This is the day when Jesus Christ was resurrected. This is a time that promises new hope, new joy and new aspirations. Easter Sunday also marks the end of the Lent season (which starts from Ash Wednesday). During the Lent season, fasting, spiritual discipline and repentance are observed. At the end of this season, there will be a celebration as it’s believed that Jesus Christ has risen. PAULA SOUZA ast Easter, we interviewed Panache’s own rising “Super Model” Paula Souza who, at the time, was set to take the fashion world by storm.
A year later, we caught up with Paula to find out what she has been up to and how close she was to reaching her dream of becoming an accomplished fashion model and stylist. Panache: What have you been up to during the past year? Paula: Hello Panache, firstly I would like to thank you once more for the interview. I have done so much from our last interview last year. I couldn’t ask for more, my modelling career is going very well and the proudest moment for me was when I was crowned Miss Brazil UK. Panache: You recently travelled to Braga- Portugal to visit your family. What do your parents think about your modelling career so far? Paula: I feel so glad to see the pride in my parents about me; my mom carries all the magazines and pictures of me with so much love. Panache: Who was your role model as a child? Paula: I didn’t have one role model that inspired me, but I remember watching Fashion TV and admiring all the models on the catwalk! I liked their style and the way they walked and I remember being in front of the TV trying to do the same. Panache: If you were not a model, what other profession would you have been doing instead? Paula: Definitely something related with fashion.

Cover page feature Panache: How do you cope under the pressures of being a model? Paula: You have to feel good and believe in yourself. If you think you are capable the world will believe you! Panache: How do you feel about the controversy of the size 0 debate in the industry? Paula: I feel shocked when I see models looking like skeletons on the catwalk or in magazines. I think models need to eat properly to be healthy and I believe that a big part of the problem comes from the designers. They are the ones that provide these “minuscule” garments for shoots that only fit models with jutting bones and no breasts or hips. Panache: You told us before that the favourite part of your body is your flat belly, is it possible to maintain without constantly being on a diet? Paula: It is so funny that everybody thinks that models eat only lettuce lol. Most of the models that I know eat normally and are not constantly on diets. I believe that the structure of your body plays a big part in deciding if you have the tendency to put weight on or not. All my life I have exercised and from the age of 14 I started working out seriously. I eat everything that I want, but I have in my mind that my body is my brand and I have to look after it. Panache: What are your guilty pleasures food wise? Paula: Burger, unfortunately I really like. Panache: Do you still advocate that there should be more natural curvy models featured on the catwalk and in the magazines? Paula: Definitely I think that every woman is beautiful and you don’t have to be size 0 to be attractive and stunning! Panache: What beauty tips do you swear by? Paula: I don’t really have any beauty tips but I never sleep with make up on! Panache: What are the 4 things you can’t live without? Paula: Love, Family, Friends, My IPhone (laughing) 14

Panache: Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Paula: Married with 2 beautiful children and well established in my modelling career. Panache: Do you have any advice as to how to ensure good pictures every time? Paula: If you work with good & creative teams the good pictures will come out easily.
Panache: You always seem so confident, Is that an inherent quality or is it something you had to develop to do your job? Paula: I can say it is a quality that I developed along the time of my modelling. You have to be confident on your own to transmit and give to the client the best of you.

Paula: It feels very good, especially as we are both models. We share experiences and help each other in the extreme. He is very supportive and a lovely person to work with. I can say that I have taught and learned much from him.
Panache: You are such a lovely couple; do you think that I should be thinking about purchasing that hat in anticipation of your wedding day? Paula: (Laughing) well what can I say?! The future belongs to God & only he knows what will happen in the future. But for now I can say that we are very happy and are enjoying our moments together. Panache: How close are you in achieving your lifetime dream of becoming an accomplished fashion model and stylist? Paula: I am very satisfied of everything that I have achieved so far. I think I am very close to achieve all my dreams. Panache: If you could whisper in the ear of every young model, what would you say? As a result, he was invited by Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation TV programme, ‘The People’s Business’ to discuss his work and it was during this interview that he was introduced to Amanda Leon.
Amanda Leon Appeal Panache E-Magazine reports on the journey so far made by Dr Shaun Matthews in his quest to raise the necessary funds so that Amanda Leon can undergo much needed jaw joint surgery in the UK.
T
his appeal, spearheaded by Dr Shaun Matthews, is a fundraising campaign on behalf of Amanda Leon, a resident of Barbados. Amanda was severely injured in a car crash in 1991, which left her with a fused jaw bone making it extremely painful and difficult for her to speak and eat. Amanda would often therefore, choose to eat alone rather than face the difficulties and embarrassment of doing so in front of friends and work colleagues. Amanda’s condition was brought to the attention of Dr Shaun Matthews when he visited Barbados in July 2013 for the Cropover festivities. Dr Matthews’ career achievements had previously been covered

Following the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation programme and having been introduced to Amanda, Dr. Matthews was moved to do an interview on Brass Tacks and was encouraged by the presenter, Neff Caddle, to discuss Amanda’s case. Dr Matthews was heartened by the reaction he got from the Barbados public with several offers of help to pay her air fare to the UK, so that she could undergo a much needed operation. A firm offer that her flight would be paid was received and a dear friend in the UK offered to sponsor her stay for the time that she needed to be here in London. Dr Matthews also agreed to waive his fee to undertake the procedure. With these costs covered, there still remained the cost of the device and ancillary hospital costs. On his return to the UK, Dr. Matthews held a meeting with the surgical devices company, “Biomet” who are based in Jacksonville, Florida and they kindly agreed to donate the custom-made jaw joint replacement implant free of charge. This implant would normally cost £11,500. Dr. Matthews subsequently held a meeting with the private patient authorities at King’s College Hospital in Camberwell and was able

to negotiate a significant reduction in their overall hospital charges. Dr. Matthews now needs to raise approximately £6000 in order for the operation to go ahead.
The National Council of Barbadian Associations (UK) was approached by the Barbados High Commission and agreed to coordinate the efforts of the Barbadian community to raise the required funds. Also, a number of registered and non-registered associations received a letter from Euclid Goodman, Minister Councillor to the Barbados High Commission in the UK, who felt that it was important to be involved with an appeal of this kind.

eing brought up, as a Christian, in a Christian household, Easter was always more than Easter eggs, bunnies and daffodils for us. Easter represents the time when Jesus was crucified, buried and rose again in three days. When I thought about the Easter issue of Panache E-Magazine, I decided to share my thoughts regarding this special time. I have no doubts about what I believe, I do believe Jesus died and rose again. For the last few weeks, I have been thinking about those three words “Death, Burial and Resurrection”. My meditation led me to think about my own life and the changes I have made and continue to make.
DEATH It was almost 6 months ago that I took a long, hard, soul-searching look at my life and decided that some things had to “die”. I identified some destructive habits that were a hindrance to my development. I was determined to make those changes and I knew the time had come. Having made that decision, I realised that it would not be overnight, nor was it going to be easy. 28

I thought of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane when he prayed to his father and asked, “If it be possible let this cup pass” meaning if he did not have to go through with what was about to come, he would rather not. I knew that some of the changes would be painful; there would be relationships that would be terminated, the initial discomfort of thinking and doing things in a different way, changing a lifestyle that I had adopted for years. I almost did not want to go through the process, but I knew it had to be done – for me, there was no other option. The trial was ended, the jury had returned and the verdict had been reached: it was time to put certain things in my life to death. The first few weeks, was spent mainly in reflection and objectively observing my habits and reminding myself of what I needed to do differently to replace the void created by change. I found the process painful, I was fighting against myself, but I was committed to changing my life.

change or die slowly. I would never be the same again. I knew that I had to have a different mindset so that these things would never re-surface again. Still, the process is not easy and is still on going. I remembered a quote: “When something
or someone dies, the pain is bigger than you, but as time goes on you become bigger than the pain”. Anyone who has lost a loved one knows that grieving really begins when the burial has taken place. That is when the acknowledgement of what has happened comes. Between the burial and resurrection, there is a time of acknowledgement, acceptance and grieving. Acknowledgement that this part of our lives is over, acceptance that it is time to move on and grieving for what has been gone before or lost.
RESURRECTION When I started to make my changes I thought it would not take long, that I had learned the lessons I needed to learn and I had changed what I needed to change. As the weeks and months have gone by, I appreciate that every
single day, is a day of learning and growing. There are days that I feel like I could conquer the world and other days that I know I still have a way to go. Equally, there are habits that I thought I had conquered, only to discover they are still very much alive – more work and extra effort is still needed. To be resurrected means living daily in the truth, as I know it. It is easy to perhaps lie and fool others, but it is not so easy to fool myself. Initially, taking responsibility for my life and acknowledging where I had gone wrong really hurt, but I found that as I practice being totally honest with myself, my fears and anxieties have diminished and although I am faced with the same situations, I am not the same person and so the outcome will be different. Therefore, I am rising with a different mind set and outlook, to walk and talk differently, nothing is absolute and I remain flexible to whatever each day or situation will bring. My goal is to be a better person – to be the person God created me to be.

hey say to really broaden your horizon you need to travel the world. As students, graduates and young people just beginning on the career ladder, limited budgets seem to be a hindrance. With the power of the internet however, we can experience these things virtually- starting with Easter celebrations around the world Easter is a time of mourning and celebration for many across the world. It is observed worldwide as the period of crucifixion and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is commended as the time Christ died to save us from our sins and to give us a clean slate. This Christian holiday is one that is sacred to most believers and acknowledged by nonbelievers alike. This day is commemorated and jubilantly celebrated in diverse ways by different cultures. Some cultures take a more sombre approach documenting the lead up to his death whilst others focus on the celebration of the resurrection. Nonetheless, Easter is a monumental period in time worth observing.
Philippines: - The Easter week is known as ‘Holy Week’ in the Philippines often observed through re-enactments and holy festivals. Beginning in the 1950s Filipinos have been known to observe Good Friday by recreating the Crucifixion. Each year, several locals volunteer to be crucified to endure and relate to the pain that Jesus felt whilst on the cross. This act is believed to be a form of self-sacrifice from the volunteers as a measure of gratitude to God through Jesus Christ. This religious festivity attracts thousands of worshippers and tourists each year.

Easter Celebrations Around the World Ghana: - In Ghana, the two days observed for Easter are Good Friday and Palm Sunday. Palm Sunday is celebrated by various church congregations with processions through some principal streets. Paraders wave intricately designed palm branches and handkerchiefs and sing “Hosanna! Hosanna! Hosanna!” This is done as a celebration of the triumphant entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem which gives Christians the hope to seek God’s kingdom. The next important day of the Easter season for Ghanaian Christians is Good Friday. Nearly everyone tries to attend church on Good Friday because they believe that their sins from the year are crucified on the cross with the Son of God. Florence, Italy On Easter Sunday every year, Florence celebrates the religious holiday known as Scoppio del Carro, or the "Explosion of the Cart". it An elaborate wagon standing two to three stories high is
pulled by a pair of oxen decorated in garlands through the streets of Florence to the square between the Baptistry and Cathedral. When the Gloria is sung inside the cathedral, the Archbishop lights a dove-shaped rocket (called the “Colombina” and symbolizing the Holy Spirit). This in turns flies out down a wire to the outside of the church and collides with the Cart in the square, setting off a spectacular firework display to the cheers of all. The cart is accompanied by drummers, flag throwers and figures dressed in historical costume as well as city officials and clerical representatives. These dramatic celebrations are a few of the many ways Easter is observed around the world. Easter is truly a period that is cherished by Christians around the world because it serves as an act of sacrifice for mankind which eventually brought about Salvation.

t is said that Easter is the most religious time in the Christian calendar. According to the scriptures, this is the time that Jesus rose from the dead and was ascended into heaven and so we celebrate his resurrection and ascension into heaven, to be seated at the right hand of the father. But this time is also tinged with sadness, because it follows Good Friday, which again, according to the scriptures, is the day he died for our sins.

Easter, a time for contemplation and reflection Love and honour is about tolerance and respect. Christians or not, the human race fully understands, that this is the way to exist in harmony. After all, love is one of the easiest and most nurturing emotions to feel and manifest, not just for ourselves but for others. Therefore, it is ironic that we lose sight of this through the hustle and bustle of trying to survive. As a result, we neglect each other for our own gain, which then creates the sufferings of a large part of humankind. A snap shot for instance, is that In some parts of the world, it is seen as an outrage that in the western world, (where there is such a large concentration of wealth) people still live on the streets, and in some places medical help is not available unless there is money. People are suffering in countries where there is enough wealth to feed the whole population of the world a few times over. We live in a hierarchical world, where we seem to think that the only way to survive is to dominate each other, either for financial gain or power. This is because we ourselves live in a constant fear of loss and poverty. Fear drives us to want more in order to protect ourselves, ironically, from the systems that we are responsible for instigating in the first place and this fear drives our need to fight for dominance over each other.
Although we all know that each of us has the capacity to reach out in some way to another, with life’s challenges, it is so easy to forget. The fact is, we all cohabit the same home and that is this earth, yet, paradoxically, because of this drive to dominate each other as a result of our fear of loss, we behave as if we are different species, living on different planets and so we create the complete opposite to what we were taught in the first place and what we all know to be true, to love one another. So Easter in my opinion, is not just about celebrating the new life of Jesus Christ, it should also be a time for contemplation and reflection. How can we reframe our lives and our understanding of what this Great Man really meant when he said “love one another as I love you”. Let us not sell each other out, which was his experience. Instead let’s begin to make the effort to really look out for each other. He gave his life for this. So to all Christians and non Christians out there, in this time of regrouping, remember this, we can make a difference. Even if we reach out to just one living being.

aster is a noteworthy religious observance in the Christian calendar. Easter derives from 2 ancient traditions, one Pagan, and one Judeo-Christian. Both Pagans and Christians have celebrated death and resurrection messages near the Vernal Equinox for eons. Religious scholars typically believe that many of the tenets of the Christian Easter observance were derived from the earlier Pagan observances. Each Spring, the spring equinox falls between March 20 and March 22. Both Neopagans and Christians celebrate religious ceremonies tied to the spring equinox. Neopagans, as well as Wiccans, typically have their celebrations right on the day of, or evening before, the equinox. Western Christians mark Easter on the Sunday on (or immediately after) the full moon after the date of the Equinox. Notwithstanding, Eastern Orthodox churches follow a distinct schedule. Their Easter commemoration can be many weeks after the time chosen by Western churches. Easter's religious meaning is to commemorate Jesus' revivification, which Christians expect to have happened on the third day after the crucifixion. The Easter Season historically

lasted for the 40 days from Easter until Ascension Day. The Eastertide now formally lasts for a full 50 days from Easter through Pentecost. The first week of the Eastertide is known as 'Easter Week'. Easter is named a movable Christian holiday because it will fall between late March and late April each year, depending on the cycle of the moon. In modern times, many families celebrate Easter as a non-religious holiday. Children dye and look for Easter eggs, decorate their Easter baskets, and even medical professionals wear pastelcolored Easter scrubs to show their festivity. The Christian Easter holiday is linked to Jewish Passover both for its symbolism as well as when it occurs on the calendar. The Catholic Encyclopedia notes that "in fact, the Jewish feast was taken over into the Christian Easter celebration." The Easter Bunny is pictured as a rabbit that delivers Easter eggs, who is sometimes even depicted wearing clothes. he weekend was here and I was getting ready to rave! The telephone rang. I answered it. I heard Ash say, “Brixton a riot!” I asked, “Where in Brixton?” and he said, “They’re rioting everywhere.”
and on top of that the police were using the “SUS” laws at the time to oppress the youth. Half an hour later, I was now satisfied that Mum was relatively safe watching Saturday evening TV with her sister.
The first thought that entered my mind was, “Is Mum OK?” I rushed out of the house and made my way to Brixton. Norwood to Brixton was only a couple of miles. I jumped in the ford escort my Dad had sold me and I was at my mum’s house in minutes.
I was now eager to see what was going in my town. I did not feel danger, only excitement. (When I see riots happening nowadays and view the aftermath, looking at the previously law abiding, sensible young people being arrested for their part in stealing and destroying property, you wonder why they got involved in the first place. Well, sometimes riots are not planned or directed by any one person or group of persons, but are instead spontaneous events that when ignited, like fire, have a life of their own.) As I opened the door to leave, on the door step was my good friend Gill. I had known Gill for about seven years. We had met at Streatham bowling alley and along with my cousin Ash, had remained firm friends ever since. He had been told by my girlfriend that I would be here and had come so that we could “see what was going on” together.
The atmosphere was electric. I had never been in a riot so I did not know what to expect. It was a Saturday evening and as always Brixton was buzzing. I don’t know if it was just me but I felt an excitement in the air, my senses were heightened. My mum and her sister were in the living room watching TV when I got there. They were aware of the riots taking place, concentrated only a street away from where we were, however, they knew instinctively that they were not endanger from the rioters. The rioters were rebelling against the police and the situation that they found themselves in, with no jobs, very little opportunity to escape the ghetto

walking into a mini war zone! To the left of us, looking down towards Brixton market, were lines of police dressed in riot gear, with what seemed like rubber dustbin lids held up as shields. To the right were about 100 young men shouting insults at the police, some throwing stones. We quickly joined the crowd. As we got with them the police started moving towards us. We backed off up Railton Road towards the corner of Barnwell road. Then something happened that I will never forget. Suddenly Molotov cocktails were being thrown from the crowd towards the oncoming police. This had the effect of stopping them in their tracks as they decided how to react to this new threat. In that moment I saw my friend Gill ordering a segment of the crowd to turn over a car in the road to form a barrier. They were eager to do his bidding and when he asked for fire, as he quickly undid the petrol cap to the now overturned car, it was brought to him with alacrity. In that chaotic moment I had time to reflect, that I never knew Gill had it in him. Gill shouted, “GET BACK!” to the crowd as he threw the Molotov at the now leaking petrol. We started running. Not from the police, but from fear of getting blown up by the soon to explode car…….

The Federal Republic of Nigeria celebrated their the 100th year Anniversary of the Amalgamation of the Northern & Southern Protectorates by the British Colonial Administration
anuary 1, 2014, marked when Nigeria turn 100 years old/young, the 100th year anniversary of the amalgamation of what used to be known as the Northern & Southern Protectorates under the then British colonial administrator Lord Frederick Lugard, into what is today known as Federal Republic of Nigeria. Nigeria was a name given by Lord Frederick Lugard’s mistress, Flora Shaw, who later became Dame Flora Lugard. She was born on 19 December 1852 – 25 January 1929, and was a well known British journalist and writer. She is also known for having coined the name "Nigeria". This all did not open with a big bang at all for us. Ni•ge•ri•a (nī-jîr′ē-ə) A country of Western Africa, on the Gulf of Guinea where a variety of states were established in the region prior to the arrival of Europeans, including the Bornu, Benin, and Songhai Empires. Exploited by Portuguese, British, French, and Dutch traders in the 17th and 18th centuries, Nigeria was eventually claimed by the British, who consolidated the area into one colony in 1914. The country attained its independence in 1960 from the British. Abuja is the official capital (since 1991), but many government offices remain in Lagos, the former capital and the largest city. Nigeria’s current population is 165,000,000, the largest population of majestic people in the world. I, like many others, expected that with the current Federal Government leading the civil society, organisations, the media and the generality of the people of Nigeria will

open the year with fanfare in celebrating our union. I was not mindful in anyway at all about the celebrations. I think the amalgamation is an event of great importance in the life of our country celebrating with vigour and passion and merriment in the air. It would have been nice to surprise the Nigerian population with more effective electricity, running water, security, better roads, accountability etc, things the population can finally enjoy. I believe that the atmosphere of subdued nonchalance pervading the air today is largely because of the audible muttering by some disaffected Nigerians that the union should not have taken place. I am not on the side with those intellectuals especially from the Southern parts of Nigeria who describe or dismiss, what happened back in January 1st 1914 as a ‘historical & very big mistake’ and wished it had not taken place at all. I do think we have to now make good of whatever happened. At times I feel that we should close the whole of Africa and really get to know and love ourselves before letting anyone in. Some of our compatriots from the South of Nigeria view the event of January 1, 1914 with unhappiness because they say the unification of a comparatively richer, better educated and more prosperous South with a poor, uneducated North is the reason why Nigeria has not made much progress. They feel that if the South had been left alone, it would have made faster progress than it has made under the current unification. I do not take delight in arguments about what would have been. I therefore leave that to pundits who make such their speciality. 52

Nigeria is a great country waiting for greater leaders to come forward, in order to shine as we should be. We go to the best institutions of learning worldwide, but for some reason we go back home to do thing backwards. It is now 2014 and what we have as issues should not be at all. I try to always stay humble around my people for I do not feel that one should be too proud next to so much misconduct. It’s time to stop the suffering and smiling and let our actions set us on the right road. May God bless Nigeria for the next 100 years and beyond. Tourism is a good way forward, we must really invest in this area. Look at Dubai, the world can see from sand came a paradise. We can do better if we have the leaders that will lead. Without investment we can only continue to be consumers in the world.

n 14st March 2014, the H.E. Ambassador Mr. Gabriel Mharadze Machinga - Ambassodor for the Republic of Zimbabwe Embassy to the Court of St James, held a fundraising dinner and dance party at the Zimbabwean Embassy in aid of Chirovakamwe Primary School in Mutare, Zimbabwe and the St. Elizabeth Lureko Girls' Secondary School, Kakamega County, Kenya. The event was hosted by His Excellence Ambassador Machinga. And the focus was to raise the necessary funds to help the school’s desire to have a library that will help the Children of Chirovakamwe and its local community through reading so as to realise their potential Chirovakamwe Primary School offers children a well-rounded education which nurtures them into healthy, happy, sociable, intelligent individuals who will become useful and productive members of the society in which they live. The overall

vision is to offer the children a formidable head-start in life. Chirovakamwe recognises that the children of today are not just our future, but the future itself. In the academic domain, the school has had an impressive pass record of 80% in public examinations between 2008 and 2013. In terms of its historical achievement, Chirovakamwe prides itself of having produced graduates who went on to become teachers, nurses, doctors and other professionals who still hold the school in high esteem. In spite of the illustrious record of achievement Chirovakamwe is bedevilled by the problem of ‘hot-seating’ emanating from its massive enrolment of 2 486 pupils. The school has 48 classes and only 29 classrooms to cater for them. This means that half the school lessons begin normally in the morning. However, for the other half, the school day begins at midday, but

are mainly retired professionals who value a good education for children.
There are numerous problems associated with hot-seating, particularly regarding children in the afternoon session. For example, as parents leave for work in the morning, these children are often left alone at home killing time as they wait for their afternoon shift. Subsequently they sometimes end up wandering about anywhere between home and school before their late school time. This raises the risk of exposure to anti-social behaviour to which such young children tend to be vulnerable to. Alternatively, if they chose to enter the school premises too far ahead of their school day, they are likely to be a source of noise and disruption to on-going lessons of the earlier shift.
If religion is said to be the best insurance cover against the fires of the next world, then surely education must be the best insurance cover against the fires of this earthly world.
The quick solution to the problem would be to build adequate classrooms. Indeed, this is the school’s long term goal. However, because this is a multi-million dollar venture, it is not going to materialise any time soon.

n Monday 31st March, members of the international Diplomatic Corps in London, United Kingdom came together at the Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington to bid farewell to departing Trinidad and Tobago High Commissioner, His Excellency Garvin Nicholas. Several dignitaries took to the stage to pay tribute to the High Commissioner, including His Excellency Cenio Lewis, High Commissioner for St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Vice Dean of the CARICOM Corps. High Commissioner Lewis also commended High Commissioner Nicholas for his impact within the CARICOM group, noting that he had raised the image of Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean as a whole. High Commissioner Lewis noted that he had never before seen so much interest surrounding a Caribbean High Commissioner. “You have created such an interest because of the great impact you have made,” remarked High Commissioner Lewis. “You have made such an impression because of your tireless work, your energy

You were dedicated to your convictions and pressed hard,” stated Mr. Harrison. “This reform has removed a major irritant between our regions and we thank you for the role you have played. It is quite sad to see you leave, we have truly appreciated your leadership”.

ominations for the 2014 GUBA awards are out! GUBA is an organisation dedicated to highlight and acknowledge the talent and efforts of hardworking individuals of Ghanaian descent. Each year, GUBA, awards prestigious and influential individuals and organisations within the British Ghanaian Community. The awards have been endorsed by the likes of London Mayor-Boris Johnson, MP Dianne Abbott, Ghana’s High Commission to the UK and Ireland and several notable public figures within the UK and in Ghana. The 2013 version of the awards which took place on the 16th of November 2013 at the Park Plaza Hotel saw a host of talents walking away with the coveted GUBA award. The winners on the night included: Afrobeat star: Fuse ODG, Media Mogul and CEO of MOBO awardsKanya King. Also present were dignitaries such as Cherie Blair, CEO of UniBank Felix NyarkoPong, CEO of UT Bank Prince Amoabeng, Herman Chinery-Hesse-Founder and CEO of SoftTribe Ghana, GUBA patron Hugh Quarshie and several high profile guests. GUBA 2014 is set to be monumental as we celebrate our 5th year of running as an organisation. In celebratory fashion, the focus will be on recognition. Having done the research, I am happy to provide you with my conclusions on the above issues: 1. Put the item/items on to eBay to get the attention of other users. 2. Provide Great Customer Service. Getting an item on to eBay is relatively simple, however you must bear in mind that you have two great marketing tools for each item.
First; the picture:
Don’t take boring pictures! Don’t take just one picture of one item, (It will look lonely) and because most other people do the same thing it does not stand out. Take 5 different pictures of an item or a photograph of 5 items all lined up, or in some other combination but whatever it is make it different to everyone else.

You have 80 characters to inform your potential buyer about your product. Use as many available characters as you can. Tell them what the item is called, what it can do for them and any additional benefit you are offering, such as FREE postage. Using the word FREE has an amazing effect on peoples’ attention. Easy so far you’re thinking, and it is, however, from this point on you are dealing with people and without having good customer service procedures setup, things could get difficult. Items may be bought and not paid for; buyers may inadvertently select the wrong payment method or you may receive an email stating that they have not received their order.

I listed all the normal things he should do until he stopped and asked “How do you get your business?” The question threw me for a second because (for once) I didn’t have an immediate answer. I then realised that almost all of my business comes from referrals. Great I thought, but how did I get there and what have I learned from it? So here are my top 10 tips on growing your business through referrals. 1. Do more than you have to – as standard. No one remembers when someone just about did their job. They remember when you exceed their expectations. So do it – all the time.

usiness is all about processes, frameworks, long emails, meetings, conference calls and spreadsheets that look like a ski slope. Or is it about relationships; all about relationships. Is what

3. Proof is in the pudding. Only do what you can demonstrate proven results for. If you don’t know how to do that then work it out. Those results can be quantitative and qualitative, but find a measure. I’m sure you’ve heard the saying “Your network is your net worth”. There’s a value in your network, so spend that on those who need it. People remember those who’ve helped them and become your biggest fans. 5. Kill mediocrity. Everyone wants something special not just for themselves but for their businesses. So offer something or do something special. It might be the packaging, might be the contents or might be the special touches. Be memorable not mediocre 6. Be useful. The most commonly used household items aren’t necessarily the most exciting ones. So think about how you can offer something really useful as part of or core to your business that keeps ‘em coming or keeps ‘em talkin 7. Anticipate. Part of really good service delivery is looking ahead of your customers

Around midday, the two chickens return to the circulation desk quite vexed and say,’ Buk Buk BuKKOOK!’ The librarian decides that the chickens desire another three books and gives it to them. The chickens leave as before. The two chickens return to the library in the early afternoon, approach the librarian, looking very annoyed and say, ‘Buk Buk Buk Buk Bukkooook!’ The librarian is now a little suspicious of these chickens. She gives them what they request, and decides to follow them. She followed them out of the library, out of the town, and to a park. At this point, she hid behind a tree, not wanting to be seen. She saw the two chickens throwing the books at a frog in a pond, to which the frog was saying, “Rrredit Rrredit Rrredit...” =====================
