I am a student at the University of Central Lancashire, in my second year of study, studying Fashion Brand Promotion and Marketing. I am an outgoing hard working person, whom easily gets along with others. During my time at University I have needed to meet deadlines, and as I am determined to ensure my work is produced within the time frame my organisational skills have developed. As my aim is to obtain a high graded degree, I believe work experience, relevant to the areas of my degree, would strengthen my knowledge. Role: Sales Assistant Company: Next December 2007 (Christmas temp) Duties involved: working on the fitting rooms, replenishment of stock and assisting customers. Role: Sales Assistant Company: Next March 2006 for 2 weeks (School work experience) Duties involved: Household cleaning, putting out stock, working on the fitting room, working in the stock room and also I worked in the office for a few days.

I have acquired skills through things that I have done in my life so far. I am very comfortable with using a computer and I have learnt these skills during my ICT A-level, which covered various types of skills by creating databases and spreadsheets, creating power points and learning about the internet and how it is becoming so important. During my time at university so far I have also learnt skills using the programs Photoshop and Illustrator. I am also capable of using a sewing machine producing garments and products for my textiles A-Level. My most recent skill I have acquired is the skill of researching; I have realised how important it is in industry to research as failure in doing the correct research would mean failure overall. Other skills that I have acquired are people skills; through work, college, university and joining clubs for various activities the skill continues to develop.

Trend predictor’s work several years in advance, so must have a deep understanding of what will become ‘current’ as opposed to what is ‘current’. It is very important for both product areas and market levels within the sportswear and fashion sectors to be in line with or indeed ahead of the pack. Both the design of the products and the style/format the promotion takes need to be directional, and take into account the various shifts occurring in the market place. In other words, you need to have your finger on the pulse, and to achieve this you must use the research sources at your disposal, various forms of market intelligence and your creative intuition.

Modern

Brief

Examine trend information relating to Autumn/Winter 2012 through focused research from a variety of sources, and carefully select one theme, which appeals to you from the three presented.

Classic

Future

1. 2. 3.

Classic Modern Future

Develop the theme by researching surface texture or pattern, trims/details, graphics, photography and finally colour palettes. These may emerge from existing AW2012 trend themes. Your initial research, evidenced through your sketchbook/file, must encompass a comprehensive view of the seasons’ trends, before making your theme choices. Along with a word document with all the references and websites used, this must be alphabetical order in the Harvard format. Information should include both primary and secondary research. Show how the chosen trend can influence the Ramsey Jacket.

Project 2 -

Product Development For this module you are required to launch a new product or service for an existing company. This product should be innovative and exciting and open new markets for your chosen company. The product also has to be commercially viable and specifically related to the fashion industry.

Brief

You are required to choose an existing fashion related company and launch a new product or re-vamp an existing product that has gone off the boil. Once you have chosen your product/company, you then have to research that particular area of the market and justify why there is a sufficient gap to be filled by this new product or re-launch. This will involve extensive research and target customer examination. You then have to decide on the best method of promoting your new product/company and produce the necessary promotional material. Try to plan/manage your time accordingly in order to keep the project on line.

Project 3 - Online PR In the fast moving industry of promotion where cost is always an issue, all cost effective forms of promotion are considered. PR’s have to now consider print and broadcast formats as well as digital and social media when promoting their brand combining traditional and new PR techniques. The most traditional technique is the press release containing details of the product/service as well as contact details. To keep the information from bypassing their target audience, a very concise list of select target media is created in the hope of the press release being used in editorial or a review.

Brief

Digital media and social networking are now a huge part of the way we communicated with each other and they are a key tool for PRs and brands to communicate with consumers. You are to produce a micro site for a brand and product line for one of the five brands provided below. The site will inform the media and consumers about your new product taking in consideration ways to communicate with media and consumers alike. Research your chosen brand and consider a product/service development for them, leading to a new domain name for your micro site e.g. www.designthatperforms.com for the new range from Samsung. Whatever your product, carefully consider the possible design layouts through research. Produce a series of pages which illustrate your layout ideas. Consider adding video, images and flash inserts.

This project I used the brand Nando’s to create a micro site around their sauces which can be bought to use at home. The microsite domain name is: www,experienceathome.co.uk.

Project 4 - Group Photography Photography and brand promotion are intrinsically linked, in most of the campaigns you develop between now and graduation, photography will play a major role. It is therefore essential that you get to grips with styling, studio work and working with a professional photographer, in order that you get the best results from your creative ideas.

Brief- Road Trip

Decide what road trip means to you- What is the look? Classic jeans and t-shirt looks, tomboy, punk, leather etc. Look at style.com, WGSN, Trendstop.com for an A/W11 catwalk show for inspiration and to base your shoot around, and compile mood boards for the overall feel of your story. Using style.com, WGSN, Trendsetter.com and all the A/W11 catwalk shows, select a number of looks you would ideally like to use for your shoot and create look boards. This is a group based project. Each group should assign themselves a company name and should perform in a professional manner. Ideas will be presented at crit in front of a panel. The following roles should be considered for each member of the group. • Project Director • Model scout • Location scout • Photo shoot Liaison/Art Director • Clothing Manager • Stylist • Researcher • Graphic Artist
