JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2019
FROM THE
EDITOR Woohoo! A new year, and new beginnings for 2019! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday! Those who know me best know I love the holidays – everything about them brings me joy! Getting together with family and celebrating is what it is all about! From Thanksgiving to Christmas, to New Year’s Eve – it all goes by way too fast! But once January 1st is here, I am ready for the adventures ahead.
P.O. Box 41430 • San Jose, CA 95160 (408) 888-2503 • Fax (408) 776-9811 Publisher & Managing Editor: Heidi Beljean — (408) 888-2503 Email: pacshow@earthlink.net
The New Year gets kicked off with lots of sales for hogs, sheep, and goats. And Jackpots are in full swing! It is exciting to get started with new projects, and you can’t wait to get them out and compete to see how they stack up to the competition. My attention at this time of year is focused on the CJLA Award Ceremony for all the kids that were members in 2018, and showed at our sanctioned shows. It is so exciting to be able to honor these young people for their hard work and achievements.
Production Manager & Art Director: William Crump — (662) 305-5434 Email: pacificshowcase@gmail.com
We are doing the Award Ceremony differently this year! We won’t be having a dinner banquet and award presentation. Instead, we are having an Award Ceremony at each showring throughout the day on Saturday, February 16th. Western Bonanza Junior Livestock Show is graciously working with us to coordinate the show with our Award Presentations! It promises to be an exciting and fun new way to show EVERYONE what our awesome members have accomplished! If you are there, be sure to come by and cheer for the kids! We will also be having a silent auction, with Western Bonanza, from Friday to Saturday, with lots of great things for people to bid on. We will have some great CJLA outerwear and goodies for sale. Be sure to check it all out!

Pacific Showcase limits its liability resulting from any and all errors, misprints and/or other inaccuracies in the advertisements and editorial content. The opinions or views expressed in all editorials are those only of the writer or persons interviewed and not the Pacific Showcase.
We are always excited to do the awards for the CJLA kids, but it takes a lot of support to get it all done. We need your help! If you haven’t signed up to be a sponsor – Give me a call or contact me if you have questions. WE NEED HELP! WE NEED SPONSORS! We did mail out Sponsor Packets to all previous donors plus many more people – but we found out no one received them! They were mailed first class and received at the post office, but then they were never processed! My worst nightmare came true when I found out no one had received them! We only found this out just before Christmas and we have been scrambling ever since. If you can help, we have a sponsor form in this issue, or you can go to the CJLA website – www.cjlainfo. com – for a full sponsor packet, or GIVE ME CALL AND WE CAN TALK! Our entire Award Program depends on the generosity of so many people who care about our kids and this organization. We truly cannot do this without you! I apologize for sounding so desperate but this is where we are at right now. Please help us not disappoint our CJLA members! The CJLA was started in 2000, and has been able to accomplish so much for our members because of the generosity of our donors. We cannot say “THANK YOU” often enough for this wonderful support year after year! Be a part of this outstanding group who believes in these bright stars!

Time to Plan Ahead!
As I sit here at my desk, I have to admit my mind is slightly overwhelmed with all that needs to be done in the next month or so. I have my spiral notebook out and am working on a to-do list for the week ahead and also making notes for the next few months as I think of something that will need to be accomplished. I never lose this notepad, it is my reference and reminder when life gets busy and I can’t remember a thing! It’s a crazy life, but it’s a good life!

CJLA NEWS & UPDATES As you read this, 2018 has entered the record books! Some of you may wonder where the last 12 months have gone, and some of you may be ready to leap into 2019! For us at CJLA, it’s a little of both! As you read this, we are busy working on the Annual Award Presentations to honor the 2018 membership. This is always an exciting event held in February (this year it will be February 16, 2019) at the Mid State Fairgrounds in Paso Robles.
online. 2019 is definitely going to be a better year! You can also find the complete 2019 Sanctioned Show List on the website (www.cjlainfo.com) and we have it in this issue for your reference. The Show List has all the show details and contact information for each show. And the shows place their ads in each issue as well. Keep in mind that show information can change and we put all updates on the website. You will need to contact each show for their entries and any specific questions you have about their event. The 2019 CJLA Rule Book is also on the website and we encourage everyone to print a copy for reference and to review the rules throughout the year. If you have any questions about membership, divisions, or rules, please contact us right away so we can help you and you don’t miss out on any part of the association! It is much better to ask than to not know an answer or miss out on something!
We are doing something a little different this year! Instead of the dinner banquet and awards, we will be announcing awards ringside throughout the day on Saturday. Western Bonanza is graciously working with us and will stop their show while we are doing our presentations. We have set times for the awards at each ring and all information is in the letter we sent out to all our members. It promises to be fun and exciting and we hope everyone will come and cheer for the kids as we recognize them for their achievements! We will have a place set up for everyone to pick up their CJLA t-shirts and packets and will also have our Silent Auction for everyone to bid on the great items that are being donated. Look for us around the main showring and vendor area for the CJLA tables! If you have questions, please contact us!
The regular method of communication from CJLA is by email. We send E-blasts through Constant Contact so if you are not hearing from us, please be sure we have your correct email address or have us add you to our lists. We also post on the website and in this magazine but you need to read our emails to receive our updates. We do our best to get the information out to you on a regular basis. So…go full speed ahead into 2018! Set new goals and work hard to achieve them! Be sure to enjoy the journey along the way! We will see you on the road!
We can sure use your help with a couple of things for the banquet! We continue to need Sponsors and Donations. We found out that our huge mailing to all sponsors and new donors never arrived in their mail. It was panic time because we rely on our donations to reach our goal of rewarding the members. Everything goes back to our membership in the form of awards so it’s a very worthwhile and MUCH APPRECIATED gift. IF YOU CAN HELP IN ANY WAY OR KNOW OF SOMEONE, LET US KNOW! If you have any questions at all, please contact Heidi and she can discuss everything with you. We also need donations for our silent auction. This is always a highlight as everyone loves to bid on all the exciting items!
CJLA Questions? Emails can be sent to cjlainfo@yahoo.com or through the CJLA website: www.cjlainfo.com Heidi Beljean: 408-888-2503 or pacshow@earthlink.net (CJLA Info, Memberships, & Sponsorships)
The 2018 final points and placings are posted in this issue and on the CJLA website for anyone who would like to view them. ONCE POINTS WERE COMPLETED FOR THE YEAR, we allow the members a validation period to check the points and for us to review any questions. That timeframe overlaps when we completed this issue of the magazine, so there may be a few adjustments that are not reflected here. It was definitely a competitive year as members attended sanctioned shows and exhibited their animals to earn points for the year-end awards. CJLA is so appreciative of the efforts of all our shows and our members! We apologize for the issues we encountered in 2018 regarding online memberships and appreciate your understanding. It took a while but we finally got everyone accounted for. Thankfully, we got a new system set up to fill out the membership application directly through the website and then pay

JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2019
Pacific Showcase does something every year to honor these Seniors.
1– Just send their senior picture AND a picture when they first started showing. 2– Write their name, the town they're from, the name of the high school they're graduating from, the college they are attending, the major they've chosen, and the species they showed — on a piece of paper and send them in to: Pacific Showcase P.O. Box 41430, San Jose, CA 95160
Deadline to send pictures in is June 15th. We will be featuring these pictures in the July/August issue.
You can also send the photos and information by email to
pacificshowcase@gmail.com.
Also, include a self-addressed, stamped envelope if you want the pictures back.
Please put "Graduating" in the subject line!
