31 publishers note Hello and welcome to the 45th edition of PakMag. This month we’ve been planning lots of great events for you and your family including a massive Easter Egg Hunt on the Esplanade on April 2 where you can also win tickets for a special preview screening of the new animated blockbuster, HOP. This month we also wanted to highlight and pay tribute to the hard work of single parents. We think you deserve a break so we’ve organised a special PakParent party on April 7 for single parents to come along and meet other single parents. This is a great opportunity to get out of the house and have a social life! See page 3 for more info. And, of course, we have our usual PakClub family event on March 13 - come dressed in green because we’ll be celebrating St Paddy’s Day with lots of Irish fun.

09 Money & Work

This year has kicked off well in our household. Our New Year’s resolution was to have a family holiday every year, so we have just got back from 3 weeks in the USA. We had a great time, and even though travelling is exceptionally challenging with a nearly 2 year old, we managed and it was worth it. Next adventure - full on toilet training.

It is a perfectly natural instinct to watch over your babies to ensure they don’t come to harm in a world they don’t quite yet understand. Potts, one half of the Sea FM morning crew, continues his chronicles of first time fatherhood Our thoughts this month are with the families who lost everything in Cardwell, Mission Beach and Tully areas after Cyclone Yasi. I must admit it was pretty scary when the category 5 cyclone was heading straight for us. We packed up our home at Forrest Gardens and headed for the Sea FM studios. There were 30 odd people there and about 6 kids so Noah had a great time. He slept through the worst part of the cyclone. It must have been very distressing for other parents with their kids in evacuation centres or in their homes trying to keep kids entertained and worrying about the roof coming off. Noah is starting to learn how to get our attention by standing up, clenching his fists and screaming at the top of his lungs. We’ve been told to ignore him when he does this otherwise he’ll do it all the time but there’s only so many times you can ignore it. The worst is when you’re carrying him and he screams in your ear. Now I know why people lose their hearing, it’s not due to old age, its due to having kids. He’s also started throwing himself on to the ground when he doesn’t get what he wants. He dives forward landing on his knees then falls onto his stomach. I hope this doesn’t mean he’s going to play soccer. We’ve also decided to put his transition in to a bed on the backburner. We tried taking the rails off the side of his cot but after we had to keep putting him back to bed we decided to put the rails back on and try at a later date. We’re thinking he should grow out of this by the time he turns 18…

Time for a break jokes

Don’t Flush

There once was a blind man who decided to visit Texas. When he arrived on the plane, he felt the seats and said, “Wow, these seats are big!” The person next to him answered, “Everything is big in Texas.” When he finally arrived in Texas, he decided to visit a bar. Upon arriving in the bar, he ordered a beer and got a mug placed between his hands. He exclaimed, “Wow these mugs are big!” The bartender replied, “Everything is big in Texas.”

After a couple of beers, the blind man asked the bartender where the bathroom was located. The bartender replied, “Second door to the right.” The blind man headed for the bathroom, but accidentally tripped over and skipped the second door. Instead, he entered the third door, which lead to the swimming pool and fell into the pool by accident. Scared to death, the blind man started shouting, “Don’t flush, don’t flush!”
