THE 28TH ANNUAL LA ART SHOW

THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE INTERNATIONAL CONTEMPORARY ART SHOW IN AMERICA

Los Angeles has emerged as a global epicenter of art & culture, with a distinct, interwoven multi-cultural influence unique to the city. Diversity is our strength and art is most impactful when it includes or transcends all borders. As LA rises as the world-class destination for art, the LA Art Show continues to lead the way with innovative programming and one-of-a-kind experiences for an expanding collecting audience.

LA Art Show is the unparalleled international art experience with over 120 galleries, museums, and non-profit arts organizations from around the world exhibiting painting, sculpture, works on paper, installation, photography, design, video and performance. All works presented by galleries are available for your purchasing pleasure.

More than 180,000 square feet of exhibition space is committed to today’s prominent galleries. These domestic and international galleries, beyond their booths, curate special exhibits that are at the forefront of the burgeoning contemporary art movement. The fair offers an extraordinary array of works and experiences in specialized sections.

Whether you are a seasoned collector or merely an admirer of the arts, we are certain that the LA Art Show will provide you with a special experience in the world of Modern and Contemporary Art. We have created the most diverse art show in the world.

We strive towards making the LA Art Show a premiere international arts destination, in the likes of Art Basel, Frieze, and The Armory Show.

Art has always been at the forefront of society, bravely going where others feared to tread, whether it was the use of color, texture, composition or materials, artists have always pushed the envelope.

It takes a discerning eye and measure of courage to embrace and appreciate the new and the different and today’s collectors are a brave and appreciative crowd.

A show of this magnitude requires coordinated efforts from a myriad of people, and I wish to thank my entire team, especially Kassandra Voyagis, whose dedication and hard work made this show possible. I am grateful to all our new participants and to the many great galleries that return each year who travel here so that we may enjoy their spectacular works of art.

The LA Art Show is proud to serve as a vehicle for today’s galleries to showcase their artists. Our guests are provided the opportunity to enjoy a unique assortment of creative expression from all corners of the globe.

I am proud to welcome you to the 28th edition of the LA Art Show and to celebrate the fertile efforts of the human mind.

Enjoy the Show!

Welcome to LA Art Show 2023!

For our 28th edition, we return with a sold out show supported by some of our long-time exhibitors while welcoming many more who are new to our show. Equally exciting is the expansion of our modern and contemporary franchise which now includes our new sister show, Art Palm Beach, in Florida. We had a very successful inaugural edition this January, and I congratulate our dedicated LA Art Show team who worked so passionately to produce an exceptional show that created tremendous media buzz and wowed the art community. It was an entirely new market for us, and I was quite thrilled at how warmly we were welcomed, and how well our exhibitors did in terms of art sales.

Now, just weeks later, we have produced yet another sterling edition of the LA Art Show without missing a beat. It was a demanding schedule and my team rose to the occasion.

I would like to thank everyone who has helped make this possible. Words cannot adequately express my heartfelt appreciation for the support of all the exhibitors in the show, many having to make tremendous financial and personal sacrifices to participate. Yet, we have all come together with a common spirit as we welcome more than 120 exhibiting galleries and museums from North and South America, Asia and Europe.

Our show has always been about community and inclusivity, and we strive to be a force for all that is progressive and positive. As the most comprehensive art fair on the West Coast, we have always presented one of the most diverse and engaging programs in the world.

In my expanded role as Director and Producer of LA Art Show and Art Palm Beach, I anticipate new possibilities for the shows. There is so much we can offer our exhibitors now that we have a presence on both coasts. While the future looks very bright, I take nothing for granted. I remain grateful to every member of our LA Art Show team, working tirelessly and graciously under pressure. Their optimism for what is possible, and their faith in my leadership, continue to be an inspiration. I am happy to share the culmination of our collective hard work

Enjoy the show!

ART SHOW Gallerist Talks Presented by Citi LA Art Show Gallerists Talks Presented by Citi is produced, curated and hosted by Consuelo Eckhardt of CeConsulting in partnership with MaryLinda Moss of Source Art
LA

Citi is the official bank sponsor of the 2023 LA Art Show and host of the LA Art Show Gallerist Talks Presented by Citi. The Gallerist Talks were launched as a program to support a variety of galleries from the US and abroad, and provide them with increased access to new audiences, art lovers, and collectors.

We invite you to join us in the Citi space on the LA Art Show Floor to engage in live conversations featuring art dealers with diverse and wonderfully storied backgrounds. Our 2023 lineup includes Bruce Lurie of Bruce Lurie Galleries from the westside of Los Angeles, California; Bernard Markowicz and Paul Dahman of Markowicz Fine Art in Laguna Niguel, CA, Dallas, TX and Miami Beach, FL; Chris Davies and Stephanie Cummings of Fabrik Projects in Los Angeles, and Yann Bombard, owner of K+Y Contemporary in Paris, France.

These gallerists and selected artists they work with will share stories on how they became involved in art, the challenges and opportunities they have faced in their business, and the most rewarding parts of pursuing their passion. These inspiring conversations will also explore the impact of art on society and will reveal what these professionals believe about the place of their own work in the world at large.

The curated Citi space on the LA Art Show floor will also exhibit a curated collection of artworks from the four featured galleries, extending their physical presence in the show to provide collectors and attendees with new perspectives on the art displayed.

LA ART SHOW Gallerist Talks

Presented by Citi

Bruce Lurie Gallery, Pacific Palisades, CA, Park City, UT

Bruce Lurie Gallery was established in the early 1980s in New York’s East Village. In 1989 Bruce moved to the then little-known neighborhood of Chelsea and opened the first gallery to exist in an area that is now famous for its galleries. After the tragic events of 9/11, Bruce decided to move his operations to the west coast of the US to Beverly Hills, relocated to the Los Angeles Culver City Arts District, and is now in Pacific Palisades, CA.

Bruce Lurie has always set the trends. He was the first to show works from Jean-Michel Basquiat in the US, and was an early adopter of Keith Haring, Andy Warhol and other start-up artists of the high-rolling art world of the early 80s. The gallery continues its particular focus on establishing emerging to mid-career artists while specializing in cutting-edge pop art, street art, abstract minimalism, photography, and a wide range of monumental sculptors. Bruce Lurie Gallery also advises clients on acquiring and selling secondary market art collections.

This Gallerist Talk will share highlights of Bruce’s career and will feature in-person conversations with artists Monica Perez, Michael Kalish, Mattias Gunneras (a creator from the collective Breakfast), and commentary from gallery Director Lan Guan.

K + Y Contemporary Art, Paris, France

K+Y is an art gallery created in 2011, and is dedicated to a contemporary focus that represents emerging and established international artists. The gallery is based in Paris, at the heart of the ‘Triangle d’Or’, close to the Champs-Elysées. The K+Y program embraces artworks across all media, including paintings, sculptures, and photography.

Since its inception, the gallery has presented solo exhibits, launched several eclectic group shows, and participates in more than 10 art fairs annually, exposing its artists to an international audience. Many of their artists have been selected for international Biennales or have had artworks acquired by prestigious private and public collections.

K+Y gallery’s vision is to sustain the artists’ freedom of expression by exhibiting them in settings that are fertile for both the artist and the collector alike. To that end, the owner Yann Bombard has created Envie d’Art, the first French online gallery to showcase less established artists globally.

This Gallerist Talk will focus on Bombard’s experiences traveling internationally to support and connect with his artists and will include an in-depth discussion of the gallery’s works in the curated Citi space.

Markowicz Fine Art, Miami, Dallas and Laguna Niguel, CA

Located in the heart of Miami, in the Dallas Design District, and now in Laguna Niguel, CA, Markowicz Fine Art has become a premier destination for visitors and art collectors alike, from all over the world.

Since 2010, Markowicz Fine Art has showcased an array of established international artists such as Andy Warhol, Tom Wesselman, Carole Feuerman, and Fernando Botero. Additionally, emerging artists with exceptional creative talent such as Idan Zareski, L’Atlas, Leo & Steph, Lyès-Olivier Sidhoum, and progressive street artist Kaï have become staples in his stable. Markowicz is also the exclusive agent to French artist, Alain Godon, showcasing works that represent his innovative Bildoreliefo technique.

In this Gallerist Talk we will converse with French-born owner Bernard Markowicz who began collecting at the age of 16 and has had a lifelong love affair with art. He especially appreciates art in which the artist has gone beyond their comfort zone and uses new materials and techniques. We will ask him to expound on this appreciation and to speak about his interest in the joy that art generates in people. We will also speak with Cristina Armisen, who represents her sister Eva. She will share insights into Eva’s artistic career and success as a Spanish painter in South Korea.

DIVERSEartLA is a special programming section devoted to nurturing the creative energy of international collectors, artists, curators, museums and non-profits by connecting them directly with audiences in Los Angeles. The LA Art Show donates 50,000 square feet of exhibition space to participating organizations each year as our civic engagement, and the featured work is not for sale. Overall curation by Marisa Caichiolo with individual curators from institutions around the world.

“One of the most powerful things about art is that it brings people together, and transforms the way we communicate. The goal of DIVERSEartLA 2023 is to view this sector of art within the show through ecological glasses. To take a closer look at how the environment is represented in art installations and objects, and also, how humans’ place in the world is depicted in saving the planet and documenting change in our environment

(Past – Present – Future).

This topic is at the heart of a growing number of art narratives, including exhibitions built with high-tech innovations, designed to inspire artistic appreciation and the desire to respond to environmental challenges - reinforcing the value of translating environmental advocacy into art.

The installations, immersive experiences, and performances represent our present day and the looming impact we will all face if the planet continues to warm. DIVERSEartLA 2023 will encourage visitors to confront the complex challenges of our global climate crisis and imagine potential solutions.”

DIVERSEartLA is back with a new ecological lens. Curated by Marisa Caichiolo, this year’s edition will examine not just how the environment is represented in art, but how humanity’s place in the world is depicted. This exhibition will open up an important dialogue about the Earth’s past, present, and future, uniting the community around discussions of the global climate crisis and potential solutions. This topic is already at the heart of a growing number of art narratives and DIVERSEartLA is honored to provide it with an additional platform. For this year’s edition of the highly popular element of the LA Art Show, the curator decided to invite art museums and institutions to partner with Science and Environmental Museums. Together, they will create an entire world of immersive experiences focusing on the looming impact we will all face if the planet continues to warm.

ARTIST : ALFREDO DE STEFANO

“THE PULSE OF SILENCE”

Video and Sound Installation

Using desert images from Chile’s Atacama, Egypt’s Sahara, Iceland’s Black, India’s Thar, Peru’s Nazca, Marrueco’s Sahara, Mexico’s Sonora-Arizona and Chihuahuense, Mongolia’s Gobi, Namibia’s Namibia as well as USA’s White Sands, the artist seeks to create an immersive experience by unifying the vastness and silence present across these lands.

Silence feels like a pulse, but it’s a different pulse in each desert. Sometimes it’s a very loud pulse, Alfredo De Stefano explains.

De Stefano is one of Mexico’s most prominent contemporary conceptual photographers. His body of work includes images of desert landscapes that address the natural environment’s elemental significance and our relationship to the land. Often employing ice, fire, and light, De Stefano creates enigmatic installations with both natural and man-made objects in ethereal desert settings.

De Stefano was born in the city of Monclova (Coahuila), located in the desert in Northeastern Mexico. His work has been exhibited internationally, including solo exhibitions at The Recoleta Cultural Center in Buenos Aires, Argentina, 2012; Fourth International Biennial of Photography, Amsterdam, Netherlands, 2010; International Biennial of Guangzhou, Museum of Art, Guangzhou, China, 2009 and the Museum of Art Carrillo Gil, Mexico City, Mexico, 2008. De Stefano’s monographs include In This Place, 2008, Brief Chronicles of Light, 2007 and Replenishing Emptiness, 2002. Among the institutions that have collected De Stefano’s work are The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Texas; Centro de la Imagen, Mexico City, Mexico; Museo del Barrio, New York, NY; and the FEMSA Collection, Monterrey, Mexico.

Video produced with the support of the Italian Cultural Institute in Los Angeles

CURATED BY FABIAN GONCALVEZ BORREGA AMA | ART MUSEUM OF THE AMERICAS OF THE ORGANIZATION OF AMERICAN STATES | WASHINGTON D.C.

ARTIST: PIETRO RUFFO IN COLLABORATION WITH NORUWEI (NORUWEI)

“IL GIARDINO PLANETARIO THE PLANETARY GARDEN”

The title is inspired by French philosopher Gilles Clement. This video installation is an allegory of the planet as a garden.

Ecological finiteness makes the limits of the biosphere appear as a closed space embracing all life.

In line with the title of DIVERSEartLA, diversity in this work refers to the number of distinct living species among animals, plants and simple beings (bacteria, viruses, etc.) that currently exist in only one species: humans. Contained in this one specie’s DNA is the diverse history of other species that have inhabited this planet before us and have left their traces not only in our DNA, but also in our cultural environment and the landscape that surrounds us.

The work is presented as an analysis of the landscape that brings to light the changing character of what seems “naturally” present: from the expanse of water in a tropical forest emerges a memory of the mountainous reliefs that previously covered this place, the sparse trees of the savannah, the grass of the bovine pastures in the Alps... An organized whole, according to the possibilities offered by the survey, the exposures, the accesses and what our gaze can embrace from a peak.

The alternation of different climates has turned the environment into a carpet woven with dark and rough shapes: the forests; alternating with light surfaces, the grass that furrows the landscape animates it with curved perspectives re-launched by a gentle and deep relief. The balance of shadows and lights is driven by a dynamic whose evolutionary process one can only guess, one in which we appeared last minute, one that made us extremely complex.

Presented in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute (IIC) in Los Angeles

The Italian Cultural Institute of Los Angeles is an overseas office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation dedicated to the promotion of Italian culture in the United States. The main activities of the IIC include the organization and support of events, exhibitions and festivals, the development of academic exchange programs, and the promotion of the Italian language.

“SENSE OF SPACE PROJECT”

Petra Eiko’s installation immerses the viewer in a sensorial experience through six 3D sculptures and a video installation. Her work fosters a conversation on the significance of water –for both individuals and humans collectively–, as well as its impact on the future of our planet. Her work raises awareness of climate change by highlighting the fragile state of water on Earth. She explores the changes and challenges we face today, which come as the result of our endless exploitation of water supplies and natural resources, and the continued impact the industrial world has had on humans and the environment.

With the support of the German Consulate General in Los Angeles, this sample was developed within the framework of the art initiative Wurzeln und Fluegel eV., whose mission is to promote extraordinary art and cultural projects and to support outstanding artists.

The organization, located at Schloss Reuschenberg in Neuss (Germany), was founded in 2004, inspired by a quote of German poet Goethe: “There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children. One of these is roots, the other, wings”. Undoubtedly, we all need deep roots to develop a firm foundation and strength. Wings we need to let our dreams and creativity fly. ARTIST : CARMEN ISASI

Carmen Isasi has worked on the UNINHABITED project since 2019. During this time, not only has the immigration crisis worsened, but developed countries have also tightened their policies to stop the immigration flow into their territories.

With new, tougher immigration policies in place, immigrants have lost all hope to find a place they can call home as they embark on a dangerous, life-threatening sea journey to reach European shores.

Isasi’s project features the clothes worn by immigrants on their way to Europe. Their clothes symbolize the many struggles they have faced before and during their journey: They are a testament to their lives, personal stories and country of origin.

From a critical standpoint, this proposal acts as a bridge connecting human drama to the rest of us.

“WHEN GOD WAS A WOMAN”

1980-2021

Judith F Baca, in contemplation of Merlin Stone’s When God Was A Woman –an exploration of ancient worship of the female Goddess and the subsequent suppression of women’s rites–, developed a workshop process to source ideas, record dreams, and construct imagery and content emblematic of females. As a double-sided triptych, Thirteen Women in the Volcanic Eruption and The Birth of the Vision of the Heart was brought to completion in 2021, as Baca advanced these paradigms.

Thirteen Women in the Volcanic Eruption incorporates the young women who participated in the workshop into the painting, who simultaneously represent Latina and Chicana women –and all women. Their naked bodies are shown standing in the fiery lava of the volcano, displaying the palms of their hands, and in the center –the heart–, synonymous with life. All the figures emerge from the fertility of the volcano’s ashes in a fertile paradise, like a phoenix that rises from its ashes ready for a grand ceremony.

The Birth of the Vision of the Heart is a continuation of this story: the great ceremony of a ritual, a goddess possessing vital energy, Mother Earth. She stands with her hands extending into large flowering branches, her rhizomatic feet extend into deep roots, and throughout her body, blood spreads in venous threads that connect her corporeal mass with an earthly paradise and the originating source of life; a fertile pond with the most ancient forms of life.

ARTIST : DAVIS BIRKS

“RENDEZVOUS: ESTA TIERRA ES MI TIERRA”

The moment of our appointment arrived. We are where we had feared and predicted. Through a video installation, Davis Birks offers us the possibility to activate a conversation in which we can review the past, the present and the future. It is a reflection on the environment and our impact on it. That would be a first reading.

It is observed how an organic arrangement (that of a river) is replaced by one of geometric and artificial order. This happens as the audience comes into contact with the piece. The curves and the apparent disorder in which the small stones of a river are placed and the capricious shapes with which the water flows will be replaced by a Tartan pattern. The artist chose to use this particular pattern as a reference and homage to his Scottish ancestry. The crisscrossing lines could be the axes of a GPS grid, or the interwoven linear trace of the urbanizations in which we live and that is “natural” to us. This could be a second reading.

Birks confronts us with Nature observed through a surveillance camera lens. That is why he chose black and white for the video. Nature distant and supervised, we are supervised. We = Nature. We have almost forgotten the latter. The conquest of natural territory has caused not only an impact on the environment; it has also had consequences on its original inhabitants and has led among other things, to their displacement. This could be a third reading.

These sensitive themes, or others, emerge from a narrative, apparently simple, that unfolds many layers of interpretation. What would your reading be?

“REACTIVE ELEMENTS”

Reactive Elements is an art installation dealing with the fragility our natural resources and the chain-like reactions human activities have set off on planet Earth. Through the use of a voile, –a suspended piece of fabric– and by projecting images onto it, the artist unveils an ugly reality, while providing visitors with the opportunity to come face-to-face with our own individual footprint and the cumulative impact of anthropogenic activities on our environment.

The projected images are divided into four sets to represent the different elements we, as humans, actively affect: air, water, earth and fire. The universal nature of the images appeals to viewers’ sense of belonging, pushing them towards the realization we have all collectively played role in this tragic destruction and deterioration of the planet, while the volatility of the fabric dancing in the wind serves as a poignant metaphor to the fact that, due to no one else’s doing but our own, life on Earth hangs by a thread.

“ETERNAL LIGHT 21C THE LAST JUDGMENT”

Inspired by Michelangelo’s masterpiece, The Last Judgment, artist Han Ho’s Eternal light - 21c The Last Judgment addresses epic physical and metaphysical issues. The nine-part massive multi-media panel work re-imagines and recontextualizes an apocalyptic, end of the world scenario to the 21st century —constructing an afterimage of humankind facing environmental disaster, colonization, gender violence and nuclear annihilation.

Using traditional art techniques combined with technology, HanHo creates multicolored light-infused immersive worlds that shift and ebb in front of your eye. Nearly all the figures depicted in the work are the artist himself —performance, history, war, future, and fantasy, all blend together in this massive panorama of humanity. “Eternal Light,” as the artist calls it, bathes his canvases and elevates his worlds to near mystical proportions.

Will this eternal light uplift humanity from the ecological disasters swiftly approaching? Will we have the ability as species to avoid our own destruction? Who will judge us, finally? These questions under-gird HanHo’s “Last Judgment” and create a space for us to contemplate them and our future. -Ara Oshagan

“DONDE VOY”

The artist is focused on how to express the objects that he sees, interpreted with different perspectives, by trying to recreate the meaning of the things scattered around him. Jin Hyu Lee enjoys experimenting, using different methods, such as splitting the space in canvas, attempting to escape from the ordinary views, searching for new dimensions of objects around him.

His works are blended sentiment derived from the mixture of conventional painting and digitized culture that has become the fact of life, with historical and ethnic traces.  He finds a new way of painting, which is based on the classical way of thought.

“EXPLORATION IN LINE AND LIGHT”

English artist Philip Vaughan first became interested in neon and light art while at Chelsea Art School in London, during a course on the theory of light and color. He was intrigued when he learned that paint mixes differently than light does, as well as by the idea of using light as a medium itself to make art. Combining this with his love of sculpture and installation, he began experimenting with all three.

While at Chelsea art school, he created a piece where three incandescent light sources spun and projected colored light on the walls, mixing the light’s colors as they spun and combined. Later he read a book by Cornwall Klein, who was experimenting with light projection and synesthesia.

Around this time, Vaughan attended a lecture given by Buckminster Fuller and shortly after that started to experiment with geodesic structures himself. He made a group of models of them and eventually started to incorporate linear lights. This work culminated in a sculpture for the Hayward Gallery on London’s Southbank, the Neon Tower whose neon lights would dim and change according to the speed and direction of the wind, reflecting its environment. After building the sculpture for the Hayward Gallery Neon Tower, he also built an 80-foot diameter hemispherical inflatable dome theater with projected light shows for entrepreneur and filmmaker John Bloomfield.

Since moving to the United States, he worked for a while at Walt Disney

Imagineering where he continued to learn about lighting, theatrics, computer controls and construction. Vaughan has continued to create art and experiment with neon, sculpture, and architecture as art and technology alike evolve. He continues to plan and build public sculptures, using light and other media.

“LAUNCH INTENTION”

Griffin Loop is a sculpture artist who creates large scale installations that have been commissioned and collected in both private and public settings across the United States. Griffin uses his platform as an artist to engage communities and youth.

“Launch Intention” is based around the symbol of a paper airplane and is used to support individuals and groups in the act of setting intention, sharing with the greater collective and launching into action. The artist has installed and programmed large scale “paper” airplanes in communities and schools across the United States.

A paper airplane represents youthful innocence and fun. It is one of the first things we create as children and launch into the world. The launch intention project based around this childhood symbol takes us back to that carefree imagination and freedom. It stands for tapping into the intuitive self and truth we all have. Embracing the dreams and path we are ultimately supposed to take. A platform to solidify these dreams and share with each other and the world. A symbol for optimism and hope. Self. Community. Support. Vulnerability and accountability. Launch Intention is a reminder for all to free yourself. Set intention and launch into action and the world.

“RAINTYPE”

This immersive installation, by Lorenzo Marini, is inspired by a rainy day. Only here the drops of rain never fall, but remain suspended in a linguistic universe waiting to be discovered. Letters only become such when joined with other letters and take the form of the word. They acquire meaning in their linear composition. In this work of art, the letters never touch land, but remain in the world of ideas, of the possible, of the potential. They are in no hurry to touch the ground, they are in no hurry to become a word, a sentence, a discourse. They love the freedom of space and the suspension of time. They aspire to become fragments of eternity.

“SEARCHING IN NO MAN’S LAND”

Julio Vaquero (Barcelona 1958) has developed his work as a painter around the world of culture, knowledge and his confrontation with the experience of time.

His large-format paintings and installations have been shown in different exhibitions on realism, such as “Realism in Catalonia”, Barcelona 2000; “Mimesis et inventio”, Panorama Museum, Bad Frankenhausen, Germany 2002; “Visions of Reality”, Caja Canarias Foundation, Tenerife Spain 2014.

Also in 2014, Vaquero presented his work “The End of Appearances” at the “Centre d’Art Santa Mónica” in Barcelona, a large installation created with solidified paint that confronted the experience of contemplating the past and the horror of time.

His latest personal exhibitions at the Marlborough Gallery in Barcelona and Madrid have shown his drawings on tracing paper in large format, where Vaquero works with materials created by himself, looking back at the history of painting “Stolen Museum” Barcelona 2018 and on the ambiguity of the realistic representation “Memories of the Physical World”; Madrid 2020.

On this occasion, Vaquero presents his latest gouaches in small format on the ambiguity of the idea of identity, creating digitally manipulated faces whose changing and brittle material quality seems to evoke the feeling of fragility of our existence.

“WINGS OF GRACE”

Wonsook is both a painter of magical, vivid landscapes, and a storyteller of the universality of human hardships. Her flowing images refuse to yield to eyecatching trends and instead engage her viewers through heartfelt stories.

Her quality lies in her strong personal style that carries both the pureness of a child’s touch and the expert craftsmanship of an experienced artist and colorist. Wonsook’s work instructs us to appreciate the joys of life and to persist in the face of difficulties.

Drawing from experiences as a Korean immigrant and embracing an introspective attitude, Wonsook has created a visual diary of her life that many people, regardless of their identities, can not only be immersed in but also relate to.

Awarded for the 50th anniversary of the United Nations, her work was made into stamps and contributed to the transformation of the University of Illinois into Kim Won-sook University. Her work is Magical Realism. Through her work, she represents Korean sensibility and presents us with an artistic fantasy that we must not lose.
