ART EXHIBITS GRANT WOOD Iowa-born artist Grant Wood is most well known for his paintings of clandestine scenes of the American Midwest and his 1930 painting, American Gothic. In 1926, before he became nationally recognized, Wood painted three murals of Iowa landscapes for local hotel magnate Eugene Eppley. These murals were known as the Corn Room Murals. One of the murals lived inside the Chieftain Hotel in downtown Council Bluffs. Through the passion and hard work of local preservationists, pieces of the Chieftain Hotel’s mural were painstakingly salvaged. Now, large parts of the restored mural have a permanent home in the Hoff Family Arts & Culture Center’s Richard & DeAnna Miller Grant Wood Gallery, making it the perfect place to bring Grant Wood’s story to life.
