RESEARCH

PROJECT OBJECTIVE Brooks and Jillissa Moorman are in hopes of builidng their dream home to accomodate their four children. It is important for each of the kids to have their own space that is tailored to their personalities and includes ample storage. As they often host family and friends, they require plenty of dining and living spaces. The Moorman’s are interested in building a lower level for recreational use and a more informal environment.

In hopes to design a comfortable, personalized home for the Moorman family, I met with them to discuss their specific opinions for each space. Attention to detail in the space planning is important to create the most functional space for their family. Having all of the bedrooms on the main level and the guest suite on the lower level to increase privacy.

DESIGN SOLUTION Each room is tailored to exactly what their family needs. Spacing was thoroughly planned specifically to the client’s wishes. A clear concept and feel of the space, allowed me to be confident in selection the furnishings with the help of Jillissa in aesthetics.

CONCEPT Jillissa style could be described as: mid century modern meets small town farmhouse with accenting traditional elements. In order to successfully achieve her desired aesthetic, inspirational images were selected to discuss her thoughts. Initial selections include light oak flooring, neutral and black details, greenery and fun patterns. The primary goal of this project is to design a space for the Moorman family to pursue their every day lives, as comfortably and enjoyable as possible. The Moorman children will each have unique bedrooms tailored to their personalities and hobbies.

ZONING Function Together Alone

Preliminary planning included the seperation of zones. It is important to have areas to be alone, as well as spaces that are great for gathering as a family. In addition, there are functional zones for everyday tasks, such as laundry and restrooms.

FORMAL ENTRY The Moorman family wanted to provide a formal entrance for guests to arrive. The space includes double doors with windows on either sides, a console table and statement chandelier. Selecting an area rug was important to ground the space, keep the floor clean, and incorporate pattern.

FORMAL DINING To create a space for the Moorman family to gather and spend time together was important. Glass french pocket doors lead into the formal dining room from the formal entry, as well as the main hallway. Incorporating UP

iconic Hans Wagner pieces was important for Jillissa to result in a timeless look. Double windows allow natural light into the space.

LIVING ROOM The living room is the heart of the home, especially for a family of six. It is important UP

to accomodate for the entire family to be comfortable, as well as room for possibly guests. As a formal living room, we discussed selecting less casual furnishings for holidays and hosting. A custom fireplace and millwork was designed to display decor and add comfort to the space.

EAT - IN KITCHEN Preliminary designing of the kitchen involved discussing layouts that were most functional for the Moorman family. The final layout includes two full walls of cabinetry and appliances, as well as an island that UP

seats their entire family of six. Additionally, a breakfast nook was designed for more seating options.
