FROM THE
EDITOR September is upon us! The Fall season has arrived and brings with it the cycle of some things ending and others beginning. Those who raise livestock to show and sell know Fall as the season to wrap up the projects you have been raising for the past 3 or 6 or 9 months. County fairs showcase the culmination of those months of hard work, dreams, and hopes of achieving success. And as we all know, this is also the season of new beginnings as you already look forward to selecting new prospects and planning the future months of feeding, training, and showing. This is an exciting time as you look ahead to the possibility of finding “the one” - that “one” you can see in your mind and will use as your guide when you visit sales and breeders to make your selections!

I always enjoyed this time of year when I was growing up because I could go from breeder to breeder or to different sales and see what was out there. The thrill was in the search, then making a choice, and then getting my new project home! I have talked about this before: This is the time for you to make your plans, set your goals, dream the big dreams, and then work to make them a reality. The best part of a project is the journey, and success in whatever form comes from your efforts from day one. So dream big, work hard, and have fun – it is all worth it!

So here I am talking about Fall, and I’m wondering where did this year go? I know that the older I get, the faster time goes. I remember, as a kid, thinking that Christmas, or my birthday, or holidays, would never get here! But now I think time feels like it goes faster because we all have so much on our plates and time doesn’t stand still and wait for us to catch up! I know that families who are involved in showing, sports, school and school activities have their hands full fitting everything in!

I read a quote that I just loved – “A journey is best measured in friends rather than miles”! With each mile driven to whatever you and your family are involved in, may you gain another friend who will bless your life in some way. Life is so short, so take each mile as a reward for time cherished with family and friends. You never know how the friendships you make will impact your life through the years!

CJLA 2019 is running hard right through the end of the year with lots of shows still ahead. As this year wraps up, we are already thinking of 2020! This issue starts the 2020 membership drive for the CJLA. Check out the application in this issue. If you want to join, you can mail in the application and payment or you can go to the CJLA website and enroll online using the PayPal feature. If you have been going to the jackpots throughout the year, hopefully you have learned a lot, added new friends to your group, and have done better than the year before. CJLA is so fortunate to have the support of so many people, families, and businesses so that we can honor and recognize our members at the annual award ceremonies. CJLA is going on its 21st year and when an organization has been active this long it is easy to forget about what it takes to keep it going. It is always our goal to recognize all members in some way, and to reward top ten winners in all divisions with special prizes. In order to do this, we need financial support from many different avenues! If kids and junior livestock projects are something you believe in, this is a way for you to give back and support those involved! If you are interested, or know someone who is, please let me know so I can get out more information. I would love to visit with each of you about my vision and passion for the CJLA! We will be sending out sponsorship forms soon, so when yours arrives in the mail take a few minutes to read through it, give me a call, or share it with others! It takes a village, but the cause is so worth it!
Subscriptions: (Bulk mail - one year - $25; two years - $45.) (First class - one year - $35; two years $65.) For processing of new subscriptions - please allow 4 to 6 weeks. For address corrections, send current mailing label along with new address to Pacific Showcase.
