Sure Coat Biotin
, is a tremendous vitamin for HAIR GROWTH.The major benefit of Biotin is its ability to strengthen both the hair follicle and hair shaft, along with increased elasticity of the cortex to prevent hair breakage and dryness. This enables healthy, FASTER HAIR GROWTH.
Pro-Vitamin B-5, is the king of all HAIR CARE vitamins. It stimulates healthy scalp circulation which leads to improved hair health. As an added benefit, it also possesses superior long term moisturizing properties because of its unique ability to penetrate and nourish the hair shaft; then sealing the surface to protect and make the hair shine.
Vitamin E, is an antioxidant that stimulates circulation throughout the skin and supports capillary growth. When there are more capillaries, the circulation improves leading to increased nutrient absorption into the hair follicles, which speeds hair growth.

FROM THE
EDITOR Here we are – it’s July and summer is in full swing! The heat is here, too, and that brings another whole set of issues to deal with. This past winter, California had an abundance of rain and the mountains saw record snowfall amounts. The grass, weeds, trees, and brush grew like crazy and it was a beautiful thing to see after several years of dry and drier conditions.
P.O. Box 41430 • San Jose, CA 95160 (408) 888-2503 • Fax (408) 776-9811 Publisher & Managing Editor: Heidi Beljean — (408) 888-2503 Email: pacshow@earthlink.net
But now that everything is summer dry, fires are starting to break out. And the hot weather means more snow is melting and overflowing our reservoirs and causing flooding downstream. It’s crazy to think of all these factors happening at the same time – fires in one spot, flooding in another. But it brings us back to something we all should have learned during the recent drought. Everyone needs to be prepared! Fires, floods, earthquakes, tornadoes, or any disaster, can all be handled better and more safely if you have a plan in place. Don’t wait until nature strikes to decide what to do. Preparation now means peace of mind later.

And while you are thinking about how to best deal with this heat, be sure to think about your animals. Do they have shade and plenty of fresh water? Are they stressed because of the weather? If so, what can you do to help them be more comfortable? A lot of people are loading their trailers and heading down the road to junior nationals, shows, state fairs, and county fairs. Have you planned for how your animals will be most comfortable on those trips? Do some research, talk to others who have been on the road in the summer heat, and prepare ahead of time so you will arrive at your destination with animals that are fresh, healthy, and happy!

This season of national, state, and county fairs is a busy time but it’s also a great time because it is spent with family, seeing friends, meeting new people, and competing with your animals. You get to show what you have learned and compare your animals to others. This is usually the highlight or culmination of this project you began a year or many months ago. Did you reach the goals you set at the beginning? The best outcome is one you are proud of and which makes you excited to start all over again!
Pacific Showcase is published bimonthly. It is mailed first class and third class bulk mail at Morgan Hill, California. Postmaster: send address changes to Pacific Showcase, P.O. For processing of new subscriptions - please allow 4 to 6 weeks. For address corrections, send current mailing label along with new address to Pacific Showcase.
As July comes to an end, that means the next month brings….. Yep, you guessed it! School!! I know, I agree with you when you say, “Didn’t I just get out of that place”? “Yesterday, Mom?” “Are you sure it was months ago?” Aaauuggghhh! Sorry! I just had to mention that ‘S’ word a little, even if the kids don’t want to hear it!

I always think of the start of school as a new beginning. Time to regroup, make changes to those things you need to work on, or just get re-inspired to work hard for what you want to accomplish. So go forth with an open mind! You will be surprised what may jump in!

All Ages for All Major Fairs including Ventura, Antelope Valley, Kern, Santa Maria, Mid-State, Del Mar
That familiar road, the trek from jackpots to fairs along Highway 99, is where the Colburn Cattle Company cut its teeth and created its champion pedigree. In 1992, Ron and Lisa Colburn and their sons Tyler and Ryan started buying breeding heifers to exhibit across the competition circuit. From the start, it was a family game, with younger siblings tagging along and the group making memories while winning jackpots.
FOR MORE INFORMATION As theSheree boys matured so did the Colburn Company619-5246 operation. Ryan •Cattle (661) • 5RWayRanch@gmail.com The Colburn family set one goal that has become the foundation to their program — to produce top-quality cattle for the youth in today’s highly competitive junior livestock arena. We are proud to offer one of California’s most functional show cattle facilities, where junior showmen can learn all aspects of the livestock industry. From daily care of show steers to embryo transfer to AI, our program has opportunities for all levels of competitors.
One of the most exciting times for the program is the last Saturday of October, when we open up our facility for our annual Open House Event. We love nothing more than opening the gate of our facility to loyal customers, wonderful friends, family and all who are interested in our program. On October 28th, we will open the gates for great meals, trap shooting, a Stock Show U Fitting Clinic, dinner and live entertainment.
Steer Sale on Show Circuit, and November 2nd – Crossbred Heifer Sale on Show Circuit. One of Abraham Hicks’ most famous quotes is “If you’re not excited about it, it’s not the right path.”
This year, Colburn Cattle Company will be celebrating 25 years of operation, the Silver Anniversary. As we look to the future of Colburn Cattle, we recognize the potential is endless and we could not be more excited for the set of animals we will be presenting at our next events. The highlight of these sales will be October 30th – Angus Female Sale on Angus Live, November 1st –
Right now, at Colburn Cattle, with the management of the operation led by Matt Avila, we have achieved success we never dreamed imaginable. We are humbled by the rewards of our work that started so long ago as a family pounding the pavement on the 99. It’s our dream that we create a path for success for more families chasing jackpots and fair titles.

Highlights From The
World Pork Expo Junior National Des Moines, IA was the place to be June 4-10, 2017 as the stage was set for the World Pork Expo Junior National. Hosted by the National Junior Swine Association and Team Purebred, the Junior National set another record for the number of participants with 1,050 youth exhibitors from 32 states. This event is considered one of the nation’s premiere youth swine shows, and combines educational activities such as Skillathon, Swine Judging, Live-Hog Competitions, and Showmanship. The youth show filled the barns with 2,500 hogs exhibited this year, and several Western States exhibitors stood out in the competition, placing well in several breed divisions, as well as showmanship and skills contests. Traveling from California, Reagan Rodgers placed 7th in Novice Showmanship, 5th in Novice Sweepstakes, 1st in Class 1 Yorkshire Gilts, and 3rd in Class 23 Crossbred Gilts. Payton Rodgers exhibited the Champion Hampshire-sired Crossbred Barrow. Wyatt DeBusk placed 6th in the Senior Division Sweepstakes and showed his two entries to 5th in Class 11 Duroc Gilts and 9th in Class 1 Landrace Barrows. The Reserve Champion Overall Duroc Barrow title went to Elijah Johnson, while Alia Rodgers drove her entry to be chosen Reserve Champion Overall Duroc Gilt. Alia’s second entry placed 6th in Class 7 Duroc Barrows. Kade Backman exhibited the 2nd place entry in Class 1 Duroc Gilts, while Nelson Hanson stood 8th in Class 7 and 6th in Class 10 with his Duroc Gilt entries. Whitney Whitaker was 3rd in Class 11 Duroc Gilts and 2nd in Class 23 Crossbred Gilts. Lucia Abreu caught the judge’s eye with a 2nd place in Class 5 Crossbred Barrows and 2nd in Class 8 Yorkshire Barrows. Angi Ruffoni rounded out the California team with her Crossbred gilt placing 6th in Class 18. Arizona exhibitors received with their entries against strong competition. Kelsie Brooks was 5th in Class 19 Crossbred Gilts, and Cole Nasser drove his Crossbred Gilt to 7th place in Class 1 of that division. Kambri Skinner was 6th in Class Continued on page 31

NEWS & UPDATES!
The Points Are Here! ALL SHOWS ARE INCLUDED EXCEPT PORK SPECTACULAR. A few shows did not provide complete information on division champion and reserve winners so those points are not included yet. Once we receive all that information, we will update the points to reflect those corrections. If you have questions about your point totals, please contact us so we can go over our records! Our point tabulator asks that you provide a record of the shows you went to and your placings so she has a reference point to start researching the show results. It is much easier for her to look up the information when you can tell her you went to show A,B, and C and she doesn’t have to also look through 10 other show reports to see if you exhibited there.
the end – so if your goal is Top Ten, remember those tie-breakers I just mentioned! And if you have questions about how the points are awarded, please contact us! We are here to help!
We have had many inquiries about how we get information out to everyone. We mainly send out E-Blasts with news, information, and point updates. We also post everything on the CJLA website and in each issue of this magazine. Due to the cost of postage, we only mail paperwork for year-end stuff unless there is a special instance where we need to get paper copies to all members. PLEASE be sure to read your E-Blasts – if you are not getting any – let us know so we can double-check your email addresses!
When you are figuring your points, remember that your top eight shows count for year-end totals but the tie breakers for both division and showmanship are the number of shows you earned points at in that division. It often happens at the end of the year that placings change based on this tie-breaker rule! So keep on trucking and keep on showing! Summer provides a bit of a break from showing for points, so we hope you are all enjoying some vacation time. JULY/AUGUST 2017
Continued from page 12 section, and in the news and Upcoming Events we always post in each issue. Another thing is if you are putting on a show, or you are a show photographer, we really! really! really! want you to send us your pictures for our show result section! Everyone loves to see the show photos, so the more we can get in each issue, the better!
sometimes, people will send in something they wrote which is fun to read, and I put those in the magazine when I can. Summer means we are mid-year through the CJLA show season! In this issue, the points are posted. Be sure to read the CJLA News in that section to find out more details. We are continuing to have record numbers of members each year so if you want to be a part of the CJLA, we start memberships for the next year (2018) in September. You will be able to find an application in the September issue or go to the CJLA website –www.cjlainfo.com – and join online. We always need sponsors and donors for our Award Program for our hard-working juniors! Please contact me so we can include you as a part of the group who believes in our kids and what the CJLA offers to them.
Please call me or contact me any time to talk about CJLA, shows, upcoming events, something you want to send in, or whatever you want to discuss! Until next time – stay cool, take care of your animals, and plan for your next adventure!

JULY/AUGUST 2017
Since the inception of the Distinguished $20,000 Sullivan Supply/Stock Show University Youth Scholarship in 2008, we have gifted over $185,000 to a group of young individuals with unmatched talent. This year we received 1391 applications from 43 states and Canada. It’s been eye-opening and our great pleasure to see these kids grow within this great livestock industry. And it is because of them that it keeps getting better. We also want to take time to thank our scholarship selection committee of industry leaders (non-Sullivan Supply employees or family members) who spend many hours of volunteer time to help us with this mission. Congratulations to all 1391 applicants. Sincerely, John Sullivan, Founder Sullivan Supply, Stock Show University

It goes without saying the positive influence Brown Sugar had in his short life at STG. Like many others who used Brown, the quality and consistency of his pigs were outstanding. It was obvious a son needed to be kept back. Shots Fired is the one we were waiting for. He is the ultimate barrow sire. He is armed with all the needed weapons to make major barrow show winners. He has a tremendous head carriage and stands on giant feet and legs. He is huge backed and great hipped, while being ideal in his length of body. All of his angles are correct and he is extra good in terms of head carriage and hind leg design. Don’t miss your chance to breed to one of the most exciting barrow sires to stand at STG.
