THE 2ND ANNUAL ART PALM BEACH SHOW T H E I N T E R N AT I O N A L C O N T E M P O R A R Y A N D M O D E R N A R T FA I R O F T H E A M E R I C A S

Art Palm Beach takes center stage for its highly anticipated return at the Palm Beach County Convention Center for its second edition. As the premiere destination for conventions, trade shows, meetings and social events, the Convention Center is the perfect venue for our show. Palm Beach has been the winter home of America’s elite industrialists and Wall Street icons since the early 20th century. Now home to many of New York’s leading blue-chip galleries and international auction houses, Palm Beach has become Florida’s collector “must-see” gallery district during the winter season. As the internationally renowned premiere mid-winter contemporary art fair in The Palm Beaches along Florida’s coastline, the show will provide an opportunity for collectors to explore and acquire the best of a broad selection of global contemporary and modern art in the vibrant cultural hub of South Florida. With over 100,000 square feet of exhibition space dedicated to some of the most prestigious contemporary, established and emerging art galleries from the U.S. and around the world, Art Palm Beach will provide an exceptional platform for gallery representation, and a dynamic cultural art event, in The Palm Beaches.

WELCOME MESSAGES

Keith A. James Mayor

Dear Guests, On behalf of the City of West Palm Beach, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Art Palm Beach, the international contemporary and modern art fair of the Americas. Art Palm Beach is internationally renown as the premiere mid-winter contemporary art fair in The Palm Beaches along Florida’s coastline by both art critics and enthusiasts. The fair taps into the booming market of Palm Beach, one of the world’s most culturally sophisticated and affluent cities, during the peak winter season. Featuring some of the most prestigious contemporary, emerging, and modern art galleries, the show will provide a new entrée for collectors to explore and acquire the best of a broad selection of global contemporary and modern art in the vibrant cultural hub of South Florida. Geared to benefit from the current real estate boom, proximity to Miami and wealth of the Tri-County Area, Art Palm Beach 2024 will focus on presenting international modern and contemporary galleries featuring work by notable emerging artists as well as top names from the contemporary, modern, classical modern, post-war, and pop eras. In addition to enjoying the amazing collection of art, I invite you to explore the many other treasures our City has to offer, including our spectacular downtown waterfront, our shopping districts, cultural amenities and historic neighbourhoods. Visitors to this show will find that West Palm Beach is well known for its natural beauty, its rich diversity and cultural heritage, and its art. Last but not least, be sure to visit our website at www.wpb.org to find out more about our City and our free events.

PALM BEACH SHOW GROUP Dear Friends, It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the second edition of Art Palm Beach, the first and most important art event of the season. As organizers, each year now and into the future we will strive to exceed the prior year’s offering of wonderful modern and contemporary art offerings. We travel the globe to the finest art shows worldwide, in addition to frequenting the most important shows in our nation. As a result, it is our pleasure to present an international array of unique and highly esteemed exhibitors, brought together in one spectacular event. A show of this enormous breadth and depth presents challenges from inception through presentation and requires the coordinated efforts of a vast number of people. It is a true team effort that requires seamless production from our hard working office team to our technical and creative personnel, in order to bring this event to life. We would like to express our gratitude by congratulating everyone involved in making Art Palm Beach a success. Of equal importance, we would like to give a special thanks to the exhibitors who travel here so that we may enjoy spectacular works of art, sculptures and timeless treasures. To each participant, we offer our appreciation and gratitude. To our visitors and collectors, we extend our warmest welcome and invite you to take advantage of this cultural experience and the opportunity to meet many of the world’s most renowned and respected dealers today. We are pleased to welcome you to Art Palm Beach in 2024 and beyond.

Sincerely,

Scott Diament President/CEO Palm Beach Show Group

Welcome to Art Palm Beach 2024! I am delighted to present the 2nd edition of Art Palm Beach to kick off the winter art season this year in West Palm Beach. Building on the massive success of last year’s inaugural show, Art Palm Beach is returning to Palm Beach County with a bigger and even more highly curated show. As the internationally renowned premiere mid-winter contemporary art fair in The Palm Beaches along Florida’s coastline, the show will provide an opportunity for collectors to explore and acquire the best of a broad selection of global contemporary and modern art in the vibrant cultural hub of South Florida. Last year, we created a new and completely revamped Art Palm Beach. This year, we are adding new international galleries, a totally new theme, and a new charity partner. After its anticipated debut last year, our special community engagement platform comprising a prominent rotating section of museums, art institutions and non profits, DIVERSEartPB, will return with a new focus and direction. Curated by veteran DIVERSEartLA curator Marisa Caichiolo, the platform continues its mission to engage communities both locally and globally by connecting thought leaders and key figures within the art world to generate innovative ideas and drive social change through art. For 2024, we are proud to support the lifesaving mission of the American Heart Association. We are excited for this collaboration, and especially happy to support th e A ss oc i at i on thro ug h the Life is Why™ c amp aign as it celebrates it s 100th birthday. The American Heart Association is a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives through its commitment to help prevent death and disability from the nation’s leading health threats — heart disease and stroke. Last but not least, I would like to thank everyone who has helped make this show possible. Words cannot express my heartfelt appreciation for the support of all the exhibitors who are taking this amazing journey with us. I am also equally grateful to every member of our Art Palm Beach team, for the dedication, passion and hard work so integral to our continued success. Enjoy the show!

DIVERSEartPB is a special programming section devoted to nurturing the creative energy of international collectors, artists, curators, museums and non-profits by connecting them directly with audiences in West Palm Beach. Art Palm Beach donates exhibition space to participating organizations each year as our civic engagement, and the featured work is not for sale. DIVERSEartPB is curated by Marisa Caichiolo with individual curators from institutions around the world.

Through a range of media and approaches, the edition in 2024 will encourage visitors to explore the complex and evolving relationship between memory, humanity, and AI. Memory is a fundamental aspect of human experience, shaping our individual and collective identities and informing our understanding of the world around us. As we enter an era of rapid technological change and increasing reliance on artificial intelligence (AI), it is important to consider the role that AI can play in shaping our memory and our sense of humanity. DIVERSEartPB will explore the intersection of memory, humanity, and AI through a range of artistic and technological perspectives. Through installations, interactive experiences, and thought-provoking artworks, visitors will be challenged to consider the ways in which AI is changing our relationship to memory and shaping our understanding of what it means to be human. From AI-generated artworks to immersive virtual reality experiences that challenge our sense of self, the works in this edition invite us to consider the opportunities and challenges presented by AI and memory. What does it mean to remember in an age of digital memory? How can AI be used to enhance our memory and our understanding of the world? And what are the ethical and social implications of relying on AI as a tool for memory and identity? DIVERSEartPB is curated by Marisa Caichiolo, DIVERSEartLA Curator.

DIVERSEartPB Museum Acquisition Award:

DIVERSEartPB 2024 is proud to announce the inaugural edition of the Museum Acquisition Award for Emerging Artists in Palm Beach. Inspired by Spain’s La Neomudéjar Museum to mark its 10th anniversary last year in Los Angeles, the initiative seeks to support the art scene by promoting the acquisition of art works by leading national and international museums. The winner of the award will be chosen by Néstor Prieto and Francisco Brieves, Co-Directors of La Neomudéjar Museum, as well as Marisa Caichiolo, Curator of DIVERSEartLA. The award will be presented by Prieto, Brieves, Caichiolo and LA Art Show Director Kassandra Voyagis in a closing ceremony at the fair.

MUSEUM AI

MUSEUM AI is an Artistic Research that uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to re-image and re-create lost pieces of Art. The recreation of the collection of 57 lost paintings from Palencia Museum has been the selected collection for this project. This collection disappeared and was largely forgotten and condemned to oblivion until now. MUSEUM AI helps us understand where we come from if we want to achieve appreciation and respect for art, since only knowledge leads to recognition of our memory and cultural heritage. MUSEUM AI wants to rescue from oblivion the story of a forgotten heritage by proposing an exhibition on lost works of art. And also respond to the question: What would it be like if a machine intelligence, a computer, re-mastered these paintings using learning processes after a rigorous historical study on the available data? MUSEUM AI is a new collection reborn with the intention of updating, making visible, exchanging and, if possible, transcending the artistic event with a vision of the 21st century. And as in the Computer itself, let this be a continuous sequence in the learning process. A collective and innovative project, that puts in Memory an AI images collection that comes from History and dialogues with contemporary times, shaping images that in the 21st century are based on heterogeneous intelligences and multidisciplinary learning. It is about recognizing that culture is now and increasingly an action shared by millions of people who collectively seek to meet their past to build the future in different ways of expression; that culture is the wealth of people who defend their identity and memory, who try to reinvent themselves in a globalized, multicultural and diverse world. MUSEUM AI has been supported by the Ministry of Culture of Spain and recently received the EXPONE Award for the best national exhibition 2023.

Myths are constructed to express realities beyond logical understanding and to help us comprehend concepts that are difficult to explain with ordinary language. Carlos Castro’s work is situated precisely where contemporary society is confronted with a mirror but is hesitant to open its eyes. By employing the ancient medieval technique of tapestry and utilizing an iconography that connects the ancient and the contemporary, he intricately weaves a new understanding of our recent history within the context of a hyper-communicated, transcultural, hybrid, and meaning-hungry society. In the midst of complexity, it becomes necessary to turn to myth in order to approach our existence in a symbolic and cohesive manner, using a resource that enriches the imagination and emotion required to assimilate the succession of moments that will eventually become history.

Each Castro tapestry is a journey through time, not only through chronological time, but also through the transposition of characters, places, forms of representation, canons, and values. This creates a spiral that enables us to visually and conceptually navigate between a past-present, a future-past, and a continuous, indeterminate present, all seasoned with the ineffable irony necessary for digestion. His work is an invitation to create or recreate our own myths—the kind that allow us to transcend experience and redefine the culture and social significance that is implicit within it.”

The immersive installation “Be Water” presents a visual narrative that delves into the multifaceted dimensions of water in nature and human life. Antuan’s creation of the Human Net, a human geometric structure visible in each sculptural piece, symbolizes the symmetry of the universe, elemental purity, and omnipresent wisdom. The characters within the installation represent the unity of humanity in the face of the urgent need to address the global water crisis, highlighting the essential collaboration between humanity and AI to create a new network of human consciousness. This interconnectedness is crucial in working collectively to tackle the challenges posed by the water crisis and establish a new order for the planet. The installation places a particular emphasis on the intrinsic memory of water and explores how AI can effectively convey the significance of this vital element to humanity. This exploration seamlessly integrates art, science, space, metaphysics, energy, and the compassionate stewardship of our planet. By captivating audiences, “Be Water” aims to inspire a reconsideration of our relationship with water, shedding light on its potential to heal and sustain us through its memory. The “Be Water” installation represents a significant milestone in the ongoing art-science research led by the esteemed contemporary artist, Antuan. Building upon the success of the acclaimed project, “The Other Dimension,” which was showcased in an exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Miami, FL in 2017, “Be Water” continues to push the boundaries of artistic expression and scientific exploration.

This exhibition focuses on the innovative studio practices of artists Gregory Scott and Kim Keever. Gregory assembles cast-filled productions for his videos complete with sets, props, and actors, including himself; whereas Kim manipulates dye and pigment interactions in large water tanks to reveal dramatic abstractions.

Kim Keever graduated in Thermal Engineering and was employed with NASA before devoting his career completely to art in the 1970’s. His cloud-like abstractions have evolved from romantic landscapes to become his signature imagery. With the aid of a 200-gallon tank and an affinity for his previous vocation in the sciences, Kim pours paint into water to capture swirling forms with his large-format digital camera, and he prints these striking and colorful results in large scale.

Gregory Scott’s images have always challenged the relationship between photography and painting, but in 2008, while working towards his graduate degree in studio art at Indiana University, he incorporated video, combining the three mediums and unveiling a new format to present narrative surprise. He addresses significant themes like identity and loss using humorous depictions of art history in museum and gallery settings. There is always at least one hand-painted element within the photographic framing that echoes the content of the video windows.

Gregory Scott was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1957. His work has been extensively exhibited and published internationally and acquired by notable permanent collections like the Columbus Museum of Art, OH; The Chazen Museum of Art, WI; The Norton Museum of Art, FL and the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago, IL.

Kim Keever was born in NYC in 1955. Kim’s photography is in numerous public and private collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Museum of Modern Art, New York and the Brooklyn Museum of Art, NY. Ray Waterhouse has successfully represented Kim since 2013, hosting shows in his New York and London galleries and at art fairs throughout the United States and Europe, placing Kim’s work in many collections in the U.S. South America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Australia.

Most recently, Kim’s collaboration with Dutch fashion designer Iris van Herpen can be viewed in an exhibition at The Musée des Arts Décoratifs at the Louvre, Paris until April 28, 2024.

The Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery will debut an outstanding new body of work by Madrid-based painter, Nikoleta Sekulovic, at the upcoming edition of Art Palm Beach. Previously recognised for her muted palette and economy of line in describing the nude female form, these new works establish clothed subjects in richly decorated contexts and elegant period dress. Sekulovic’s imaginative surfaces engage with the notion of identity in a profound and symbolic way. Each piece is an act of homage to a poet, painter or philosopher; from the Victorian mathematician, Countess Ada Lovelace, to the New Zealand suffragette, Kate Sheppard. At Art Palm Beach, the Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery will unveil Sekulovic’s first ever male subject: the esteemed British writer and author of Howard’s End (1910) and A Room with a View (1908), E.M. Forster. The artist’s paintings are imbued with a sense of contemporary craftsmanship that recalls Pre-Raphaelite design philosophy. The iconic legacy of Victorian artist, poet and social activist, William Morris, is a pertinent fount of inspiration. Through her artful transcription of Morris’s original floral designs, and through her inscription of carefully-selected verses of poetry on to the back of her canvases, she celebrates – and connects with – the moral and intellectual ideals of her subjects, whilst binding them to her own distinctive vision. Nikoleta Sekulovic is an internationally acclaimed painter. Her work has been shown extensively across Europe, the US and Asia, including three solo exhibitions at the Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery in London. Her work is held in numerous private collections across the globe.

Ethan Cohen is pleased to present Dialogos by HRH Prince Nikolaos, curated by Marilena Koutsoukou and Ethan Cohen, in a special exhibition for Art Palm Beach. Dialogos showcases a fusion of ethereal photographs and luminous marble. The artist digitally imprints abstract and elemental images directly onto marble inviting the onlooker to inhabit the evanescent zone between the solid and the visionary. Through the artist’s uniquely crafted technique of digital transference, we swim in his native Greek dimensions of statuary, sand, sea, and light in a frozen wave of eternal time. Key pieces of the show are landscape images on white marble, three tables and a cabinet, where the white marbles of Thassos are combined with a sculpted bronze patinated base. HRH Prince Nikolaos is fascinated by the grace of light found in Greek nature, something which he constantly seeks to recreate.

Reflecting on memories of growing up in the Rio Grande Valley along the TexasMexico border, Dallas-based fiber artist Sarita Westrup translates border culture sensibilities into her practice of experimental weaving. Westrup’s basketry mimics corporeal forms: at times her work is fully open and materially transparent while at other times closed off to the surrounding environment. Balancing secrecy and openness, the artist’s woven structures recall connections between plants, animals, and other living things. Referencing the imposing walls and fences along the border of South Texas, her work imagines migratory bodies in abstract forms; by crafting fenced patterns and enclosed structures, she creates channels and passageways out of impermeable places. In doing so, Westrup creates a dynamic visual language of and for the borderlands. As she crossed the border into Mexico, Westrup saw agave plants, rocks smoothed by the Rio Grande, and the raw concrete of immigration checkpoints. These childhood memories surface within the artist’s chosen media of metal, mortar, reed, and Tampico fibers. Traditional North and Central American processes are also employed with cochineal, a vibrant dye derived from crushed cochineal insects. The use of baskets – a domestic tool meant for transporting and cradling – conveys tenderness and concepts of home. Sarita Westrup is a craft-based artist and art educator of mixed Mexican descent. Westrup received her MFA in Fibers from the University of North Texas in 2016. Her work has been shown in Dallas-Fort Worth, North Carolina, and Illinois. She currently lives and works in Dallas, Texas.
