Trend Research- Umbro Introduction:

Trend predictors work several years in advance, so must have a deep understanding of what will become ‘current’ as opposed to what is ‘current’. It is very important for both product areas and market levels within the sportswear and fashion sectors to be in line with or indeed ahead of the pack. Both the design of the products and the style/format the promotion takes need to be directional, and take into account the various shifts occurring in the market place. in other words, you need to have your finger on the pulse, and to achieve this you must use the research sources at your disposal, various forms of market intelligence and your creative intuition.

Aims:

- To increase primary researching ability. - To understand/apply the importance of current trend and story telling. - To increase and develop a professional standard of finish ready for industry.

Brief:

Examine trend information relating to Autumn/Winter 2012 through focused research from a variety of sources, and carefully select on theme, which appeals to you from the three presented. - Classic - Modern - Future. Show how the chosen trend can influence the Ramsey Jacket.

Project 2 Product Development

Melissa Burgess Introduction:

Project 2 Product Development

You are required to launch a new product or service for an existing company. This product should be innovative and exciting and open new markets for your chosen company. The product also has to be commercially viable and specifically related to the fashion industry- it does not have to be clothing.

Aims:

- To further develop and refine market research skills. - To promote an understanding of commercial viability. - To develop written ability in the form of market reports. - To continue visual presentation development.

Brief:

You are required to choose an existing fashion related company and launch a new product or re-vamp an existing product that has gone off the boil. Once you have chosen your product/company, you then have to research that particular area of the market and justify why there is a sufficient gap to be filled by this new product or re-launch. This will involve extensive research and target customer examination. You then have to decide on the best method of promoting your new product/company and produce the necessary promotional material.

Learning Outcomes:

- Identify and implement a wide range of research sources and methodologies. - Illustrate an ability to thoroughly analyse research and select appropriate media for practical solutions. - Demonstrate a professional level of computer competence in relation to graphic solution. - Apply numerical skills in relation to budget considerations. - Apply writing skills to a professional standard across a range of academic requirements. - Demonstrate an ability to plan and manage time in respect of an increased work load. - Apply imaginative and creative solutions to a range of promotional problems.

- To develop research skills and brain storming in groups. - To develop the use of digital photography. - To enhance presentation techniques. - To develop team working skills.

Brief:

Decide what road Trip means to you- what is the look? Classic jeans and T-shirt looks, tomboy, punk, leather etc. This is a group based project and within your groups you are required to organise and style a photo shoot, reflecting the Road Trip theme.

Learning Outcomes:

- Identify and implement a wide range of research sources and methodologies. - Debate the appropriateness of creative solutions to specific problems. - Select, justify and apply appropriate methods of presentation/layout. - Illustrate an ability to thoroughly analyse research and select appropriate media for practical solutions. - Display an ability to communicate and participate in team projects.

Project 4 International Branding

Introduction:

India has been acknowledged by many business pundits throughout the world as one of four countries who are likely to make a significant impact on the economic profile of the world, they are commonly referred to as the BRIC countries; Brazil, Russia, India and China.

Aims:

- To increase knowledge of upcoming graphic trends. - To understand/apply the importance of brand guidelines. - To increase and develop a professional standard of finish ready for industry.

Moving forward, the client would like the brand product not only to appeal to the current customer, but also to appeal to a younger customer profile to increase sales and profit reflecting higher price and quality.

Learning Outcomes:

- Interpret solutions through a knowledge of trend/colour direction. - Debate the appropriateness of creative solutions to specific problems. - Select, justify and apply appropriate methods of presentation/layout. - Apply imaginitive and creative solutions to a range of promotional problems. - Select and apply the most appropriate IT solution to a given problem or task.
