Macklowe Gallery has been known for nearly half a century as the destination for exceptional antique and estate jewelry, French Art Nouveau furniture and objects and the entire oeuvre of Louis Comfort Tiffany. The debut of “Macklowe Gallery Presents: The Jewelry of Neha Dani” represents the first-ever collaboration with a contemporary designer. Since 1971 when the gallery opened its doors, scholars, museum curators and collectors have sought Macklowe Gallery out to find the best each period has to offer. Our clients include the Metropolitan Museum of Art, MoMA and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Notable pieces of jewelry from our gallery have been acquired from the Museum of Fine Art Boston and the Newark Museum of Art.

Each of Neha Dani’s one of a kind masterpieces is created so that each link, each petal, leaf or branch is uniquely rendered, with no repetition in patterning or design. “If I do something that’s not exceptionally detailed,” says Dani, “I feel I’ve not done anything at all.” As an artist, she seeks to create pieces that go far beyond the celebration of love or special occasions, as her jewels are made to be occasions in themselves. Neha Dani has been prominently featured in Vogue, VO+, Women’s Wear Daily and The New York Times, as well as Women Jewelry Designers by Juliet Weir de la Rouchefoucauld, in which Dani appeared alongside the likes of Victoire de Castellane, Coco Chanel and Paloma Picasso.

We at Macklowe Gallery feel that

Dani’s oeuvre offers our clientele the rare opportunity for meaning ful,

early collecting of a jewelry artist whose work promises to soon enter

the canon of great, wearable beauty.

Now located at 445 Park Avenue, Macklowe Gallery has helped cement this new crossroads of 57th and Park Avenue as a destination for collectors of fine and rare items. Ms. Neha Dani debuted her initial body of work to international acclaim. As an artist, she creates one of a kind jeweled masterpieces born of wax, sculpted by hand, and brought to life with exceptional gemstones. Each piece is unique, striking a balance between bold scale and ultra-delicate design. Like other historical masters championed by Macklowe Gallery, Neha Dani’s work is designed with an expressed sensitivity to the natural world. Each of her jewels was created to be collected, worn and exalted. “Although she is a trained gemologist,” writes the New York Times, “[Neha Dani] might best be described as a cross between an alchemist and a painter.”

The Aialik Cuff by Neha Dani. (Shown In bottom Image) Named after the Alaska glacier that inspired its creation, the piece is executed in 18 karat white gold and studded with 861 diamonds. The cuff features 11 uniquely cut moonstones dynamically set in the landscape of the cuff so as to mimic the appearance of glacial fragments floating through arctic waters. Moonstone are “phenomenon gems whose appearance changes as light passes through them.

In this case, the glistening

blue in the slivers of moonstone evoke the awe Ms. Dani

experienced witnessing color and light reflect and refract through the Aialik glacier.

The Amarante Bangle by Neha Dani

The Amarante Bangle by Neha Dani. The 18 karat rose gold bracelet (Shown In Above Image) has 18 GIA certified Natural Fancy Vivid Intense Purplish Pink Diamonds with an approximate total weight of 4.02 carats, and is set with 11,611 Natural Pink Diamonds with an approximate total weight of 72.83 carats. The bangle, which appears to be a delicate stem with hundreds of uniquely rendered blossoming flowers, was created petal by petal, no two alike. The Tsunami Earrings by Neha Dani. The 18 karat white gold earrings' delicate tops, which center on a sizable round diamond, give way to a dramatic concentric swirl that captures the power and grace of a cresting big wave. The earrings belong to an aesthetic grouping of Neha Dani's work that interprets the appearance of a frothing arctic sea. Pristinely white and imbued with an energetic sense of movement, the earrings embody the restless power and beauty of a woman in motion.

The Tsunami Earrings by Neha Dani.

The Bi Color Parisa Earrings (Shown Above) by Neha Dani. The top of the earring is a small blue floret with a cabachon emerald center. The drop is comprised of two strands of 18 karat gold, one plated in green rhodium and one plated in blue rhodium, that dance around each other like seaweed caught in the center of a maelstrom. The artist strove, with these pieces, to create wearable treasures that show and celebrate the ever moving, ever changing, ever tangled but always color filled character that lives within us. These blue and green earrings are entirely encrusted with 583 round full cut and 40 rose cut diamonds, and accented with 534 sapphires and 425 tsavorites.

The artist describes these colorful rhodium plated pieces as being inspired by the under

sea world. Just as the calm or gently moving ocean's surface hides a colorful, tangled

and ever moving world beneath, so too can

a woman's polished exterior hide the colorful interior life she cherishes, explains Dani. 11 11

The Dancing Girl Earring by Neha Dani. (Shown Below) The earrings, which are done in 18k white gold and have 15.15 carats of VVS clarity E/F color diamonds, feature seven undulated concentric links of delicate openwork outlined by round brilliant diamonds. The full articulation of the earrings' joints allow the dynamically stacked pieces to spin and twirl around their setting, just as the skirt flares around the ankles of a dancing girl.

The artist explains that the imagined dancing figure that the earrings' design alludes to is dancing not for an audience, but entirely for herself, and hope to offer the wearer of this piece that sense of elation, joy and self celebration.

The Shiri Earring by Neha Dani,

the earring is comprised of three fully articulated links in 18 karat gold, whose highly detailed texturing,

delicately crinkled shape and gentle

curve give the impression of late fall leaves bent by a strong wind.

Each of the links is fully encrusted in varying hues of 20.15 carats of round full cut yellow diamonds.

Roger Dean, Trading Boundaries The Creative Process

Exploring Trends in Private Collectors, Collections and Museums

"Roger Dean continues to amaze, to furnish the creative world with his fantastic forms, his exquisite grasp of color, composition and the aptness of his creative inspiration – all those attributes that describe the classic parameters of genuine talent." - Syd Mead

An increasingly significant amount of our cultural heritage is now in private collections. Numbering in the tens of thousands in just the U.S., private collections span a great variety of objects reflecting the wide range of enthusiasts who collect them. In this lecture we will explore the art and collectibles market, who high net worth collectors are, what they collect and what motivates them, and some of the challenges they face.

"The artwork of Roger Dean has always amazed me – it spans the spectrum from mind-blowing to mind mellowing." - George Lucas Join one of the most influential artists of the past 100 years as he discusses the creative process and where ideas come from.

3:00PM Macklowe Gallery, Ben Macklowe Why collect? The lecture is aimed to address the needs, concerns, interests and processes of both novice and experienced collectors in the creation or growth of their collections. The informational talk covers how to translate a love, passion or interest into a collection, how to become an informed collector, how to use collections as social and networking tools, and, of course, the multitude of ways in which collecting enriches our lives. Young or entirely new collectors will find guidance, direction and encouragement, while more advanced collectors will be offered direction in reading their marketplace and optimizing their collection as a tool to enhance other arenas of their lives.

Appreciating Tiffany as Tiffany Appreciates

Art, Jewelry And Design. New Perspectives

Having followed the market for the work of Louis C. Tiffany and Tiffany Studios, Arlie Sulka has observed a continuing and growing interest among old and new collectors. Since the mid-1950’s when the late Mrs. Lillian Nassau almost single-handedly created the revival of interest in Tiffany Studios, the important works of Tiffany Studios have steadily appreciated as collectors have become increasingly sophisticated and as more detailed information about Tiffany Studios has been revealed by Tiffany scholars. During her talk, Ms. Sulka will make comparisons of prices when the objects were first offered for sale by Tiffany Studios with their presentday values, tracing their increases over the past 6 decades and describing how great Tiffany collections are being formed today.

The lecture will survey the status and correlations of contemporary jewelry and its new perspectives into art and design. It will present artworks of important masters in jewelry design, and it will discuss why jewelry is located nowadays at the epicenter of the high art.

2:00PM Kate Markert, Executive Director of Hillwood Estate, Museum & Gardens Marjorie Merriweather Post’s Spectacular Gems and Jewelry Collection

3:00PM Rocky Ruggiero, PH.D. Art History Professor and Italian Renaissance Expert

As the founder of the only company that offers jewelry-centric tours, it was natural for Karen Stone Talwar to identify Kate Merkert as a perfect key speaker at this year’s Palm Beach Jewelry Show. Ms. Merkert’s topic is exceptional: “Marjorie Merriweather Post’s Spectacular Gems and Jewelry Collection,” and she knows it better than anyone through her role as Executive Director of Hillwood Estate, Museum & Gardens – Post’s former residence in Washington DC.

Botticelli, Leonardo, Michelangelo and the Antique During the Renaissance, the importance of an art collection was not based on the quality and quantity of contemporary works that a collector possessed, but was instead based on ancient works, or antiques. Of course, those contemporary works were by artists of the caliber of Donatello, Botticelli, Leonardo and Raphael, just to name a few. This lecture will explore the relationship between ancient GrecoRoman art and the then contemporary Renaissance artists Botticelli, Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangelo; and how three distinct antiques - the Medici Venus, the Equestrian Statue of Marcus Aurelius, and the Laocoon - each became the inspiration for respective Renaissance masterpieces - the Birth of Venus, the never-realized Equestrian monument of Francesco Sforza, and the Sistine Chapel ceiling.

3:00PM Ron Cavalier, Cavalier Galleries A Tale of Sculpture A talk on the legacy of sculpture, from its early origins to the successful sculptors of today. One of the oldest forms of art, sculpture has retained a prominent role in society since its beginning, though the role is constantly evolving. 15
