Preamble of Master Djwhal Khul Those who know me will immediately understand that the purpose of this treatise is not to evoke curiosity, nor to encourage the comparison of those initiates who are found therein. In any case, I do not wish to impress, nor influence, whomsoever at all. I graciously accepted to write this primarily exploratory book, in order that the human consciousness opens itself to new perspectives, which will permit man to better understand and appreciate the complete complexity and intelligible immensity that inhabits us all. Earlier on, in my prior works written by my former amanuensis Alice A. Bailey, I delineated somewhat the fine points of the rays, as well as the Initiations in quite some detail, tarrying not more on their positive than on their negative aspects. At that time, Humanity showed little interest in seriously working on itself. As a consequence, I was constrained to temporarily forgo the transmission of my teachings. The waiting period, however, was beneficial, for the winds of change blew favourably over the West, whose vision is now opening up to a new era of spirituality. I am not making allusion here to the ‘New Age’ groups, but rather, to the individual Consciousness in each man, woman and child, which is presently awakening and expanding toward a greater knowledge, and therefore, coming near and nearer to his or her Divine nature. To those who so desire, the serious study of the influence of the rays offers, without contest, a whole new look at Man and throws a fresh perspective upon what exactly constitutes a human being and what qualities make him universal.
The Circle

In this book, I am bringing to light both the accurate Initiatory level as well as the Ray-structure of known contemporary personalities, in order to encourage a better understanding of their influence, or effect, upon the aggregate energy of the planet. Certainly, some among you will be veritably shocked, while others will show an honest-to-goodness surprise and even delight, vis-à-vis the degree of Initiation procured by a known individual in this life or in past ones. You will also discover that there are certain karmic connections that weave through and serve to splice certain lives, some of course, remaining rather kindred, while others solicit considerable changes. You will be better able to see the vast mosaic of life, which inevitably shows itself to be infinitely more complex than the average ‘New Age’ books purport everything to be. The simple, magical thought of easy transformation does not exist. The only real parameter that truly exists is the astute and maintained effort to acquire, life after life, a greater mastery of our self through the occult process of Initiation and the potent influence of the rays. Throughout my writings, I often make allusion to the term ‘Initiate’, in primary reference to the planetary point of view of the individual having reached the First Initiation. At this major turning point, the Soul itself ‘initiates’ the incarnated earthly vehicle to a whole new, revolutionary energy. However, the process of evolution is slow, so very slow, that it habitually takes a multitude of lives before the Soul can effect a serious impact upon the evolving Initiate. Therefore, you will not see within this volume, the study of an individual, male or female, found to be energetically inferior to that of the First Initiation¹. I wish to make the comment before completion of this preamble, that all the levels of Initiation must remain a self-disciplinary responsibility, which each individual so ‘Initiated’ must assume consciously. It may be

well to reiterate that this work was not written for the dubious purpose of comparison, but rather, for the enlightened goal of the world’s greater comprehension. After a comprehensive reading of this book, it is my earnest wish that you look upon yourself and life in a fresh new way… most especially regarding the esoteric subject of Initiations, which most people in the past have consistently misinterpreted to their own personally-biased advantage. The process of Initiation can now be correctly gauged and interpreted in the interest of the greater well-being and evolutionary benefit of every sentient being.

Beethoven, Ludwig van Given Name: Ludwig van Beethoven Nationality: German Place and Date of Birth: Bonn (Germany), December 17, 1770 Date of Death: Vienna (Austria), March 26, 1827 Profession: Composer and musician Master Djwhal K hul’s Commentary A remarkable man with a strong and dauntless Personality, Beethoven not only loved music, but was continually inhabited by it. Music was without a doubt his premier passion and he envisioned it as his whole life purpose. His Soul’s role was to channel a musical potency that would influence many generations to come, in order that people deepen and sensitize themselves to the reality of their inner self. By dint of his determination and strength of courage, Beethoven was able to woo from the high heavens a music that would not only deeply delight, but could make the trumpets of angels be heard in every dimension of the Universe. Had he lived in our modern era, it would have been impossible for him to round out, or complete his mission. The instruments of his era were much more adaptable to a form of musical expression which vibrates with an outpouring of naturally acoustic sounds, rather than electronic ones. His growing deafness allowed his inner ear to greatly refine itself, thereby according him the possibility to capture the mesmerizing beauty and utter harmony of sound from the subtle planes. This infirmity cut him off from the outside world and allowed him to hear what no other human being had perceived previously. Immersed in and riding upon great celestial waves, he often felt unable to transmit them exactly and correctly through his music; he, therefore, endured great hardships 45

of interpretation and great frustration. However, he was a Gandarva, a celestial musician who was sent into incarnation in order to help Humanity grow and evolve more rapidly. Born into a family that gave him the solid musical foundation needed for his specialized mission, he was consequently, divinely adumbrated, or celestially enveloped, by a Musical Entity which emanated from the higher spheres of this planet; we could even say from the seventh heaven of the seventh astral dimension, which would qualify him as an incarnated Gandarva in the eyes of those who can “see” and those who “know”. His life was distressingly difficult, which at that time period, was the common lot shared by most people; misery was ever-present. Thanks to the other-worldly beauty Beethoven transmitted through his music, he was able to alleviate many heavy hearts and infuse them with a just measure of hope.
Initiation Level: 3.2 His initiation level of 3.2 was very rare for that epoch. Beethoven suffered greatly, as a result of the incomprehension of those close to him, the minikin smattering of real culture people had, plus the betrayal of those who claimed to be his friends. Brusque by nature, (we will understand why when we study his rays), he was a frank and direct individual and could seem cruel at times, which was not really the case. Forged in the school of hard knocks, he responded accordingly to those who approached him. Frustration often overwhelmed him and easily transformed itself into anger and fury when he was unduly disturbed, for this inopportuned him and made him lose the very precious thread connecting him to his “inner” music. Monad and Soul His Monad and Soul instilled in him a great sensitivity, which at times tortured him. Detesting seeming appearances and finding them deceitful, he revealed little by way of outer refinement. However, he proved to be a highly cultivated and subtly refined individual in his inner being, where the most exquisite and harmonious melodies gave voice from out of the Silence, inspired by his Soul, as well as other celestial sways. He truly heard what no one else could hear. Personality His ray 1, sub-ray 3 Personality enabled him to be strong-willed and to pursue his destiny relentlessly. Ray 1 gave him a forceful Personality, which many found abrasive. He was endowed with the will to succeed, which helped persuade the heavenly music haunting him incessantly, to descend to the physical plane. Ray 1 also gave him the required strength and capacity to completely channel the Celestial Entity who was responsible for the transmission of his musical genius. Without the major influence of this ray, Beethoven would not have accomplished as much, nor attained, the true greatness that he did. His sub-ray 3 Personality accorded him the measure of manipulation he needed, thereby allowing him to obtain what he wanted. However, he rarely made use of this energy, preferring rather the ray 1’s honesty and forthrightness. Nevertheless, when his deafness started to bother him and get the better of him, this sub-ray helped him to conceal his weakness, so that it would not unduly hamper his work.
Mental Body His mental body equipped with a ray 4, sub-ray 7, frequently tormented him. However, it also allowed him to become the ingenious instrument who channelled and transcribed (relatively perfectly) what he heard. Musically, he seemed to be adorned with special antennae springing

sensitively from his consciousness, giving him the possibility (and opportunity) to hear what remained inaudible to the common mortal. Ray 4 would grant him no rest. He worked night and day to capture, transcribe, and play the heavenly music he heard. His working methodology sometimes seemed like a slow form of torture. Silence could never reign in his head, as this ray detected (without repose) those sounds which he metamorphosed into music. The sub-ray 7 proved to be a perfect complement to his ray 4 mental body. This being the ray of ritual and magic, permitted him to transcribe rather accurately what he heard innerly, despite his deafness. Being also the ray of ceremony and order, it proved indispensable to him in the classification and writing of what he heard. Sometimes, he really did not know where this music started, or what denouement it should have. This sub-ray allowed him to discern a logical progression to the musical sounds he was able to apprehend.
Astral Body His ray 6, sub-ray 4 astral body, bestowed upon him a tempestuous temperament. He was naturally intense as well as hot headed, although contrapuntally, he could be very sensitive, deep and expressively warm in his composition of music, to which he was indisputably devoted. The influence of ray 6 altered his moods according to what he lived momentarily. He could be warm one moment, then several minutes later he would become cold and distant, or even hard and intractable, if he felt that he had been betrayed, misunderstood, or misjudged by his peers. He often isolated himself, fleeing from that which he detested the most: that is, the baseness of human nature, embodied by those who would sell out to the highest bidder, either for fame or fortune. Being wholehearted in almost everything he undertook, forgiveness did not come easily to him... except when he detected sincerity in the eyes of a poor soul entreating him for clemency.
48
Beethoven, Ludwig
van
The sub-ray 4 plagued him with emotional ups and downs, which increased the destructive side of his Personality. He rarely took good care of himself. His lifestyle was characterized by a constant selfdestruction as he kept himself too busy with work. Washing, eating and dressing nicely were in his eyes, a waste of time, merely affectations of the societal life he detested. If he could have fled to a place far away from everything, including the most basic needs of the human body, he would have done so.
Physical Body His physical body, which was upon ray 3, sub-ray 4, granted him a fair measure of vigour, as well as a highly useful sensitivity. Ray 3 conferred upon him a powerful mind and a well-honed gift for repartee. He hated indulging in small talk, although he could express himself very well, and easily outmaneuver challengers. He liked having the last word and silencing those who made life difficult for him. It was safer and wiser to stay on his good side, as his skill with words was as sharply honed as his musical talent, nothing short of exceptional. His sub-ray 4 Physical ensured that he could delicately feel musical vibrations through his skin, through his refined sense of touch. The sound vibrations emitted by his piano transferred the aural waves of what he wanted to produce to his receptive and intuitive physical body. This sub-ray also gifted him with a rugged-like beauty, (almost savage in nature), which pleased women enormously. This creative giant of a man has yet to be reincarnated. He is presently operating on those higher dimensional planes, carefully planning a strategy for a revolutionary new generation of music, which will come to pass in the near ensuing years, when his next incarnation is destined to occur, circa 2020. Blavatsky, Helena Petrovna Given Name: Helena Petrovna von Hahn Nationality: Russian Place and Date of Birth: Yekaterinoslav (Russia), July 30, 1831 Date of Death: London (England) May 8, 1891 Profession: Adventurer, writer and occultist Master Djwhal K hul’s Commentary Madame Helena Blavatsky was a remarkable woman in every respect, although difficult to deal with at times. Always devoted to the cause of the Masters, she made her life even as she redeemed it. The unrelenting intensity of her life permitted her to settle an equally intense karmic debt she had contracted with the Ashram of ray 1, a debt which definitely, also affected the Ashram of ray 2. She had certain reparation to pay and she exonerated herself well. In what possible way could a third-level initiate, whom she was in her previous incarnation as the influential Count of Cagliostro, break faith with or betray the Masters? To put it simply, by according much too much importance to the goal, and ignoring, or neglecting to listen to important basic advice regarding the proper administration of an Ashram. If such a transgression takes place and it is serious, the initiate pays dearly and is obliged to make conscious reparations in a later incarnation.
Initiation Level: 4.5 At the time of her death, her initiation level was 4.5; she is presently working toward her fifth initiation, which she should attain by the year 2025. She currently lives in Russia and inhabits a man’s body.

Ray Structure Monad: 2 Mental: 1-5
Soul: 1 Astral: 6-2
Personality: 3-6 Physical: 3-6
Monad and Soul Her great strength was derived from her Monad, supported by the strength of her soul. This time, she worked in total devotion to the Masters and her love for the Hierarchy was incontestable. Sometimes, her ray 1 Soul made her too frank and too direct, but it also accorded her a will of iron, which helped in the accomplishment of her life mission, despite hindrances. Personality Her Personality, consisting of ray 3, sub-ray 6, inspired a breadth of genuine flexibility into her robust desire to achieve her life’s goal. Ray 3 granted her the ability to adapt to any situation. She sometimes liked to provoke people in order to stir a certain questioning in those whom she addressed. Also, she carefully chose her words to produce an energizing effect in them. Her sub-ray 6 gave her a dedication and stubbornness which clearly defined her, growing out of the intense desire to serve the Masters at any cost. It also allotted her a fugacious warmth which compensated somewhat for the coolness of her ray 1 in both the Soul and mental body. In addition, the sub-ray 6 also gave her the will to never give up, which served her well during her earthly travels and spiritual quests.
Mental Body Her vivacious intelligence was conjugated by the congruence of her ray 1, sub-ray 5 mental body. Ray 1 gave her the courage and strength to persevere, despite all the difficulties and obstacles she encountered. It also conferred upon her a clarity of vision and allowed her to move and motivate people. She was mentally polarized and sympathized little with mysticism, due, in part, to the particular configuration of her mental body. 52
Blavatsky, Helena Petrovna
Her sub-ray 5 bestowed upon her the singular manner with which she expressed herself, that is, affirmatively and with conviction. It also allowed her to be more occult than mystical. Thanks to this sub-ray she could see all the work to be done in concrete terms without fear of consequences. She could also explicate and extrapolate upon the so-called indescribable. The ray 5, being primarily rational, permitted her to intromit a firm foundation for intuitive understanding into her listeners, even as she forayed forth into an occult exegesis of the divinely mysterious Spiritual Worlds.
Astral Body Her ray 6, sub-ray 2 astral body, made her human in her arbitrations. Ray 6 allowed her to be attentive and helpful to others. It also garnered her with that single-minded passion and dedication that so characterized her in the realization of her lifework. She was a woman of authentic authority, (due to her ray 6 which dictates and ray 1 which directs). She knew how to claim her rightful place; she could in no uncertain terms be considered lukewarm. In terms of friendship, she was loyal and devoted; we could count on her any time. Her sub-ray 2 blessed her with a type of sensitivity which enabled her to be genuinely attentive to the needs of others. This sub-ray also bestowed upon her an intuitive acuity that never failed her. She clearly could “feel and she responded accordingly.
Physical Body Her physical body, which was upon ray 3 with a sub-ray 6, granted her great resistance and perseverance, as was the case for Ms. David-Neel. Despite pain and discomfort, she perdured and attained her goal. The ray 3 gave her a positive toughness and graced her with an intelligent and quick-thinking brain. Indeed, she was a difficult person to box into a corner, and her gift for repartee was truly formidable.

Her sub-ray 6 provided her with an apparent corpulence necessary to her; otherwise, she would have left her physical body more rapidly. This particular sub-ray prompted her to appreciate fine food, as well as the niceties of life. Paradoxically, the excess weight she carried permitted her to be more efficient, as it obliged her to slow down and focus even more on her work. Her contacts with the Himalayan Masters were genuine, and They dictated part of their knowledge to her. They provided for an adequate development of her occult side without any distortion. Both her vision and intuition, almost perfect in all respects, were educed from the apt conjunction of her mental body with her Monad. June 11, 2007

Obama , Barack Hussein Given Name: Barack Hussein Obama Jr. Nationality: American Place and Date of Birth: Honolulu (United States), August 4, 1961 Profession: Lawyer and Statesman Master Djwhal K hul’s Commentary A man of great intelligence and great simplicity, Mr. Obama is a noble-hearted being who knows how to demonstrate “intelligence” in his approaches. Neither a fanatic nor a dictator, he is dedicated to his people’s well being (that is the people living in the United States, regardless of race) as well as to world peace. One may qualify him as an idealist but isn’t the contribution of idealists necessary for the planet and the whole of humanity to be well? Suffering, whatever its nature, disconcerts him and is painful for him. His weak point remains women; he discovers his vulnerable side when he faces their charm and beauty, a frailty caused by his ray 7 Soul. He likes perfection, order and equity in everything. He knows how to behave when faced by the seduction exercised by women who like power and who would do anything to get closer to it. Disciple of El Morya Khan, although he is presently under the direction of the Count of St. Germain, he is a born politician. Ray 7 remains necessary for his first lives in politics. He will dedicate several incarnations to politics, will learn how to manage it so that it does not destroy his own life. He will have to cultivate caution and at times moderation, which ray 7 will grant him. When he will have accomplished a complete circle of seven lives in politics — he is in his third — he will be able to use the energy of his real Master linked to the Ashram of Ray 1.
331
The Circle
of I nitiates
Initiation Level: 2.3 He will undoubtedly reach the initiation level of 2.5 in the present incarnation if he lives long enough; his ideas could disturb and endanger his life. He has to learn caution, which is essential in this incarnation. Ray Structure Monad: 2 Mental: 7-3
Soul: 7 that will go towards 1 Astral: 6-4
Personality: 2-1 Physical: 7-3-5
He displays a certain arrogance that will be necessary all through his political life. It comes in part from his initiation level, but also from his Soul ray and his mental ray. His ray 2 Personality grants him a simplicity and a humility that are equally necessary.
Monad and Soul His Monad has little influence on his life and behavior, contrary to his Soul that already manages a part, because he wants to be a good channel for the work of the Masters. He is followed, without his knowledge, in the world of dreams, on the inner planes, by certain Masters that guide and advise him. Some manifest themselves on the physical plane to support him in his work. Presently Mr. Obama proves to be the most able to help humanity through the United States. We hope that one day all heads of states would be at least initiates of level 2.5 and more. Then, Earth’s surface will improve and it will finally become a sacred planet. His Soul, presently influenced by ray 7, favors a descent of energy preparing a future that will be more and more influenced by this ray. Order and harmony, bordering chaos, will be more present because the energy of ray 7, in its first millennium, will act as a catalyst to incredible abuses at all levels. These ray 7 Souls will prove essential to bringing a semblance of order, else the committed abuses would lead us to our doom. However, let us not forget that ray 7 is extremely intelligent and
332
Obama, Barack Hussein
that it knows how to predict the future. It would therefore, we hope, block excesses and favour a better balance at the level of world ecology. When he reaches his third initiation, if his cycle of seven incarnations in politics is finished, he will be able to choose a Soul under the influence of ray 1. His work would take on a larger scope and he would become an important ally of El Morya Khan’s Ashram.
Personality We suggested to him to adopt a ray 2, sub-ray 1 Personality, his approach having to remain imbued with gentleness and qualified with an unshakable will; he has to rule with a firm gentleness. He has to display warmth, care, responsiveness to others while never losing sight of his mandate and the will to pursue, although at times, discouragement creeps in. Let us not forget that he is dealing with people of all types, of all religions, but mainly of various initiation levels, quite often lower than his. Sometimes, it will be difficult for him to understand the way that some people think and act. As mutual aid is close to his heart, he will adjust and continue to work for the good of all. One should not forget that he would have the faults of his qualities, such as stubbornness, the mirage of the savior, thinking that he has “the vision” favorable to all. He will know how to adapt, because we will be watchful.
Mental Body His ray 7, sub-ray 3 mental body makes him intelligent, a visionary, clever and a diplomat. He can talk and mould himself to the public he is addressing. He has the wisdom to rule well while respecting others. He can also work on several projects simultaneously without losing sight of the “whole”. Sometimes he will tend to neglect his family but his wife will, most of the time, know how to understand and accept what will occasionally seem “unacceptable”. Behind a man of this scope 333
The Circle
of I nitiates
must appear a woman that can support him in his challenges. On the initiation front, she is slightly less evolved than he is, although she is getting close to the second initiation. Consequently, she will be capable of grasping most of her husband’s motivations.
Astral Body His ray 6, sub-ray 4 astral body makes him devoted, faithful and patient. He tries not to judge others too much and attempts to understand their viewpoint. Ray 6 provides him with a certain strength at the emotional level, which helps him maintain a balance in all other aspects of his life. His family remains important because it provides him with priceless support and love that assist him in the pursuit of his mandate. Sub-ray 4 provides him with a sense of art that will be appreciated and well judged; he is also endowed with a refinement necessary to his work. Sometimes he is afflicted with ups and downs, but they are brief because his ray configuration rapidly brings him back to what is essential, which he knows is no longer his small self.
Physical Body His ray 7, sub-rays 3-5 physical give him exceptional strength and resistance. Ray 7 qualifies his brain, transmitting to him clear and precise thoughts that allow him to justly perceive the necessary procedures for the accomplishment of his work. Sub-ray 3 characterizes his intelligence by removing some blinders that ray 7 has a tendency to put on to reach its goals. It sharpens his intelligence, preparing him to easily and adequately reply to inner and exterior questioning. We have taken the liberty to emphasize sub-ray 5 that reinforces his physical resistance to counter certain health problems that occasionally drain the energy of his physical body. This sub-ray also confers to him a certain intuition very useful for various decision making. He is a man of the future who should not be ignored. June 5, 2008 334
Obama, Barack Hussein
Master Djwhal K hul’s A dded Commentary Barack Obama is presently living a transition period that is necessary. He is not getting the support of all; he often sees himself misunderstood by his peers that remain skeptic towards change through simple fear of losing what they already have. It is to be noted that if Americans do not evolve or, if you prefer, do not change, they will rapidly be deprived of their leadership in the world as well as the respect of other nations. Americans have a lot to understand and to realize, and this, in the shortest time possible. Barack Obama is a man of the future; he shakes the present to uproot the past; this past keeps captive the consciousness of Americans, who are sometimes still grappling with their cowboy aura that shoots everything that moves without checking facts. The future has to take place and the wind of change must strongly blow on the United States. The strong influence of ray 6 on the American people is creating disagreement that will have to be ironed out. The too rigid and conformist aspect of the American Southwest is polluting the worldly consciousness. The people must evolve and overcome their fear of change. Supportive when our thoughts are similar to theirs, the Southwest becomes resistant when we express an opposite or different idea. It protects itself by creating situations that are useless and incomprehensible to the most evolved among us. In a way, terror reigns in this region and the contribution of terrorism simply increases the discomfort of their very young consciousness. The American Midwest is, undoubtedly, one of the American territories the most resistant to change; moreover it poses a barrier to the progression of the United States in its unification from border to border, in the North as much as in the South. The mental rigidity that is there does not allow any opening towards other races, cultures and religions. This part of the United States is a bullet in the American consciousness, 335
The Circle
of I nitiates
a bullet that wanders armed with guns and all kinds of prohibitions. Here is what impoverishes the consciousness unable to evolve in such a context. Beware those who do not share their opinions‌ The western coast has wended well and opens itself to uncharted possibilities, more equitable for human consciousness; however, materialism is temporarily handicapping the vision of the people living in this area, which should correct itself in the decades to come. The glamour that reigns there is only the result of young Souls in search of beauty and fame. This aspect, which seduces the whole world, will disappear in a hundred years in order to be replaced by a more authentic community, more developed and fairer in its thoughts and actions. This coast presents a mix between the past and the future; one can find people torn between their country’s past and the future of the nation. A great number of immigrants live there, allowing the creation of new western bases, where the cradle of the next race to come will reign in the future. The north of the United States is more evolved than the south. People there are more open and ready to work for the benefit of all and for humanity. They set their heart on understanding each other and to adjust, if that is the case. The State of Hawaii is more centered on the future than the past. People from a spectrum of initiation levels live there, allowing this piece of land to be outlined as a miniature example of the world population. Certainly, people of all sorts and various initiation levels live in the United States. Adepts and Masters work there, hoping to make the American consciousness evolve. The diagram I have described concerns a global aspect of the population. Advanced Initiates live in California and in the State of New York. Let us emphasize that there are Initiates everywhere who are working hard to raise the consciousness of all. 336
Obama, Barack Hussein
The United States has to improve. Having become capitalist and selfcentered, its people must modify their ways of reacting to life, and include the respect of others more, in all that this represents. Too much racism, financial inequalities and illusions reign there to this day. How is it possible that the death penalty still prevails in such a country? Although it is still the Promised Land, its assets are gradually diminishing. Barack Obama is a strong man graced with a vision very few Americans have. He advocates freedom of speech and liberty. Although his peers are unconscious, he renders tribute to the American Flag. His role, from now on, consists of regilding the coat of arms of the United States by using his intelligence to the maximum, but also his conscience and his heart. We, the Masters of the White Lodge, support his mandate and hope that the whole of humanity will do the same. March 16, 2010
