KSO Spectacular highlights the grand Eastern European orchestral idiom that pervaded the late Romantic Era of music. Composers like César Cui and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov were able to paint soaring sweeping melodies that were native to their homeland. Out of this elegant and refined music came Sergei Rachmaninoff whose style reflected a synthesis of indigenous and domestic sounds with a polished comprehension of sophisticated piano performance. Dr. Fred Hanna composes in this idiom as to achieve what can only be accomplished through mastery of the instrument. Playability of Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff on the piano can be viewed as the pinnacle of achievement as a mature pianist. We are lucky and fortunate to have Dr. Kristín Jónína Taylor, Assistant Professor of Piano at UNO to perform Dr. Hann’s Piano Concerto No. 1. It will be anexhibition of virtuosity unlike any other.
