Fresh & Feminine™
This exciting new product has been proven with results and the demand for repeat orders has been tremendous. In fact, many of the major steer and heifer show winners from the past month feed Fresh & Feminine™, the secret to eye appealing show cattle! Feminine shape and freshness throughout the front end of your show animal spells ultimate success or failure in the show ring today. This is how this feed supplement works … the superior science of Fresh & Feminine™ features a combination of strategic vitamins, minerals, amino acids, antioxidants and a high concentration of by-pass protein sources. This chemistry boosts metabolic fat burning in the body that targets specific areas of the body to reduce fat content, most notably in the neck and brisket area. The animal has a more feminine, attractive physique and even moves better. This helps to offset the results seen from aggressive, high energy show cattle diets. All natural and fertility safe for open heifers, bred heifers, steers and bulls. Simply top dress 6 oz. per head per day of this pelleted supplement on your current ration until desired freshness has been achieved.

FROM THE
EDITOR Happy September – Happy Fall! Here we are, the start of the new school year! This brings excitement at being in new classes or maybe even a new school, new sports teams, new educational challenges to conquer. And that’s just school time – the past months have been filled with county fairs, state fairs, and junior nationals. Some of you had amazing fairs or shows, some of you exceeded your goals, and some of you are still wondering “what happened,” because you didn’t do as well as you thought you should have. Every show where awards are given out, and you hold that prize in your hand at the end of the day, should make you think about what you are accomplishing and how that ribbon or trophy is a reflection of not only what you have done, but also as an inspiration for what you want to achieve next! What will be your next challenge? What goals will you set for the upcoming year? Or what can you learn or improve upon from the experience you just had?
P.O. Box 41430 • San Jose, CA 95160 (408) 888-2503 • Fax (408) 776-9811 Publisher & Managing Editor: Heidi Beljean — (408) 888-2503 Email: pacshow@earthlink.net Production Manager & Art Director: William Crump — (662) 305-5434 Email: pacificshowcase@gmail.com
If you aren’t learning from what you just did, then others will pass you by. You always need to be building on the “better you”! You are never too old to learn, nor do you have so much knowledge or skill that there isn’t room for improvement, readjustment, or reevaluation. If you think you know it all and rest on your laurels, there will definitely be someone else who steps up to the plate and spends more time in the barn, practices harder and longer, talks to more people for help, or “eats, breathes, and sleeps” their dedication and drive to “be better”! That person with that mindset will rise up and blow everyone away!

It’s great to enjoy success when you receive it, but always know that the next level is there to strive for. With fall here, it’s also the start of the New Year – new animal year that is! It is time to start the hunt for the next great one. This was always my favorite time of year when I was in 4-H. To make the contacts, get in the truck and hit the road, to look for that next winner – the anticipation is so exciting! This issue is filled with advertisements for upcoming sales and breeders you can visit to buy your next project. Call or contact these people to find out what they have to offer. Make plans to visit in person if you can. Even with the YouTube videos and all kinds of social media venues to view animals from your desktop, it is still a great idea to get out in the pens and really evaluate animals. And talking to a breeder in person gives you one-on-one time where they can help you and you can formulate opinions based on actual in-person observations. You can check out our Breeders Directory for more names to call on. Don’t wait too long, because other junior buyers are on the same mission you are to find that next great one!

Fall also signals planning for the end of year CJLA activities. The next banquet is mere months away. February sounds far out there, but in reality, it will be here before we know it. Sponsor information will be sent soon – we always rely on the generosity of all the wonderful people who support CJLA. 2016 memberships are open – there is a form in this issue and will be posted on the CJLA website. You can pay with PayPal through the website if that is easiest for you. Just be sure to join before the first 2016 show you attend – points start accumulating when we receive your 2016 membership application and payment.
Time to Plan Ahead! The November/December Issue is our
Jackpot Issue and the Start of the Sheep, Hog and Meat Goat Sales
This issue is packed with show results. We would like to put more county fair and jackpot results in this section, but many times they are either not sent to us, or no pictures are taken at an event. In the next issue, we have the “Fair Time Highlights” section just for this reason. Send in a picture of you and your animal with awards you won, and we will put it in. Check out the ad to see what to send, and wording needed. We want to recognize your achievements!

Pacific Showcase is on Facebook and Instagram – be sure to check us out there and be our Friend, to catch all the posts and news from us! ABOUT THE
COVER
It’s hard to believe that sale time is just around the corner – time just seems to fly by anymore. Over the past several years the growth of our sales has built many new relationships and great opportunities to expand our commitment to this business. We feel quite blessed with the opportunities it has presented us and the great people we are able to work with. This past year has been very rewarding. Working with this group of young people and watching the success they have achieved has been second to none, and while it will be hard to replicate that success this year we are definitely up to the challenge. Once again we will bring you two sales as options to find your next project or breeding piece this fall. November 7 will mark the 3rd annual RL and Associates Steer Sale in Madera. Last year's sale featured many steers which have won on National, State and Local levels in price ranges that can fit any budget. We feel this year will be no exception and are actually quite excited about the offering. November 28th we will follow with the second annual RL Collection Female Sale which will feature top show heifer, donor and bred heifer prospects. There is a deep set of maternally bred females that should excel no matter what your priority may be.
with you. We pride ourselves not only in selling some the the most elite, but most importantly focus on extreme depth to the quality we sell with affordable cattle that go on to win tough shows. Please feel free to call and discuss options or preview cattle, we would love to help make your dreams more than dreams!
A large majority of our offerings will represent the heart of our genetics as well as some of the top programs and friends that we are fortunate to work with such as Wheeler Cattle, Porter Cattle, Bartels Livestock, Red River Farms, Ward Cattle, Ryan Person and Heimer Cattle. We know there are many great options to source your next project, but would love the opportunity to work

CJLA NEWS & UPDATES! In the last issue we were talking about vacation activities – but now Summer is over and School Days have arrived! With Fall approaching, CJLA is already looking toward the end of the year and the upcoming Banquet! For CJLA, there are several shows still left on the schedule. These last shows can often change the whole standings and point totals for many members. Keep on trucking and showing, and you have good chances to improve your scores by the end of the year.
email that requires your attention. I have some people who tell me they don’t read our emails - but this is how we correspond 99% of the time! We have posted for years now that most of our communication will be through email to save mail costs. We do our best to get information out, then its’ your responsibility to read what we send! As the end of the year approaches, CJLA will be sending sponsor information out to all members and also CJLA Ballots and Banquet information. It’s never too early to think about talking to those you know to see if they would like to help support the CJLA Award Program through a donation. Heidi can follow up if you want and talk to them further about CJLA and how their support helps us achieve our goals for awards.
**SHOW UPDATE** Northern Exposure Fall Classic scheduled for November 7-8 will be held at the fairgrounds in Orland (NOT in Yuba City as previously posted) It is two sanctioned shows for steers and heifers – but they ARE NOT HOLDING CJLA MKT GOAT SHOWS OR ANY ABGA SHOWS THIS YEAR. Contact information for Northern Exposure is the same: Natalie Reis-Sanchez 530-682-0356 nreis@digitalpath.net.
Those of you showing in the Heifer Division – Have you joined the California Junior Heifer Association for your breed yet? (This relates to the Angus, Hereford, Shorthorn, Charolais, Maine Anjou, and Limousin divisions). As an incentive to join those associations, we are giving BONUS POINTS that count in your division (not for overall points). You had until May 31st to join and earn 15 bonus points, but you still have until the end of the year to join and earn 10 bonus points. It’s a very small dues fee to pay and not only support that association of the breed you have chosen to exhibit but to also earn extra points to add to your division total. I don’t know about you – but I would sure hate to place lower in the year-end standings because the person above me had those bonus points and I didn’t! More information on this is on the CJLA website along with the contact names for each association. If you have questions, CONTACT US!
In this issue, the points include ALL SHOWS THROUGH SURF N TURF. As always, check your totals and your information in your divisions. Any questions, you need to contact us so we can review your records. We recommend that everyone keep track of their placings at each show. It makes it much easier for us to go back and check show results if we know what shows you went to – it saves a lot of time too!
Watch for emails from CJLA and check the CJLA website for updates! We will be working on show dates for next year to be posted in the November/December magazine and on the CJLA website.
The 2016 membership application is in this issue of the magazine. WE ARE ALSO UPDATING OUR PAYPAL ON THE CJLA WEBSITE, www.cjlainfo.com. You will be able to fill out the complete membership information when you pay by PayPal. This was a problem this past year so we have worked to correct that and we should then have all your information when we receive notice of PayPal payment.

The 29th Annual
LAMBTOWN FESTIVAL Saturday, Oct. 3rd - Sunday, Oct. 4th, 2015 Dixon May Fair Grounds - 655 S. 1st Street, Dixon, CA
Lambtown is a celebration of all things sheep and they intend on representing all aspects of this wonderful animal and the business that surrounds it. This year the Lambtown Committee refocuses the event in hopes of reengaging Ranchers, Students, Consumers and Sheep Business Community from throughout Northern California and Solano County.
This year we will offer free admittance to current members in uniform of FFA, 4-H, Grange youth and Active US Military. A “Club Lamb” exhibit and class area is being promoted in addition to the iconic Lamb cooking classes, cook off, spinning, shearing, Sheep Dog Trials, Fiber Fair, etc. A “Know the Breed” exhibit area is being organized with examples of as many sheep breeds that can be assembled.
• •
•
The Lambown organizers would like to encourage you to participate in our celebration in any way possible. If you could help Mr. Lloyd McCabe in the staging of “Club Lamb”, participate as an exhibitor, promote the event out into the Northern California community or even join Superior Farms, Pacific Showcase Magazine, Dignity Health, Sams/Walmart, Ply Magazine and others in providing a sponsorship to help defray the cost of hosting this event, the committee would be most appreciative. For more information on “Club Lamb” at Lambtown, please contact Gary Erwin at gerwin@moscone.com or go to www.lambtown.org.

California’s Best Livestock Judging Camp Nasco, Weaver Show Supplies, Yosemite Meats Company, Rival Feeds and SureChamp.
The first annual California’s Best Livestock Judging Camp was held on August 6th and 7th in Modesto, CA at the Modesto Junior College Agriculture Pavilion. The two-day event, which covered evaluation and reasons, attracted over 190 students and adults from California, Nevada and Oregon.
Next year’s camp date will be determined after the first of the year, however, the camp will be held at Fresno State’s Pavilion. Next year looks to add another day, a small contest, plus we will be teaming up with the Fresno State’s Meats Judging Team to simultaneously host a meats judging camp. Thank you to everyone who made 2015’s camp a success and we hope to see everyone in 2016.
After being split into groups for beginner, advanced, and adults, the participants spent Thursday rotating through various workshops listening to industry leaders explain the breeding and market standards of each species. Thursday night the participants and industry leaders enjoyed pork loin dinner and concluded day one with an intense dodge ball tournament. The second day began with nine classes of livestock, which were provided by various breeders around the state. Before the camp concluded Friday night the participants got the opportunity to work on oral reasons. The camp was hosted by Fresno State, Modesto Junior College, Chico State University, College of the Sequoias, Reedley Junior College and Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. The colleges previously mentioned would like to thank the following sponsors of this event; Associated Feed Company, Farmer’s Best Feed, O.H. Kruse, Alltech Inc., California Pork Producers Association, Wool Growers Associated, showpig.com, Yosemite Farm Credit,

During the 2015 National Junior Angus Show July 13-18 in Tulsa, Okla., six young people were elected to serve as new directors. Scholarship Opportunity, Future Angus Stockmen About Future Angus Stockmen
Undergraduate students encouraged to apply for the $1,000 scholarship by Sept. 30.
The American Angus Association launched Future Angus Stockmen as an effort to impact young cattle producers through learning and networking opportunities, while also building a bond with the Angus breed and its member-driven organization.“
The American Angus Association launched the Future Angus Stockmen program earlier this year to help equip the next generation of commercial cattle producers with the knowledge and tools they need to be successful. Thanks to generous support from Allfex USA, the Future Angus Stockmen program will award a $1,000 scholarship to a young man or woman involved in the commercial Angus business.
Our goal with the Future Angus Stockmen initiative is to give young producers who want to play a role in beef production the jumpstart they need to be successful in the business,” Gottswiller says. “Strong skills in communications, marketing, data analysis and business planning are critical in our industry’s challenge to produce quality beef.”
“We are incredibly grateful to Allflex for sponsoring the first-ever scholarship through Future Angus Stockmen,” says Ginette Gottswiller, Association director of commercial programs. “This is a fantastic opportunity for any young cattle producer with an interest in building their future in the commercial Angus business, in addition to the many benefits associated with the Future Angus Stockmen program.”
Future Angus Stockmen is aimed toward college-age or recent graduates who want to raise high quality Angus-based commercial cattle. The program will offer educational opportunities that teach participants how to thrive in the cattle industry, social networking to connect them with fellow producers and leadership development to instill an entrepreneurial spirit and drive to improve their businesses
The winner will be notified in October 2015, and the scholarship presented during the Angus Means Business National Convention & Trade Show, Nov. 3-5 in Overland Park, Kan. Applications will be judged on the participant’s future agriculture career path, passion for beef cattle and leadership experiences within the industry.
Enrollment forms are now available online, and can be completed at any time.
To be eligible, the applicant or applicant’s parents/guardians must have transferred or have been transferred a registration paper in the last 36 months (on or after May 1, 2012). They must also have an affiliate member code or a current membership with the American Angus Association.
There are two options when enrolling in the Future Angus Stockmen program. Participants can choose to enroll 15 or 30 head, and receive substantial cost savings for valuable programs, such as GeneMax Focus™ DNA tests, AngusSource® or AngusSource Genetic, and MaternalPlus® or Beef Record Service enrollment.
Applications are available for download online and must be postmarked by Sept. 30. Reference the application for more instructions on how to apply.
For more information on Future Angus Stockmen or the scholarship opportunity, visit www.angus.org.
