Hello and welcome to PakMag’s first ever magazine dedicated to Maternity and Baby. Having a baby is such a special time and there is always plenty to read up on. I was blessed last month to be with one of my friends as she delivered her first baby - it was an amazing experience and a real eye opener to be a birthing partner. It gave me a new perspective of what my husband went through and how amazing women are. I would like to dedicate this edition to Clare: an amazing lady, teacher and mother of two young boys that lost her battle with Leukaemia last year. Please support the World’s Greatest Shave this month as it raises money for the Leukaemia Foundation. Check out www.worldsgreatestshave.com.au to find out more. We also have our Easter Events this month. I can’t wait to see the Easter outfits and your kids’ faces when we bring out the Easter Bunny and give them lots of chocolate! Until next time, have a fantastic month, and don’t forget to tell everyone, you read it in PakMag.

Stylish Wear
FOR A STYLISH MUM-TO-BE
Congratulations! You have just found out you are pregnant and already you feel like your clothes are not fitting you. You sit down in your favourite pair of jeans and feel like you are being cut in half. Being comfortable and stylish is an important part of feeling great during your pregnancy, so how do you get the best value and style from your maternity wardrobe? For most women there are two stages of buying - firstly when you are newly pregnant and things are starting to get a bit tight and uncomfortable. Then secondly, when you have come into your last trimester you realise how much your size and shape has changed due to your growing bump. With the first stage of buying it is about purchasing key pieces. Just as you have with your prepregnancy wardrobe, look for key pieces which you can wear multiple times per week if needed. If you are

working invest in a good quality pair of maternity work pants or skirts. Specialist maternity labels use high quality fabrics and most styles will include an adjustable waistband to help see you through your pregnancy, giving you the best value for money in the long run. Look for a maternity store which offers free maternity styling sessions. Don’t be afraid to try different things on – you can be pleasantly surprised how your bump can change your style. As you enter the last trimester, reality hits as to how much your body has changed due to your growing baby and pieces you bought early on may not quite be suitable for much longer. This is the time to start looking at tops and dresses which are also suitable for breastfeeding as these pieces will cover you for the remaining weeks of your pregnancy and for the first few months when baby arrives and you are still getting back to your pre-baby body. It is important when looking for tops for breastfeeding that you feel comfortable and that they don’t
interfere with your baby getting good attachment to the breast. Wearing tops which are awkward to lift up not only make getting your baby to attach more difficult, they also tend to expose your ‘mummy tummy’ which can make you feel even more selfconscious when out in public. All this adds to unnecessary stress which babies can pick up on. Breastfeeding singlets are a fantastic inventio, and are a must have in your hospital bag as they make learning to breastfeed and night feeding less stressful. They can be worn as daywear at home, for sleeping or layered under a t-shirt. At this stage usually three to four tops, three breastfeeding singlets and a dress will cover you for the last trimester and into the breastfeeding stage. You will wear these pieces multiple times a week for around six months so purchase quality items that you know will stand the time. PLANNING FOR PARENTHOOD PRE-CONCEPTION HEALTH
When used in conjunction with conventional medicine, acupuncture has been shown to increase fertility by reducing stress, increasing blood flow to the reproductive organs and balancing the endocrine system. Visit your GP for a checkup and ensure you are up to date with your immunisations and have had a recent pap smear. Mackay GP Superclinic offers extended opening hours, including weekend care in a convenient location at 1 Old Eimeo Road. Visit them online at www.gp.mackaygpsuperclinic.com.au Give up smoking. Quitline provides a free, confidential and individually tailored service to assist you in the process of quitting smoking. You can access this telephone service by calling 13 7848 (13 QUIT) from anywhere in Australia. Begin taking folate and prenatal vitamins. Start at least a month before you're planning to get pregnant to lower the chances of certain birth defects.
IVF
If you have not been able to get pregnant after trying for 1 year (or 6 months if you are over 35) you should speak with your doctor about fertility help. Assisted fertility services are not available through the public health system. There are a number of private clinics across Queensland - speak with your doctor for a referral. As a private health service you will be responsible for the cost of your treatment, however you may be able to claim some of the cost back through Medicare orprivate health insurance.
FINANCE/LEGAL Private Health and Obstetric services If you want to be covered for obstetrics (pregnancy and birth related services) in a private hospital and with a private obstetrician, you need to take out private hospital cover or upgrade your existing policy well before you’re pregnant. All health funds have a 12 month waiting period for obstetric services and they’re usually very strict in applying this rule. This means you need to have held the appropriate level of private health cover for at least 12 months before you’re admitted to hospital. In order to cover your baby from birth, without waiting periods, you must check that your hospital policy will cover dependent children as well as yourself. A single hospital policy covers you – but it won’t cover your baby. It’s important to ensure your baby is covered from birth in case he or she requires hospital care immediately. This could occur in cases of premature birth where a baby is admitted to a Special Care Nursery or Intensive Care Unit. This type of admission is very costly and can rise into the tens of thousands of dollars. Every fund has different rules about covering newborn babies. Check with your health fund as early as you can about which rules apply to you. Parental leave entitlements: Employees can get parental leave when a child is born or adopted. Parental leave entitlements include: • maternity leave • paternity and partner leave • adoption leave • special maternity leave • a safe job and no safe job leave • a right to return to old job.
The Paid Parental Leave scheme provides Financial support for up to 18 weeks to help eligible parents take time off work to care for a newborn or recently adopted child. This is separate to any leave entitlements offered by your employer. If you’re unsure about what you may be entitled to, talk to your Human Resources department or contact Centrelink.
DAYCARE
It may seem a long way off when you are first planning on pregnancy but consider your options regarding daycare, especially if you plan on returning to the workforce after giving birth. Competition for positions can be tough and many people don’t realise how expensive care can be so it’s a great idea to plan ahead. A website to check for vacancies and rates in your area is www.careforkids.com.au Birralee Child Care Association Incorporated offers a fully air conditioned Centre providing all meals daily (morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and late snack). While the thought might make you shudder, you need to choose a guardian so the courts don't do it for you if the worst should happen. START WELL-FINISH WELL STORY Dr Craig Murison
It seems at the start of every year students and parents make decisions to do things differently, in ways intended to improve school results at the end of the semester or year. Students will decide to start writing more neatly in their exercise books, to listen more in class, to do their homework more diligently (and more often) and to get started on assignments earlier and not leave them to the last minute. Parents will establish a well-lit, quiet area, free from distractions, make rules about television viewing, begin the year checking homework and reviewing due dates for assignments and ask more regularly for feedback about how things are going.
Like many of the similar New Year's resolutions, these improvements often start
with good intentions and then slowly, or quickly in some cases, disappear - and things return to the way they have always been.
Sometimes this is just because it is hard to change habits. Maybe ‘life’ just gets in the way. Sometimes it is because the initial conflicts these changes can create become just too difficult and it is easier to let it go.
It takes time to establish habits and it takes time to change habits once they are established. But it is always worth the effort.
The best thing parents can do is to consistently remain interested in what their
children are doing at school. Ask to see their exercise books. If they don't bring them home ask them to bring them home so you can see what work they are
doing. Many schools have Assessment Calendars available online these days.
If yours doesn't, ask the school to email you a copy of any assignment due dates as they come up. With the due dates for work it is easier for you to stay on top of where your child's work is at.
Have a look at homework sheets and work. Encourage your children in their efforts. Read with them, to them, and in front of them often.
As children get older parents seem to attend parent teacher meetings less frequently. Even if you feel you know where your child is at, go to as many of
these meetings as are available to you. It sends such a powerful message to your children that you are genuinely interested in their school education. It is great to start the school year well - it is better to also finish it well.

HYPNOBIRTH Long time PakMag readers may recall that our Publisher Bree utilised hypnobirthing for the birth of her second son Sean, back in 2011. Recently she had the opportunity to act as a birth partner for one of her good friends who also utilised the technique. STORY Carly Hammersley Many expectant mums may have heard the term ‘hypnobirthing’ in passing but been hesitant to look into the concept more closely. The philosophy of hypnobirthing is that childbirth is a normal, healthy function that can be accomplished naturally, gently and safely. “When I undertook my hypnobirthing course prior to Sean’s birth I learned more about the actual process of childbirth as well as relaxation techniques and how to work with my body rather than against it.” “My first labour was traumatic - I had to be induced because I was two weeks overdue and then it all turned into a blur of immense pain and medical intervention. IV drips, epidural, episiotomy and a suction cap for baby left me feeling utterly exhausted and I felt like a failure.” Bree says when she discovered she was expecting a second child she immediately knew she wanted to have a more empowering experience of labour. Her research led her to discover hypnobirthing after also preparing herself physically though acupuncture, chiropractic and pilates. “I really didn’t know what hypnobirthing was but by doing the course I learned why I had the birthing experience I had the first time and how to make it different. Rather than approaching
this birth with fear and trepidation, these classes made me feel confident and positive that I could have a good birth. And I needed to believe that was possible.” Natural birth is not a new concept. Throughout history women have birthed naturally without the use of anaesthesia or many of the interventions that are common today.
Studies have shown that hypnosis and self-hypnosis during childbirth may lead to: • decreased average length of labour • lower caesarean section rates • decreased use of pain relief medication such as gas and epidurals • increased ease and comfort of labour and birth (self-reported and observed) • emotional satisfaction of having their birthing partners informed, involved and supportive. In addition to this, the majority of women experiencing hypnosis during childbirth in their second or subsequent births reported feeling more in control, confident, relaxed and focused, and less fearful, than during their other birthing experiences.
her quick labour. “It was her first baby and she totally rocked it, she did so well. I would definitely recommend hypnobirthing to all mums who want to be in control of their birth experience.”
WHAT IS HYPNOBIRTHING? • It is a philosophy and an approach to birthing. • It is understanding the physiology of natural undisturbed birth. • It is about how our mind affects our body in childbirth. • It is learning techniques to deeply relax. • It is about how to manage the sensations of labour. • It is about how your partner can support you. • It is about a gentle experience for mum, dad and baby.
Bree says her friend, who was having her first child, had to be induced and found hypnobirthing very beneficial in

LOVE YOUR GUTS! STORY Simone Kay If you’re a new mum, your abdominals, your pelvic floor, your whole body has been through a lot of new stuff. To get back to where you started (in terms of your physical self) you are going to need a new approach. What worked for your non-pregnant body, will almost certainly not work for your post natal one.

HEALTH MARCH
Step one is simple, and oh so hard. Look down at your belly and love that thing! It has nurtured and grown your baby, it has been the incubator for life. If it doesn’t look quite right now, that’s ok, love it anyway. Step two - bravely go where you have not gone before. Consider and then embrace the idea that your core is more than your pelvic floor and transverse abdominus and integrating core into your movement and activities of daily living will be very beneficial. To strengthen your functional core start by eliminating the stuff that’s counterintuitive. No sit ups, no crunches, no planks. Every pregnant woman experiences a mild diastasis (separation of the linea alba) during pregnancy. Most will recover swiftly, some will take longer, and some may require the intervention of a physiotherapist or surgeon. The diastasis, regardless of the level, is made worse by the action of forward flexion - crunching the abdominals. Planks put pressure through shoulders and hips. Especially when the abdominals are weakened - so don’t do those either.
TRY THIS INSTEAD. 1. Rolling: The first ‘big’ movement your baby makes is to roll. Rolling creates awareness right through the body, and integrates the deep stabilisers and superficial abdominal muscles. Rolling is the foundation for all movement, and after periods of being sedentary or limited in movement, it can be a lot more challenging that you expect. It usually takes a baby about 12 - 16 weeks to get this right!! (Head to YouTube and look for Rolling Feldenkrais to get a bit of an idea of what it’s all about). 2. Crawling: Crawling patterns are fundamental to good movement. Strengthening shoulders by exerting force through the arms as they contact the ground, and co-ordinating the cross functional front and back lines of connective tissue in the body with alternating hand and foot patterns does great things for strengthening and integrating your core in movement. At the same time it enhances coordination and reaction skills. Rolling and crawling is something most of us need to relearn in our adult lives. In my eight years of working with new mums, and not so new mums, the effects of rolling patterns on gait and posture are instant and positive. Start slow and small and let your body dictate the rate of progress. Seek the advice of professionals that can help you identify any dysfunctional movement patterns, and then practice, like your baby does, so that you get it, you get it well, and it feels great.
STAYING HEALTHY THROUGH PREGNANCY STORY Dr John McIntosh In the nine months of pregnancy, your body goes through the most incredible changes and creation of a new human being. Keeping healthy during this time is very important for both of you. The first thing to consider is that pregnancy is not an illness but one of life’s normal stages – so you need to keep active and involved in life with only a few changes. Because your growing baby needs quality nutrition, you should be eating well – as always you need plenty of fresh fruit, vegies, protein, with extra calcium being needed from milk and dairy products. How much weight should you gain? The good news is that for once in your life, those few extra kilos aren't cause for concern. If you were underweight to start with, you might need to gain a few more kilos than the average mumto-be. But if you were heavier before your pregnancy, you'll probably need to keep your weight gain in check. Being overweight or gaining too much can lead to complications such as high blood pressure, gestational diabetes, birth defects or having a big baby. The average weight gain for a woman with a normal BMI is around 12.5kg.
Simone is a movement coach with a specialty in postnatal movement and fitness coaching and created Mumbalates to meet the exercise needs of all new mothers during the first six months of motherhood and beyond.
If you are physically well there is no problem keeping fully active and maintaining your usual exercise regime right up until your belly is so big that you can’t actually do the activity. Giving birth requires a lot of endurance - it will probably be the biggest physical test of your life - so staying fit and healthy will make that process much easier.
*The advice in this article is of a general nature and every individual will have different needs. Always consult your doctor before commencing any post natal exercise program.
Stay happy, positive and enjoy your time as you create a miracle!
Most of all though, love your tummy and the strength you can draw from it. Being a new mum is one of the most wonderful experiences we can have and a big part of that is getting to know the amazing new person that you have created.

MACKAY BIRTH CENTRE Having a baby is one of the most exciting times in a woman’s life, yet when preparing for the experience, the expectant mother will be bombarded with information. Much of it is well-meaning but can easily become overwhelming for the expecting family. At the Mackay Birth Centre the four dedicated, caring midwives provide personal support. It is a real benefit to have someone you know and trust by your side for support and guidance throughout your birth. ARTICLE Friends of the Mackay Birth Centre Committee PHOTOS Karen Day - Mackay Birth Photography NEW MUM SOPHIE BONANNO SHARED HER REASONS FOR CHOOSING THE MACKAY BIRTH CENTRE: “I remember the day my youngest brother Joseph was born at the Mackay Birth Centre. I was nine years old and remember thinking how much nicer it was than visiting the hospital where my other siblings were born. Eighteen years later when I found out I was pregnant, the first thing I did was call the Mackay Birth Centre and book myself in. Having a good relationship with my
midwife and a comfortable homelike environment really helped create calm, relaxing setting for the birth of my baby. Choosing the Mackay Birth Centre was the best decision I made and many other Mackay mums who made that choice will tell you the same thing." The Mackay Birth Centre was established over 20 years ago and is the oldest birth centre in Queensland. It is located in a separate building on the grounds of the Mackay Base Hospital and close to medical
assistance if needed. The Centre invites all new and expecting families to join the Friends of the Mackay Birth Centre for monthly morning tea events on the last Friday of every month at the Women’s Centre, 418 Shakespeare Street from 9.30-11.30am. Expecting mums can give the midwives a call for any questions or to book a tour on 4885 6933. Visit and “Like” the Facebook page at www.facebook.com/ FriendsMackayBirthCentre for support and to stay connected.
WHY CHOOSE THE BIRTH CENTRE? • Minimum intervention • A calm relaxed, home-like environment • Continuity of care by one primary midwife and one back-up midwife • Natural pain relief such as water immersion, massage and movement • Mothers and Fathers are actively involved in the decision-making and encouraged to be in control of their own birth • Family-centred care where support partners and family are welcome during the birth of your child • Post-natal care and follow-up is provided in the mother’s own home

PARENTS RETREAT If you’ve visited a display home or flicked through an architectural design magazine lately, you may have noticed a new trend that seems to be taking the interior design world by storm. STORY Carly Hammersley Just as open plan kitchens revolutionised the way we live a couple of decades ago, allowing mum (or whoever spends more time in the kitchen) to stay connected with all members of the household. the parents’ retreat is set to save marriages everywhere! Okay, maybe its powers are not quite that spectacular, but with lives getting busier all the time, the need to maximise time with our loved ones is at an all-time high. The parents’ retreat replaces the humble ensuite and separate robe and provides a resort-style feel in your very own home.

“These walk-through spaces allow a couple to share a space, allowing greater interaction during the key parts of their day. It’s a space where a couple can share intimate space, a space where they unwind, get ready for the day ahead, sleep and also bathe. BLES R

“The space is effectively three rooms cleverly connected as one. It can have the potential to close down into individual spaces or be open like we are used to at our favourite resorts, where the doors are mostly always open and those sharing the space always feel as if they are connected.”
pakmag
The trend leans towards visible baths - often freestanding - and in close proximity to the bed, allowing parents to chat, unwind or start their day while both going about required tasks. The toilet remains tucked away and private. The walk-in-robe may still be popular among builders but the architectural trend is now towards a more integrated storage solution, with a wall of floor-to-ceiling cabinetry replacing the walk-in as an option. This actually requires less floor space than a walk-in-robe and is a great option when planning a new build. If space permits, the parents’ retreat can even incorporate a separate sitting or living area which can be utilised as an alternative wind down space after the kids have gone off to bed. This is a great option if you are able to separate the parents’ retreat from other bedrooms in the home as it allows parents to have their own ‘wing’ in the home and offers additional privacy - a word many parents do not get to use often! Colour trends for the parents’ retreat keep the resort feel close at hand, with neutrals and soft monochromes prominent. The paredback Scandinavian-style continues to be highly popular and in North Queensland, elegant tropical style can also be incorporated through the use of wooden bed frames, neutral paint colours, soft, flowing fabrics, bright artworks and rugs. Unfortunately, the biggest downside of the parents’ retreat is the limitations it puts on existing homeowners. It is very difficult to adapt a home which does not already have an open-plan feel, however if you are considering renovations, removing some walls and rejigging the layout of a master bedroom and surrounding space should be within the realms of experience of an experienced architect, draftperson or builder. If achieving a parents’ retreat does indeed prove to be within your reach, the real challenge could then become getting the motivation to ever leave!

BABY BUNTING
Have you started nesting? Are you collecting your metaphorical twigs – the cot, change table and pram – or perhaps diligently cleaning your home in anticipation of the pending arrival? Whatever this primal instinct drives you to do, preparing a nursery with some decorative touches is nesting put to good use. STORY Sofie Buchholz A baby’s first room is a unique opportunity to add a new touch of decorative styling to your home. Large changes such as a new paint scheme and the addition of nursery specific furniture can be further enhanced by adding smaller decorative touches such as wall art and soft furnishings. A popular DIY trend for nurseries is bunting. It is a great way to add instant texture and colour to the room while also helping to tie together chosen colours and themes.
SEWN BUNTING On a light piece of card, create a template for the bunting flag. This example measures 20cm wide x 20cm long.
down the two sides of the flag, leaving the top of the flag open.
a decorative edge to each flag but will help prevent the fabric from fraying.
Using the opening at the top, turn the flag through so the right side is facing out. Use a chopstick or pencil to help push out the point of the flag. Iron.
Using craft or hot glue, sandwich each flag between the two sides of a folder length of ribbon. Consider doing this in a two-step process. Firstly, glue the top of each flag to the bottom half of the ribbon. When dry, fold the ribbon over the top of your flag edge and glue down. This will give a neater finish.
To join the flags together, sew them inside a length of folded ribbon so that the top edge of each flag is sandwiched between the two sides of the folded ribbon. As an alternative to ribbon, sew together narrow strips of fabric to form a fabric ribbon. Pin the flags in place along the ribbon before sewing together to check the order of colours and the finished length of bunting. Leave a 20cm tail at each end of the bunting to help tie in place.
On your chosen fabrics, trace around your cardboard template and cut out the number of flags needed for your bunting. Each sewn flag requires a front and back to be joined, therefore one flag requires the template to be drawn around twice.
“NO SEW” BUNTING
Match the right side of two flags together and sew, using a machine,
Consider cutting your bunting using pinking shears, this will not only give
Follow steps 1 and 2 for the ‘sewn bunting’. However, as each flag is not being sewn together, you will only need half the quantity of flags, therefore one flag only requires the template to be drawn around once.
NOTE: How many flags you will need
to cut out will depend on the desired length of your finished bunting. Determine this by working out how many flags you need for one metre of bunting. The amount will depend on the top width of your bunting flag and the amount of space you leave between each flag when lined up together. As a rough guide, if your flag measures 20cm along the top and you have decided to leave no gap between each flag you will need 5 finished flags for one metre of bunting. For sewn bunting you will therefore need to cut out 10 individual flags as each flag has a front and back.

TANDEM BENEFITS
Bike riding is an excellent activity to boost your mind and body – and it’s a wonderful life skill to teach your kids. There’s nothing quite like the fun of exploring the world on two wheels! It’s also a fantastic activity to do together as a family, here’s our top four reasons why: 1. Quality time Biking gives you the chance to explore the region and do something interactive together. Sharing a fun experience is the perfect way to strengthen your family bond, and your kids will love Mum and Dad getting involved in something that they enjoy so much.
2. Great exercise You may already know that biking burns major calories – but did you know about the other physical health benefits, especially for kids? While strengthening your heart, lungs and leg muscles – cycling is also a great way for both young and old to develop better balance and improve their overall fitness level.
3. Outdoors lifestyle Especially through autumn and winter, Mackay offers the perfect weather to get out and enjoy our beautiful region. As clear skies and invigorating temperatures become part of our normal days, riding is an excellent option for staying active during the cooler months.
4. Street and safety smart Cycling together gives you an extra opportunity to teach your kids safety and observance when out and about. Whether it’s walking or riding along
pathways or on the roadside, it’s never too early for kids to start learning about road safety and being alert to what’s happening around them.
Time to try it out! Whether you haven’t been on a bike since school or you and/or your family are experienced cyclists, you might be interested in the new community rides starting up this month. The rides are free to join and are a great opportunity to increase your family’s cycling confidence and meet new people. The aim of the rides is to provide a safe, inclusive environment for people to enjoy the outdoors and be physically active. On the last Sunday of each month, each ride will have a leader and the routes will be no longer than 15km along paths and quiet streets. Plus every attendee at the first ride on March 29 will receive a free coffee or cold drink voucher! All ages and abilities are welcome and there are also limited adult bikes that can be borrowed from the coordinators, at no charge, if you want to “try before you buy”. Helmets must be worn by every rider and children under 12 years of age must ride with a parent/carer. Bookings for the rides are taken up until the Thursday before each ride, with registration opening at 7.15am
on that Sunday morning. The ride will then start at 8am sharp, and return by 10am. The rides planned so far are:
Sun, March 29: Gooseponds Start/Finish: Car park at the top of Willis Street, North Mackay (Remember - free coffee or cold drink voucher for each participant at this ride!)
Sun, April 26: Bluewater Trail East
Start/Finish: Bluewater Quay, Brisbane Street end, Mackay

WELLSPRING
pakmag
POSITIONING FOR A HEALTHY BIRTH During the pregnancy and birth of our first son, like most expectant parents, I had some very rigid ideas of how things were going to happen for my family. I was a man with a plan! Our birth plan had iron clad details of who was on our birth team, how the environment would be, pain management and monitoring preferences, positions for first stage, lighting, crowning, delivery, cord clamping, skin to skin contact, the list goes on. Professionally, as a Chiropractor and having had some years of experience in helping expecting mums, I had my own expectations around how labour would be. STORY Dr Paul Shanahan, Chiropractor They say babies are born exactly how they need to be born. Needless to say, our great plan gave way to how our son needed to be born and I am very grateful to the team of skilled professionals who helped birth our boy. Speaking with many parents I care for at Wellspring Chiropractic, a common lesson learned from the first birth is that being flexible with how the birth is visualised allows us to progress along its natural route, as distinct from clinging rigidly to an idealistic pathway. Too many times, we beat ourselves up over not being able to control every last detail and perhaps even miss out on the experience that it can be. Positioning ourselves and our babies for a healthy birth involves listening to your support team but also verbalising your hopes and concerns for your birthing to them and those close to you. How can people support us unless they know what it is we are striving toward or away from?
There are some key points to consider in positioning ourselves for a healthy birth. Reduce stress early. The importance of this cannot be overstated. Exercise, fresh organic food, a prebaby holiday, asking for help and accepting help when it is offered are ways we can prevent stress from taking over in the first place. When sitting, ensure your hips are higher than your knees. Whenever you are sitting, your pelvis is usually tipped backwards. This encourages the back of your baby's head and spine to turn around and put pressure on your spine, making it very uncomfortable (Andrews and Andrews 2004). You can reduce the chances of a posterior position by choosing chairs that rock your pelvis forward. Check your seats/chairs to ensure they are not making your hips go down and your knees come up. If it does, try turning the chair around and lean forward over the back of the chair or use a birth ball.
Crawl. In the last few weeks, crawl on your hands and knees. This allows your baby to find the best position in utero and may assist in keeping your pelvis balanced. I recommend 15 minutes of crawling twice per day. If crawling is too uncomfortable it is still beneficial to get onto your hands and knees. Have your spine & pelvis checked. Chiropractic care is a gentle way to help reduce the physical stress acting on your changing body. A balanced pelvis gives your baby the space needed to grow and develop in the best possible position for a healthy birth. There is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment on pregnant women that can be used called the Webster technique. The goal of the adjustment is to reduce the effects of sacral subluxation/ SI joint dysfunction. In so doing neuro-biomechanical function in the pelvis is improved. Correct positioning of the baby in-utero affects birth outcome and decreases the potential for undue stress to the baby's developing spine and nerve system.

RECIPE IDEAS
CAULIFLOWER CRUST SPINACH WHITE PIZZA INGREDIENTS CAULIFLOWER CRUST 1 small head cauliflower, cut into small florets (should yield 3 cups of cauliflower rice) 1 free-range organic egg, lightly beaten ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese ½ teaspoon fine grain sea salt ½ teaspoon dried oregano ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper TOPPING ¾ cup shredded mozzarella cheese ½ cup cooked spinach ¼ cup grated Pecorino Romano cheese Handful sun-dried tomatoes, chopped
INSTRUCTIONS 1) Preheat oven to 220°C. Place a rack in middle. 2) Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and liberally grease with olive oil. Set aside. 3) In a food processor rice the cauliflower florets. 4) Transfer cauliflower rice to a microwave-safe dish and microwave on high for 8 minutes, until cooked. 5) Place the cauliflower rice in a tea towel and twist it to squeeze as much moisture as you can. This is very important. The cauliflower rice needs to be dry, otherwise you’ll end up with mushy dough. 6) Transfer the cauliflower rice to a mixing bowl, add egg, mozzarella, oregano, salt and pepper and mix well. 7) Using your hands, press the mixture onto the baking sheet and shape into a thin pizza “disc”. 8) Bake for 15 minutes, until golden. Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes. 9) Scatter mozzarella cheese evenly over the pizza base and spread the spinach over this. Sprinkle the Pecorino Romano and add a pinch salt. Return to the oven and bake for further for 10 minutes.
