνπολλές φορές και αποκλειστικά- δημιουργίες τους (www.ozonboutique.com), μαζί με άλλους ανερχόμενους σχεδιαστές και urban brands. Το Fashion Room Service, ολοκληρώθηκε με ένα DJ set από τον Bete Noir, στο μπαρ του Y HOTEL, ενώ οι καλεσμένοι απολάμβαναν μία παγωμένη ABSOLUT X-mas cocktail EXPERIENCE που ετοίμασε αποκλειστικά για την εορταστική βραδιά το εξειδικευμένο προσωπικό της ABSOLUT VODKA.

Saturday, December 7th. The Ozon RAW creative team presented the Fashion Room Service Athens North X-mas Edition @ the Y HOTEL Athens powered by ABSOLUT VODKA. We once again collaborated with contemporary Greek creators and alternative artists, bringing them closer to our readers. Thirteen selected rooms in the Y HOTEL, were transformed into mini pop- up showrooms giving the chance to stylists, fashion editors, fashion bloggers, photographers, press and of course the general public, to explore and discover new up and coming Greek designers and promising creators/artists.

In addition, every participating designer created a mini ABSOLUT VODKA spot next to his/her favorite creations. Moreover, it was the first time one could see all the items sold in the magazine’s e-shop from up close, where Greek labels such as ΣΟΜΦ and DIG ATHENS offer up their sometimes exclusive designs for sale along with other urban designers and brands (www.ozonboutique.com).

The Fashion Room Service event completed its course with a DJ set by Bete Noir at the Y HOTEL’s Bar, while the guests were able to enjoy a free and cool ABSOLUT X-mas cocktail EXPERIENCE, custom made by the ABSOLUT VODKA bartending team.

love moustache” powered by PHILIPS To βράδυ της 28ης Νοεμβρίου, τα γραφεία του Ozon μετατράπηκαν σε ένα urban barber shop. Ένα μεγάλο πάρτυ, με στόχο τη συγκέντρωση ενός επίσης μεγάλου ποσού, έλαβε χώρα- χάρη σε όλους εσάς. Αγόρια και κορίτσια ήρθαν για να αποκτήσουν το δικό τους μουστάκι και να προσπαθήσουν να κάνουν έναν άλλο άνδρα – που υποφέρει από καρκίνο, ευτυχισμένο.

Tα χρήματα που συγκεντρώθηκαν από το κοινό και τους εθελοντές φίλους μας οι οποίοι πήραν τη μεγάλη απόφαση να αποχαιρετήσουν το μούσι τους προκειμένου να συνδράμουν στο σκοπό μας, δόθηκαν από τον χορηγό της βραδιάς, την Philips, στην ΜΚΟ bestrong.org. gr. Αυτή η νέα συνεργασία του Ozon Raw με την Philips Greece, ήρθε σε μια προσπάθεια να αφυπνίσουμε το ελληνικό κοινό απέναντι σε θέματα ανδρικής υγείαςκαι συγκεκριμένα στον καρκίνο του προστάτη. Η κίνηση αυτή έλαβε χώρα με αφορμή τον παγκόσμιο εορτασμό του Movember. Οι 5 “εκπρόσωποι” της προσπάθειάς μας που φωτογραφήθηκαν από τον Θοδωρή Μάρκου, στάθηκαν δίπλα στα ασπρόμαυρα πορτραίτα τους με μουστάκι, τα οποία παρουσιάστηκαν εκείνη τη βραδιά για πρώτη φορά. Οι Παναγιώτης Σιμόπουλος, Marko Rossi, Παναγιώτης Μένεγος, Γιώργος Ανθουλάκης και Ευάγγελος Μπάος ήταν οι οικοδεσπότες μας σε μια βραδιά με πολλή μουσική και ιδιαίτερα cocktails. Ο Bete Noir και ο Konstantinos So S μας

έδωσαν δύο δυνατά DJ sets ενώ η ομάδα της Drinkworks είχε φροντίσει να μας δροσίσει με μικρές εκρήξεις αλκοόλ κρυμμένες μέσα σε παγωμένα βαζάκια! Σας ευχαριστούμε που ήσασταν εκεί.

On the 28th night of November, the Ozon headquarters were transformed into an urban barber shop.

We had a great fund-raising party, where all our friends (gals and guys included) came to get their own moustache, in an effort try help cancer stricken men everywhere.

The benefits from the people who volunteered to get a moustache and dared to get rid of their beard for a good cause, were donated by Philips, bestrong.org.gr, a non-profit organization. This new Ozon Raw collaboration with Philips Greece, was made in an attempt to raise awareness towards testicular cancer. We hope we were of some service to the Movember movement.The 5 “ambassadors” who were shot by Photographer Thodoris Markou, were presented with their B&W “moustached” portraits. Panagiotis Simopoulos, Marko Rossi, Panagiotis Menegos, George Anthoulakis and Evagelos Baos, were the hosts of this evening while Bete Noir and Konstantinos So S were responsible for the music selections, giving us two wonderful DJ sets as the Drinkworks team created some amazing frozen cocktails in jars! Η δουλειά σου έχει περιγραφεί σαν «σχιζοφρενική στην ικανότητα της να είναι ήρεμη, ακόμα και κυκλοθυμική». Είναι αυτή η φράση σύμφωνη με την δική σου οπτική; Είναι αστείο έτσι όπως ειπώθηκε. Θυμάμαι ότι ρώτησα ένα φίλο και μου είπε ότι διαφωνεί, αλλά πιστεύω ότι υπάρχει κάποια αλήθεια σε αυτή τη δήλωση. Η δουλειά μου έχει μεγάλο εύρος σε σχέση με το στυλ και το αποτέλεσμα. Κάποιες σειρές είναι πολύ σκοτεινές και μονόχρωμες ή συναισθηματικές, ενώ άλλες είναι πιο επιθετικές με έντονα χρώματα όπως κόκκινο και μαύρο. Υπάρχουν όμως και άλλες πολύ χρωματιστές και γραφιστικές. Έτσι είμαι και στην προσωπική μου ζωή. Περνάω στάδια όπως οι περισσότεροι άνθρωποι, όπου μπορεί να με ικανοποιεί κάτι για ένα μικρό διάστημα και μετά ξαφνικά να ενδιαφερθώ πολύ για κάτι εντελώς αντίθετο. Ανακαλύπτω και μαθαίνω διαρκώς μέσω αυτών των διαφορετικών ενδιαφερόντων. Έτσι κάπως λειτουργούν τα trends και οι ιδέες σε μεγάλη κλίμακα. Σαν κοινωνία, πιστεύω ότι ο τρόπος που σκεφτόμαστε έχει εξελιχθεί έτσι. Οι τομείς της μόδας και της τέχνης καθώς και οι επιχειρήσεις λειτουργούν υπό τον κανόνα του να κάνουν extreme πράγματα το ένα μετά το άλλο. Ποια είναι η πρόθεση (ή οι προθέσεις σου), πριν δημιουργήσεις μια εικόνα; Κάνεις κάποια προετοιμασία, υπάρχει κάτι συγκεκριμένο που θέλεις να μεταβιβάσεις; Ένα όραμα ίσως; Ή είναι η δουλειά σου κυρίως αυθόρμητη; Υπάρχουν στοιχεία και από τα δύο (δουλειές που προκύπτουν από ένα αυθόρμητο συναίσθημα καθώς και αυτές που είναι πιο μελετημένες). Κάποιες δουλειές προκύπτουν από μια «διαδικασία’», αυτό δεν είναι ακριβώς αυθόρμητο, αλλά αποτελεί μια σύνδεση μεταξύ διαφόρων μορφών εργασιών. Κάποιες σειρές όπως η Gyrate, είναι στη διαδικασία να γίνουν 3D installations και μεγάλης κλίμακας έργα. Οι προθέσεις είναι πάντα οι ίδιες, δηλαδή εξερευνώ μια αίσθηση που έχει προέλθει από μια εμπειρία, κατά κάποιο τρόπο ενώνω τις εμπειρίες (συναισθήματα) και δημιουργώ πράγματα. Μέχρι τώρα έχεις λάβει αρκετές θετικές και μερικές φορές εντυπωσιακές κριτικές καθώς και σημαντικά βραβεία.

Επηρεάζει αυτό θετικά το έργο σου; Έχεις βρεθεί κάτω από πολύ πίεση για να ανταπεξέρθεις στα υψηλά στάνταρ που έχεις θέσει; Ναί σίγουρα βοηθάει τη δουλειά και δίνει ορμή σε αυτό που κάνω. Μπορεί να γίνει πολύ σημαντικό να έχεις κάποιον άλλον να σου κάνει κριτική και φυσικά αυτό σε κάνει να αναρωτιέσαι για τη δουλειά σου και να ωριμάζεις. Πάντα προσπαθώ να βρίσκω κάποιον τον οποίο εμπιστεύομαι, ώστε να μου κάνει μια εποικοδομητική κριτική, καθώς αυτό βοηθάει την αξιολόγηση και την διαδικασία της ανάπτυξης. Αν μπορούσες να τραβήξεις μόνο μια λήψη και έπρεπε να ονομάσεις τη δουλειά σου «the look of love», τι θα έψαχνες να βρεις μέσα από τον φακό σου; Είναι βαριά ερώτηση! Πιθανόν ένα αγόρι που θα μου άρεσε πολύ εκείνη την περίοδο, ή τη γάτα μου. Ή και τα δύο μαζί. Είναι μια κλισέ απάντηση το ξέρω αλλά νομίζω ότι θα έπρεπε να είναι κάτι ζωντανό.

Your work has been described as «schizophrenic in its ability to be quiet, even moody». Does this phrase really reflect your point of view? It is funny that it was said. I remember asking a friend and they strongly disagreed, but I believe there is definitely truth in that statement. My work does range so much in terms of its style and output, some series are very dark and monochrome, or 'emotive', whereas some are aggressive with bold colours like red and black, and others are super colourful and graphic. In truth, I am like this in life also.

I go through stages like most people, where you may enjoy one thing for a short amount of time and then suddenly become very interested in the opposite side of it, which is like a way of constantly discovering and learning through different interests. A bit like the way that trends and ideals work on a large scale. As a culture, I think our way of thinking has become this way.

The fashion and art and business worlds all live by a rule of going from one extreme to the exact other. I.e. minimalism is out, long live opulence, and then minimalism

is back with even more minimalism, and then suddenly maximalism is in!

What is your intention before creating an image? Is there some sort of premeditation, something specific that you would like to put across? A vision, maybe? Or is your work mainly spontaneous? There are elements of both (works which arise from a spontaneous feeling, and those which are more premeditated). Some series arise from 'process', this isn't really spontaneous but more of a connection of various different forms of working. Some series like Gyrate are still to be awakened fully as 3D installations and wall-scale works, 'scenarios' in a large scale.

Most of the images are also like this in other series.

The intentions are usually the same. Either I am exploring a sensation which has come from an experience, in a way of connecting experience (emotion) and creating things.

Then there is also a desire to look at the way people explore contemporary culture, because obviously that is always interesting for people.

Up to this point, you have received a lot of positive and even impressive reviews along with important awards.

Does this acknowledgement affect your work in a positive way? Have you ever found yourself under a lot of pressure to meet the high standards you yourself have set? Yes it definitely helps the work and also gives momentum to it. It can be so crucial to have someone else judge your work and give you feedback, as of course this makes you question yourself and grow. I always try and find someone I trust to give me important feedback, as it really helps the editing and developing process. I don't feel the pressure in that way, only in the way to encourage work to be displayed or so on.

If you could take one last shot and had to name this "the look of love", what would you look at through your lens? It’s a heavy question! Probably the boy I like most at the moment, or my cat. Or both of them together. It’s a cliche answer I know but I think it would have to be something living...

Έχω την αίσθηση ότι είμαι μονίμως σε θέση εκκίνησης, σαν τον ποντικό γύρω από τυράκι, κύκλους όλη την ώρα, μέχρι ν’ αποφασίσω να «επιτεθώ» και να πω αυτό που θέλω, όπως ακριβώς θέλω. Σχεδόν ποτέ δεν συμβαίνει. Υποψιάζομαι, προέκυψε απλώς, για να είμαι ακριβέστερος: συνεχώς προκύπτει, αλλά όχι συχνά. Τι σε εμπνέει; Η πόλη; Η καθημερινότητα; Η ίδια η φαντασία σου; Η καθημερινότητα, μια λέξη μάλλον χιλιοβασανισμένη, και ό,τι εκείνη πηγαινοφέρνει. Αναρωτιέμαι, καμιά φορά, εάν η πόλη, για παράδειγμα, κουβαλά τη δική της καθημερινότητα ή εάν συμβαίνει το αντίστροφο. Η πόλη είναι, πάντως, ένας ζωντανός οργανισμός. Αντιθέτως, η φύση για μένα είναι προς το παρόν, ντοκιμαντέρ στην τηλεόραση και τα ντοκιμαντέρ αυτού του είδους με κάνουν να πλήττω. Από την άλλη, φαντασία δεν ξέρω τι σημαίνει σ’ αυτήν τη διαδικασία, της γραφής εννοώ. Δεν μου πάει να φαντάζομαι, παρότι λατρεύω να φαντασιώνομαι. Τι θέλεις να πεις, να περάσεις στον αναγνώστη με τα ποιήματά σου; Έχω την εντύπωση ότι λέω μονίμως την ίδια ιστορία, κάθε φορά και με άλλον τρόπο. Ωστόσο, θα ήθελα τα γραπτά αυτά ν’ αποτελούν μια, παράδοξη ίσως, παρέα. Να, ας πούμε, μια κουβέντα με καφέ, με τσάι, με πολλά τσιγάρα και δυο-τρεις-πέντε ανθρώπους που λένε και λένε και λένε. Και που δεν έχει σημασία αν βγαίνει νόημα, φτάνει που ο καθένας καταλαβαίνει τα δικά του. Τι θα γίνει έπειτα από αυτά τα λόγια είναι αλλουνού παπά ευαγγέλιο. Ας μιλάμε, κι όλα θα γίνουν. Ποιος είναι ο στίχος εκείνος που πιστεύεις σε αντιπροσωπεύει πιο πολύ αυτήν τη στιγμή; «Προσευχηθείτε για τις σκοπιές που αγρυπνούν», του Νίκου-Αλέξη Ασλάνογλου, γιατί έχω μια αδυναμία σ’ εκείνους που κρατούν γερά τη νύχτα, που βάζουν πλάτη στο σκοτάδι, σ’ εκείνους που δεν αφήνουν να ξημερώσει γρήγορα και γιατί, λόγω ρυθμών, μου λείπουν τα ξενύχτια, τα ξημερώματα εκείνα που αργούσαν. Είσαι κυνικός ή ρομαντικός; Μερικές φορές μας κάνεις να αμφιβάλλουμε. Αν έπρεπε να διαλέξω, θα έλεγα ότι είμαι κυνικός. Αν κρατάς μυστικό, είμαι ρομαντικός. Στον

κυνισμό επενδύω και σ’ αυτόν χρωστώ όλη μου την αυτογνωσία, όση έχω, τέλος πάντων· στον ρομαντισμό οφείλω τα λάθη (και τα σωστά βέβαια) που έχω αποφασίσει ότι θέλω να κάνω και να ξανακάνω και να ματαξανακάνω. Αν μπορούσες να γράψεις με εικόνες, τι είδους σύνθεση θα δημιουργούσες; Θα ήταν η Αθήνα όπως φαίνεται από ένα ρετιρέ που ’χω κατά νου στην Καισαριανή. Από εκεί, όλα φαίνονται στο βάθος, όλα φαίνονται κάπου, κάπως, αλλά φαίνονται. Αν μπορούσα να γράψω με εικόνες, θα χαρτογραφούσα επίσης τα πεζοδρόμια της Αθήνας, ένα προς ένα, κοιτώντας συνεχώς κάτω, τα παπούτσια μου. Τι αγαπάς περισσότερο σε αυτήν την πόλη και τι απεχθάνεσαι; Την αγαπώ απ’ άκρη σ’ άκρη. Κάθε της χιλιοστό. Ακόμη και το γκρίζο (πόσο κλισέ, θεέ μου) που λένε όλοι ότι έχει η Αθήνα μου αρέσει, δεν μου χαλάει καθόλου τη διάθεση. Μου αρέσουν και οι μικρές εστίες χαράς: τα σπίτια των φίλων, δυο-τρία στέκια, οι συναυλίες, τα ερειπωμένα κτίρια των αρχών του προηγούμενου αιώνα. Απεχθάνομαι τα κλειστά μαγαζιά, είναι μια εικόνα που δεν αντέχεται εύκολα, και τις τραβηγμένες, σκούρες κουρτίνες στα ισόγεια του κέντρου. Στην πραγματικότητα, απεχθάνομαι τους λόγους που συμβαίνουν, όχι τα ίδια ως γεγονός. Την αγαπώ την Αθήνα· χωρίς αυτήν, θα ήμουν ένας άλλος. Τώρα που το σκέφτομαι, μπορεί και να ’ταν καλύτερα, δεν ξέρω.

When did you start writing? Is it something you always liked or did it come out of the blue? I don’t think I’ve ever started. I have this feeling that I’m always at the starting line, like the mouse and the cheese, circling constantly, until I eventually decide to attack and say what I want, exactly how I want to say it. It rarely happens. I suspect it just happened. Or rather, it constantly happens, just not that often.

What inspires you? Every day life? Or your own imagination? Every day life. It’s such a tired term. I sometimes wonder if the city carries its every day imagery on its back, or if it’s the other way around. I mean the city is a living organism, we can choose to look at it as we will, or as it suits us, but ultimately she will do what she wants. I love cities. Urban structures hold so many stories within them. On the other hand, all that nature is for me, at least until now, is documentaries on the television and documentaries bore me. And I don’t really know what imagination means in this process, of writing I mean. Imagining

is not something that suits me, though I love to fantasize.

So what do you want to tell your reader with your poems?

I have a feeling I’m continuously telling the same story, only in a different way each time. However, I would really like for all these writings to be part of the same bunch. Like as elements of a long conversation over coffee, tea and loads of cigarettes, where having a point doesn’t really matter, just as long as everyone takes away from it what he wants.

What happens after that is another story altogether. If we keep talking, then everything will fall into place.

What’s the one lyric that best describes that moment?

“Pray for those watchmen that never sleep”, by Niko-Alexis Aslanoglou, because I have a thing for those that have a firm grip on the night, that support it, for those that don’t allow daybreak to come quickly, and because mainly due to my schedule, I miss late nights, those breaks of dawn that don’t come too soon.

Are you a cynic or a romantic? Sometimes you have us wondering. If I had to choose I’d class myself as a cynic. If you can keep a secret, then I’m a romantic. I invest in cynicism, and I owe it my self-knowledge, that which is there in any case. I owe romance all my rights and wrongs, all those things I’ve decided to do and do again.

If you could write with images, what kind of painting would you create? It would be an image of Athens, as I have seen it from a penthouse view in Kaisariani. From there, you can make out everything in the distance, you can see everything. If I could write with images, I would make a map of the pavements of Athens, one by one, by constantly looking down at my shoes.

What do you love about Athens and what do you hate about it? I love everything about it, it’s every centimeter. Even this clichéd gray everyone goes on about, I like that to, it doesn’t get to me in the slightest. I like small spheres of joy: friends and their homes, a handful of hangouts, gigs, abandoned buildings from the start of the past century. I can’t stand boarded up stores, it’s not something that is easy to look at, and those drawn, dark curtains in some of the city’s ground floors. To be fair, I hate what makes them be so, not them. I love Athens, without her, I would be someone else. Now that I think of it, maybe that would be a good thing, I really don’t know.

O Χρήστος Λούλης έχει διανύσει πολλά και σημαντικά χιλιόμετρα στο σανίδι μέσα από περίπλοκους και απαιτητικούς κάθε φορά ρόλους, και δικαίως έχει καταφέρει να θεωρείται ως ένας θεατρικός ηθοποιός από τους καλύτερους της γενιάς του. «Η αλήθεια είναι πως είμαι πια στις ειδικές δυνάμεις του θεάτρου» λέει στο OZON RAW μιλώντας για τις απαιτήσεις του νέου του ρόλου, εκείνον του Θανάτου, στο έργο του Γιόν Φόσσε «Παραλλαγές Θανάτου» που άνοιξε αυλαία πριν λίγες μέρες στο Θέατρο Πορεία, σε σκηνοθεσία Γιάννη Χουβαρδά. It’s safe to say that Christos Loulis has spent a fair amount of time on stage, grappling with some truly complex characters, so it’s no wonder that he is considered one of the best stage actors of his generation. “The truth of the matter is I’m part of the “special forces” unit of the theatre”, he tells OZON RAW lightheartedly, as he prepares for his role as Death, in Jon Fosse’s “Deathvariations”, showing (by the time you read these lines) at the Poreia theatre, directed by Giannis Houvardas.

O Φόσσε βάζει στο κέντρο της ιστορίας του τον θάνατο, ωστόσο στην πραγματικότητα μιλά για την αγάπη. Θάνατος και αγάπη πώς συνδέονται μεταξύ τους στην παράσταση; Όπως συνδέονται μεταξύ τους τα ανόμοια. Όπως ο θάνατος είναι η άρνηση της ζωής, η αγάπη είναι ο ύμνος της. Όλες οι θρησκείες με αποκορύφωμα το χριστιανισμό το επισημαίνουν. Μόνο με την αγάπη μπορείς να υπερνικήσεις το θάνατο. Με αυτήν την απόλυτη αγάπη που χωράει ακόμα και τον ίδιο το θάνατο ως κομμάτι αναπόσπαστο της ζωής. Ηθοποιός δοκιμασμένος σε απαιτητικούς ρόλους. Αυτή τη φορά άλλος ένας ρόλος πρόκληση. Πώς είναι να ενσαρκώνεις τον θάνατο και πώς παρουσιάζεται στην σκηνή του θεάτρου Πορεία; Είναι μάλλον μια πιο γειωμένη εμπειρία από ό,τι θα περιμέναμε. Κι αυτό γιατί στην παράστασή μας ο θάνατος δεν είναι κάτι υπερβατικό αλλά ένας τύπος που δεν ξέρει τη ζωή αν και μέσα σ’ αυτή. Στο έργο ο ρόλος μου αποκαλείται "ο φίλος". Έτσι έρχεται στη ζωή της κόρης, ως ένας φίλος. Χωρίς απειλή, χωρίς φοβέρα. Ως κάποιος που θα μπορούσε να λέει: Σε εμένα θα καταλήξεις στο τέλος αλλά θα είναι καλύτερα για όλους αν δεν φοβάσαι κι αν ακόμα περισσότερο, αποφασίσεις πως μ'αγαπάς. Όχι επειδή δεν αγαπάς τη ζωή, αλλά επειδή αγαπώντας εμένα θα ζήσεις καλύτερα τα χρόνια που σου αναλογούν. Επίσης πώς είναι να ενσαρκώνεις τον θάνατο πάνω σε ένα παγοδρόμιο; Η αλήθεια είναι πως είμαι πια στις "ειδικές δυνάμεις" του θεάτρου. Δεν ήξερα πατινάζ πριν αρχίσω πρόβες αλλά με καθημερινά μαθήματα πολύωρα για έναν ολόκληρο μήνα, τα κατάφερα να μπορώ να κάνω πατινάζ και να λέω και τα λόγια μου. Είναι απελευθερωτικό για μένα να ξεκινώ ένα ρόλο από μια σωματική-αθλητική πρόκληση. Έχω έτσι περισσότερη φαντασία. Με τον Χουβαρδά έχεις συνεργαστεί σε πολλές θεατρικές δουλειές, σίγουρα έχετε αναπτύξει έναν κοινό κώδικα επικοινωνίας και σε εμπιστεύεται . Πώς σε βοήθησε να προσεγγίσεις αυτό το ρόλο; Εστίασε περισσότερο στην ανθρώπινη διάσταση του ρόλου μου και με προφύλαξε από τις παγίδες του. Τώρα που διοικητικά το Εθνικό θέατρο έχει γυρίσει σελί-

δα βλέπεις κάποια γέφυρα συνεργασίας για το προσεχές μέλλον ή αποτελεί για σένα έναν κύκλο που έκλεισε; Κανένας κύκλος δεν έκλεισε. Έτσι κι αλλιώς και με την παλιά διεύθυνση, δεν ήμουν μόνιμος ηθοποιός του Εθνικού. Απλά τύχαινε να με εμπιστεύονται οι σκηνοθέτες που εμπιστευόταν ο τότε καλλιτεχνικός διευθυντής. Αυτή ήταν και αυτή ίσως να είναι και από εδώ και πέρα η σχέση μου με το Εθνικό. Στην προσωπική σου ζωή επίσης κουβαλάς πολλούς ρόλους όπως εκείνους του συζύγου, και προσφάτως του πατέρα. Έχεις αφήσει χώρο μέσα σου για το δικό σου προσωπικό «γήπεδο», εκεί που μπορείς να γυρίζεις για πάντα και να νιώθεις σαν παιδί;Ευτυχώς κάνω μια δουλειά που δεν είναι ακριβώς δουλειά. Μπορώ να είμαι παιδί κάθε μέρα και να ζω από αυτό. Δεν μπορώ να μοιράζω ακριβώς την ημέρα μου σε δουλειά και παιχνίδι. Ακόμα και το παιχνίδι με το γιο μου, όσο και να το διασκεδάζω, το θεωρώ ως καθήκον μου. Αν σου ζητούσα να περιγράψεις την αγάπη με ένα βλέμμα ποιο θα ήταν αυτό; Το βλέμμα του γιου μου προς τη μητέρα του. Επειδή κι αυτός δεν ξέρει ότι αυτό που νιώθει είναι αγάπη.

Fosse places death at the center of his story, though he really speaks about love. How are these two connected in the play? Like most dissimilar things are connected.

Just as death is a refusal of life, so is love its ultimate song of praise. All religions, especially Christianity emphasize this. Only through love can you overcome death. Only through its most complete form, which embraces death as a natural part of life itself.

You’re an actor who has been tested through some very demanding parts. This is another one of those. How does it feel to be portraying Death and how is that presented on the stage of the Poreia theatre? I think it’s a rather more grounded experience that what we expected. In the play, Death is not someone transcendental, but rather an individual who knows nothing of life, even though he is part of it. In our play he is named “the friend”, because that is how he enters the daughter’s life, as the friend, with

no threat or scare. As someone who could be saying: you will end up with me in the end, but it would be better for everyone involved if you did not fear me, or better yet, if you could decide to love me. Not because you don’t love life, but because if you learn to love me, you will enjoy the years that you have to live far more.

Also, how is it to be playing Death on an ice rink? Like I said, I’m officially a member of the theatre “special forces”. I knew nothing about ice skating before starting rehearsals, but I followed a strict regime of daily lessons and I can now skate and say my lines at the same time.

It’s a real release for me to be able to start off a role with an athletic-physical challenge. It feeds my imagination.

You’ve worked with Giannis Houvardas on many plays, so you surely must have developed a common code of communication and trust by now. How did it help you get in to your part? He focused more on the human element of the character and protected me from the pitfalls.

You’ve clocked up a lot of “mileage” on stage and especially on the stage of the National Theatre. Now that the National Theatre has turned a page, do you still see a way of working with them or is that a chapter that has finally ended for you? No chapter has ended. I wasn’t a steady fixture at the National Theatre during the previous management’s run anyway. I just happened to be chosen by the directors that the theatre’s artistic director worked with. That was the basis of my relationship with the National Theatre and it remains so.

You also play a variety of roles in your personal life, both as a husband and most recently, a father. Is there any room left for personal space, a place where you can escape to and still feel like a child? Thankfully my job is not really a job. I can be a kid every day and make a living from it. I can’t exactly separate my day between play and work. Even when I’m playing with my son, although I enjoy it, I still look at it as my duty.

If you had to describe love with a single stare, what would that be? The way my son looks at his mother.

Because he too, does fully realize that what he feels is love.

THE NOISE FIGURES real sound Οι Noise Figures είναι μία lo-fi psycho garage blues μπάντα που ξεκίνησε από την Αθήνα το 2012. Αποτελείται από τα φωνητικά και τα ντραμς του Γιώργου Νίκα σε συνδυασμό με τη φαζαριστή κιθάρα και τη φωνή του Στάμου Μπάμπαρη. Οι Noise Figures ξεκίνησαν σαν side-project ανάμεσα στους Zebra Tracks και Keyser Soze, τις μπάντες στις οποίες τραγουδούν τα δύο παιδιά. Founded in 2012, the Noise Figures set to release their first four-track E.P. in Fall 2012. Χαρακτηρίζουν τον ήχο τους βρώμικο και μας δίνουν μία ρετρό αίσθηση Καλιφόρνιας που δύσκολα συναντάμε εντός συνόρων. Το άλμπουμ ''The Noise Figures'' κυκλοφορεί σε Βινύλιο+Bonus Cd, Cd και Digital Album από την Inner Ear. The noise figures are a lo-fi psych garage blues band that started life in Athens in 2012. Giorgos Nikas is on drum and vocal duties, while Stamos Babaris also shares the vocal load and brings in the fuzzed-out guitars. With Giorgos a member of the Zebra Tracks and Stamos a part of Keyser Soze, the originally began the Noise Figures as a side project. Having just released their debut self-titled lp on vinyl and digital formats through Inner Ear, they class their sound as “dirty” and bring with them a retro Californian air, that we rarely find in Greek bands.

Κατά τη γνώμη σας, ποιος ήταν ο καλύτερος δίσκος που κυκλοφόρησε το 2013; Μεταξύ των Queens of the Stone Age - ...Like Clockwork και Thee Oh Sees - Floating Coffin είναι δύσκολο να διαλέξουμε. Ποια θεωρείτε ότι ήταν η καλύτερη στιγμή σας σαν μπάντα επίσης το 2013; Όταν κάναμε την παρουσίαση του δίσκου και είδαμε τόσα παιδιά να γεμίζουν το Six Dogs και να τραγουδάνε μαζί τους στίχους μας. Έχετε κάποια συνεργασία - απωθημένο; Δεν το έχουμε σκεφτεί ποτέ, αλλά θα θέλαμε πολύ να δούμε πως ηχογραφεί ο Ty Segall. Η κρίση σας πτόησε ή σας πείσμωσε; Και γιατί. Μάλλον μας έκανε να παρατήσουμε έστω και αναγκαστικά όλες μας τις υπόλοιπες δουλειές και να αφοσιωθούμε εντελώς στη μουσική. Ο ήχος σας, παρότι είστε μία ελληνική μπάντα θυμίζει Καλιφόρνια 50 χρόνια πίσω. Τι έχετε να πείτε για αυτό; Με τον κατάλληλο εξοπλισμό και βγάζοντας στην επιφάνεια όλες μας τις επιρροές από όση μουσική έχουμε ακούσει από την παιδική μας ηλικία μέχρι και σήμερα. Γιατί σας βασανίζουν έτσι στο (καινούριο και εξαιρετικό) βίντεο κλιπ σας για το "Out Of Your Mind"; Τι τους κάνατε; Η ιδέα πίσω από το βίντεο είναι πως ο Στάμος έχει πάθει κάτι σαν ψύχωση και έχει διάφορες παραισθήσεις. Ο Γιώργος προσπαθεί να τον συνεφέρει κάπως και τον κυνηγάει για να τον κάνει καλά. Στο τέλος πάμε μαζί σε έναν Σαμάνο, για να τον θεραπεύσει. Αυτή ήταν η μόνη σκηνή που δεν έπρεπε να κάνουμε τους κασκαντέρ. Είναι ένα από τα πιο δύσκολα πράγματα που έχουμε κάνει ποτέ. Το ότι αμέσως μόλις κυκλοφορήσατε τη δουλειά σας αμερικανικά sites έπλεξαν εγκώμιο για την ελληνική μπάντα που καταφέρνει να τους ξεσηκώνει από την άλλη άκρη του κόσμου, πώς σας κάνει να αισθάνεστε; Πλέον η ελληνική μουσική επικοινωνείται σιγά σιγά και εκτός συνόρων και αυτό είναι πολύ σημαντικό για όλη τη σκηνή. Είναι πραγματικά αισιόδοξα τα σημάδια. Τι άλλο να περιμένουμε σύντομα από εσάς; Ένα live στην Αθήνα και αρκετά εκτός, μέσα στον Ιανουάριο όλα, και μετά πάλι στο στούντιο για να ολοκληρώσουμε άλλο ένα άλμπουμ. Μας αρέσει πολύ αυτή η διαδικασία και σκοπεύουμε να το κάνουμε συχνά.

Αν με ένα στίχο ή μία εικόνα, μπορούσατε να περιγράψετε την αγάπη- τι θα μας δείχνατε/λέγατε; Love is blindness.

What was the best record of 2013? We’re somewhere in between Queens of the Stone Age “…Like Clockwork” and Thee Oh Sees “Floating Coffin”. It’s hard to choose.

What was the band’s best moment of 2013? When we presented our record and saw so many people at Six Dogs, singing our lyrics.

Is there someone that you would really like to work with?

We’ve never really thought about it, but we would really like to see how Ty Segall works.

Has the crisis held you down or made you work harder? If anything it’s made us quit all our other jobs and just focus on music.

Your sound, even though you are a Greek band is very retro-Californian. How did you make that happen? With the right equipment and by letting all our influences boil to the surface, all the music we’ve heard since we were kids and all the way up to today Why are getting such a hard time on your latest videclio “Out of your mind”. What did you do? The idea behind the video is that Stamos is suffering from some form of psychosis and is seeing things. Giorgos is trying to bring him round and is chasing after him. We end up with a shaman, so he can be healed. That’s the only scene were we didn’t need to be stuntmen as well. It’s one of the hardest things we’ve ever had to do.

You’ve just put your record out and already there are U.S. sites raving about your work. How does that make you feel? I think Greek music is now much better at communicating itself beyond our borders and that’s really important for everyone involved in the local music scene. It’s really encouraging.

What else can we expect from you? A live performance in Athens and quite a few outside the city, all within the space of January and then it’s back to the studio to record another album. We really like this process and plan to do it often.

If you had to describe love with an image or a lyric, what would it be? Love is blindness.

Ο Eddy Bogaert έχει έρθει σε επαφή και περιβάλλεται από μια πολυποίκιλη πολιτιστική κληρονομία, αφού έχει ζήσει σε πολλές χώρες σε όλο τον κόσμο. Η τέχνη του είναι σαν τη ζωή του: πλούσια, με πολλά επίπεδα τα οποία προσθέτουν μια βαθιά πολυπλοκότητα στο έργο του, γεμάτη από διαφορετικές εμπειρίες, επιρροές και συγκρουόμενη αισθητική. Στις μικτές του media δημιουργίες, ο Eddy αντλεί έμπνευση από την υψηλή μόδα, την street art, τη νυχτερινή ζωή μιας glamorous πόλης και την ποπ κουλτούρα. Με τη πρώτη ματιά, μπορεί να μοιάζει με κάτι τυχαίο, δίχως κατεύθυνση, μα καθώς αφήνεις τον πίνακα να κυριεύσει τις αισθήσεις σου, θα παρατηρήσεις ότι αρχίζει να αναδύεται μια διακριτική ισορροπία. -Από που κατάγεσαι, Eddy; Η μητέρα μου ήταν από την Δομινικανή Δημοκρατία, ενώ ο πατέρας μου προέρχεται από το Βέλγιο. Φέρω χαρακτηριστικά και από τους δύο, και εκτιμώ τις ποικίλες πολιτιστικές εμπειρίες που είχα ως παιδί. Γεννήθηκα στη Nεα Υόρκη, πέρασα το μεγαλύτερο μέρος των παιδικών μου χρόνων στη Φλόριντα, πήγα σχολείο στο Κονέκτικατ, ενώ έζησα ένα μεγάλο χρονικό διάστημα στην Ισπανία. -Που έχεις δείξει τα έργα σου; Οι χώροι που έχουν φιλοξενήσει τα show μου περιλαμβάνουν: τo Loftwoods, το οποίο είναι ένα φανταστικό studio φωτογραφίας που ανήκει στον Michael Eisenberg, σε καταστήματα μόδας στη Νέα Υόρκη όπως το Y-CLAD Jewelry Store και το The French Corner, ενώ πρόσφατα είχα ένα show στο Subject, το οποίο είναι ένα bar στο Lower East Side καθώς και στο Exchange Alley στο East Village. Είμαι πολύ ενθουσιασμένος σχετικά με την επερχόμενη εμφάνισή μου κατά της διάρκεια της Αrt Basel στο Eden Roc Hotel στο South Beach.

-Πόσο καιρό ζωγραφίζεις; Ζωγραφίζω ολοένα και πιο σοβαρά τα τελευταία δύο χρόνια, ως αποτέλεσμα του ότι πολλοί άνθρωποι το απολαμβάνουν και με προτρέπουν να αφιερώσω περισσότερο χρόνο στη τέχνη μου. Πρέπει να παραδεχτώ ότι ποτέ δεν επιδίωκα την τέχνη ως καριέρα. Συνήθως, έβρισκα ένα λόγο να εκφραστώ μέσα από τη ζωγραφική και να δώσω το έργο ως δώρο στους φίλους μου. Όταν άτομα άρχισαν να προσφέρονται να αγοράσουν τη δουλειά μου, τότε έγινα πιο σοβαρός με την τέχνη μου. Έχω μελετήσει αρκετά το street art εδώ, στη Νέα Υόρκη, καθώς και άλλα αστικά περιβάλλοντα, εξυπηρετεί ως μια πηγή έμπνευσης και μου δίνει τη θέληση να εξερευνήσω διαφορετικά μέσα, χρώματα και μορφές. Η πρώτη ανάμνηση του εαυτού μου να σηκώνει ένα πινέλο ζωγραφικής, ήταν στην ηλικία των έξι ετών περίπου, οπότε θεωρώ ότι ανέκαθεν είχα πάθος για την τέχνη και τη δημιουργία ομορφιάς με τον δικό μου, μοναδικό τρόπο. -Χρησιμοποιείς εικόνες και φωτογραφίες συγκεκριμένων μοντέλων, τι σε κάνει να επιλέξεις αυτό το πρόσωπο ή το κορίτσι; Συνήθως η ομορφιά τους με τραβά σε εκείνα. Η περισσότερη τέχνη μου φέρει ένα υπονοούμενο της σεξουαλικής έλξης, του πάθους και της επιθυμίας, έτσι επιλέγω εικόνες με βάση τις δικές

μου προτιμήσεις, τι με ιντριγκάρει ή με διεγείρει. -Λες ότι η τέχνη σου λέει ιστορίες. Είναι βασισμένες στις εμπειρίες σου ή σε κάποια πρότυπα; Οι ιστορίες είναι δικές μου. Τι νιώθω, οι σκέψεις και τα συναισθήματα που με περικυκλώνουν την ώρα που ζωγραφίζω. -Describe your style of art. How would you call it? I like to describe it as “chaotic balance.” At first glance, it may appear to be random and without direction, but as you let the painting envelope your senses you will find that a subtle balance begins to emerge. -What is your ethnic background, Eddy? My mother was from the Dominican Republic and my father comes from Belgium. I have qualities and traits from both of them, and appreciate the diverse cultural experiences that I had as a child. I was born in New York, spent most of my youth in Florida and school in Connecticut; as well as spending a good deal of time in Spain. -Where have you shown your artwork?

Venues that have hosted my shows include: Loftwoods, which is an amazing photography studio owned

by Michael Eisenberg; fashion stores in New York City, such as the Y-CLAD Jewelry Store and The French Corner; and recently, I had a show at Subject, which is a bar in the Lower East Side and at Exchange Alley in the East Village. I am really excited about my upcoming show during Art Basel at the Eden Roc Hotel in South Beach. -How long have you been painting? I have been painting more and more seriously during the last two years, as a result of many people enjoying it and encouraging me to dedicate more time to my art. I must admit that I was never pursuing art as a career. Usually, I would find a reason to express myself through painting and give them as gifts to my friends. When people started to offer to buy my work, it helped me become more serious about my art. I have studied a lot of street art here in New York City, and other urban settings; it serves as a source of inspiration and gives me a willingness to explore different mediums, colors and forms. My first memory of picking up a paint brush was when I was about six years old, so I think I’ve always had a passion for art and creating beauty in my own unique way.

-When you use images or pictures of a certain model, what makes you choose that face or particular girl? Usually their beauty draws me to them.

Most of my art has an undertone of sexual attraction, passion and desire; so I choose the images according to my own preferences and what intrigues or arouses me. -You said your artwork tells stories. Are the stories your experiences or do they belong to the models themselves? The stories are mine; what I am feeling, my thoughts and the emotions that surround me as I am painting. danae terzakou

Eddy Bogaert has been surrounded with a diverse cultural heritage and has experienced life in many countries around the world. His art is like his life: rich with many layers which add a deep complexity to his artwork; full of diverse experiences, influences and contrasting aesthetics. In his mixed media creations, Eddy draws inspiration from high fashion, street art, glamorous city nightlife and pop-culture. He embeds magazine covers, comp cards from fellow models, as well as editorial images, spray painting and Jackson Pollock-style splatter painting. Juxtaposed in the complex layers, his paintings have discreet subliminal messages, which can be seen under certain lighting conditions if one is paying close attention. Never formally trained, his modern approach and visual aesthetic has led him to be compared to such contemporary artists as Mr. Brainwash, and Sam Francis yet his style is unique and enlivening; it is currently receiving a lot of attention in the New York City art scene.

O Κωνσταντίνος Κουγιάλης γεννήθηκε το 1980. Σπούδασε Animation/Illustration στην Καλών Τεχνών και σεναριογραφία στο πανεπιστήμιο του San Jose State στη Καλιφόρνια. Έχει ζήσει στο Σαν Χοσέ, στο Σαν Φρανσίσκο, στο Λονδίνο, στο Παρίσι, καθώς και στην Αθήνα, πριν επιστρέψει στην Κύπρο στα τέλη του 2010. Συνεργάστηκε με το Γαλλο-Ελβετικό δημιουργικό δίδυμο των Antoine Asseraf και Rene Habermacher (Stimuleye). Έχει εκθέσει δουλειές του σε μεγάλες πρωτεύουσες του κόσμου, έχει σκηνοθετήσει και γράψει σενάρια για τηλεοπτικές σειρές και θεατρικά έργα, ενώ ιδρύοντας με τον συνεργάτη του Denis Constantinou, τη MilkCart, ενα δημιουργικό project, έχουν εκπροσωπήσει την Κύπρο σε διαγωνισμούς. Παράλληλα, καταπιάνονται με comics, animation, διαφημήσεις και street art.

Έχοντας ζήσει σε διαφορετικές πόλεις ποια θεωρείς πιο κοντά στην ιδιοσυγκρασία σου για να ζεις; Και σε ποια θα έλεγες ότι αντλείς περισσότερη έμπνευση από τα εξωτερικά ερεθίσματα που λαμβάνεις; Tο San Francisco είναι μια καταπληκτική πόλη για να ζεi κανείς και έχει πολλά να προσφέρει από άποψη δημιουργικών ερεθισμάτων. Βέβαια, δε νομίζω ότι θα το επέλεγα ποτέ -ανάμεσα στις πόλεις που αγαπώ- για να κάνω το δημιουργικό μου ξεκίνημα.. Το Λονδίνο και το Παρίσι τα αγαπώ. Μου αρέσει η Αθήνα, μα συνάμα με τρομάζει. Θεωρώ, ότι όσον αφορά τις πηγές ερεθισμάτων έμπνευσης, δεν υπάρχει καμία πόλη τόσο μοναδική. Η Κωνσταντινούπολη είναι μια φανταστική πόλη. Τεράστια, μια πληθώρα από αντιθέσεις και χρώματα! Μακάρι να μπορούσα να ζήσω δέκα ζωές. Να γεννιέμαι ξανά και ξανά και την εκάστοτε φορά να διαλέγω και μια διαφορετική πόλη για να ζήσω. -Σαν άνθρωπος είσαι πολυπράγμων και έχεις ασχοληθεί με διαφορετικούς τομείς όπως η ζωγραφική, το street art, τα illustrations μόδας, η σκηνοθεσία και η συγγραφή σεναρίων. Ποιος από αυτούς τους τομείς σε γοητεύει περισσότερο; Από όταν ήμουν παιδί και ύστερα όταν ξεκίνησα να είμαι περισσότερο μέσα στα πράγματα και στις έννοιες, και να τις κατανοώ, ήμουν συνεπαρμένος από την ιδέα ότι μια γραμμή μπορεί να καταλήξει σε κάτι το θεϊκό. Στα μάτια μου, αυτή είναι η ουσία της δημιουργίας και είναι ένα πανέμορφο πράγμα. Όλοι οι αγαπημένοι μας πίνακες, τα σχέδια και τα έργα τέχνης που σήμερα αποκαλούμε «αριστουργήματα» ξεκίνησαν από μια γραμμή. Γραμμές! Ακόμα και στο γράψιμο, μια ιδέα αποτυπώνεται στο χαρτί μέσα από μια γραμμή. Γραμμές που αν τις «συναρμολογήσεις» εκδηλώνουν κάποιου το όραμα και τα όνειρα. Συνεπώς είμαι γοητευμένος από όλα αυτά. Για μένα η σκηνοθεσία είναι η υπέρτατη τέχνη. Μπορεί να ακούγεται ελαφρώς υπερβολικό, μα θεωρώ ότι αποτελεί την τέχνη που τα συνδυάζει/περιλαμβάνει όλα.

-Έχεις δηλώσει ότι έχεις αδυναμία στα παπούτσια. Εκτός από αυτά έχεις κάποιο άλλο φετίχ ή εμμονή στο ντύσιμό σου; Με ελκύει η όλη ιδέα που κρύβεται πίσω από την κατασκευή τους. Είναι κάτι εντελώς άβολο, και όμως το απόλυτο mainstream φετίχ των γυναικών -και όχι μόνο. Όλα έχουν να κάνουν με την αισθητική, την αρμονία, την ευκολία και γενικά τη φροντίδα. Οι άνθρωποι δε νοιάζονται πλέον. Απλά αντιγράφουν/ αναπαράγουν μια εικόνα από το διαδίκτυο ή από κάποιο περιοδικό και τέλος. Αυτός είναι πιθανότατα και ο λόγος που το προσωπικό στιλ έχει εκλείψει στις μέρες μας. Σε μια εποχή πληροφόρησης οι άνθρωποι υστερούν σε ιδέες. Θα σου πω ένα πράγμα που έχει κάνει το διαδίκτυο για μας: μας έχει μετατρέψει σε τεμπέληδες.

-Τα steet art έργα σου θα τα χαρακτηρίζαμε κάπως επαναστατικά, όπως το λόγο σου στο blog σου. Η κοινωνικοοικονομική κατάσταση, θεωρείς πως επηρεάζει την τέχνη σου; Δε θεωρώ ότι το street art μου είναι είτε ανατρεπτικό είτε επαναστατικό. Θα το αποκαλούσα ωραιοποιημένο. Μερικές φορές όταν παραθέτω κάτι ή κάνω ένα σαρκαστικό σχόλιο, τότε και μόνο τότε μπορούμε να το ονομάσουμε κάτι περισσότερο από ωραιοποιημένο, αλλά ποτέ επαναστατικό. Επί τη ευκαιρία, θα ήθελα απλά να πω: Μείνετε μακριά από τα μάρμαρα! Είναι πολύ δύσκολο να τα καθαρίσεις! Υπάρχουν παντού

αρκετοί τοίχοι και επιφάνειες. Όσο για την κοινωνικοοικονομική κατάσταση, σαφώς και επηρεάζει την τέχνη μου. Πρωτίστως την ψυχολογία μου. Το χρήμα κινεί την τέχνη. Και θα χρειαστείς λεφτά ή έστω κάποιον με λεφτά, έναν πατρόνα, σε περίπτωση που θες την τέχνη σου εκεί έξω. Πρέπει να συναναστραφείς με συγκεκριμένους ανθρώπους. Όλα είναι αλληλένδετα. Δυστυχώς. -Having lived in a number of cities, which one do you consider closer to your personality? And which city provides you with the most inspiration? San Francisco is an amazing city to live in and it has a lot to offer in terms of creative inspiration. That being said, I don't think I would ever choose it over other cities I love, to make it my creative springboard. London and Paris I love. I think when it comes to stimuli there is no other city as unique as Athens, though it scares me. Constantinople is an amazing city. Vast in its plethora of contrasts and colors. I wish I could live ten lives. To be born over and over again, choosing a different city to live in each time. But that’s impossible. -You’ve tried your hand at a variety of fields, from street art to fashion illustration, directing and script writing. Which of these fields interests you the most? Ever since I was a child and later on when I began to delve further into things and notions and comprehend them, I was enthralled with the idea of a simple line which ends up becoming something divine. In my eyes that is the essence of creation; and it is a beautiful thing. All of our beloved paintings and drawings, that we now class as masterpieces began life as a line. Lines! And even when writing, an idea is manifested on paper through a line. Lines that when put together manifest one's vision and dreams. So I am mesmerized by all of it!. To me directing is the ultimate art. It may sound a bit over the top but I think it is the art that encompasses everything. -You’ve declared a shoe fetish.

Do you have any more of these? Some obsession with your dress sense? I like the whole concept behind the making of them. It's utterly uncomfortable yet it’s an absolute fetish of women, and not just them either!. It's all about aesthetic harmony and ease, and generally caring. People don't care anymore. They just copy an image from the internet or some magazine and that's it. That's why personal style has vanished nowadays. There’s such a plethora of label-made information out there, that it is hard for many to create their own unique style . I'll tell you one thing the internet has done for us: it’s made us lazy. -Your street art could be classed as revolutionary, much like your words on your blog. Does the current social and financial climate affect your art? I don't think my street art is neither subversive nor revolutionary. I would call it beautifying. Sometimes, when I quote something or make a sarcastic comment, then and only then you may call it something more than beautifying but never revolutionary.. Taking the opportunity that I am given here, I just want to say: stay the fuck away from the marbles! They’re hard to clean! There are plenty of walls and surfaces everywhere! As far as the socioeconomic situation, of course it affects my art. First and foremost it affects my psychology! Money affects art. And you need money or somebody with money, a patron, to get your art out there. You need to mingle with certain people, rub shoulders with certain people. It's all interconnected. Unfortunatelly.

dino kouyialis Milkart

Constantino (Dino) Kouyialis was born in 1980. He studied Animation/Illustration at the school of Fine Arts, as well as screenwriting in Northern California's San Jose State University. He lived for ten years in San Jose, San Francisco, London and Paris, as well as Athens before relocating to Cyprus in late 2010.

He has collaborated with Franco-Swiss creative duo Antoine Asseraf and Rene Habermacher (Stimuleye). He's exhibited his work in many of the world's capitals, written and directed TV series and plays, while promoting MilkCart, the creative design project he founded with Denis Constantinou. Together they have represented Cyprus in international festivals, and are always keen on new challenging projects like comic books, animation, advertisments and street art.

Από πού αντλείς έμπνευση; Εμπνέομαι από τον κόσμο γύρω μου! -Πώς επιλέγεις κάποιον για να τον φωτογραφίσεις; Δεν έχω συγκεκριμένους κανόνες, απλά πρέπει να μου αρέσει κάποιος αρκετά. -Ποια ιστορία σε οδήγησε στο Λος Άντζελες; Είναι μια ιστορία αγάπης. Ξεκίνησε με μία σχέση απόστασης, πολλά ταξίδια και κατέληξε σε έναν αγαπημένο γάμο. -Παρατηρείς πολλές διαφορές στον τρόπο που ντύνονται και αντιλαμβάνονται τη μόδα οι άνθρωποι στην Αθήνα και οι άνθρωποι στο Λος Άντζελες; Δεν νομίζω πλέον ότι αντιλαμβάνεται διαφορετικά ο κόσμος την μόδα όπου και να βρίσκεται. Αυτό που διαφέρει όμως, είναι το κλίμα και οι ανάγκες της κάθε πόλης. Αυτή την διαφορά την βλέπω. Για παράδειγμα, στο Λος Άντζελες δεν κάνει σχεδόν ποτέ πολύ κρύο και για αυτό δύσκολα θα βρείς ανθρώπους ντυμένους με χειμερινά ρούχα. -Πλέον το street style έχει πάρει τεράστιες διαστάσεις, θωρείς ότι οι σχεδιαστές επηρεάζουν το street style, ή επηρεάζονται από αυτό; Είμαι σίγουρη πως γίνονται και τα δύο.

-Στις εβδομάδες μόδας, υπάρχουν περιστατικά όπου το τι γίνεται έξω από τα shows παίρνει μεγαλύτερη δημοσιότητα από τα ίδια τα shows; Ποια είναι η δική σου γνώμη; Δεν το βρίσκω κακό. Είναι μία πολύ φυσιολογική εξέλιξη. -Παρακολουθείς άλλα blogs και ποια είναι αυτα; Βέβαια! Τα 2 αγαπημένα μου είναι το Urban Fieldnotes και το Hel Looks. -Υπάρχει κάποιο συγκεκριμένο στυλ ανθρώπου που σε ελκύει ιδιαίτερα και σπέυδεις να το φωτογραφίσεις; Υπάρχουν φορές που πριν προλάβω καν

να σκεφτώ ότι μου αρέσει το στυλ κάποιων, τους έχω ήδη σταματήσει και τους μιλάω. Υπάρχει όμως μεγάλη ποικιλία στα στυλ που με κάνουν να αντιδρώ έτσι. Νομίζω πιο πολύ είναι η αυτοπεποίθηση των ανθρώπων που με τραβάει. - Where do you draw your inspiration from? From the world around me! -How do you choose who to photograph? I don’t have specific rules, it just depends on who I like at the time. -What led you to Los Angeles? It’s a love story. It started out as a long distance relationship, loads of travelling and ended up in a happy wedding.

-Do you notice a lot of differences between how Athens and Los Angeles understand fashion and style? I don’t think people understand fashion and style differently anymore. What is different is climate and the needs of each city. That’s the main difference I’ve noticed. The weather is rarely cold in L.A. for example, so you don’t often see people in winter clothing here.

-Street style has really grown in stature, do you think designers are inspired by street style, or is it the other way around? I’m sure it goes both ways. -Do you think it’s good or bad that what happens outside the fashion week shows, has become more important than what happens inside them? I don’t think it’s bad. It’s just a natural progression. Do you follow other blogs?Of course!

My two favorite ones are Urban Fieldnotes and Hel Looks. -Is there a style that you can never say no to and always want to photograph?

There are times when I’ve stopped and talked to someone without even thinking about liking their style. But that happens to me with a variety of styles. I think I’m mostly drawn to peoples self-confidence. nelly skoufatoglou

I also exercise on a daily basis, it’s something that helps me let off steam and focus.

Your field of interest is one which focuses heavily on one’s appearance. Do you believe that each person’s sensuality is dependent solely upon that? Of course not. I think that what matters most is personality, which when combined with your appearance makes a person attractive.

Those are the things that help me relax from all the pressures that my job brings with it. It’s a way of life for me now. I also make sure I exercise daily. However, it needs to connect with what’s inside you as well. Someone who has a really interesting view of things can also be sensual.
